The water whistle (哨子)
Want to make your own instrument? Let’s try this cool science experiment (实验)!
What you need:
√ A glass √ A straw (吸管) √ A pair of scissors √ Water
Steps:
1. Cut the straw near its middle. Make sure the two parts stay connected so that you can bend it 90 degrees at the cut.
2. Fill the glass with water.
3. Put one end of the straw into the water. Bend the straw 90 degrees at the cut and blow into the other end.
4. Raise and lower the straw in the water.
What happens:
When you blow into the straw, it makes a sound — like a whistle. When you raise or lower the straw in the water, the sound changes.
Why?
The straw works like a simple wind instrument. When you blow into it, the air inside vibrates (震动) and creates sound. By moving the straw up and down in the water, you change the length of the air column inside it. Think of the air column as a spring (弹簧): the longer the spring is, the slower it vibrates and the lower the sound; the shorter the spring is, the faster it vibrates and the higher the sound.
21. What do you need to make a water whistle?
①a glass ②a straw ③a spring ④a pair of scissors ⑤water
A. ①②③④ B. ①②④⑤ C. ②③④⑤
22. What makes the sound when you blow into the straw?
A. The straw itself.
B. The water in the straw.
C. The vibrating air inside.
23. In which section of a website can we probably read the passage?
A. Science. B. People. C. Animals.

Imagine a world with no traffic rules: Cars can go wherever they want. Bikes move quickly on sidewalks. People cross busy streets anytime, anywhere. Things would be out of order and dangerous!
Thankfully, our real world is not like that. We have traffic rules that everyone must follow. These rules are not made to make our lives difficult. They are here to create order and, most importantly, to keep everyone safe.
▲ Red means “stop”, green means “go”, and yellow means “slow down and be ready to stop”. They stop cars from crashing into each other and keep walkers safe too. Crosswalks give people a safe place to walk across the street. Drivers know to watch for walkers there.
Traffic rules help traffic move smoothly. When everyone follows the same rules — like stopping at stop signs and using turn signals when turning — there are fewer traffic jams. You can get to school, a friend’s house, or back home more quickly.
Different places sometimes have different rules. In the UK and Thailand, people drive on the left side of the road. In the US and China, drivers use the right side. But the most important rules, like stopping at a red light, are the same almost everywhere in the world. The goal is always the same: safety and order for all.
So, the next time you wait for a green light, remember it’s not just a sign or a colour. It’s a promise we all make to look out for each other. Together, by following the rules, we turn a dangerous road into a safe way for everyone’s journey.
24. How does the writer start the text?
A. By telling a real story.
B. By listing some traffic rules.
C. By describing an imagined place.
25. Which of the following can be put in “ ▲ ”?
A. Think about traffic lights.
B. Walkers should always be careful.
C. Traffic jams are a big problem in cities.
26. In which country do people drive on the left according to the text?
A. In China. B. In the UK. C. In the US.
27. What does the text mainly talk about?
A. Why traffic rules are strict in some countries.
B. What people should do when crossing the road.
C. What traffic rules are and why they are important.

Once upon a time, in a small village in the middle of a forest, there lived a young girl named Lila. Lila was known throughout the village for her very bad temper (脾气). She would often get angry at her friends and family, and her anger would sometimes take control of her.
One day, Lila and her best friend Maya were playing a game when Lila suddenly fell down. Maya laughed, thinking Lila was just playful and that it didn’t hurt at all, but Lila didn’t see it that way. She felt embarrassed (尴尬的). Without thinking, Lila got angry at Maya, calling her names and pushing her away. Maya was hurt and didn’t understand why, and she ran off crying. Lila was left alone, feeling sorry about her actions.
That night, Lila couldn’t sleep. She kept thinking about what she had done to Maya. She knew she had to make things right, but she didn’t know how.
The next day, Lila went into the forest, hoping to find a way to control her anger and make up with Maya. She saw a wise old owl (猫头鹰) in a tree.”Hello, young girl,” the owl said. “What brings you here?” Lila explained her situation to the owl.”Anger is powerful,” the owl said. “It can be helpful in encouraging us to take action, but it can also drive us to strike out (猛烈攻击) and hurt others and ourselves. The key is to learn how to control it.” The owl then gave Lila a small stone and asked her to carry it with her, saying that whenever she felt angry, she could hold it in her hand and take three deep breaths.
It wasn’t easy at first, but with practice, Lila learned how to control her anger and think before she acted. She also said sorry to Maya and promised never to let her anger hurt Maya again. Maya forgave her, and they became even closer than before.
28. Why did Maya laugh when Lila fell down?
A. She thought Lila did that just for fun.
B. She was embarrassed and didn’t know what to do.
C. She laughed every time unexpected things happened.
29. Why did Lila go into the forest the next day?
A. To look for her good friend Maya.
B. To find a way to solve her problem.
C. To forget about all her unhappiness.
30. What can we learn about anger from the owl’s words?
A. It is a sign of weakness and failure.
B. It is totally a bad and harmful emotion.
C. It can produce both good and bad results.
31. What life lesson does the story mainly teach us?
A. Anger is a feeling to be managed.
B. True friends always forgive each other.
C. Friendship requires going through tests.

The Uyuni Salt Flat, located in southwestern Bolivia, is known as the ”Mirror of the Sky”. After the rain, this place looks like a mirror. It reflects the sky so perfectly that you can’t tell where the ground ends and where the sky begins. The amazing mirror effect doesn’t come out of thin air. It is made possible by three key factors (要素).
The first and most important factor is the flat ground. The ground of the Uyuni Salt Flat is one of the flattest on Earth. The salt flat was formed when ancient lakes dried up over time. When the water of these lakes evaporated (蒸发), a thick and flat layer (层) of salt was left behind. This made the ground almost perfectly flat. Therefore, when it rains, the water doesn’t collect in water holes. Instead, it forms an even layer of water on the top of the salt. This is what creates the huge natural mirror.
The rainfall also plays an important role, It can’t be a storm. Just enough rain to cover the layer of salt is perfect. If the rain is heavy, water holes will form and the mirror effect will be lost.
Besides, calm weather is necessary for the clear mirror effect. Even a small wind can make waves on the water. These waves will break up the clear reflection and take away the magical experience.
The mirror effect mainly appears during the rainy season, which runs from December to March. If you want to see the beautiful view, you need to know that the effect doesn’t last long. When the water evaporates under the sun, the “mirror” disappears and the ground turns back into hard, white salt.
32. What does the underlined part ”come out of thin air” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Happen in a clear sky.
B. Happen for no reason.
C. Be planned carefully.
33. What do we know about the Uyuni Salt Flat from paragraph 2?
A. Water holes are often found across the surface of the salt flat.
B. It is flat because wind has smoothed its surface over time.
C. The flat ground allows rainwater to form an even layer.
34. What does the Uyuni Salt Flat look like after the mirror effect is gone?
A. It becomes soft and muddy.
B. It turns back into a deep lake.
C. It returns to a hard and white land.
35. Which best shows the right structure of the passage?
A. ① / ②③④ / ⑤ B. ① / ②③ / ④⑤ C. ①② / ③④ / ⑤
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有一项为多余选项。
Hey there! I know how it feels when talking to parents seems so hard. When I was in middle school, I used to get angry easily when talking to my parents. But over time, I learned a few small things that really helped. 36
First, try to take a deep breath before you answer your parents. 37 For example, if they ask you to clean the kitchen when you have a big exam the next day, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and then explain that you need to study.
38 When they seem unreasonable, ask yourself why they are acting this way. Maybe they are tired from work, worried about your future, or just repeating what their own parents did. Accepting that they, like everyone, aren’t perfect helps you reply with more patience and less conflict.
Spending a little time talking with them every day makes a difference too. One day, my mum asked about a game I liked, and I explained it for ten minutes. It felt nice. Then I started setting aside just 10 to 15 minutes after dinner to share something small with my parents. It didn’t solve every problem, but it built a bridge. 39
Finally, don’t be afraid to say sorry or to forgive. After arguments, I used to stay silent for days. But gradually, I realized saying “I’m sorry” or ”It’s OK” helped us move on faster. 40
Those small steps changed my relationship with my parents slowly, surely, and deeply. You can start with just one and see how it feels.
A. Maybe they can help you too.
B. I want to stop this, but I don’t know how.
C. It helps you calm down and speak more kindly.
D. Also, learn to see things from your parents’ side.
E. It’s not easy, but it really helps us feel lighter inside.
F. Over time, those little conversations made the bigger talks easier.

第四部分 写作(共两节,满分30分)
第一节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题,并将答案写到答题卡的相应位置。
When I was in sixth grade, our class went on a field trip to a nearby beach. But once we got there, we were shocked by what we saw. There was rubbish everywhere — plastic bags, empty bottles, and even old tires. It was sad to see how polluted the beach was.
Our teacher, Brooklyn, decided to turn the field trip into a clean-up activity. She handed out gloves and bags, and we spent the whole day collecting all the rubbish on the beach.
It was hard work, but we all knew that by cleaning up the beach, we were helping to protect the ocean and the animals that lived there. After cleaning, Brooklyn explained to us how pollution could harm the environment. She told us about things like oil spills (石油泄漏) and how they could be harmful to the whole ecosystem. And she also shared ways we could help. She encouraged us to use reusable bags, recycle more, and care about our effect on the environment.
As we walked away from the beach that day, I realized that every small action counts when it comes to protecting the environment. Since then, I’ve tried my best to do my part. I learned that we can make a big difference if we all work together.
61. How did the students feel when they saw rubbish on the beach?
62. How long did the students spend collecting all the rubbish on the beach?
63. What did Brooklyn encourage the students to do?
64. What did the writer learn from the trip?
65. What do you often do to protect the environment?
