B That morning, after taking our oldest child to kindergarten, I went back home, let our two younger kids play, and worked on my medical report. It was wonderful, but it hit me that my career in hospital wasn’t making a difference in anyone’s life. I needed something that would stretch my limits and push me to grow. My career enabled me to work from home and become a foster (领养) mother, providing safety for a child who needed it desperately. Monday morning, I grabbed the phone and rang the number I’d found via Google for the nearest Department of Children’s Services. The man on the other end was receptive to my questions and explained the next step of training, involving eight weeks of classes designed to prepare and educate foster parents. We continued through all the classes, the home visits, background checks, and seemingly endless steps. Five months after our approval, a middle-of-the-night phone call woke me. I aroused my husband and we hurried to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, where our foster placement awaited us in the ER, ill and malnourished. It didn’t take long for us to realize the full depth of her suffering. Six months later, her half-brother came to us by our request. We now had five children under our care. On August 12, 2016, our family of seven walked into a small courtroom. The children’s lawyer and social worker were there. With just a few words, our adoption was finalized. These two amazing children weren’t going home, because they were already home. We are their forever family and they are our forever children. We may not be able to change the entire world, but we have changed the world entirely for our new children. 24. How did the author feel about her hospital work? A. Unusually demanding B. She picked the child up from a kindergarten. D. The child’s half-brother introduced them. 27. Why did the author appear at the courtroom? A. To make the adoption officially legal. B. To receive another adopted child. C. To put the adopted kids elsewhere. D. To begin the kids’ adoption in her home. C In the past, when driving to a cinema was necessary for entertainment, it was clear how one’s actions could affect the environment. After all, you were jumping into your car, driving across town, coughing out emissions (产生排放) and using gas all the way. But now that we’re used to staying at home and streaming movies, we might get a little proud. After all, we’re just picking up our phones and maybe turning on the TV. You’re welcome. Mother Nature. The Shift Project, which is based in France, recently published a report that says, “Not so fast.” According to “Climate Crisis: The Unsustainable Use of Online Video”, digital technologies are responsible for 4% of greenhouse gas emissions, and that energy use is increasing by 9% a year. Watching a half-hour show would cause 1.6 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions. That’s like driving 6.28 kilometers. And in the European Union, the Eureka project found that data centers (where videos are stored) there used 25% more energy in 2017 compared to just three years earlier, reports the BBC. Streaming is only predicted to grow further as we become fonder of our digital devices (设备) and the chance to access entertainment whenever and wherever we want is rising. Online video use is expected to increase by four times from 2017 to 2022 and account for 80% of all Internet traffic by 2022. By then, about 60% of the world’s population will be online. Although you probably won’t quit streaming services, experts say there are still ways to help reduce the impact of your online activity. For example, according to Lutz Stobbe, a researcher from the Fraunhofer Institute in Berlin, we have no need to upload 25 pictures of the same thing to the cloud because it consumes energy every time. If instead you delete a few things here and there, you can save energy. Moreover, it’s also a good idea to stream over Wi-Fi, watch on the smallest screen you can, and turn off your Wi-Fi in your home if you’re not using your devices. 28. What topic is the first paragraph intended to lead in? A. The environmental impacts of streaming services. B. The improvements on environmental awareness. C. The change in the way people seek entertainment. D. The impact of driving private cars on the environment. 29. What does Para. 2 imply about digital tech’s environmental effect? A. Their energy use has been declining in recent years. B. Watching a half-hour show is worse than driving 6 km. C. Their contribution to emissions is growing rapidly. D. Data centers in the EU used less energy in 2017. 30. What can we infer about the use of streaming services? A. Its environmental effects are worsening. B. It is being reduced to protect the planet. C. It is easily available to almost everyone. D. Its side effects have drawn global attention. 31. Which of the following is the most environmentally-friendly? A. Playing online games over mobile networks. B. Downloading music on a personal computer. C. Uploading a lot of images of the same thing. D. Watching downloaded movies on a mobile phone. D Approximately 3.66 million years ago, an individual belonging to an unknown hominid (原始人类) species walked across a field of wet volcanic ash in what is today East Africa, leaving several footprints behind. A new study suggests that the five ancient footprints — largely ignored since they were partly uncovered in 1976 at Tanzania’s Laetoli site — show evidence of a hominid walking upright. Earlier researchers believed the marks were difficult to classify and could have been produced by a young bear standing up and taking a few steps. But the latest analysis refutes that suggestion. DeSilva, together with McNutt and their colleagues, completely dug out and cleaned the five Laetoli footprints in June 2019. Then they measured, photographed and 3D scanned the ancient tracks. McNutt’s group focused on two footprints that were particularly well-preserved. The Laetoli individual’s foot shape, size, and walking style differed in several ways from those of other hominids at the same site. The prints also didn’t match those from modern black bears and modern chimps (黑猩猩) walking upright. According to researchers, the Laetoli individual’s foot was wider and more chimplike than a human’s. Its big toe stuck out slightly from the second toe (脚趾), but not as much as in chimps. On one step, the Laetoli individual’s left leg crossed in front of the right leg, leaving a left footprint directly in front of the previous track. People may cross-step (交叉迈步) in this way when trying to regain balance. Bears and chimps stand wide due to their bone structure, which stops them from walking like the Laetoli individual and from cross-stepping, scientists say. Given that only two of the ancient footprints are complete enough to analyze thoroughly, the possibility that a chimp other than a hominid made the Laetoli footprints can’t be ruled out, says William Harcourt Smith, a scientist at Lehman College. But evidence of cross-stepping is enough to prove that a hominid made the tracks, he says. 32. What does the underlined word “refutes” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. supports. B. contradicts. C. ignores. D. criticizes. 33. Why do researchers think the footprints differ from those of bears or chimps? A. They are not as similar to chimps. B. They have toes sticking out. C. They possess features of cross-stepping. D. They show relatively wide standing. 34. What does William think of the new research finding? A. It’s confusing. B. It’s challenging. C. It’s persuasive. D. It’s doubtful. 35. What is the purpose of the text? A. To introduce a new discovery. B. To describe a major event. C. To introduce an unknown species. D. To compare different hominid species. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读短文,从短文后选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。有两项为多余选项。 Joseph Conrad, a famous English novelist, described his purpose as a writer in these words: “to make you hear, to make you feel, and above all, to make you see.” That, and no more, is everything. “ 36 Often it leaves a single sharp impression to be turned over and over in the mind. After finishing the story, the reader should have something to think about: the humor of life, its ironies, or the unpredictability of human behavior. 37 The first and most obvious level is conveyed through the plot. Plot refers to the sequence of events, to the actions of the characters and the situations in which they are involved. To explain the plot, then, is to tell what happened in the story and to whom. In some short stories, plot is the dominating element. In other short stories, plot plays a very minor role. In Hemingway’s story, The Old Man and the Sea, however, we must approach the content on another level. 38 To understand and appreciate the story, the reader must be able to identify its general topic or theme. The next step is to identify the device by which the author comments on this theme. 39 Readers cannot appreciate a short story fully unless they react not only to what has been said but also to how it has been said. 40 Style grows out of the writer’s own personality and can be seen in the choice of words and phrases, the arrangement of sentences, the rhythm and tone. Structure refers to the architecture of the story, the way in which the details are selected and arranged to produce the desired effect. A. In order to read a short story with full understanding, the reader must approach the content on two levels. B. The impact of the story comes from the insight it gives us into the needs and desires of youth and old age. C. Finally, the reader should be able to explain the insights which the author has given into the theme. D. The impact on the reader comes from the sudden and unexpected response. E. A good short story tries to give the reader a sense of the actual experience. F. In complex stories, careful readers may not always agree with the author. G. They must look for style and structure. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 It was a burning summer afternoon when I first laid eyes on Bella, a skinny dog wandering in the alley behind my house. It was the day of the annual art exhibition, and we had promised to meet at exactly 3:00 p. m. to get the best seats. The clock was ticking, and the sky gradually turned dark. Thirty minutes had passed, but Lily was still nowhere to be seen. I stood under a big tree, checking my phone repeatedly. No messages, no calls. Anger slowly rose in my chest. “She must have forgotten completely,” I muttered to myself, feeling stupid for being so early. I decided that even if she showed up, I would never speak to her. Just as I was about to leave, a familiar figure ran towards me. It was Lily, out of breath, with a big smile on her face. “Sorry, sorry!” she said, gasping for air. “I tried to get here as fast as I could.” Looking at her messy hair and dirty shoes, I thought she was just making excuses. Without a word, I rolled my eyes and walked past her towards the exhibition hall. Lily didn’t argue or explain more but followed me silently. I could feel her eyes on my back, but I kept my face cold, determined to teach her a lesson. When we finally arrived, the lights were on. We walked to our usual spot, only to find that our seats were still empty. However, beside the seats, there was a wrapped gift box and a note written in Lily’s neat handwriting: “For my dearest friend, I prepared it as an anniversary gift just for you. Thank you for being my best friend for ten years. I hope you like it.” Paragraph 1: My anger melted away the moment I read the note and saw the gift. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Lily sat down beside me, looking nervous and waiting for my reaction. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025-2026铜山区高二第二学期期中考试 英 语 答 案 第一部分 听力(共20小题,每小题1.5分,满分30分) 1-5. This suit is made of thousands of fine jade pieces connected by delicate gold threads, in the shape of a human body. It was used to bury nobles in ancient times, who believe it can preserve their bodies from decay, symbolizing their high status. What makes it stand out is that its making required superb craft skills, showing the great wisdom of ancient Chinese craftsmen and attracting visitors throughout the world. I’m sure this amazing cultural relic will leave you a deep impression! I hope you have a wonderful and memorable trip! Yours, Li Hua 参考范文2: Dear Peter, Glad to hear you’re visiting Xuzhou Museum! I’d like to recommend the Jade Burial Suit with Gold Threads from the Han Dynasty to you. Shaped like a complete human figure, the suit is crafted from thousands of well-polished jade pieces, which are carefully linked by delicate gold threads. As a rare burial object, it once represented the supreme status of its owner in ancient times. What makes it shine is its superb craftsmanship, perfectly reflecting the wisdom of the Han artisans. This precious relic is a true treasure, and you’ll surely be fascinated by it! Yours, Li Hua 第二节 读后续写(满分25分) Para1:My anger melted away the moment I read the note and saw the gift. I gently unwrapped the package, revealing a delicate hand-painted fan with my favorite cherry blossom pattern. The bright colors and careful details made my heart soften. Glancing at Lily, I noticed her left knee was scraped and dirty, her coat torn. Realizing she must have fallen while rushing to make the gift, I was struck by a wave of remorse. How could I have judged her so harshly without knowing the truth? Para2:Lily sat down beside me, looking nervous and waiting for my reaction. Taking her hand, I smiled and apologized sincerely for my cold attitude. She sighed in relief and explained that she had spent the whole afternoon making the fan, but then got caught in a sudden rainstorm on the way. At that moment, the beautiful fan felt warmer than any gift before. This incident taught me a precious lesson: never jump to conclusions before you truly understand someone else’s story. 听 力 原 文 Text 1 音乐小馆 W: That bar in town plays live music. ①I listened to jazz all night long yesterday. It was enjoyable! M: Blues is my favorite, but I love jazz too! (1) Shall we go together tonight? W: Well, it’s soul music tonight, and I’m not a fan of it. ①本句中night long之间存在“不完全爆破”现象:night最后一个音为爆破音/t/,long第一个音为舌边音/l/,两者遇到一起,前面的爆破音只做部分爆破,立即过渡到后面的舌边音上去。 Text 2 调皮的幼犬 W: Oh, no. I just gave Riley a bath, but his fur got dirty again after playing outside. M: He’s so playful. He came rushing toward me this morning and nearly knocked me over while I was talking to our neighbor. W: He’s just one year old! (2) Text 3 数学考试 W: How was the math test? M: I only had two hours, so I was concentrating the entire time! My arm was hurting by the end! But I managed to finish all the questions just in time. (3) Text 4 智能家电的弊端 M: Smart tech sometimes seems annoying. Why would I want to pay so much for a fridge that listens in to my conversations? (4) W: I know what you mean. My robot floor cleaner keeps eating my socks! Text 5 裙子的颜色 M: Wow, I love the dress! W: Thanks! The color is a bit of a happy accident. ②First it was hot pink, which made my face look like a tomato! So, I experimented with some blue. ③It’s pretty unique, (↘) right? (↗) (5) ②本句中hot pink之间存在“失去爆破”现象:hot最后一个音为爆破音/t/,pink第一个音为爆破音/p/,两者遇到一起,前面的爆破音做出发音的准备,但并不发音。 ③本句是附加疑问句,表示询问,陈述部分读降调,疑问部分读升调。 Text 6 背痛就诊 W: Hi, my friend recommended me to come here. He said you are an expert in back pain. M: Where exactly does it hurt? W: I have pain all over my upper back and shoulders, and sometimes it spreads down to the lower part of my back. (6) M: How about the middle of your back? (6) W: Not that I’ve noticed, but it was painful when I was younger. (6) I worked in a factory and used to lift heavy objects. So I am doing a desk job now. M: Okay. I’ll give you some medicine to relieve your pain, but more importantly, you need to do some regular exercise and avoid sitting for long hours. (7) Text 7 赛马争议 (第8题为推断题) M: Michael asked me to watch the horse racing event this weekend! It’s going to be exciting for sure. W: Well, you’re old enough to make your own decision now, and I’m fine with you spending time with your classmates. But I feel sorry for racing horses. (9) M: Why? (9) Michael says the horses are well cared for. W: I’m sure they are while they are fit and healthy, but the horses are often hit with sticks to make them go faster. If they break a leg, it’s cheaper to give up on them for their owners instead of looking after them. (9) M: I didn’t know that. I think I’ll say no to Michael, then… (10) W: How about visiting your grandpa in the countryside? M: Great. We can have a picnic and go hiking in the forest there. (12) It was very embarrassing because when I went through the security area, the guard asked me to open my bag. When he saw three large bottles, he told me to throw them away! M: So, the bottles can’t be too big? W: That’s right. The limit on each bottle is 100 ml. Each of my three bottles was 150 ml over that! (12) M: What about if I flew from a different airport? Are the rules the same there? W: I’m not sure about other airports around the world. M: Well, I guess I’d better start packing these liquids! Three months of sleeping in a tent wasn’t easy! W: I bet you’re so glad to be back in your own bed now. Hey, hold on, I thought jaguars only lived in the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. M: They are actually found in 18 countries altogether. Our main job was to identify as many jaguars as we could to see if numbers were rising or falling. (15) Anyway, what have you been up to? W: I haven’t been on an exciting wildlife adventure like you, but it’s also meaningful. I spent the past few months helping at a local community school. (16) We arranged activities like storytelling, creative writing, and team games to bring the kids together and make them feel supported and joyful. Text 10 新闻播报 (第17题为推断题) A girl in first grade has been celebrated at her school. (18) Miya Bentley, who was just seven, phoned 999 after her mother, Rachel Lang, had a sudden fall at home. Rachel, who suffers from a brain condition, was lying on the floor when her daughter called the emergency number, asking, “Can you help my mom?” She was also able to give her mother’s name and address to ensure the police and ambulance could arrive quickly. (18) Reporters later learned that Miya had similar training just a week before the accident, which showed how important it is to know what to do in emergencies. As for the weather, this morning will start brightly across most of the country. Then showers will move in an easterly direction over northern areas from midday. (19) The south will remain cloudless and dry, making it a great day for the beach. But strong winds are expected by evening. Temperatures range from 18 °C in the south to 10 ℃ in the north. However, it will go as low as -2 °C in high areas where there is also a chance of snow. (20) That’s all we have for now.
