A Traditional Chinese Food Festival
Aiming to showcase varieties of traditional Chinese dishes and the cultures behind them, our
school held a traditional Chinese food festival last week.
During the festival,a food exhibition displayed diverse classic dishes like Beijing Roast
Duck and Cantonese dim sum, each representing a unique style. After that, students got an
opportunity to learn about practical cooking techniques, especially for making dumplings and
noodles. Finally, international students were thrilled to make dumplings by themselves and taste
them.
From my perspective, not only did the festival arouse international students'interest in
Chinese cuisine, but it also spread traditional Chinese culture.

Lionfish have been migrating (south for years. They were first discovered in the Gulf of
Mexico,in 1985,and quickly migrated into the US East Coast and the Caribbean. They reached South
American coastlines around 2010.
But the species stopped around Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago. For 10 years, freshwater
flowing from the Amazon River into the Atlantic and a gathering of currents acted as geographic(
)barriers, stopping the fish from continuing south. But around 2020,lionfish began slip-ping under
the barrier and heading south.
Now,dozens of lionfish have been spotted along 150 miles of Brazil's coastline, according to a
new study in Frontiers in Marine Science.Between March and May,when the water was clear enough
to track the fish, researchers and fishers documented 72 individuals there, which suggests they have
likely established new,successful populations.
Since March 2022,lionfish already managed to cover 700 kilometers of coastline, says Marcelo
Soares,a marine ecologist and lead author of the new study. He also reported the number of individuals
is now above 300
For many scientists, the question wasn't whether the fish species would continue moving south,
CS

but when."We knew once they made it through the barrier at the Amazon, they would spread like fire,"
says Osmar Luiz,an aquatic ecologist at Australia's Charles Darwin University
While efforts to fully get rid of lionfish may be useless, efforts to reduce their populations help
limit damage to native species.Luiz says that the next important step is to track lionfish as they move
and try to prevent them from establishing new populations. For the native species of Brazil, this fight is
a matter of survival,Luiz says.
28.Why did lionfish appear in South American coastlines?

B.Whether lionfish will continue moving.
C.It's impossible to reduce their populations.D.The spread of lionfish will destroy local
species.

Following the crowd may not always be in a person's best interest. But new research suggests
that teens who go along with their friends may end up healthier as adults
Scientists have known that close friendships are good for health. That's true for both teens and
adults. The finding inspired Joseph Allen,a psychologist at the University of Virginia, and his team to
study whether experiences during teen years would influence adult health.
So they followed 171 teens, starting when the kids were just 13.They interviewed each one every
year for five years, and also spoke to these teens'closest friends, who provided additional information
about the quality of their friendships. The same 171 people were interviewed again at ages 25,26 and
27.This time, the questions surveyed each person's overall health. When the researchers analyzed the
CS

data, they found a strong connection between a teen's behavior and adult health.Teens who had close
friends grew up to be the healthier adults.Whether teens held back their feelings or expressed them to a
close friend also influenced later health. Those who held back were more likely to be sick as adults. The
connection held up even after the scientists accounted for other possible influences on health.Weight,
family income and drug use were all examined. So were mental health issues, such as anxiety and
depression. And in these people, such other factors did not explain adult health as well as teen
friendships did.
Going along with the crowd may have benefits, says Allen, but there are also weaknesses.Teens
who are more independent tend to be better at school and work. And peer (pressure may lead to
some kids'risky behavior, such as smoking, drinking or using drugs.Dealing with it is an ongoing
challenge,Allen acknowledges."Finding the right balance is the key.Teens shouldn't lose heart for not
finding this easy."And,he adds,"Parents need to be understanding about the pressures teens face."
32.What is the function of paragraph one?

B.Its major difficulties

A.parents should guard teens from all peer pressure
B.independent teens are certain to avoid risky behaviors
C.Allen thinks teens should always follow their friends to keep their health
D.Allen believes balancing peer influence and independence is very important for teens
35.What is the main idea of the passage?

small as me.I felt a little worried about the game then.
"I can get an egg, right?I asked my mom nervously."Sure you can,"she answered with a
confident smile.I held my Easter basket tightly and my heart beat fast, when a hotel worker shouted
loudly,"Let's start in 3...2...1...Go!"All the kids ran across the grass at once, looking behind trees for
plastic Easter eggs full of candies.I ran to the nearest tree but found nothing. Then I ran to a nearby

showing their eggs happily.I knew I had little chance to find even one.On the other side of the grass,
