三、阅读理解
Nowadays, more and more people love to travel to enjoy beautiful natural landscapes. But while we enjoy the beauty of nature, we often bring problems to the environment.
Many travellers leave rubbish everywhere when they visit natural parks. The plastic bottles, food bags and other rubbish not only make the landscape look ugly, but also hurt wild animals. Animals may eat the rubbish by mistake and get sick, or even die. Some travellers carve words on the rocks or trees, which damages the natural landscape forever. Some people drive cars into the grassland, which kills the plants and destroys the home of small animals.
Luckily, more and more people have realized the problem. They start to travel in a "green" way. They take their rubbish away when they leave, they don’t pick flowers or damage trees, and they follow the rules of the natural parks. They choose to walk or ride bikes instead of driving cars when they visit the scenic spots. They also take photos of the beautiful landscapes and share them online, to call on more people to protect nature.
Beautiful landscapes are gifts from nature. They are not just for us to enjoy now, but also for the future generations. We should always remember: when we travel, take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints.

There is almost no rain or snow in a desert the whole year. The temperature(温度) is usually high in the day and low at night. There are few living things there.
Which is the largest desert? The answer is Antarctica (南极洲)! Isn’t it interesting? In fact, there are two main types of deserts: hot desert and cold desert. Antarctica is the coldest one. That is because it seldom snows, though there is lots of ice in Antarctica. The hottest and driest desert is the Sahara Desert, which is mostly made of sand.
Some plants, such as Agave, cactus and yucca, can grow there even in this waterless condition. All of them have special skills that help them keep alive in such a hard environment(环境). They have thick stems (茎) to store (储存)water and widespread roots to take in it. Some of them turn their leaves into thorns (刺) . In this way, they will lose less water in hot air.
There are animals living in the desert as well. Camels are able to drink up to 100 kg water at one time. They seldom sweat. It helps them to keep water in their bodies. And if they are thirsty, they may turn the fat in their humps into water.
Other animals, such as spiny-tailed lizards, do not need much water. They usually stay in a hole in the hot day and come out for food at cool night. When it rains, they come out to drink with their skin, not with their mouths!
