At just 10, he became a member of the national skiing team. At 12, he tried surfing for the first time in Hawaii. While climbing the surfboard, he felt a strange pain in his back. Fifteen minutes after returning to the hotel room to rest, he tried to stand up from the bed. To his shock, he immediately fell and realized he had lost all mobility in his legs. He was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with surfer’s myelopathy, a type of severe spinal cord injury, meaning he was paralysed from the waist down. The doctors told him, “You will never walk again.” His dream was shattered, but he refused to let it defeat him. With a sustained effort, he honed his own approach to visualization, sending a clear message to his legs that he needed them and counted on them. Transforming his vision into reality was one of the most challenging journeys of his life, consuming his days, months, and years with rigorous physical training, including physiotherapy and self-exercises. He faced countless obstacles, from the stiffness in his muscles to the limitations on his movement. However, he remained steadfast in his determination to overcome every challenge. And his family always believed in him and helped him from the very beginning. His mother got up in the middle of the night and moved his legs. His brother carried him up the stairs when he couldn’t walk. A year later, he could take his first steps without crutches. Today he is back in motion, and even though his walking is still challenging, it is improving every day. He has gradually started running and participating in marathons. Now his goal is to participate in all the major marathons worldwide one day, as well as to return to Hawaii to participate in the Hawaii Ironman. “Breaking free from my limitations has been an emotional journey, and it has transformed my life in countless ways. My passion today lies in inspiring individuals to believe in themselves and to pursue their dreams even in the face of obstacles,” Tim said. 4. What part of Tim’s body was injured? A. His legs. B. Although it is popularly recognized for its positive effects, existing studies on the relationship between watching sports and well-being offer only limited evidence. Recognizing this gap, a team led by Associate Professor Shintaro Sato from Waseda University embarked on a groundbreaking piece of research. “A significant challenge in well-being research is the subjective nature of measurement procedures, potentially leading to biased findings. Therefore, we undertook a series of studies using a multi-method approach, combining secondary data analysis, self-reports and neuroimaging measures,” explains Sato. In the first study, the researchers analyzed large-scale publicly available data on the influence of watching sports on 20,000 residents. The results confirmed the ongoing pattern of elevated reported well-being associated with regular sports viewing. However, this study was limited by its inability to provide deeper insight into the relationship between sports viewing and well-being. The second study, an online survey aimed at investigating whether the connection between sports viewing and well-being varies depending on the type of sport watched, involved 208 participants. The experiment exposed them to various sports videos, assessing their well-being both before and after viewing them. The findings underlined widely embraced sports exerted a more significant impact on enhancing well-being compared to less popular sports. However, the most groundbreaking findings emerged from the third study. Here, the team employed neuroimaging techniques to scrutinize changes in brain activity of fourteen participants while they watched sports clips. The results illuminated sports viewing triggered activation in the brain’s reward circuit, indicative of feelings of happiness. Additionally, they revealed individuals reporting watching sports more frequently exhibited greater gray matter volume in regions associated with reward circuits, suggesting regular sports viewing may gradually induce changes in brain structures, which fosters long-term benefits. The study has profound implications and theoretical contributions to sports management literature. Existing literature has primarily focused on sports fans, but this study has taken into consideration a larger general population irrespective of their relationship to sports viewing. This research can contribute significantly to sports management practices and policymaking for public health. 8. What is the primary focus of the research? A. The popularity of different sports among viewers. B. The effective approaches to measuring well-being. C. The positive impacts of playing sports on well-being. D. The connection between viewing sports and well-being. 9. How did the researchers conduct the first study? A. By doing a survey online. B. By analyzing previous data. C. By using neuroimaging methods. D. By interviewing people face to face. 10. What does the underlined word “scrutinize” in paragraph 5 mean? A. Cause. B. Predict. C. Prevent. D. Examine. 11. What is implied in the last paragraph? A. Future policies might promote sports viewing. B. There are an increasing number of sports fans. C. There are growing works of literature on well-being. D. Everyone may have a different definition of well-being. D 9. B 10. D 11. 根据第一段中的“Although it is popularly recognized for its positive effects, existing studies on the relationship between watching sports and well-being offer only limited evidence.(尽管观看体育运动带来的积极影响已广为认可,但现有关于其与幸福感关联的研究,仅能提供有限依据。)”及第二段中的“Recognizing this gap, a team led by Associate Professor Shintaro Sato from Waseda University embarked on a groundbreaking piece of research.(认识到这一差距,早稻田大学副教授佐藤新太郎带领的团队开展了一项开创性的研究。)” 根据第三段中的“In the first study, the researchers analyzed large-scale publicly available data on the influence of watching sports on 20,000 residents.(在第一项研究中,研究人员分析了大规模的公开数据,这些数据是关于观看体育赛事对20,000名居民的影响。)” 根据第五段中“Here, the team employed neuroimaging techniques to scrutinize changes in brain activity of fourteen participants while they watched sports clips(在这里,研究小组采用神经成像技术来scrutinize14名参与者在观看体育片段时大脑活动的变化。)” 根据最后一段中的“This research can contribute significantly to sports management practices and policymaking for public health.(这项研究可以对体育管理实践和公共卫生政策制定做出重大贡献。)” D Over the past few years, I have found myself turning to audiobooks (有声读物) as my main means of reading literature. After a day of looking at my laptop, I find it more comfortable to read with my ears while my eyes are resting. My consumption of news has doubled as a result, but a recent paper recommended by my husband makes me wonder if this will come at the price of my comprehension. The study comes from Boaz Keysar and Janet Geipel, both at the University of Chicago, and it draws a view that we have two ways of assessing information from the dual process model of mental processing. System 1 is intuitive (直觉的), relying on natural ability and feeling. It is quick, but likely exposed to misinformation. System 2 is analytical, involving the use of logical reasoning. It is mentally demanding. To take an example, consider the following question: how many animals of each kind did Moses take on the Ark (方舟)? If you answered two, you were probably only considering the core of the question, which is System 1 thinking. To get to the right answer — zero, you need to think more carefully about the wording, which will allow you to remember it was Noah rather than Moses who built the Ark. That is an analytical process. Keysar and Geipel’s brilliant idea was to investigate whether the sensory form — seeing vs hearing — of the information would make a difference. They found that it did: When answering simple questions, participants were more likely to make errors when the sentences were spoken rather than written. A greater reliance on our feeling could be a problem if we are consuming information that needs logical study. For this reason, I will return to reading non-fiction with my eyes rather than my ears. But I won’t stop listening to novels. I am quite happy to go, with the flow of my emotions while my critical mind takes a break. 12. What does the author think of listening to audiobooks? A. It improves her hearing. B. It consumes much time. C. It gives her eyes a break. D. It slows her reading pace. 13. Which of the following can best describe System 2 thinking? A. Relatively reliable. B. Fully automatic. C. Time-saving. D. Emotion-involved. 14. Why is the Ark mentioned in paragraph 2? A. To present a fact. B. To illustrate a view. C. To introduce a topic. D. To draw a conclusion. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. Reading non-fiction books benefits people B. Listening to books comes at a price C. Critical thinking is a must in reading novels D. Audiobooks enjoy great popularity with people 【答案】12. C 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第一段中的“After a day of looking at my laptop, I find it more comfortable to read with my ears while my eyes are resting. (在盯着笔记本电脑看了一天后,我发现在眼睛休息时用耳朵‘阅读’更舒服。)”可知,作者认为听有声书可以让她的眼睛得到休息。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中的“System 2 is analytical, involving the use of logical reasoning. It is mentally demanding. (系统2是分析性的,涉及逻辑推理的运用。它对精神要求很高。)”以及后文通过举例说明系统2思考能得出正确答案,可推断出系统2思考相对可靠。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中的“To take an example, consider the following question: how many animals of each kind did Moses take on the Ark (方舟)? (举个例子,考虑以下问题:摩西在方舟上每种动物带了多少只?)”以及后文对系统1和系统2思考的解释,可知提到方舟是为了举例说明观点,即通过这个问题来阐述系统1和系统2思考的不同。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“My consumption of news has doubled as a result, but a recent paper recommended by my husband makes me wonder if this will come at the price of my comprehension. (结果,我对新闻的消费翻了一番,但我丈夫最近推荐的一篇论文让我怀疑这是否会以我的理解为代价。)”以及后文对听有声读物可能影响理解的阐述,可知本文主要围绕听有声读物是否会付出理解上的代价展开,所以B选项“听书是有代价的”适合作标题。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to find your dream career In a world where we all spend so much time working, the job you have plays a big role in your overall happiness. Located 37. has been playing##has played 38. in 39. hills 40. where 41. to blind 42. is 43. that 44. dating 45. unusual 【解析】 【导语】本文介绍了居庸关长城,它是世界遗产,位于北京昌平区南部,靠近八达岭长城,自战国时期就发挥重要作用。 Since the Warring States Period可知,此处强调从过去持续到现在的动作或状态,可用现在完成进行时,表示动作从过去开始一直持续到现在,并且可能还会继续下去;也可用现在完成时,表示过去发生的动作对现在造成的影响或结果。其结构分别为“have/has been +现在分词”和“have/has +过去分词”,主语it是第三人称单数,所以用has been playing或has played。 One of these relics, date back to意为“追溯到”,无被动形式。 他在信中表明“My deskmate often shook my desk and I gave him a push, thus causing a quarrel. As the children of the observatory’s researchers, they were not strangers to those joyful Arctic creatures and often saw them happily leaping up and down, digging holes in the snow for warmth, and chasing after their prey. Of the two, Alex seemed to be more attached to those furry animals and formed a particularly strong bond with those lovely friends. “We’re not small kids, Alex. It’s high time we matured and stopped treating the foxes like pets,” Lily said. Alex said in disagreement, “But they seem to enjoy my petting and respond to me!” Smiling softly, Lily jokingly called him “a fox charmer”. But Alex just smiled and turned blind eyes to it. Suddenly, an urgent alarm set off, followed by flashing red lights, indicating there were troubles. Rushing to see what was happening, they discovered the surroundings were colder than ever, with frost beginning to form on the wall. Never had Lily seen such a sight in the observatory. “The heating system must have failed!” she exclaimed in disbelief. Wasting no time, Lily sent a message to their parents, who were doing fieldwork outside. Now, it was up to Lily and Alex to face the extreme cold themselves and survive the extreme cold until help arrived. As time went by, their bodies began to shake uncontrollably. “We must do something or we’ll freeze to death!” Lily cried loudly in desperation. With panic setting in, Alex noticed that the pack of foxes huddling together in the snow just now began to dig a snow hole. In a moment of inspiration, he remembered how the foxes would dig deep into the snow to protect themselves from the extreme cold, creating a warm environment beneath the frozen Arctic land. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 “I’ve got an idea to keep us warm,” Alex smiled and comforted his sister. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After more than two hours, their parents came to their rescue. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: “I’ve got an idea to keep us warm,” Alex smiled and comforted his sister. “We can dig a snow hole like the foxes. It’ll trap heat and protect us from the bitter cold.” Lily’s eyes lit up with hope. Together, they started digging into the snow, using their hands and whatever tools they could find. As they dug deeper, they felt the temperature around them rising slightly. Finally, they collapsed into the small snow cave they had created, hugging each other tightly for warmth. After more than two hours, their parents came to their rescue. Upon seeing the makeshift snow cave, their parents were both relieved and impressed. “You two are incredible,” their father said, his voice filled with pride. Lily and Alex were carefully pulled from the snow cave and wrapped in warm blankets. Sitting in the observatory’s emergency shelter, they couldn’t help but smile at each other, grateful for the unbreakable bond they shared. From that day on, they appreciated the Arctic foxes even more, not just for their beauty but for the valuable lesson the foxes had taught them about survival. 3.词汇激活 行为类 ①保护:protect /preserve ②拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①感到宽慰的:relieved/comforted ②感激的:grateful/appreciative 【点睛】【高分句型 1】Sitting in the observatory’s emergency shelter, they couldn’t help but smile at each other, grateful for the unbreakable bond they shared.(运用了现在分词作状语以及省略关系词的定语从句) 【高分句型 2】As they dug deeper, they felt the temperature around them rising slightly.(运用了 as引导的时间状语从句 ) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高二英语 (120分钟 150分) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1.What happened to the woman last night? A. His legs. B. His waist. C. His spinal cord. D. His back muscles. 5. How did Tim’s family help him according to the text? A. By providing him with daily physical care. B. By encouraging him to develop new hobbies. C. By taking him to seek medical treatment worldwide. D. By helping him gradually accept doctors’ diagnosis. 6. Which of the following is one of Tim’s goals? A. To join the national skiing team. B. To compete in the Hawaii Ironman. C. To attend all the marathons nationwide. D. To become a world-famous champion surfer. 7. Which of the following can best describe Tim? A. Generous and creative. B. Ambitious and modest. C. Warm-hearted and humorous. D. Strong-minded and inspiring. C Watching sports fosters a sense of belonging among audiences, making individuals feel good and benefiting society. D Over the past few years, I have found myself turning to audiobooks (有声读物) as my main means of reading literature. Audiobooks enjoy great popularity with people 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to find your dream career In a world where we all spend so much time working, the job you have plays a big role in your overall happiness. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
