What is the stock market?
When people talk about the stock market, they often think of noisy trading floors and complicated numbers. But at its heart, the stock market is simply a place where people buy and sell ownership of companies.
How prices change in the stock market
The price of a stock depends on supply and demand—just like any other product.
• When more people want to buy a stock than sell it, the price goes up.
• When more people want to sell a stock than buy it, the price goes down.
The price keeps changing until it reaches a point where the number of buyers and sellers is balanced. This is called the market price. It shows what people are willing to pay at that moment based on all the information they have.
26. What is the stock market mainly about?
A. Trading floors. B. Complex numbers.
C. Buying and selling ownership. D. Making friends.
27. What happens when more people sell a stock than buy it?
A. The price stops changing. B. The price goes down.
C. The price goes up. D. The market closes.
28. What does the market price tell us?
A. The company's future. B. The best time to sell.
C. What buyers and sellers agree on. D. The total value of the company.
Task IV Present what to do for wildlife.
B
World Environment Day takes place on June 5. One way to celebrate the natural world around us—and to educate others about its importance—is to create a wildlife garden. A wildlife garden is a space that provides food and shelter for birds, insects, and small animals. Here's how you can get started.
Pick a spot
First, choose an area in your garden or yard. It doesn't have to be big. A small corner or even some pots on a balcony can work. A sunny spot will attract butterflies, while a shady area is better for beetles and frogs. Do some observation and decide which part of your outdoor space has the most potential.
[___]
Once you have chosen the spot, learn about the native plants in your region. Native plants provide the best food and shelter for local wildlife. Find out which flowers attract bees and butterflies, and which bushes give berries for birds. Make a list of the plants that will grow well in the soil and climate of your area.
Plant and care
Start planting! Dig the soil, add some compost (堆肥), and place your plants carefully. Water them regularly, especially in the first few weeks, until they are strong. You can also add a small water bowl for birds and insects to drink from. Don't use pesticides—they are harmful to the very creatures you are trying to help.
Enjoy and protect
Sit back and watch your garden come alive. You might see butterflies dancing, bees buzzing, and birds singing. Keep a notebook and record the different species that visit. Invite your neighbours to come and see. A wildlife garden not only helps nature but also brings a small piece of wild beauty into your life.
29. What is the purpose of creating a wildlife garden?
A. To make your house look nicer. B. To grow vegetables for the family.
C. To provide food and shelter for animals. D. To win gardening competitions.
30. Which of the following is the most suitable for [___]?
A. Buy some tools B. Do some research
C. Invite some helpers D. Take some photos
31. What should you avoid using in a wildlife garden?
A. Compost. B. Water. C. Pesticides. D. Native plants.
32. What can you do after your wildlife garden is built?
A. Leave it alone forever. B. Pull out all the plants.
C. Record the wildlife that visits. D. Replace native plants with exotic ones.

A rainbow is one of the most beautiful and popular light shows in nature. But have you ever seen a moonbow? A moonbow is just like a rainbow, but it appears at night. It is formed by moonlight instead of sunlight.
Sunlight and moonlight share a common quality—they are both white light. White light is actually made up of all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. When white light passes through water droplets (水滴) in the air, the light bends. Different colors bend at different angles. This separates the white light into its different colors, creating a rainbow or a moonbow.
Moonbows are much rarer than rainbows. One reason is that moonlight is thousands of times weaker than sunlight, so it is harder to see the colors clearly. Another reason is that people are usually asleep when moonbows appear. They require a dark sky, so they are most often seen a few hours after sunset or before sunrise, during a full or nearly full moon.
The best places to see moonbows are near large waterfalls where there are lots of water droplets in the air. Victoria Falls in Africa and Niagara Falls in North America are famous for their moonbows. Cumberland Falls in Kentucky, USA, even has a special viewing area for moonbow visitors.
If you are lucky enough to see one, you might notice that the colors seem softer and more dreamlike than those of a daytime rainbow. The moonbow is like a ghostly echo of its bright daytime sister. It is a gentle reminder that beauty exists in all forms of light.
33. What forms a moonbow?
A. Sunlight passing through ice. B. Moonlight passing through water droplets.
C. Starlight passing through clouds. D. Electric lights passing through mist.
34. Why are moonbows much rarer than rainbows?
A. Moonlight is much weaker than sunlight.
B. The moon is too far away from Earth.
C. Water droplets are not present at night.
D. The colors of moonlight are very dull.
35. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Light: A Great Wonder B. Rainbow: A Symbol of Hope
C. The Moon: Our Nearest Neighbor D. Moonbow: A Nighttime Mystery
36. Which is the best query after reading the passage?
A. How many colors are there in white light?
B. Why do water droplets bend light at different angles?
C. Where is the best place to see a rainbow?
D. Why can the moon still create a bow with such weak light?
Task VI Experience the power of a blue dress.

Lily had been at her new school for a month, but she still hadn't made any close friends. She felt invisible and lonely. [①] She often walked home alone, thinking about her old school and the friends she had left behind.
One Friday, Lily's mother brought home a beautiful blue dress from a second-hand shop. "I saw this and thought of you," she said. "It's made of such soft material." Lily looked at the dress. It was old-fashioned but charming.
"Try it on," her mother encouraged. Lily put on the dress and looked in the mirror. She had to admit, the dress made her look different. It had delicate embroidery and a belt that matched perfectly. She felt a little bit special.
On Monday, Lily wore the blue dress to school. [②] As she walked down the hallway, a girl named Emma stopped her. "Wow! That dress is so cool," Emma said. "I love the vintage style."
"Thank you," Lily replied, trying not to smile too widely.
"Where did you get it?" Emma asked. When Lily told her it was from a second-hand shop, Emma was even more impressed. "That's amazing! I love looking for old treasures. Maybe we could go together sometime."
[③] That simple question made Lily's heart leap with hope. For the first time since she had moved, she felt connected.
"As soon as Emma and I had this connection, we were best friends," Lily later recalled. "And so many happy moments followed." They spent the whole lunch time talking about fashion, music, and their dreams.
Lily realized that sometimes, all it takes is one small thing—like a blue dress—to open a door. It wasn't the dress itself that changed things. It was the courage to be herself and the willingness to say "yes" to a new friendship.
37. Why did Lily feel lonely at the new school?
A. She didn't like her teachers. B. She lived too far from school.
C. She hadn't made any close friends. D. Her old friends didn't write to her.
38. What did Lily's mother bring home?
A. A new schoolbag. B. A blue dress.
C. A pair of shoes. D. A second-hand book.
39. What does the blue dress stand for in the story?
A. A secret between mother and daughter. B. A chance to start a new friendship.
C. A reminder of Lily's old life. D. A prize for doing well at school.
40. Which underlined sentence shows an important turning point?
A. Sentence ①. B. Sentence ②. C. Sentence ③. D. Sentence ④.

Karen Young's book, First Aid for Feelings: A Workbook to Help Kids Cope During the Coronavirus Pandemic, is a helpful and comforting guide that supports children's mental health during difficult times. The book uses simple activities to help children understand and manage their feelings. Young is a psychologist (心理学家) who has worked with children for over 20 years. During the pandemic, she noticed that many children were feeling anxious, confused, and lonely. She decided to create a workbook that children could use at home, with or without the help of a parent. Young says, "I chose the workbook format because children learn best by doing. It's not just about reading—it's about taking action."
In the workbook, we meet different feelings like "the worry monster" and "the calm cloud." Children are guided to draw, colour, and write about their own experiences. "At that age you're learning to name your feelings," says Young. "Sometimes you just need someone to tell you that what you're feeling is normal."
Young guides readers through activities that help them identify their emotions, calm their bodies, and build a "toolkit" of strategies. Some activities are simple, like deep breathing, while others—like keeping a gratitude diary—take more practice. With the help of the workbook, children—who Young describes as "brave and honest"—can find ways to feel more in control.
Young hopes the book will help children realise that all feelings are okay, and that there are always things they can do to feel better. She says, "Whatever you're feeling, whether it's worry, sadness, or anger, those feelings will not last forever. You have the power to help yourself. It's going to be okay."
