Then he holds the monkey’s hands and encourages them to open the coconut. Later he brings the monkeys to a tree and they pick the coconuts that are ready to eat. Step by step the monkeys become better at their job. With their help, the farmers can do the work more quickly. Sunponn talks about the advantages of using monkeys for this job.
E项“I usually have rice, beef as well as vegetables.”(我通常吃米饭、牛肉还有蔬菜)精准回答问题,同时呼应后文“They are very healthy.”
I often eat an apple or a banana after lunch.”,说明此处是一个一般疑问句,询问她是否会吃水果。D项“Do you usually eat fruit as a treat?”(你通常会吃水果当加餐吗?)
A听完Ella吃餐后水果的习惯后,Ella回应“I don’t eat much for dinner. Just a chicken salad.”,说明此处是A询问晚餐的情况。B项“What about dinner?”(晚餐呢?)

A项“Hardly ever.”(几乎不吃)对应后文“But if I do, I try to choose healthy snacks like yogurt.”(但如果吃的话,我会选酸奶这类健康零食),形成转折关系。

根据原文“I run five kilometers every day.”与“…it doesn’t work at all.”
根据上文减肥无果、心情沮丧“…it doesn’t work at all. I feel upset…”,可知此处寻求解决办法,固定句式What can I do? 选What。

根据上文“I run five kilometers every day.”

根据后文内心自我反思的问句“Do I really need to lose weight?”,可知,ask yourself表示“自问、反思”。

A big welcome to our new baby black rhino, Tau!
Tau was born last month. He weighs 40 kg now. He hasn’t got any horns (角) at the moment. They’re starting to grow.
Black rhinos are big. They’re brown or gray. They aren’t black! They have two horns. They’re the only animals with horns on their noses. They can’t see very well, but they can smell and hear better than many animals.
Black rhinos live in Africa, in woods or near rivers. They eat in the morning and evening. At midday, when it’s hot, they like to lie in water or mud (泥浆).
Every baby rhino is important, because black rhinos are in danger. Hundreds of years ago, there were about 1,000,000 black rhinos in Africa. Now there are about 6,000. Sadly, baby rhinos often die in the wild. Baby rhinos born in zoos are safe. Every baby means a better future for black rhinos.

48. We can learn from the passage that ________.

C
Do you play with your phone before bedtime? You may want to read a book instead. According to a study, looking at screens at night can cause us to sleep poorly.
In the evening, our bodies make melatonin (褪黑素). Melatonin helps us feel sleepy and relaxed. It is an important part of our sleep cycle (周期). Our electronic screens stop that cycle from working well.
Why? Phones, computers and TVs make blue light. Blue light stops our bodies from making melatonin. Even just a little blue light can have an effect (影响). Eight minutes of blue light can keep your brain “awake” for another hour. Even if you fall asleep, you may have lots of dreams. Your brain won’t have a good rest.
It’s even worse if you play an exciting game before bed. Games make our hearts beat faster, so we have a harder time falling asleep. Then, when we fall asleep, we don’t get enough “deep sleep”, which results in poor health.
Use these tips to get a good night’s sleep:
√ Have a relaxing routine every night. Take a warm shower or read a book.
√ Sleep in a dark, quiet room that is not too warm or too cold.
√ Count sheep. It’s the oldest trick, and it can actually work!
√ Don’t eat a big meal or have caffeine (咖啡因). Instead, drink milk.
√ Don’t run around or exercise three hours before bedtime.
52. What can we learn about melatonin from paragraph 2?
A. It helps us fall asleep at night.
B. It makes us feel hungry and tired.
C. Too much of it makes us sleep poorly.
53. How do electronic screens make it hard for us to sleep?
A. They cannot make us feel relaxed.
B. The blue light breaks our sleep cycle.
C. They make more melatonin than our bodies need.
54. How does blue light affect (影响) you?
A. It hurts your eyes.
B. It makes your brain stay awake longer.
C. It makes your heart beat much faster.
55. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Getting enough deep sleep is important.
B. Playing games helps us go to sleep quickly.
C. It’s OK for us to play exciting games before bedtime.
56. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How scientists find the result.
B. Why some people have lots of dreams.
C. How playing with phones leads to poor sleep.
52. A 53. B 54. B 55. A 56. C

Owls are active animals at night. They look for food at night. Most of us humans work in the daytime. We hardly ever see owls, but many of us like these night birds very much. Our love for owls has a long history, and it’s in all cultures. So what is it about owls that makes them so popular?
Some bird scientists believe owls’ popularity lies in their looks. In order to see things clearly at night, owls developed to have large eyes. Unlike human eyes, their eyes are cylindrical So owls cannot roll their eyes. Their heads have to do most of the rolling-around work. It’s also for this reason that owls can turn their heads almost entirely (完全地) around on their necks.
Owls also use sound to look for food. Their ears are lopsided—the left ear is a little higher than the right ear. A noise goes in one ear before it arrives in the other. This is very important because it helps owls tell where a sound is coming from. To make their sense of hearing even better, the owl’s face acts like a satellite dish (圆盘式卫星接收器) for sounds. Their beaks (鸟喙) are very small so that they won’t get in the way.
Owls look so unusual. And they have such amazing abilities, so they became known as mysterious (神秘的) animals. That’s why so many people like them.
Owls are popular because of their ____72____ and ____73____

I’m Sam. I always think my daily life is really boring. Every morning, the alarm clock rings, and I have to get up. Then I wash my face, brush my teeth, and have breakfast in a hurry. After that, I go to school. It seems that every day is just the same, and I can never find anything exciting and interesting.
One day, during a science class, our teacher Mr. Smith asks us to plant a small bean in a pot (花盆). He says we need to take care of it every day and watch how it grows. At first, I don’t think much of it. But as days pass, I start to notice the tiny sprout (嫩芽) coming through the soil (土壤). I am amazed! I water it carefully, make sure it gets enough sunlight, and watch it grow taller and stronger day by day.
That small act changes my opinion of my life. Now, I try to find little things to make each day special. At home, I help my mom cook dinner. At school, I join a reading club. I share interesting ideas with my club members, and we learn from each other.
I know I have lots of chances to do meaningful things every day. Taking care of a plant, helping others or having new hobbies—these small acts can bring us joy and make our days better.
