Many people today live in cities and spend most of their time indoors, looking at screens. They seem to be far away from nature. However, studies have shown that people feel happier and healthier when they spend time around plants, trees and animals. In fact, humans have a natural need to connect with the natural world.
Children who play outside regularly often have stronger bodies and sharper minds. When they run on grass, climb trees or look at insects, they can relax and focus better. Some children who easily get nervous or cannot sit still in class often improve after spending more time in natural environments. Instead of staying indoors all day, playing in parks or woods can really help them.
For adults, nature also works as great medicine. When people feel stressed from work or study, walking in a park or sitting by a lake can calm their minds. Even looking out of a window at some green plants can help people feel less tired. Many doctors now advise patients to go outside more often, because fresh air and natural views help the body stay healthy.
Old people who have access to gardens or natural places usually enjoy a better quality of life. They feel less lonely and more peaceful. Being around plants and sunlight improves both their physical health and mood.
Some people think that we should protect nature just for animals or for the environment. The truth is that we protect nature because we need it. Nature is not far away from us. It is part of our life. We need it for our health, happiness and development.
If people forget how to connect with nature, they may feel unhappy, stressed or unwell. Spending even a short time outside each day can make a big difference. So whenever you can, go outside, enjoy the wind, the sun and the green world around you.
29. According to the passage, what helps children improve their focus and calm down?
A. Playing more computer games. B. Spending time in nature.
C. Staying indoors all day. D. Taking more medicine.
30. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. People who live in cities never need nature.
B. Nature can help adults reduce stress.
C. Old people do not get benefits from nature.
D. We should protect nature only for animals.
31. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Why people need to connect with nature.
B. How children can make their bodies strong.
C. When people should go outside.
D. Where people can find beautiful gardens.

In old China, people didn’t just say “I’m 13” or “I’m 30.” They used fun, poetic names for different ages—like secret codes for growing up! Let’s check out some of the coolest ones.
Cardamom Years (豆蔻年华): This name is for girls around 13 years old. It comes from a Tang Dynasty poem, where a poet compared 13-year-old girls to cardamom flowers just starting to bloom. It means “the fresh, lovely time of being a young teen.”
Hairpin Ceremony (及笄): When a girl turned 15, she’d have a special ceremony called ji ji. She’d put a hairpin in her hair to show she was now a young woman, old enough to take on more responsibilities and think about marriage.
Standing Firm (而立之年): This is for people turning 30. “Standing firm” means “standing on your own two feet.” By 30, ancient Chinese people thought you should have a clear life plan, be independent, and know what you want to do.
No Confusion (不惑之年): At 40, you’re in the “age of no confusion.” After years of learning and experience, you understand the world better and don’t get easily tricked or confused by tricky situations.
Knowing Your Path (知天命之年): When you hit 50, you enter the “age of knowing heaven’s will.” This doesn’t mean giving up—it means knowing your strengths and what you’re meant to do, so you focus on the things that really matter.
These age names aren’t just old words—they’re like little stories about growing up. They show how ancient Chinese people thought about getting older: not just counting years, but growing wiser and stronger.
32. What does “Cardamom Years” refer to?
A. Boys at 13 B. Girls around 13 C. All teenagers D. Adults at 30
33. What happened at the Hairpin Ceremony for a 15-year-old girl?
A. She put a hairpin in her hair to show she was a young woman.
B. She got a new bike.
C. She started school.
D. She got married.
34. According to the passage, what should people do at “Standing Firm”?
A. Play video games all day. B. Have a clear life plan and be independent.
C. Stop learning new things. D. Get married immediately.
35. What does the writer think of these age names?
A. They are boring and useless.
B. They are too hard to understand.
C. They are only for old people.
D. They are cool stories that show old Chinese ideas about growing up.
D
Most of us realize that we must take care of the environment, and most of us take steps to save energy and reduce waste and pollution. But recently, some “green truths” have been shown to be only half true, or even completely false. Here are some common ones. Which are really green?
Paper shopping bags are better than plastic ones.
Plastic bags cause litter and are a danger to wild animals, which mistake them for food. It takes hundreds of years for plastic to break down, but much less time for paper. Because of this, people think paper bags are the better environmental choice. However, making a paper bag uses four times as much energy as making a plastic bag. The process also produces more greenhouse gases.
In fact, both kinds of bags are bad for the environment. So, take a reusable bag with you when you go shopping.
When you turn off a device (电器), it stops using power.
When we turn off a device, such as television, it goes into standby mode. Devices still use power. This happens because electricity continues to leak (漏) from the device, even when it is turned “off”. To make sure your device is in fact off, remove the plug from its power supply.
Eating local food is good for the environment.
It seems like common sense: eating local food should be better for the environment, because it does not need to be transported long distances and kept cold during transport. Unfortunately, it is not that simple. The production of food uses most of the energy and produces most of the greenhouse gases. In some cases, local produce might have used more energy and produced more greenhouse gases than products grown a long way away.
It’s better to take a shower than a bath.
It depends on how long you spend in the shower and how large your bath is. If you spend more than eight minutes in a shower, you’ll use as much water as in a bath—about 50 liters of water. Therefore, the key is to keep your shower time as short as possible.
Environmental awareness is now part of daily life. But it’s worth checking common ideas and opinions to see what’s really green.
36. What does the writer advise people to use when going shopping?
A. Paper bags. B. Plastic bags. C. Reusable bags. D. cloth bags.
37. Why do devices still use power when they are turned “off”?
A. Because they are broken.
B. Because they are in stand-by mode and electricity leaks.
C. Because the power button is not pressed hard enough.
D. Because they need power to stay connected to the Internet.
38. What can we infer about local food from the passage?
A. It is always more environmentally friendly.
B. It is always more expensive than imported food.
C. It might not be as green as people think in some cases.
D. It tastes better than food from far away.
39. What does the word “leak” most probably mean?
A. To stop suddenly.
B. To escape slowly.
C. To increase quickly.
D. To disappear completely.
40. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. We should stop all activities that are bad for the environment.
B. We should question common “green truths” to understand what is truly green.
C. All traditional environmental ideas are wrong.
D. It is impossible to live a green life.

五、阅读与表达 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
At the Westonaria agricultural park in South Africa, farm workers are busy planting vegetables. But there’s quietness around the park. That’s because most people here are deaf and communicate in sign language. They’re members of the Voiceout Deaf, a farming program started by Matebogo Victoria.
Victoria has hearing problems herself, so she understands the difficulties deaf people face. While studying at the university, she had to take classes with a hearing friend to help her understand and communicate with her teachers.
Victoria used to work for a bank. After she saw a lot of deaf people staying at home and without jobs, she hoped to do something to help. “Communication is the biggest difficulty in the deaf community,” she said. “There are 44 schools for the deaf across South Africa. Many of the deaf either don’t finish school or don’t have enough money to travel far to go to one of the schools.” After careful thought, Victoria left her job and started an agricultural business to help deaf people learn farming skills and get jobs matching their skills.
As part of Voiceout Deaf, farmers-in-training work on three different farms. Most of them use sign language, making communication easy. Although each farm is a learning environment, it’s also a workplace and a business. The farmers get paid for their work, and their crops sell very well.
Sibongile Maake is one of the farm workers. “I’m happy with the work on the farm. I’m working slowly but surely, and I’m learning while making money. I can do things by myself. I am able to pay for things I need,” she said.

【答案】32. B 33. A 34. B 35.

【答案】36. C 37. B 38. C 39. B 40. B
【解析】
【导语】本文指出,一些人们普遍认为的“环保做法”其实并不一定正确,通过几个例子,引导人们重新审视常见的环保观念。
【36题详解】
第4段末尾“So, take a reusable bag with you when you go shopping.”作者建议人们购物时使用可重复使用的袋子。
【37题详解】
第6段“When we turn off a device, such as television, it goes into standby mode. Devices still use power. This happens because electricity continues to leak from the device, even when it is turned ‘off’.”电器关闭后仍用电,是因为它们处于待机模式,存在电力泄漏。
【38题详解】
第8段“In some cases, local produce might have used more energy and produced more greenhouse gases than products grown a long way away.”文中提到,本地食物在某些情况下可能并不比外地食物更环保。
【39题详解】
第6段“electricity continues to leak from the device, even when it is turned ‘off’.”“leak”在这里的意思是电力从电器中“慢慢流失/泄露”,与选项B“To escape slowly”意思一致。
【40题详解】
文章开头提到“some ‘green truths’ have been shown to be only half true, or even completely false”,结尾也强调要检验常见的环保观念。全文主旨是引导人们质疑常见的“环保真相”,理解真正的环保是什么。
