My husband made a two-story house for our Little Free Library, while I carefully picked books from our bookshelves. Instead of loading boxes into the car for another used book sale, we decided to simply share them with others.
Fifteen or so years later, it’s safe to say that thousands of books, as well as DVDs, CDs and jigsaw puzzles (拼图) have been shared through our little library. Located on a noisy street just a few blocks (街区) from a subway station, our little library sees dozens, perhaps hundreds, of passers-by each day.
Many of those who use our library do not hesitate (迟疑) to share their love of this neighborhood resource (资源). One gentleman regularly stops by to pick up books for a nearby retirement home (养老院). At other times, we have received cards and small gifts, including chocolates and even a drawing from a local artist.
Like the people who use our library, the books that come and go also show the diversity (多样性) of our city. Alongside the English-language books, there is a surprising number of Arabic, French and Russian books. I’ve even collected my favorite books in languages I don’t understand, simply for the joy of adding another edition (版本) to my collection.
As a result, our library hasn’t solved our book storage (储存) problem—if anything, we now have more books than ever before. We continue to buy more books than we actually need. There’s no doubt that our Little Free Library has deepened our love of reading. It also has brought us closer to other book lovers in the heart of our busy neighborhood.
30.Why did the writer and her husband build the Little Free Library?
A.To give their kids a place to read. B.To get ready for used book sales.
C.To make room for their bookshelves. D.To deal with their unwanted books.
31.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.People’s love of the library. B.Other neighborhood resources.
C.The friendships between library users. D.People’s help in making the library bigger.
32.According to the writer, what do the books of the library show about the city?
A.Storage problems. B.Cultural diversity.
C.The love of collecting. D.Ways of relaxing.
33.How has the library made a difference, according to the last paragraph?
A.There is more space for books in the city. B.It encourages a spirit of sharing.
C.There is a community of book lovers now. D.People now visit each other more often.
D
At the Paralympic Games (残奥会), many blind or nearly blind athletes race (比赛) with the help of a guide. These pairs work very closely together.
Jerusa Geber is a runner who lost her sight as a teenager. When she races with her guide Garcia, he runs to her left. They each hold one end of a short rope. If they’ve started well, he matches her speed bit by bit, but with the opposite foot. They work so well together that Jerusa now holds the women’s world record in the 100-metre race for blind or nearly blind athletes.
Since 2012, guides at the Paralympics can win medals too. But the teamwork is about more than just winning. Garcia is a runner himself. “I like being a guide,” he said. “I feel more pressure (压力) at the Paralympics. I have to give 200% of myself to avoid mistakes and help my teammate do her best.”
In cycling, Hannah Chadwick and her guide, Skyler Espinoza, also work closely. When they ride together, Espinoza always holds Chadwick’s hand before starting,” It’s a reminder (提示) that we’re in this together,” Espinoza said.
Chadwick and Espinoza follow the same training plan. Sometimes, when the training gets hard, Chadwick thinks of her teammate. “I’m not training just for myself,” she said. “I’m training for both of us!”
People sometimes say Espinoza is making a sacrifice (牺牲) for a disabled athlete. But she doesn’t see it that way. Espinoza believes that if she hadn’t been a Paralympic guide, she would never have shone so much in sport. “I’m lucky that Hannah chose me to do this, just as I chose to do it with her,” she said.
34.How does Garcia help the blind athlete Jerusa Geber?
A.He walks in front of her to show the path.
B.He runs behind her and shouts directions.
C.He rides a bicycle next to her to guide the way.
D.He holds a rope, running beside her with the opposite foot.
35.Which of the following words best describes the guides at the Paralympics?
A.Crazy. B.Generous (willing to give and share).
C.Brave. D.Humorous.
36.What’s the best title for the text?
A.Winning Together B.How to Become a Great Guide
C.Special Help for Athletes D.The Hard Life of Paralympic Athletes

The way someone chooses to spend his or her free time shows the person’s values (价值观). Sharing the same values while helping others is a great way to make new friends. By volunteering, you will have more friends in a short time.
Every day we may watch or hear sad news and stories. However, volunteering is a good way to make the world a better place. Even a plain thing can make a difference.

【答案】30.D 31.A 32.B 33.C
30.第一段“Instead of loading boxes into the car for another used book sale, we decided to simply share them with others.”
31.第三段首句即点明本段核心“Many of those who use our library do not hesitate to share their love of this neighborhood resource.”,主要内容是人们对这家图书馆的喜爱。故选A。
32.第四段“Like the people who use our library, the books that come and go also show the diversity of our city.”

【答案】34.D 35.B 36.A
根据“When she races with her guide Garcia, he runs to her left. They each hold one end of a short rope...but with the opposite foot.”
根据“I feel more pressure (压力) at the Paralympics. I have to give 200% of myself to avoid mistakes and help my teammate do her best.”和“Espinoza believes that if she hadn’t been a Paralympic guide, she would never have shone so much in sport...”
故选A。

【答案】37.D 38.A 39.E 40.F
