Dear friends,
Last week, we started an activity. What did you see and do during your time with nature? And how did you feel? Please share your stories.
I disliked hiking in the past, but now I enjoy it. My father and I had a hiking trip on MacLehose Trail(麦理浩径) in Hong Kong. The journey was harder than I expected. My legs started burning after just 30 minutes. But as we climbed higher, the amazing views—green hills, golden beaches, and endless ocean - seemed under my feet. There’s an old Chinese saying, “When you climb to the top, all other mountains seem small.” That’s exactly how I felt.
“I feel free and peaceful.” This was my answer to my friend when she asked me how I felt after an afternoon walk. As we walked through the park, I noticed all those fallen leaves with different shapes and colors lying on the ground. I picked some up and made them into a picture. You know what they say, “The best thing in life is free.” That’s so true. By walking, I got good exercise. By collecting these little treasures, I started to pay attention to the small things around me that I used to miss.
During the holiday, my family and I went to Crystal Waterfall. It was amazing! I stood near the falls, hearing the rush of water and feeling the cool mist (水雾).The sound of the water was actually super relaxing. It felt like all my tiredness and worries were being washed away. Justin Horner was driving down a busy highway when his tire (轮胎) blew out. He pulled over and made a sign asking for help.
Three hours later, a truck finally pulled up and out came a family of four. They were Latino (拉丁裔的). Their young daughter acted as a translator between her Spanish-speaking parents and Horner, so that they could work together to fix Horner’s car. It took them about an hour. When they finished, the mother shared a big bottle of water with everyone to drink and wash their hands.
“I thanked them again and again,” Horner recalled. “I tried to give the mother money. I only had a $ 20 bill, and I thought it was the least I should do. And she wouldn’t take it.”
But Horner insisted. Finally, he put the money in her hand and walked away. Then he heard their young daughter call out and ask him if he was hungry. Indeed he was. She came over with a tamale (墨西哥粽子) from their cooler. Horner thanked them once again. Then the little girl got into the truck, and they drove off.
“As they were trying to get into the traffic,” Horner said, “I was opening the tamale and found my money in it.”
Horner immediately ran over to the truck to get the father’s attention. “He rolled down the window,” he said. “He saw me coming and he was just shaking his head. I kept saying, ‘Please, take it!’—I was holding the bill out. Then he put his hand up, with a big smile on his face, and just said, ‘Today you, tomorrow me.’”
The father then said goodbye to Horner, rolled up the window, and drove off. Horner never saw them again.

A long time ago, there lived two woodcutters called Barry and Kent in a village. Every morning, they went out into the forest and cut wood to sell at a nearby market.
One hot day, the woodcutters were eating their lunch under a tree when a beggar (乞丐) came to them.
“My name is Clark, and I’m very ____6____,” said the beggar, as he walked up to the two woodcutters. “Can you spare a little of your lunch for me?”
Barry felt great pity for Clark, and he took some food ____7____ his bag that he kept for later, and wanted to give it to the poor man. But to his ____8____, Kent, who was a kind man too, stopped him from offering food.
Kent said to Clark, “We both work all day long and we only have enough food to get us through the day. But if you wish, I can lend you my ax (斧子) and ____9____ you to cut wood. Then you can sell the wood. And you will have a good chance of buying ____10____ food.”
Clark looked a bit unhappy because he had been so looking forward to the food. ____11____ after some thought, he took Kent’s ax, and then watched carefully as Kent explained how to cut wood. Clark cut wood ____12____ at first, but hours later, he began to cut more quickly.
At the end of the day, the three men walked to the market, carrying the wood that they had cut. Very soon, all of their wood was ____13____.
“Look at this!” Clark said with ____14____. “It’s amazing! I have never had so much money in my life!”
“You have done well. After all, it was your first ____15____,” said Kent, and then he took Clark to a shop in the town and helped him choose an ax.
“Thank you for everything you did for me,” Clark said to Kent and walked away happily.
This story tells us that true kindness lies in teaching people to fish, rather than just give them a fish.

固定搭配take...from...
sold out卖完;left out遗漏、cut out切断、run out耗尽,不能形容木头被售卖。

Back home, I even downloaded (下载) the sounds of waterfalls online. They can help me sleep better!

“perform with sb.”

“be able to do sth.”
“in a...way”是固定短语,意为“以一种……

原文开头描述“Justin Horner was driving... when his tire blew out. He pulled over...Three hours later...”,说明他从爆胎到等待救援度过了一段时间。
原文写道“a truck finally pulled up... they could work together to fix Horner’s car”,他们停下来的目的是帮助他。
原文明确说“I only had a $20 bill, and I thought it was the least I should do.”,他试图给母亲20美元。
didn’t后填动词原形,故填accept或take the money。
