A Class Survey on Communication
Last week, our English teacher asked us to do a survey about how we communicate with others. She said, “Communication is a system. If we use it properly, it can bridge a cultural divide.” We worked in groups and made a chart based on 120 students’ answers.
The chart showed that 62 per cent of students like to text friends after school. My fellow classmate Lily thought I was being rude. I didn’t realise that. I just felt tired that day and wanted to finish my homework.
The next morning, Lily didn’t cheer for me in PE like before. I felt a bit worried. At lunch, I walked to her and said, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude.“ She smiled and said, “Thanks for telling me in person. I should have asked first.”
Our teacher said that online messages may cause embarrassment, so we should avoid unclear words. If something goes wrong, go ahead and explain. A small apology can fix a big problem in the end.

Third, breathe deeply and repeat a word or phrase slowly, such as “relax” or “take it easy” to yourself while breathing. Besides, you can try to think of people and things you are thankful for because you can’t be truly angry and grateful at the same time.
Anger is never an excuse to give up your work or influence the people around you. Remember: life will always be filled with pain, frustration and some other unexpected actions.
They said texting is fast, and emojis can help show feelings. 25 per cent prefer talking in person, because they can see facial expressions and gestures. The rest use social media to chat or share videos. They think it is a good medium for social life.
However, the survey also asked about problems. Many students reported that they sometimes misunderstand messages online. For example, I once sent a short reply “OK” without an emoji.

C.Lily thought the writer was rude because of a text.
D.The writer made fun of Lily’s accent.

How to Control Your Anger
Anger is a common and healthy human emotion. But when it gets out of control, it can cause problems: problems at work, in your personal relationships and in your family life. Everybody gets angry sometimes. And the following ideas may calm you down and help solve the problem which is troubling you.
First, exercise can be good for people who are trying to get their tempers under control because it’s a method of releasing energy and stress. For example, you will feel good to dance around your room with your favourite music! Second, get into the habit of saying how you’re feeling and why. If you’re having trouble with your temper, talk with your parents or friends and tell them what you’re trying to do. Words help you show your feelings and receive understanding from others.
You can’t change that, but you can change your way to face the events that affect you. Learning to control your angry responses can help you stay away from being even unhappier.
41.Is anger a healthy human emotion when it is under control?
42.What problems will be caused if anger gets out of control?
43.Why is exercise helpful for people to control their tempers?
44.What extra tip is mentioned to calm down besides exercise, talking with others and deep breathing?

【答案】41.Yes, it is. 42.It will cause problems at work, in personal relationships and in family life. 43.Because it’s a method of releasing energy and stress. 44.Try to think of people and things you are thankful for. 45.No, we can’t. 46.The passage mainly tells us how to control our anger. Next time, I will try deep breathing to calm down.

Dear Friend,
I understand your pain. Keeping a secret like this is heavy on your heart. Here is my advice.
First, you must tell your teacher the truth. It will be the hardest thing you’ ve ever done, but it is the only way to free yourself. Explain that you made a mistake and that you are truly sorry. Second, accept the consequence, whether it’ s a zero on the test or another punishment. This is how you rebuild trust. Finally, remember this feeling. Let it guide you to make better decisions in the future.
One lie can cause a lifetime of trouble, but the truth, even painful, is the first step to becoming a better person. You can do this.

47.例文
