① At first sight, Anne of Green Gables may look like a book only for children, especially with its cute cover and short introduction on the back. It was first published in 1904 by Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery. Even after so many years, this classic novel still touches readers today, especially in a time when we often forget to enjoy the present.
② The story is about Anne Shirley, a lively and talkative 11-year-old orphan (孤儿). She is mistakenly sent to live with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a kind brother and sister. They had planned to adopt a boy to help with the farm work in the small town of Avonlea. The novel tells Anne’s adventures: she slowly finds her place in the Cuthbert family, faces challenges at school, and finally wins over the local people with her cheerful attitude.
③ From this warm story, I have learned many important lessons. The most important one is to be yourself. Why do we often pretend to be someone else just to look better? The book reminds us that everyone is not the same, and the first step to happiness is to accept who you are. Anne is a lively and growing character. She has many different sides, just like a rainbow, and each side is beautiful in its own way. This is what makes her truly distinctive and interesting.
④ Another great lesson is to enjoy the small things around us. Anne’s deep love for life teaches me to value the simple joys we often ignore. My favorite sentence from Chapter 19 is: “The nicest days are not those with exciting or wonderful things, but those with simple little pleasures coming one after another gently.” This sentence perfectly shows the spirit of the book.
⑤ In short, Anne has left a deep impression on me. This classic story shows the importance of loving yourself and being thankful. With its warm and encouraging message, it is a wonderful book for readers of all ages who want a happy and meaningful reading experience.
6. What do we know about Anne of Green Gables from the first paragraph?
A. It was published recently and became popular quickly.
B. It is an old book that still interests people today.
C. It tells the true story of the author’s childhood.
D. It was written mainly to describe children’s daily life.
7. The underlined word “distinctive” in Paragraph 3 probably means ______.
A. ordinary B. creative C. silent D. special
8. Which saying best matches the sentence from Chapter 19?
A. Time and tide wait for no man. B. Happiness lies in the small moments.
C. Fortune favors the brave and kind. D. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.
9. What is the best structure of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1 ②=Paragraph 2)
A. B. C. D.
10. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Anne of Green Gables: A Window into History
B. Why We Should Always Pretend to Be Better
C. Life Lessons from Anne: Be Yourself, Enjoy Life
D. Anne Shirley: The Story of a Lonely Orphan
C
Slides are simple but always fun. All you need to do is to climb up to the top and slide down. But did you know that there is science behind this simple playground equipment? In fact, every time you play on a slide, you are experiencing some of the most basic laws of physics without even realizing it. Let’s take a closer look at what really happens from the top to the bottom.
①You climb up the slide and sit down.
You are ready to go. Are you sliding down? No, not yet. Things stay still unless something makes them move. This is Newton’s first law of motion, also called the law of inertia. Just like a book on a table won’t move unless you push it, you won’t start sliding until a force acts on you. So you have to give yourself a push to start the journey down. That small push overcomes inertia and gets you moving. Once you begin sliding, gravity takes over and pulls you downward.
②Now you are sliding down.
Do you feel you are slowing down a bit? When two things rub against each other, they cause friction. The surface of the slide and your clothes create this friction, which acts against your motion. Without friction, you would slide down faster and faster all the way to the bottom. Think about sliding on a smooth, wet surface versus a rough, dry one—the smoother the surface, the less friction and the faster you go. Friction helps control your speed and keeps the slide safe and fun.
③At the bottom of the slide, you come to a full stop.
Your feet touch the ground and add extra friction. Newton’s first law also says that moving things keep moving unless something makes them stop. So, if you do not use your feet to slow yourself down, you would continue moving forward and fly off the slide! This is similar to wearing a seatbelt in a car—when the car stops suddenly, your body wants to keep moving forward unless restrained.
Isaac Newton (牛顿) said what goes up must come down. He was talking about gravity, the invisible force that pulls everything toward the Earth. Slides work because of gravity (重力)—it’s what pulls you down once you start. But that is not all. The whole experience is a perfect little lesson in physics, showing how forces like inertia (惯性), friction (摩擦), gravity work together in everyday play. So next time you slide down, remember—you’re not just having fun, you’re also a scientist in action!
11. According to the passage, why don’t you start sliding down it at once when you sit at the top of the slide?
A. Because gravity doesn’t work at the top.
B. Because you need to overcome inertia first by giving yourself a push.
C. Because the surface is not smooth enough to slide.
D. Because you are too heavy to move.
12. Which picture explains why you slow down a bit when sliding down?
A. B. C. D.
13. What stops you at the bottom of the slide according to the passage?
A. The extra friction from the ground. B. The loss of gravity.
C. The power of inertia. D. The smooth surface.
14. Which is the correct order when you slide down?
①Gravity pulls you down. ②You give a small push.
③Friction slows you down. ④You stop at the bottom.
A. ①→②→③→④ B. ②→③→①→④
C. ②→①→③→④ D. ③→②→①→④
15. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To explain why playing on slides is so much fun for children.
B. To describe the step-by-step process of how to use a slide safely.
C. To introduce Isaac Newton and his most important law of motion.
D. To show how basic physics laws work in everyday play like sliding.

Nanchong, a city in Sichuan, is famous as one of China’s “Silk Capitals” with a silk culture lasting for centuries. To understand why silk is so important to it, we need to look back at the close connection between this city and the beautiful material that has shaped its development.
Local farmers raise silkworms with great care, spending hours every day feeding them fresh morning-picked mulberry leaves (桑叶) that can ensure the silkworms’ healthy growth and high-quality cocoons (蚕茧). When the silkworms form cocoons after a month’s growth, workers who have trained for years unwind the silk threads by hand—a skill full of warm feelings of inheriting (延续) traditional culture passed down in local families.
Nanchong’s silk industry has been a great success in producing high-quality silk since ancient times. The silk produced here is very valuable, not only for its soft texture and excellent quality but also for its long history carrying the city’s memories. Liuhe Silk Factory, built in 1912 with old wooden machines, once helped the country by trading silk for medicine and weapons during the War of Resistance, making locals take great pride in their hometown’s silk culture.
Visitors to Nanchong, whether from home or abroad, can choose different ways to experience silk culture, like watching skilled workers in the old factory or visiting the modern silk museum to see how traditional skills live on with modern technology. No matter which way they choose, they will leave with a deeper understanding of why silk matters so much to this city.

【答案】6. B 7. D 8. B 9. C 10.

【答案】11. B 12. C 13. A 14. C 15. D

【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了滑梯背后的科学原理,介绍了在滑滑梯过程中涉及的惯性、摩擦力、重力等基本物理定律,展现了这些定律在日常玩耍中的作用。
【11题详解】
第二段提到:“Just like a book on a table won’t move unless you push it, you won’t start sliding until a force acts on you. So you have to give yourself a push to start the journey down. That small push overcomes inertia and gets you moving.”,说明坐在滑梯顶部不会立刻滑下是因为需要先给自己一个推力克服惯性。
【12题详解】
第三段提到:“When two things rub against each other, they cause friction. The surface of the slide and your clothes create this friction, which acts against your motion. Without friction, you would slide down faster and faster all the way to the bottom.”,说明滑下时减速是因为滑梯表面和衣服之间的摩擦力,可知正确图片应标注friction并显示其阻碍运动的方向。
【13题详解】
第四段提到:“Your feet touch the ground and add extra friction. Newton’s first law also says that moving things keep moving unless something makes them stop. So, if you do not use your feet to slow yourself down, you would continue moving forward and fly off the slide!”,说明在滑梯底部停下来是因为脚触地产生的额外摩擦力。
【14题详解】
第二段提到:“So you have to give yourself a push to start the journey down. That small push overcomes inertia and gets you moving. Once you begin sliding, gravity takes over and pulls you downward.”,先给自己一个推力,然后重力使你下滑;第三段提到:“The surface of the slide and your clothes create this friction, which acts against your motion.”,下滑过程中摩擦力使你减速;第四段提到:“At the bottom of the slide, you come to a full stop.”,最后在滑梯底部停下。所以正确顺序是②→①→③→④。
【15题详解】
第一段提到:“In fact, every time you play on a slide, you are experiencing some of the most basic laws of physics without even realizing it. Let’s take a closer look at what really happens from the top to the bottom.”,以及最后一段提到:“The whole experience is a perfect little lesson in physics, showing how forces like inertia (惯性), friction (摩擦), gravity work together in everyday play.”,说明文章主要目的是展示基本物理定律在日常玩耍如滑滑梯中是如何起作用的。

Dear Chris,
Thanks for your letter! You asked about our spring and autumn vacations—well, let me tell you about mine.
Last autumn, I visited Beijing with my family. We explored the Palace Museum, marveling at its grand architecture, and savored Peking roast duck, a culinary delight that left me craving more. The blend of history and flavor made the trip unforgettable, filling me with pride for China’s rich heritage.
This spring, I plan to travel to Hangzhou. I’ll cruise the West Lake, wander through tea plantations, and sip Longjing tea, seeking tranquility in nature’s embrace. These vacations are vital—they refresh our minds, deepen cultural understanding, and reconnect us with our roots, fueling motivation for future studies.
