(创新题)Many countries are considering reducing speed limits on motorways and in urban areas. Fuel savings and reductions in CO2 emissions are just two of the reasons for doing so.
Fuel consumption decreases the slower you drive, because the moving car has to overcome fewer physical forces such as air resistance and rolling friction (摩擦) between tyres and road. Air resistance increases with the square of the speed. This means that a car experiences 28% more air resistance at a speed of 130km/h than at 110km/h.
Slower speed is not the only way to reduce the CO2 emissions from your car. There are three automotive tips to help the climate.
STREAMLINE THE CAR
1. Unevenness (不均匀) increases the air resistance of your car, and so its CO2 emissions. Four open windows increase fuel consumption by up to 27%.
GET UP THE GEARS (齿轮) QUICKLY
2. Petrol and diesel (柴油) cars should always be driven in the highest possible gear: the engine then has as few revolutions as possible. Fuel consumption between two gears can vary by up to 20%.
MAINTAIN TYRE PRESSURE
3. Car tyres at the recommended pressure ensure ideal driving. If the tyre pressure drops to 75% pressure, fuel consumption increases by 2%. If it drops by half, the increase is as much as 10%.
Here’s the breakdown of fuel consumption impact of driving habits and vehicle adjustments from the Federation of Danish Motorists (FDM).
21. Why does driving at a lower speed help cut fuel use?
A. It weakens the physical forces the car must fight against.
B. It changes the way air resistance affects the car.
C. It lightens the weight of the moving vehicle.
D. It makes the engine work at a higher speed.
22. What will happen if a car’s windows are wide open while driving?
A. It’ll lower the car’s air resistance. B. It’ll reduce the car’s CO₂ emissions.
C. It’ll lead to a sharp rise in fuel use. D. It’ll make the car run more smoothly.
23. What is the fuel-saving effect of reducing speed from 130km/h to 110km/h according to FDM data?
A. 10%. B. 16%. C. Up to 20%. D. Nearly 28%.

Zhang Hongjun once spent his days on noisy construction sites in Shanghai, far from his rural hometown in Fujian province. For over a decade, his life followed a common path: long hours of labor, low pay, and the loneliness of being a migrant worker in a vast city. He dreamed of a change but saw few opportunities back home.
A visit became a turning point. Stuck in his village, Zhang noticed something new. The roads were paved, internet signals were strong, and the local government was offering support to those willing to start businesses. The beautiful mountains and fresh air, once taken for granted, now seemed full of potential. An idea began to form: what if he could build a future here, not just make a living there?
Using his savings and a small government grant, Zhang took a daring step. He transformed his family’s old, empty house into a modern café, a place where city visitors could enjoy coffee while viewing the terraced fields. At first, neighbors were puzzled. “Who will come to the mountains for coffee?” they asked. Zhang persisted, learning about coffee beans and design online.
Today, “Mountain Cloud Café” is more than a coffee shop. It’s a window for his village. Tourists come on weekends, and through his café, they discover and buy local specialties like mountain tea and dried fruits. Zhang has hired two local women, providing them with stable income. More importantly, his success has sparked a conversation. A few other young people, who once thought leaving was the only option, are now asking, “Could I come back too?”
“My dream isn’t huge,” Zhang says, looking at the lively scene outside. “I just want our home to thrive, so that our children might have a choice to stay.” His journey from construction site to café owner paints a picture of modern rural China — one where returning wings bring new life.
24. Which of the following best describes Zhang’s early life as a migrant worker?
A. Relaxed and secure. B. Disconnected but satisfied.
C. Lonely and unfulfilled. D. Stressful but meaningful.
25. Why did Zhang return and start his Café business?
A. He failed in his job in Shanghai. B. He was in poor condition in the city.
C. He was invited by the local government. D. He found new changes and support in his village.
26. What can we learn about Mountain Cloud Café?
A. It has helped develop the village. B. It features providing modern coffee.
C. It mainly sells coffee to young villagers. D. It is well received from beginning to end.
27. What can be the most suitable title for the text?
A. A New Trend of City Tourism B. The Importance of Local Specialties
C. From Migrant Worker to Café Owner D Ways to Run a Successful Country Café

(原创题)Papercutting, a beloved traditional Chinese folk art with a history of more than 1,500 years, has recently earned widespread international attention through a groundbreaking exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London. The art form, which involves intricate cutting of paper into delicate patterns, dates back to the 6th century in China, where it was used for festivals, weddings, and household decorations. However, with rapid urbanization and changing lifestyles, papercutting gradually faded from daily life by the late 20th century, viewed as a "craft of the elderly" with little modern relevance and marginalized in its homeland for a time.
The V&A’s exhibition, Papercutting: Art of the Scissor, which ran from July to September 2024, showcased over 150 works by 30 artists from China, Japan, Germany, and the United States. What made the exhibition unique was its fusion of traditional techniques with contemporary themes—works addressed climate change, gender equality, and urban isolation, breaking the stereotype that papercutting is only for festive occasions. For example, Chinese artist Li Wei’s piece Melting Ice uses blue paper to depict shrinking glaciers, with tiny cut-out figures of polar bears struggling on floating ice.
The exhibition’s curator, Dr. Clara Bennett, a British art historian specializing in Asian folk art, first encountered papercutting during a research trip to China in 2018. She was struck by how elderly artisans in rural villages preserved the craft, often passing skills down through female family members. "Papercutting is not just about cutting paper—it’s a language of memory and emotion," Dr. Bennett said in an interview. "Each cut tells a story, whether it’s a grandmother’s wish for her grandchild or a young artist’s concern for the planet."
The exhibition’s impact extended beyond gallery walls. It sparked a global revival of papercutting: art schools in Paris and New York launched papercutting workshops, and Chinese cultural centers worldwide hosted mini-exhibitions. In China itself, the art form regained popularity among young people, with social media platforms flooded with creative papercut works. Many young artists now combine papercutting with digital art, projecting cut-out patterns onto buildings or creating animated papercut videos.
Critics argue that papercutting’s global success reflects a broader trend: the world’s growing appreciation for folk art that bridges tradition and modernity. Unlike high-profile fine arts, folk art often carries the voices of ordinary people, making it relatable across cultures. As Dr. Bennett noted, "Art doesn’t have to be grand to be powerful. Sometimes, a single piece of cut paper can connect hearts across continents."
28. What does the underlined word "marginalized" in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Ignored. B. Preserved. C. Developed. D. Celebrated.
29. What made the V&A’s papercutting exhibition different from traditional ones?
A. It featured works by Chinese artists only.
B. It focused on the historical origin of papercutting.
C. It combined traditional skills with modern themes.
D. It displayed papercut works for festive occasions.
30. Why did Dr. Bennett organize the papercutting exhibition?
A. To promote Chinese culture in the UK.
B. To highlight the emotional and cultural value of papercutting.
C. To compete with other art exhibitions at the V&A.
D. To train young papercut artists worldwide.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Folk art is less powerful than fine art.
B. Papercutting will replace other forms of art.
C. Globalization has negative effects on traditional art.
D. Traditional folk art can gain new life through cross-cultural communication.
D
When you rub (摩擦) a balloon on your skin, it produces electricity — a familiar example of charge separation (电荷分离), a process in which opposite charges are separated, creating electric potential. Similarly, raindrops striking a narrow tube create a tiny yet significant burst of energy. Now, researchers from the National University of Singapore (NUS) have tapped into this effect to generate electricity using rain-like droplets.
Conventional hydropower (水力发电) relies on large water flows, which only work in places like rivers. For smaller, slower flows, researchers have explored charge separation. They use a tube to let water flow through it continuously. Charges gather on the surface that the water touches. In this way, researchers can collect charges, but it is far from effective.
To solve this problem, the NUS team built a special device. At both ends of the device — the top of the newly-designed tube (about 2 millimeters in width), and the water-collecting cup at the bottom — electrical wires were placed to harvest charges. First, water is released from a metal needle, forming rain-like droplets. When these droplets enter the tube, their impacts create “plug flow,” in which the water forms mini columns separated by air gaps. This flow is crucial because it allows more surface contact and more time for charges to build up, generating up to 100, 000 times more charge separation than continuous flow. As charged droplets exit the tube and fall into the cup, charges build up in the water, creating an electric current. In tests, four tubes produced enough electricity to power 12 LED lights continuously for 20 seconds.
According to the study’s lead author, this model shows how rain can be used to generate clean electricity effectively and sustainably, especially in rainy places such as Singapore. Its potential is enormous, as it offers an alternative energy source even in cities. Imagine a rain collection device on your roof, producing small amounts of electricity whenever it rains — a small step for a raindrop, but a giant leap for sustainable energy technology.
32. What problem do the NUS researchers aim to solve?
A. The difficulty of separating charges. B. The lack of clean electricity sources.
C. The inefficiency of charge harvesting. D. The damage of traditional hydropower.
33. Which of the following best illustrates “plug flow”?
A. B. C. D.
34. What is the last paragraph mainly about concerning the model?
A. Its potential cost in urban areas. B. Its promising use in green energy.
C. Its complex design for rain power. D. Its practical need for more devices.
35. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. Revolutionary Energy from Raindrops B. Urgent Demand for Sustainable Energy
C. Capturing Raindrops through Innovation D. Turning Charge Separation into Electricity

From the moment humankind first closed its eyes and slipped into the shifting landscapes of sleep, dreams have haunted (萦绕) and fascinated us. At night, images rise uninvited: loved ones long gone, gods who speak in riddles, beasts both feared and admired, and journeys across impossible places. ___36___ They were messages, and visions — a secret language whispered by the universe to the soul.
In ancient China, the Zhou Li (Rites of Zhou) and other classical texts describe dream interpretation as a means to predict the future. Dreams were believed to reveal disturbances in the balance of yin and yang, or it could signal harmony restored. For example, a dream of flowing water might symbolize life’s continuity. ___37___
One of the most famous dream passages in Chinese philosophy comes from Zhuangzi. He once dreamed he was a butterfly. Upon waking, he questioned whether he was a man who dreamed he was a butterfly or a butterfly now dreaming he was a man. ___38___ It vividly captured the Chinese view of dreams as a space which is a mix of reality and illusion (错觉).
___39___ Researchers in neuroscience explain dreams as patterns of brain activity, memory processing, and emotional regulation. REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, where most vivid dreaming occurs, is now understood as crucial for learning and psychological balance. Sigmund Freud suggested dreams were wish-fulfillments; Carl Jung saw them as messages from the collective unconscious.
Though modernity explains dreams with science, it cannot remove their poetic charm. We are still dreamers, still seekers, still interpreters of the night’s riddles. ___40___ We walk with gods, with ancestors, with the timeless mysteries of existence.
A. This dream has been retold for centuries.
B. Likewise, broken objects could warn of trouble.
C. To the ancients, dreams were never meaningless.
D. How dreams are interpreted varies from culture to culture.
E. Today, science throws light on the distinct roles of dreams.
F. The ancients remind us that even in sleep, we are not alone.
G. Dreams are inspirations that prepare us for real-life challenges.

A Priceless Collection
It was a hot and stuffy summer afternoon. I was searching for old textbooks in the study when I accidentally knocked a wooden box off the top shelf. As the lid popped open, a pile of yellowed letters, a cracked coarse porcelain bowl (粗瓷碗), and an unremarkable old fountain pen fell out. I picked up the pen and glanced at it: its body had faded, most of the paint on the cap had peeled off, and the nib(笔尖) was slightly bent. I threw it back into the box impatiently, complaining, “Why does Grandpa always collect these useless things? They take up space and aren’t worth anything.”
“This is no ordinary thing,” Grandpa said, appearing behind me unexpectedly, with a touch of seriousness in his voice. “It was passed down to me by your great-grandfather.” I glared at the box, and crossed my arms. “It’s old and cheap. What’s the point of collecting it?”
Grandpa wasn’t angry. He just picked up the box gently and slowly told me the past. When great-grandfather was young, he was the only teacher in the village. This pen was his most precious possession, bought with his first month’s salary. On cold winter nights, he held this pen to correct homework and prepare lessons under the lamp, his neat and strong handwriting lighting the way for countless children’s studies. Later, great-grandfather passed the pen to Grandpa, telling him, “Though small, this pen holds the warmth of life and records the perseverance of the moment. Pass it on.”
I listened quietly, my impatience fading away.
Grandpa then pointed to the letters in the box—they were the ones he’d written to Grandma when he was young, with neat handwriting and full of care in every line. The broken bowl was the only bowl his family had when he was a child. Even though it was broken, Grandma still kept it carefully, saying they should remember those hard days when they stuck together.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Dear David,
I’m thrilled to hear about your idea of co-running a public account to promote Chinese culture. I’d love to team up with you, as it’s a perfect way to share our passion for China’s diverse traditions.
Here are my suggestions. First, we could focus on varied topics that range from traditional festivals to regional cuisine, which can attract more readers. Second, combining written posts with videos showing real cultural scenes would be effective, as visuals can better engage a wide audience. Lastly, let’s plan content monthly to ensure the account stays regular and active.
Looking forward to bringing this project to life.
Best wishes,
Li Hua

【参考范文】
As I listened to Grandpa’s words, my cheeks burned with shame. I hung my head, recalling how I had thrown the old pen back in the box and called it useless. I reached out to pick up the pen again, holding it gently as if it were a rare treasure. Running my fingers over the faded body and rough cap, I seemed to see great-grandfather’s hands holding the pen in the cold, and his figure bending over the desk under the lamp. I whispered an apology to Grandpa, realizing that true value lies not in how expensive something is, but in the memories and spirit it holds. From that day on, I began my own collection journey, no longer chasing expensive things but cherishing the warmth and affection around me.
Months later, I showed my priceless collection box to Grandpa. Inside were my mom’s hair from when she brushed it for me, a note from my friend encouraging me after a failed exam, and a leaf I picked on the day Grandpa told me his story. I told him every story behind these small things, my voice filled with warmth. Grandpa smiled softly, touching each item carefully. He patted me on the shoulder and said, “You’ve truly understood what collection means—it’s about cherishing the warmth around you and passing down love.” Tears welled up in my eyes, as I knew I had grown into a person who could see the beauty in ordinary moments.

第二部分 阅读(共两节, 满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分, 满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
(创新题)Many countries are considering reducing speed limits on motorways and in urban areas.
A. 10%. B. 16%. C. Up to 20%. D. Nearly 28%.
【答案】21. A 22. C 23. B
【解析】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了降低车速、优化车身设计、快速换挡及保持轮胎压力等可减少汽车燃油消耗和二氧化碳排放。
21. 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Fuel consumption decreases the slower you drive, because the moving car has to overcome fewer physical forces such as air resistance and rolling friction (摩擦) between tyres and road.(你开得越慢,燃油消耗就越少,因为行驶中的汽车需要克服的物理阻力就越少,比如空气阻力和轮胎与路面之间的滚动摩擦力)”可知,以较低的速度行驶有助于减少燃油消耗是因为它削弱了汽车必须对抗的物理力。故选A。
22. 细节理解题。根据STREAMLINE THE CAR部分中“Four open windows increase fuel consumption by up to 27%.(四个打开的窗户会使燃油消耗增加高达27%)”可知,如果开车时车窗大开,会导致燃油使用量急剧上升。故选C。

He dreamed of a change but saw few opportunities back home.(十多年来,他的生活循规蹈矩:整日劳作,薪水微薄,身为农民工,在偌大的城市里孑然一身。他渴望改变,却深知回到家乡,也难寻机遇。)”可知,张洪军早年的生活孤独且不满足。故选C项。
25. 细节理解题。根据第二段“Stuck in his village, Zhang noticed something new. The roads were paved, internet signals were strong, and the local government was offering support to those willing to start businesses. The beautiful mountains and fresh air, once taken for granted, now seemed full of potential. An idea began to form: what if he could build a future here, not just make a living there?(被困在村子里的张洪军发现了一些新东西。道路已经铺好,互联网信号很强,当地政府正在为那些愿意创业的人提供支持。曾经被视为理所当然的美丽山脉和新鲜空气,现在似乎充满了潜力。一个想法开始形成:如果他能在这里创造未来,而不仅仅是在那里谋生呢?)”可知,他回乡创业是因为村里有了新变化和支持。故选D项。
26. 推理判断题。根据第四段“Tourists come on weekends, and through his café, they discover and buy local specialties like mountain tea and dried fruits. Zhang has hired two local women, providing them with stable income.(周末游客前来,通过咖啡馆他们发现并购买高山茶、干果等当地特产。张洪军雇佣了两名当地妇女,为她们提供稳定收入。)”可知,咖啡馆带动了村庄发展。故选A项。
27. 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据第一段“Zhang Hongjun once spent his days on noisy construction sites in Shanghai, far from his rural hometown in Fujian province.(张洪军曾在上海嘈杂的工地上度日,远离他的家乡福建省。)”和最后一段“His journey from construction site to café owner paints a picture of modern rural China — one where returning wings bring new life.(他从建筑工地到咖啡馆老板的旅程描绘了一幅现代中国农村的图景——在那里,回归的翅膀带来了新的生命。)”可知,文章讲述了张洪军从农民工变成咖啡馆老板的故事,所以C项“From Migrant Worker to Café Owner(从农民工到咖啡馆老板)”符合语境。故选C项。

A. Ignored. B. Preserved. C. Developed. D. Celebrated.

【答案】28.A 29. C 30. B 31.

【答案】32. C 33. D 34. B 35. A
根据第二段“For smaller, slower flows, researchers have explored charge separation. They use a tube to let water flow through it continuously. Charges gather on the surface that the water touches. In this way, researchers can collect charges, but it is far from effective. (对于更小、更慢的水流,研究人员已经探索了电荷分离。他们用一根管子让水不断流过。电荷聚集在水接触的表面。通过这种方式,研究人员可以收集电荷,但效果远不理想。)”可知,研究人员面临的问题是收集电荷的效率很低。因此,NUS研究人员旨在解决的问题是电荷收集的低效性。故选C项。
33. 推理判断题。根据第三段“When these droplets enter the tube, their impacts create “plug flow,” in which the water forms mini columns separated by air gaps. (当这些水滴进入管道时,它们的撞击会产生“塞流”,即水形成由气隙隔开的小柱。)”可知,“塞流”指的是水形成由气隙隔开的小柱,结合选项可知,D项符合“塞流”的特点。故选D项。
34. 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“According to the study’s lead author, this model shows how rain can be used to generate clean electricity effectively and sustainably, especially in rainy places such as Singapore. Its potential is enormous, as it offers an alternative energy source even in cities. Imagine a rain collection device on your roof, producing small amounts of electricity whenever it rains — a small step for a raindrop, but a giant leap for sustainable energy technology.
通读全文,尤其是第一段“Now, researchers from the National University of Singapore (NUS) have tapped into this effect to generate electricity using rain-like droplets. (现在,新加坡国立大学(NUS)的研究人员利用这种效应,利用类似雨滴的水滴发电。)”可知,文章主要介绍了新加坡国立大学的研究人员利用雨滴撞击窄管产生的电荷分离效应来发电,展示了雨滴发电在绿色能源领域的巨大潜力,因此,A项“Revolutionary Energy from Raindrops (来自雨滴的革命性能源)”是最合适的标题。故选A项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
【答案】36. C 37. B 38. A 39. E 40. F

39. 由下文“Researchers in neuroscience explain dreams as patterns of brain activity, memory processing, and emotional regulation. REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, where most vivid dreaming occurs, is now understood as crucial for learning and psychological balance. Sigmund Freud suggested dreams were wish-fulfillments; Carl Jung saw them as messages from the collective unconscious. (神经科学领域的研究人员将梦境解释为大脑活动、记忆处理和情绪调节的模式。大多数生动梦境发生在快速眼动(REM)睡眠期间,现在人们认为这对学习和心理平衡至关重要。西格蒙德·弗洛伊德认为梦境是愿望的实现;卡尔·荣格则认为梦境是来自集体无意识的信息。)”可知,下文从科学的角度解释了梦境的作用和意义,本空应引出这一话题。E选项“Today, science throws light on the distinct roles of dreams. (今天,科学揭示了梦境的不同作用。)”能引出下文,符合语境。故选E。
40. 由下文“We walk with gods, with ancestors, with the timeless mysteries of existence. (我们与神灵同行,与祖先同行,与永恒的存在之谜同行。)”可知,下文说明我们与神灵、祖先和永恒的存在之谜同行,本空应说明在睡眠中我们也不孤单。F选项“The ancients remind us that even in sleep, we are not alone. (古人提醒我们,即使在睡眠中,我们也不孤单。)”能引出下文,符合语境。故选F。

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
