Christmas time with kids is filled with warm traditions:Listening to Christmas music while decorating
the tree, going to look af Christmas lights with hot chocolate in hand, and taking the kids to visit Santa
Claus.Well, delete that last one.At least for my family.
Parents think about how fun it will be at first to take their kids to see Santa,or tell them gifts are on
their way from Santa, but this comes with a series of annoying questions about Mr.Claus like how he makes
it to all the houses in one night,as well as the broken trust after revealing the truth.I didn't want that.
You may think that our Christmases were rigid and without any warmth or magic.I don't
think so.Part of that is due to what I taught my kids about Christmas.Instead of telling them Santa is real,
I told them it most likely has its origins in St.Nicholas,a man who was kind and generous to children in
need.Netflix's 2021 movie"A Boy Called Christmas"is a useful tool for helping kids connect Christmas
myths and traditions with reality while keeping the spirit of generosity alive.
The month of December is filled with movie and game nights, plays and concerts. These family
traditions have added flavor to my kids'entire childhood.Hopefully, they know now that it's the time with
family, doing special things together, that creates the magic and that my love for them goes well beyond
just one day-and that magic, wonder and awe can happen any time with family, especially if we remain
generous and grateful.
My kids are older now,and they're glad they didn't believe the myth of Santa. It was one fewer bad
memory for them, one fewer blow to their innocent childhood.
24.What is special for the author's family's Christmas time?
A.Appreciating Christmas lights.
B.skipping visiting Santa Claus.
C.Unlocking secrets of Santa Claus.
D.Helping Santa Claus deliver gifts.
25.What does the author want to convey to her kids in paragraph3?
A.Generosity comes from reality.
B.Warmth counts to Christmas.
C.St.Nicholas is an unsung hero.

26.What does the author intend to show by mentioning the magic of Christmas?
A.To prove that the Santa myth is not necessary for Christmas.

Is this text AI-generated?That question crops up a lot these days.Computer software to flag AI-
generated text exists. But most programs share one crucial weakness, says Jun Jang:no sense of style. His
new software hopes to fill that gap,
Jun's program takes note of a writer's stylistic characteristics. It can then use those characteristics to
check if another text was written by the same person.Jun says his project was motivated by seeing students
admit using AI tools on classroom assignments.
But relying too much on these tools can erode someone's creativity. It can also harm their ability to
work out problems themselves,Jun says. And young people are most at risk."I figured that by me making
an attempt to solve this issue,I could help millions of teachers as well as maybe help kids become more
creative and spark more innovation."Jun says.
AI use for homework is not rare. The Turnitin program is an existing tool to check who wrote a piece
of text.In the first year it was available,it analyzed more than 200 million student papers.Last year,it
reported evidence that some 11 in every 100 papers it reviewed had used AI for at least a fifth of their text.
Three in every 100 papers used AI for four-fifths of their content.
"That's absolutely no surprise,"Jun says. Some forms of generative AI are powerful,game-changing
technologies."Using AI can be good for education, obviously,"he says,"But a lot of kids don't use it
properly"
Since the release of some AI software, teachers increasingly have had to make hard calls. They must
decide whether a student wrote an essay,or just asked a machine to write it.Wrongfully flagging some
student's work as cheating would decrease the student's trust in their teacher.
Jun's new program hopes to limit that.
28.What does Jun's new software focus on?
A.Text length.
B.Content logic.C.Word count.
D.Writing style.
29.The underlined word "erode"is most likely to mean_
A.build
B.strengthen
C.damage
D.improve
30.What does Jun Jang say about students using AI for assignments?
A.It is always harmful.
B.It can be improperly used.
C.It should be banned.
D.It promotes true innovation.
31.What is the aim of Jun's new program?
A To increase students'writing speed.
B.To generate more essays for students.
C.To teach students to use Al properly.
D.To help teachers make right judgments.

Male green hermit hummingbirds(隐士蜂鸟)have bills developed for fighting, research finds..
Let's get one thing out of the way:All hummingbirds fight. Most species fight for food, using their
tiny bodies and sharp bills to force competitors away from flowers. But the green hermit hummingbird,
which lives mainly in mountain forests of Central and South America, fights to win a mate
Hummingbirds'weapon of choice?Their own bills. The birds raise a long,needle-thin bill into the air
before driving it into their opponent. The risks are high:They also use their bills to eat.Losing a fight means
a hummingbird might not find a mate.Breaking a bill could mean they starve.
New research found that these fights have shaped the species'evolution, making significant
differences in bill shape for male and female hermits.Compared to their females',the males'bills are
straighter, sharper, and structurally stronger. The straighter bills work better as weapons, while female birds'
more curved bills provide improved access to the inside of some flowers.
Through curvature (and angle analyses, researchers found that male bills are 3%straighter and
69%sharper,respectively,with a knife-like tip not found on female bills.But the differences,researchers
found, extend beyond bill shape.CT scans showed that the male bill's inner structure provided additional
strength by conducting forces more efficiently.
Finally, researchers observed that the male's straighter bill expends 52.4%less energy due to changes,
and is more resistant to breaking. The male bill experienced on average 39%less stress than the female bill.
They also found that male bills'straighter shape can offer a wider variety of attack angles, requiring less
precision while fighting.
32.Why do male green hermit hummingbirds fight?
A.To get enough food.
B.To gain a partner.
C.To keep wildness.
D.To protect nests.
33.What can we infer about hummingbirds from paragraph 3?
A.Bills affect survival.
B.Males fight less often.
C.They risk starving.
D.Being defeated means death.
34.What is the researchers'view on the different bills?
A.They are accidental and normal.
B.They make males good at feeding.
C.They reflect adaptive evolution
D.They are mainly for showing off.
35.Which can be the best title for the text?
A.How Hummingbirds Fight for Food
B.Bill Evolution in Hermit Hummingbirds
C.Why Male Hummingbirds Have Longer Bills
D.The Feeding Habits of Hermit Hummingbirds

The Power of Small Steps
In a world that often celebrates big achieyements and overnight success,it's easy to overlook the power
of small, consistent steps. Many of us set grand goals, only to feel discouraged when progress is slow or
invisible, failing to realise that lasting success is rarely built in a flash.36
Small steps are the building blocks of great things.Think about how a sced grows inte a tall tree.It

doesn't happen in a day.37 Every day,it absorbs sunlight and water, pushing its roots deeper into
the soil, until one day,it stands tall and strong,a proof of patience and persistence )Our goals are
like that seed-they need time and daily care.
_38 For example,if your goal is to improve your English, reading a short passage every day is
better than trying to finish a thick book in one weekend. The former builds a habit, the latter often leads to
burnout.Consistency is key,and small steps make consistency possible by keeping the task manageable.
Another advantage of small steps is that they reduce anxiety. When you take on a huge task,it's natural
to feel nervous.39However,breaking it into small steps helps. You'll feel a sense of
accomplishment with each small win, which will motivate you to keep going. This positive cycle can turn
even the most difficult goal into something manageable.
Small steps teach a growth lesson.40 So,the next time you're faced with a big goal, don't be
afraid to start small.Remember, every great journey begins with a single step.
A.Small steps help form good habits.
B.We may even give up before starting.
C.Work on the huge task a little bit daily.
D.IIt changes quietly and steadily underground.
E.But small steps have the power to change this.

Sumi's daughter Anna had always been called“Number23.”Every time the school released(发布)
exam results,Anna would always end up in,23rd position among 50 pupils.Always 23,regardless of topic
or term.Every time Sumi heard that nickname,it caused her concern.
When Sumi stayed with her friends, their discussion nearly always turned to their children. You know
how it goes-one parent discusses their child's piano honors, another boasts about math Olympiads or
leadership responsibilities. While others were honoring these"great youngsters,"all Sumi could think about
was Anna and her unpleasant nickname,Number 23.
Sumi had done everything to help Anna with school-hired professional teachers, bought fancy
stationery ()even packed brain food. And Anna tried. She gave up drawing, paper cutouts, and many
others. She moved from one class to another, endlessly trying. But then the indicators started showing-
she lost her appetite, couldn't sleep, and sweated all the time.Eventually, she got terribly sick. That was
when Sumi gave in.She stopped pressing and Anna bounced back to being the cheery little child they knew.
One day,Sumi and her friends went on a weekend trip with their families.During lunch, two kids got
into a heated quarrel over a single slice of cake.No one could calm them down. Then Anna stepped in.
"Let's flip (a coin,"she said.Simple as that.Boom!Problem solved.Everyone was astonished.
Later,on the journey back, they got delayea in traffic. The kids were getting restless.Anna? She started
