I’m Caroline. I walked into Renewal after a long day at work. I’d been “going” all day—stressing about a new project, scheduling meetings—everything with the goal of crossing tasks off my to-do list. My final “to-do” of the day was my first acupuncture (针灸) treatment. I kept asking myself: Where would the needles go? Would they hurt? How long would it take? Did this treatment really fit into my schedule?
Since it was my first appointment, the acupuncturist Tessa and I talked about my medical history, health concerns, and how acupuncture might help. Previously, several things had come to mind when I thought about acupuncture: various friends who tried it to help with pain.
Fortunately, I didn’t feel pain, but I learned that acupuncture may still help me with my mental health. I explained to Tessa that I struggle with managing anxiety during stressful situations, and sometimes even when there’s no direct cause.
After we talked, I lay down as Tessa explained how she’d begin the treatment. The placement of each needle has its purpose rooted in Chinese medicine: from the top of my head, down my arms, and on my feet. My questions from before were all answered, even though I had already forgotten them. After all the needles had been placed, Tessa left the room for the rest of my session and came back to check on me occasionally. I almost fell asleep and found that the process ate away my previous fear.
After my treatment, my mind felt clear. My weekly to-do list was back on my mind, but seemed far less frightening. I felt inspired to consider everything I could do to keep both my mind and body healthy. It’s one thing to know about the importance of self-care, but another to really believe in it. Now I think I’m on my way.
24.How did Caroline feel before the first acupuncture treatment?
A.Puzzled but cheerful. B.Exhausted but happy.
C.Worried and restless. D.Upset and stressed.
25.Why did Caroline mention her friends in Paragraph 2?
A.To show the acupuncture’s popularity.
B.To prove the acupuncture’s effectiveness.
C.To show her former impression of acupuncture.
D.To share their unique experiences of acupuncture.
26.What do we know about Caroline during the treatment?
A.She failed to remove former worries. B.She was asleep all the way.
C.She fell asleep at the beginning of it. D.She slowly dealt with her anxiety.
27.What does Caroline’s experience show?
A.Think twice before you act. B.Where there is a will, there is a way.
C.Slow and steady wins the race. D.The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

25.第二段提到“Previously, several things had come to mind when I thought about acupuncture: various friends who tried it to help with pain.”,这是Caroline之前对针灸的印象来源,因此她提到朋友是为了说明自己过去对针灸的看法,对应选项C。
26.文中提到治疗过程中她的焦虑和恐惧逐渐消失,“found that the process ate away my previous fear”,说明她在治疗过程中慢慢缓解了焦虑,对应选项D。

The Cambridge Dictionary’s Word of the Year 2025, “parasocial”, made me think of my college years. When I went to college, I expected to have the kind of social experiences I had seen in some old movies: close friendships with curious readers and late-night discussions about the meaning of life. But social life at my college was full of loud parties, not late-night discussions. Worse, it was a school in the American South with a different set of cultural expectations. Northern kids like me had a hard time fitting in.
It was a lonely time. Reading the work of people who seemed to care about the same things I did helped me feel better. “Insist on (坚持) yourself,” Ralph Waldo Emerson advised. “Never imitate (仿效).” I could almost feel his hand on my shoulder as I stood apart from my schoolmates. I talked with other students, of course. But so often, I felt as if they could never be my friends. With friends, I imagined, there must be a real meeting of minds. Friendships come in many forms. It’s simply easier to find people who share our ideas in books and movies than in the small circle of people nearby. After all, it’s a bigger world out there. We can easily find all sorts of people writing or being written about, photographing or being photographed. We may find people we really admire, who are better-looking or smarter than anyone we know personally. It is easy to want to make friends with the characters in books and movies.
Today, though, there is another choice for people who have difficulty forming connections: AI. You can create a friend that you cannot find in real life. AI can take on almost any role. In some ways, it seems like the perfect friend.
But these parasocial friendships are always one-sided. Real friendships are reciprocal. We want support from our friends, and they want support from us. We want to share our news and ideas with our friends, and they want to share theirs with us. It’s comforting to know that you’re not alone in having a certain thought or fear. However, it’s also important to provide that comfort for someone else.
So, celebrate your admiration for Ralph Waldo Emerson (or Taylor Swift, as the case may be). But don’t be afraid to have lunch with someone who celebrates their admiration for someone completely different.
28.According to the author, when he went to college, he expected to ________.
A.become a curious reader
B.have close friendships with other book lovers
C.develop parasocial friendships with book characters
D.discuss the meaning of life with his professors at night
29.According to the article, parasocial friendships include those with ________.
① AI ② book characters ③ movie characters
④ people with similar interests ⑤ people with different interests
A.①②③ B.②③④ C.③④⑤ D.①②⑤
30.Which of the following words from the article is the opposite of the underlined word “reciprocal”?
A.Real. B.Curious. C.One-sided. D.Comforting.
31.At the end of the article, the author suggests that people ________.
A.replace real friends with AI friends
B.read more books to discover like-minded friends
C.be open to connecting with people who are different
D.only make friends with those who share the same interests
【答案】28.B 29.A 30.C 31.C
28.第一段明确指出“When I went to college, I expected to have the kind of social experiences I had seen in some old movies: close friendships with curious readers and late-night discussions about the meaning of life.”,说明作者期望和爱书的人建立亲密友谊。
29.文中第二段“It’s simply easier to find people who share our ideas in books and movies than in the small circle of people nearby.…It is easy to want to make friends with the characters in books and movies.”及第三段“You can create a friend that you cannot find in real life. AI can take on almost any role. In some ways, it seems like the perfect friend.”
30.第四段提到“But these parasocial friendships are always one-sided. Real friendships are reciprocal.”,两句话形成对比,可推测one‑sided是reciprocal的反义词。
31.最后一段指出“But don’t be afraid to have lunch with someone who celebrates their admiration for someone completely different.”,说明作者建议人们主动接触不同的人。
D
Shenzhen is the first city in China to ask schools to have daily P.E. classes for primary and middle school students. Buxin Primary School in Luohu District has a “3+1+1” model—three P.E. classes, one music-based exercise class and one sports game class. This makes sure that students have five P.E. classes per week.
Then there is a new problem: there aren’t enough P.E. teachers. Buxin Primary School lets teachers from other subjects teach some P.E. classes. For example, Liu Xunhua, a Chinese teacher, is also a part-time P.E. teacher. He says daily P.E. classes are good for students’ health and he supports the idea.
Besides, many schools don’t have much space for the new P.E. classes. To solve the problem, Longhua Foreign Languages School makes full use of space in the school. For example, students can run uphill (朝上坡方向) and jump on steps. If there are too many P.E. classes at the same time, teachers will take students to the public basketball court (公共篮球场) near the school. It’s just across the street from the school playground.
Students enjoy daily P.E. classes. Yuan Yinuo, a sixth grader, thinks sports can make students feel less stressed in daily study and before exams. Chen Xinru, an eighth grader, says daily P.E. classes can help them improve their studies. However, some parents are worried about daily P.E. classes taking up the learning time for other subjects, although they know the importance of P.E. classes.
Now, many other big cities like Beijing and Shanghai are also trying out daily P.E. classes. They want to make sure that students get enough exercise at school.
32.How many P.E. classes do students at Buxin Primary School have per week?
A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.
33.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.The ways of solving the space problem.
B.The lack (缺乏) of P.E. teachers in schools.
C.The importance of P.E. classes in students’ study.
D.The different views of students on daily P.E. classes
34.What do the underlined words “less stressed” mean in English?
A.More tired. B.More relaxed. C.Less bored. D.Less excited.
35.Which is the right structure (结构) of the text? (①= Paragraph 1, ②= Paragraph 2…)
A.①②③④/⑤ B.①/②③④⑤ C.①②/③④/⑤ D.①/②③/④/⑤
【答案】32.C 33.A 34.B 35.D

根据第1段“Buxin Primary School in Luohu District has a “3+1+1” model—three P.E. classes, one music-based exercise class and one sports game class. This makes sure that students have five P.E. classes per week.”
根据第3段“Besides, many schools don’t have much space for the new P.E. classes. To solve the problem, Longhua Foreign Languages School makes full use of space in the school.” 故选A。
Every new school year comes with a fresh start. What are you going to do differently and better? 36
Go to class every day. When you miss a day, or even a class, it’s easy to fall behind. 37 If you have to miss a class, make sure you meet with your teacher to find out what you missed.
Ask questions. 38 Believe it or not, most teachers want you to learn and they are always there to help you. If you aren’t comfortable asking questions in front of the class, go to talk to the teacher after class.
39 Like it or not, homework is an important part of school. There’s not much you can do to get around (逃避) it. Make it a habit to do your homework at the same time every day. If possible, you can find a study partner and do homework with him or her.
Try new things and make new friends. Try a new sport, something you think you will be good at. 40 Keep your old friends, but get some new ones, too. Making friends with someone is easier when you join a club.
Remember, it’s up to you to decide what kind of school year you’re going to have. Make full use of it while you can!
A.Take your homework seriously.
B.Don’t be afraid to ask the teacher questions!
C.If sports aren’t your thing, try joining a club.
D.When you are preparing yourself, keep in mind the following.
E.The best way to stay with the development of the class is to be there.
F.It is important to take notes carefully.
【答案】36.D 37.E 38.B 39.A 40.C

The Flyer only traveled about 120 feet. 44 , it had flown! The brothers continued to work on their plane. After a while, it could stay in the air for over one hour.
Other 45 followed the work of the Wright brothers. They looked for ways to improve airplanes. They helped planes fly faster and longer. They also worked to make planes bigger to fit more people. Today, hundreds of planes take to the sky each day. People fly to go across the country or across the seas. We have the Wright brothers to thank for the first flight.

C
