Lots of new and amazing things are going on in China’s Tiangong Space Station. Let’s read four interesting stories about it.
a
Shenzhou-19 astronauts did China’s first fruit fly experiment in the Tiangong Space Station. Scientists choose fruit flies because they share similar genes (基因) with humans. They grow fast, so scientists can get clear study results in a short time. The experiment helps learn how space influences living things. It helps people know more about long-term space life for humans.
b
China’s space station has a new hot-air oven. Astronauts can now cook delicious food like chicken wings. In the past, space food was only ready-to-eat. The oven uses special technology to deal with smoke and oil. It keeps the space station safe and clean. With over 190 kinds of food, astronauts have healthy and tasty meals in space.
c
Special mice went to the Tiangong Space Station. It was China’s first space experiment on small mammals (哺乳动物). At first, there were 300 mice. After some strict tests, only 48 mice were kept. Then they took the final test. At last, two male mice and two female mice were chosen. Astronauts studied how space affected their bodies and genes. The study helped keep astronauts safe during long space trips.
d
Astronauts from Shenzhou-19 tested a new robot that can check pipes (管道) in the Chinese space station for the first time in the world. The space station has many pipes, but checking them is difficult and dangerous for astronauts. The smart robot can change its body size to go through different pipes. It is safe and can find problems easily. This great success shows China’s fast development in space technology.
( ) 51. Why do scientists choose fruit flies for the experiment?
A. They can live long in space.
B. They are similar to humans in genes.
C. They help people know more about space.
( ) 52. What can astronauts do with the hot-air oven?
A. Deal with smoke and oil. B. Cook delicious food. C. Enjoy ready-to-eat meals.
( ) 53. How did the scientists choose the mice for the space experiments?
A. Picked 4 from 300 directly. B. Kept 48 first, then chose 4. C. Chose males first, then females.
( ) 54. According to passage d, what is difficult and dangerous for astronauts?
A. Checking the pipes. B. Testing the pipe robots. C. Going through different pipes.
( ) 55. What do the four passages mainly talk about?
A. China’s future space plans.
B. The importance of space technology.
C. Chinese achievements in space technology.

Rainforests are home to many kinds of plants, birds and animals. Can you believe that a small group of bushes in the Amazon may have more types of ants than all of Britain? About 480 kinds of trees can be found in just 10,000 square meters of rainforest.
Rainforests are the “lungs of the Earth”. They breathe in CO2 and breathe out O2 for all living things. They have their own ways to stay alive — tall trees form a top layer of leaves and branches, protecting themselves, small plants and animals from heavy rain, strong heat and strong winds.
Surprisingly, the trees grow in a special way. Although their leaves and branches are close to each other, they never really touch those of other trees. Scientists think this can help stop tree illnesses from spreading and make it difficult for leaf-eating insects to live. To live in the forest, animals have to climb, jump or fly across these spaces.
Different from what we see in films, the ground of the rainforest is not full of thick leaves and bushes. It is quite clear. Dead leaves turn into food for trees and other living things there.
Rainforests can make 75% of their own rain. Every year, the rain is usually about 2032 mm, and in some places, it can be as much as 10922 mm. Such heavy rain can make small rivers rise about 3 to 6 meters in only two hours. The wet air in rainforests also helps make rain clouds for other countries that need rain.
( ) 56. Why are rainforests called the “lungs of the Earth”?
A. Because they have many tall trees.
B. Because they give homes to many animals.
C. Because they take in CO2 and make O2 for the world.
( ) 57. How does the top layer of tall trees help the rainforest?
A. It stops trees from touching each other.
B. It protects living things there from bad weather.
C. It provides enough living space for leaf-eating insects.
( ) 58. Why don’t the branches and leaves of different trees touch each other?
A. To help animals jump across the spaces.
B. To make leaf-eating insects live more easily.
C. To help stop tree illnesses and harmful insects.
( ) 59. What can we learn about rainforests in the last paragraph?
A. They need much rain from other places.
B. The wet air from them helps other countries.
C. Heavy rain in rainforests is bad for small rivers.
( ) 60. Which part of the newspaper is this text taken from?
A. Nature. B. Life. C. Science.

Many people around the world share the same trouble: a poor sense of direction. Sue from the U.K. can hardly travel 61 her navigation (导航) app, but she still often ends up going in the wrong direction. Sally from Australia once had great difficulty using paper maps — she had to turn them upside down when 62 south. So giving directions at high speed was nearly 63 . Her husband would always do the 64 of what she said, and he was never wrong. Khamboj from India can’t tell east from west without a compass, and Ellen Chiang from the U.S.A. still misses turns or turns too early even with GPS, making driving a(n) 65 experience. Like them, many feel helpless when they get lost.
However, U.S. psychologist Margaret Tarampi says our sense of direction isn’t fixed at birth — it can 66 . The first step is to pay more attention to our environment. Natural landmarks, such as a mountain that marks the north or the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, are great compasses.
While over-depending on GPS can harm our navigational skills, Tarampi doesn’t suggest giving it up. Instead of 67 following the road signs, we should learn to match the map with real landmarks and look up from our screens more often. Trying different ways to the same place also allows us 68 maps in our mind and connect different locations.
We can practice these skills in our daily lives, learn to use natural landmarks, and avoid over-depending on GPS. 69 , we should “get out, get lost and go exploring.” The best way to improve our sense of direction is through practice. Getting lost isn’t a mistake; it’s just another way to find 70 and learn to navigate the world better.

Recently, a high school Chinese teacher raised an interesting question for her students: “If you had to pick one word to prove you are not an AI, what would it be?” 71
The students came up with plenty of warm and meaningful answers. A student chose the word “Mom”, for AI has no family, no mother, and can never experience the warm family bonds that humans own. Another student selected “Worry”. 72 Some students picked “Slow” or “Clumsy”, which shows that humans are willing to slow down to enjoy beautiful moments — like a beautiful sunset or gentle sunlight — even if this act seems inefficient to machines.
Words including “Regret”, “Pain” and “Love” were also widely chosen by the students. 73 AI is able to learn knowledge and finish tasks quickly, yet it can never truly feel joy or sadness. It cannot cry when getting hurt, nor can it laugh from the bottom of its heart.
74 Instead, all these answers show one thing: human warmth is the most important. Human beings have imperfections, rich and deep emotions, as well as special emotional bonds with people around us. These are the valuable parts of being human that no machine can ever copy. 75 Every tiny true feeling and every truthful relationship keeps us from being cold, emotionless machines, and this is the heart of being a real person.
A. These feelings are also expressed by AI.
B. There is no standard correct answer to this question.
C. These are all real feelings that come from life experiences.
D. They make us alive, special and truly human in this modern world.
E. It made everyone think about what makes humans special in the AI age.
F. Because AI will never understand nervous feeling like waiting for exam results.

In the UK, thousands of old and unwanted musical instruments are thrown away every year. Most of them are sent to landfills, which causes serious environmental pollution and a huge waste of resources. Many instruments are still working well, but people throw them away simply because they are no longer needed. Repairing these instruments requires special skills, and many people cannot afford to learn such skills, so few people want to fix them. However, some warm-hearted projects are trying to change this situation and save these instruments.
It is reported that more than 10,000 musical instruments are thrown away in Britain every year. Luckily, more organizations have realized the problem and started to take action. They collect old instruments from families, schools and communities, and then ask skilled workers to repair and clean them. Some groups work hard to reduce musical waste and help reuse old instruments. The Olympias Music Foundation provides free high-quality music lessons for children from poor families. It also started the Recycled Orchestra Project, which collects broken instruments, repairs them carefully and passes them on to young music lovers.
Since repairing instruments requires professional skills, these skills don’t come cheap. As a solution, experienced instrument makers are invited to teach music teachers. With special repair tools and teaching videos, teachers can now deal with some simple problems by themselves. This helps save more instruments from being thrown away and also cuts down the cost of repair.
These meaningful activities not only protect the environment by reducing waste but also help more teenagers develop an interest in music. Many students who had no chance to touch instruments before can now learn and play music happily. Even though many schools have limited budgets for art programs, these projects offer great support for music education.
Today, more and more old instruments are returning to life and making beautiful sounds again. They show us that nothing is useless if we treat it with care, and that music can light up the life of every child who loves it.
Problems
●Old instruments still in 76 are thrown away.
●This causes pollution and a waste of resources.
●Few people repair them due to the 77 of learning skills.
Solutions
●Organizations collect and repair old instruments.
●Repaired instruments are given to poor students.
●Experts teach teachers basic 78 to save instruments.
Advantages
●Environmental: reduce waste and pollution.
● 79 : support school music programs.
●Personal: help develop music interest
Conclusion
●With care, old instruments can get 80 and music lights up children's lives.

In a village near a desert lived a young and successful businessman, named James. Although he had a lot, he often felt unhappy due to the endless challenges he faced.
One day, a wise old man came to the village with 100 camels. It’s said he could solve any problem. James went to see him and said, “I’m very unhappy with my life. I always have business worries, family troubles and health problems. Please tell me how to make them disappear.”
The old man smiled and said, “I’ll give you an answer tomorrow morning. But first, can you do a small thing for me?” James agreed. The old man asked him to take care of the 100 camels for the night, making sure that they all sat down and rested before he could go to sleep.
The next morning, the old man asked James how his night went. James said sadly, “I didn’t sleep at all. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get all the camels to sit together. Even if I managed to get some camels to sit on one side, a few others would stand on the other side.”
“That’s true. As I noticed last night, some camels sat down on their own, while others required some effort, and yet many camels did not sit even after much effort. If you had come back later, you would have seen that some of the camels, even though they didn’t sit at first, finally sat down on their own,” the old man said.
James nodded.
The old man continued, “Problems are just like camels — some problems get solved by themselves, some get solved when you put in some effort, and some do not get solved even after you have tried your best. Leave such problems to time. At the right time, these problems themselves will come to an end.”
James felt a sense of understanding. It completely changed the way he saw life’s challenges.
