Paper-cutting is great fun, and I first discovered it when I was five years old. My parents took me to a Chinese art and culture centre for dance lessons, but there was a paper-cutting class next door. It looked really interesting, and I wanted to try. Li: I give paper-cutting classes to people in the local community. Many seniors take my classes, and they think paper-cutting is relaxing. I also have some Spanish-speaking students. How can we use traditional arts to help people learn about Chinese culture? Give examples. We can use calligraphy to show how Chinese characters work. The Chinese writing system is an important part of Chinese culture. We can explain what the different colours of Beijing opera masks mean. This can help people appreciate Beijing opera more. We can explain what people believed in the past. For example, hundreds of years ago, people made Chinese knots to bring good luck and to protect themselves against evil spirits.
