On March 24, 2026, we received very sad news. Mr. Zhang Xuefeng, a well-known educator, passed away suddenly. According to the report, he felt unwell after running at his office. He was sent to hospital at once, but doctors could not save him. He died because of sudden cardiac death (SCD—心源性猝死). This sad event tells us that health is the most important thing in our lives.
What is sudden cardiac death? Our heart works like a pump (泵). It sends blood with oxygen (氧气) to our brain and body every second. When SCD happens, the heart stops working normally. It may beat too fast, too irregularly, or just stop beating. Then the brain cannot get enough oxygen. That is why SCD is so dangerous and happens very quickly.
Many people think only old people have heart problems, but this is not true. Even young people can face heart risks. Unhealthy habits like staying up late, eating too much junk food, and exercising too hard are the main causes. For us students, sports are good, but over-exercise is harmful. When you play sports, watch your body signals. If you feel tired, dizzy (头晕), or have chest pain, stop right away. Never push yourself too hard.
To protect our hearts, we need to follow healthy habits. First, sleep 8 to 10 hours every night. Enough sleep gives your heart time to rest. Second, warm up before exercise and cool down slowly after. Third, drink enough water and eat healthy food. Fourth, if you feel uncomfortable during exercise or study, tell your teachers or parents immediately. Let’s take good care of our hearts and grow up healthily.
24. What caused Mr. Zhang Xuefeng’s death?
A. Too much running. B. A heart problem called SCD.
C. Old age. D. Working too long.
25. Which of the following is a sign that you should stop exercising?
A. Feeling very happy. B. Having chest pain. C. Feeling thirsty. D. Breathing smoothly.
26. The word “save” in the first paragraph has different meanings. Which sentence uses “save” in the same way as “doctors could not save him”?
save/seɪv/ v. ①挽救,拯救 ②节省 ③储存,保留
A. We should save water every day. B. The brave firefighter saved a child from the fire.
C. She saved some money for the trip. D. Save your strength for the final game.
27. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Importance of Sleep B. How to Become a Good Educator
C. Lessons from Mr. Zhang’s Story D. The History of Heart Disease

Wilbur was a small pig. He lived with Fern in a warm house. But one day, Fern had sent him to her uncle’s farm. Wilbur felt lonely and sad. He cried a lot and refused to eat. “I don’t want to stay here alone,” he said sadly.
Scene One
At night, Wilbur heard a soft voice from above. “Hello, little pig. Why are you crying?” it said. Wilbur looked up and saw a grey spider on the web. “I’m lonely. I have no friends here,” Wilbur answered. “Don’t worry. I will be your friend. My name is Charlotte,” said the spider. Wilbur felt much better and started to eat some food.
Scene Two
The next morning, Wilbur told Charlotte about his problem. “Fern’s uncle will kill me for Christmas dinner,” he cried. Charlotte patted his head with her thin leg. “Don’t be afraid. I will help you. I will make a miracle (奇迹) for you.” she said seriously. Wilbur didn’t know how a spider could help, but he believed her.
Scene Three
Charlotte began to work day and night. She climbed up and down her web, using her silk to make words. It was hard work, and she felt very tired. But she never stopped. Wilbur watched her carefully and wanted to help, but he couldn’t spin silk. He just brought her some small insects to eat.

①Hobbies not only make us happy, but also keep our brains healthy. A Canadian study found that long-term hobbies can improve the brain’s structure.
②The research studied 58 people who love birdwatching. Half were experts, while the other half were beginners. Both groups included people of different ages, from the 20s to the 70s, and were similar in education.
③During brain scans, volunteers saw a bird photo for less than four seconds. Then, they had to pick the bird from four different pictures. This test was done 72 times, with 18 different kinds of birds.
④The expert group successfully picked out 83 percent of local birds and 61 percent of nonlocal ones, while the beginners only got 44 percent right for both. The scans also showed differences in brain structure: the areas responsible for attention and working memory are more compact in the experts, no matter the age. These areas also “lit up” when the experts tried to pick nonlocal birds—something that did not happen in the beginners’ brains.
⑤Creative hobbies, like music and dancing, are also good for the brain. A 2025 study found that the brains of dancers appeared over seven years younger than their actual age. AI models also showed that even short-term creative learning, like 30 hours, can “turn back time” for the brain. “Creativity shapes not only culture but biology,” the scientists wrote on The Conversation.
32. Why does the writer mention the Canadian birdwatching study at the beginning of the passage?
A. To suggest that people should take up birdwatching as a hobby.
B. To lead into the topic of how hobbies influence brain health.
C. To explain the steps of the brain scan test.
D. To show that older people can also have good memory.
33. According to Paragraph④, which of the following is TRUE about the experts’ brains?
A. Their attention areas were less active than beginners’.
B. Their brain areas “lit up” only when picking local birds.
C. They had more compact brain areas for attention and memory.
D. They had larger brain structures than beginners.
34. If there is a sixth paragraph, what would it most probably talk about?
A. How different hobbies influence brain health in different ways.
B. The history of birdwatching as a popular hobby.
C. The best age for people to start a creative hobby.
D. How to train beginners to become birdwatching experts
35. Which of the following facts does the passage use to show that hobbies help keep the brain healthy?
A. Birdwatching experts can pick out 83% of local birds.
B. Dancers’ brains appeared over seven years older than their actual age.
C. Beginners’ brains showed no difference in brain scans.
D. Learning creative hobbies for 30 hours can benefit the brain.

Many teenagers relax by playing video games or watching short videos. But Zhang Xue, a motorcycle (摩托车) maker from China, finds his peace and energy in a different way—through engines (引擎) and speed.
Zhang grew up poor in a small village. As a boy, he had no money for a motorcycle, but his love for it never died. At 16, he started working in a repair shop to learn everything about bikes. Working on engines became his way to relax and escape from everyday worries. Later, he became a professional racer. But his biggest dream was to build his own motorcycles.
In March 2026, history was made. A French rider won two races at the World Superbike Championship in Portugal on a ZXMOTO bike—a brand created by Zhang. It was the first time a Chinese brand had won such a top event. Zhang jumped to his feet with tears in his eyes. “I’m so happy that I can’t find the words,” he said.
Zhang once said, “I never think about doing anything else. Once I start, I keep going, even if I fail for ten years. I simply love motorcycles.” His story shows us that a true hobby is not just for fun—it can help us stay healthy, grow stronger, and even change our lives. His journey from a repair shop to a world champion teaches us that when we find what we truly love, it gives us the power to face difficulties and never give up.

Do you ever buy a blind box from Pop Mart just for the excitement of opening it? Do you enjoy going to concerts or cat cafes? Do you buy things like online game skins or nice-smelling candles to make yourself feel better? All these are called emotional consumption (情感消费).
Nowadays, it is widely popular among the young people. Heavy pressure from study and work makes them look for easy ways to relax It greatly helps a large number of people find friends with the same hobbies and get a sense of identity (认同). Besides, the idea of “making yourself happy” and doing things you couldn’t do as a child also makes it more popular.
In fact, emotional consumption plays a helpful role in people’s lives, offering real comfort (安慰) and joy when people feel tired or lonely. A report shows that in 2025, people spent more than 2.7 trillion yuan on emotional consumption and this number is still growing fast. It has become a very important part of the market.
However, the hidden dangers behind it are worth noticing if people lose control. Impulsive (冲动的) buying may lead to a waste of money. Nearly one-fifth of young people pay over 2,000 yuan for it monthly. Also, some people try to make them feel better by buying things instead of facing their real problems in life. What’s more, some businesses use people’s feelings to set traps (陷阱) and trick them into buying more.
To consume (消费) wisely, young people are expected to learn to tell the difference between their real needs and simple wants. They can make a spending plan and think twice before buying anything. It is a better choice for them to relax in healthier and cheaper ways, such as doing sports or talking with friends. In this way, they can take a proper attitude (态度) toward emotional consumption and make it a pleasant part of life.
Summary.
Emotional consumption, such as ________54________, going to concerts or cat cafes, buying game skins and nice-smelling candles, is very popular among young people. It not only helps them relax under pressure, ________55________. What’s more, it brings comfort and supports. However, there are some problems.
【答案】24. B 25. B 26. B 27. C
