固定搭配put up one's hand表示“举手”,up符合搭配。out向外,on在……

The Dead Sea is located in the Jordan Rift Valley in Asia. It sits at about 416 metres below sea level, making it the ____11____ point on Earth’s land.
What’s interesting is that the Dead Sea isn’t actually a ____12____. It’s a lake with a salt concentration (浓度) of more than 30 percent, which is about ten times saltier than typical seawater. This makes it one of the saltiest ____13____ of water on Earth.
The Dead Sea stays so salty because of its special natural conditions. Each year, it receives very little ____14____, and only a small amount of fresh water flows into it. And the hot weather around the Dead Sea ____15____ the fresh water to evaporate (蒸发) quickly, which makes the salt concentration even higher. So it is also ____16____ as the Salt Sea.
If you were to swim in the Dead Sea, you wouldn’t see any sea life—no plants or animals. The high salt concentration makes it ____17____ to have any sea life there. That’s actually why it’s ____18____ the Dead Sea.
However, don’t let the name or not having any sea life scare you. Even if you fall into the Dead Sea and can’t swim, you won’t ____19____. The high concentration of salt in the Dead Sea allows anyone to ____20____ well, without the need for life buoys. In fact, many people visit the Dead Sea every year on vacation. If you walk along the shore, you’ll likely see many people floating (漂浮) in the water, reading books or newspapers.

上文提到“It sits at about 416 metres below sea level”,低于海平面对应地势最低,lowest“最低的”,符合地理常识。
空后为“It’s a lake with a salt concentration of more than 30 percent”,说明它本质是湖泊而非大海,sea“大海”,符合上下文逻辑。
上文提到“you wouldn’t see any sea life”,高盐环境不适合生物生存,impossible“不可能的”,符合事实逻辑。
下文提到“see many people floating in the water”,float“漂浮”,和后文原句内容相呼应。

Imagine you are in an autonomous vehicle (AV, 自动驾驶车辆) and face this terrible choice: If the car turns left, it will hit an 8-year-old girl. If it turns right, it will hit many walkers. On top of this “moral (道德的) dilemma”, if the car doesn’t turn, you could be in danger. It is difficult to make a decision between two or more choices. What decision would you want the car to make?
When AVs face dangerous situations, should they save people in the car first or walkers? Should they care more about the public good (集体利益) than one person’s safety? These questions have been under discussion for years, but there is no perfect answer.
“A moral dilemma has no clear answer,” Derek Leben said, a professor at the Tepper School of Business, US.
Iyad Rahwan, an MIT scientist studied these questions. He found out that people often think about their own safety first. “People buying these cars, they want cars to protect the passengers themselves. But they want other people’s cars to protect walkers instead.”
AVs bring not only moral dilemmas but also problems with rules. If there is an accident, who should be responsible is not an easy question.
In July 2024, a self-driving taxi by Baidu hit a walker in Wuhan, Hubei, who ran a red light. Baidu worked with the police and took the walker to the hospital. In another accident in Seattle, US. In April 2024, the “driver” should be responsible according to the traffic rules, because he was talking on his phone while in the full self-driving mode
“The situations of different accidents caused by AVs are so complex (复杂的) that it’s hard to make very clear laws about it. We are always waiting for them,” said Ji Xuchong, a researcher from North China University of Technology.
32. Which of the following sentences can we put “dilemma” in?

B. Her biggest ________ was forgetting to turn off the light yesterday.
C. The advice from his teacher brought a positive ________ for his research.

A. How to make safe self-driving cars.
B. Famous accidents of self-driving cars.
C. A study about people’s driving habits.
D. Moral and rule problems of self-driving cars.
34. What might be Ji Xuchong’s opinion in the last paragraph?
A. There should be clearer laws for self-driving car accidents.
B. It is easy to decide who is responsible for the accidents.
C. Self-driving cars should not be used on the road.
D. All accidents are caused by the car companies.

They even fail to manage their study well and spend too much time chatting with friends about celebrities. It is necessary for them to control these negative emotions and actions and get over these small problems.
Good celebrities can greatly inspire teenagers. Many stars work hard, are strict with themselves and never give up their dreams. These good qualities help teenagers make small but meaningful achievements in study and life. They also learn to reduce study pressure and pull together with classmates when doing group projects.
Teenagers should enjoy celebrity worship in the right way. They can talk about celebrities with friends once in a while, but never let it influence their normal life. The true meaning of chasing stars is to learn from celebrities and become a better self. With a clear mind, teenagers can get plenty of positive energy and grow up in a healthy and happy way.

When life feels stressful and things are out of your control, negative thinking often appears. Feelings of sadness, disappointment and self-doubt come along. That’s why such negative thinking needs to be dealt with. However, there are many things you can do when you have negative thinking.
First, try a “No Complaining” challenge. You can decide not to complain for a whole week. If you complain at any time, you have to start counting from Day 1 again. You may be surprised to find how much time you waste on things you cannot change.
Second, stop asking “what if” questions about bad things. Instead, ask yourself, “What if everything works out well?” When you feel worried, use the same energy to think about good results.
Third, follow the 10-Second Rule. When a negative thought comes to your mind, take 10 seconds to decide whether you should care about it. Ask yourself: Is this thought helpful? Can I do anything about it right now? If not, just let it go.
Finally, stop imagining terrible things in your mind. If you always think about the worst situations, you will only expect disappointment. Instead, try to imagine that things will go well.
It is not easy to change your way of thinking. But if you put in time to practice, you can surely make progress. Be patient and kind to yourself!

B. Her biggest ________ was forgetting to turn off the light yesterday.
C. The advice from his teacher brought a positive ________ for his research.
D. The teacher gave us a fun ________ to solve in groups during class.

A. How to make safe self-driving cars.
B. Famous accidents of self-driving cars.
C. A study about people’s driving habits.
