Chocolate made from cocoa (可可豆) comes from a civilization (文明) called the Maya. About 500 years ago, the Europeans found the Mayans. Then chocolate became popular all over the world.
For hundreds of years, only rich people could enjoy chocolate. It was hard for many people to get. But when Europeans started to make chocolate bars in the 19th century, it became different.
Chocolate comes in different colours and sizes. White, brown, black and milk chocolate are what people often eat. The biggest chocolate bar was made in Italy in 2011. It was about 6 tons as heavy as an elephant.
There are also different shapes of chocolates. People often give these chocolates as gifts on different special days. Chocolate bunnies (小兔子) and eggs are popular with people on Easter (复活节), chocolate coins are common on Christmas, and chocolate hearts are great gifts for Valentine’s Day. Julia’s mum is very good at making sweet cakes. But this year, she brings some pencils. Why? Because Julia’s school makes a new rule: Students can’t bring sweet treats to school parties.

【28题详解】
词义猜测题。根据最后一段“But Julia’s classmates like the pencils very much. That makes her feel better.”可知,但是Julia的同学非常喜欢铅笔,这让她感觉好些;据此可以推断,划线单词“That”指代“Julia的同学们喜欢她妈妈为他们准备的铅笔”这件事。故选D。
