How do you usually use AI? Most students open Deepseek, type a question, get an answer, and close it. Done. But Conor Grennan, an AI expert from New York University, points out this is wrong. “Most people treat AI as a search engine (搜索引擎),” Grennan explains, “But AI is much more powerful than that. It should be your thinking partner.”
How are they different? Grennan gives an example. When you search for a hotel the “Google way”, you just get a list of nearby places. However, if you share what you like to do and what your habits are, you will get a totally different result. AI will recommend hotels that fit your needs — maybe a quiet place if you love reading, or one close to the subway if you need to travel around the city.
However, AI isn’t a perfect friend from the start. To make it better, Grennan gives some practical suggestions. First, a good friend is kind, but AI is sometimes too nice — AI says “Great idea!” to everything, which can be a problem. So instead of letting AI only praise you, you can ask questions like “What problems do you see in my ideas?” and “What are your doubts about my ideas?” What’s more, good friends know you well. You can discuss your opinions with AI, and ask it to give examples to support them. In this way, AI can think with you, not for you.
In the end, AI can be your English conversation partner or your brainstorming friend for projects. The key is simple: don’t “ask” it — have conversations with it in an active way.
Most people regard AI as a search engine. However, AI expert Conor Grennan argues that we should 1 . He uses an example to 2 : traditional search only offers a list of hotels, while AI can recommend suitable hotels with our likes and habits. He also suggests that 3 and talk with it about our opinions, so that we can make AI a better friend. All in all, AI works best when 4 .
【答案】1.consider it as our thinking partner 2.explain the difference/show the difference 3.we ask AI questions 4.we communicate with it actively/we talk with it actively
【导语】本文讲述了AI专家Conor Grennan指出AI不应仅被当作搜索引擎,而应作为思考伙伴,通过主动交流让AI更好地服务我们。
1.根据原文第一段“It should be your thinking partner.”可知这里需要填专家的观点,把这句转化为consider it as a thinking partner。
2.根据原文第二段“How are they different? Grennan gives an example.”可知这个例子的作用是展示AI和传统搜索引擎的区别,所以填explain/show the differences,简洁对应原文的举例目的。
3.结合后文“talk with it about our opinions”,前面填we ask AI questions,符合原文的操作建议。
4.根据原文最后一段“The key is simple: don’t ‘ask’ it — have conversations with it in an active way.” 这里需要总结AI发挥最佳作用的条件,把have conversations with it in an active way转化为we communicate/talk with it actively,符合要求。

We often hear setting clear goals is the key to success. For years, I believed this, so I always set goals. Sometimes I succeeded, but often I failed. Finally, I realized that my results had little to do with the goals I set but nearly everything to do with the systems I followed.
What do I mean by this? Are goals completely useless? Of course not. Goals are good for setting a direction. With a clear goal, you know exactly what to do every day. Also, you will be full of hope for the future after you set a goal.
However, problems often come up when you spend too much time thinking about your goals and not enough time designing your systems. That’s why you can’t make any progress by focusing only on goals. Here are some examples to help you understand it better.
As we know, every athlete’s goal is to win an Olympic medal. But goals cannot really distinguish (区别) between winners and losers because they share the same goals. Those who won medals made it not just by wanting to, but by improving their training systems through daily practice. Besides, a goal-focused mind can create a “yo-yo” effect. For example, many runners stop training after they cross the finish line because the goal is no longer there to motivate (激励) them. So goals aren’t good for making long-term progress, but systems keep you improving beyond (超出) single achievements. Finally, achieving a goal can only change your life temporarily (短暂地). Imagine you have a messy room and you set a goal to clean it. After tidying up, you will have a clean room. But if you keep the same habits, the mess will return. You still end up with a messy room because you never change your old habits. Only by following some systems can you make a big difference.
In short, goals can provide direction and even push you forward in the short term, but eventually a well-designed system will always win.
The writer used to believe that setting clear goals was the key to success, but later found that following the systems 1 than setting goals. Goals still matter because 2 , while systems are better for making progress. Focusing only on goals leads to 3 : it fails to distinguish between winners and losers, motivates people for a very short time and only changes life temporarily. In contrast (相反地), systems help people improve through daily practice, ensure long-term progress and 4 . In short, a well-designed system will help a lot on the way to success.
【答案】1.was more important/useful/helpful/mattered more/was better 2.they give us/people a direction and hope/they help us know what to do and give us hope 3.three/some/many problems/no/little progress/negative/bad results/influences 4.have a great influence on themselves/make big changes
【导语】本文主要围绕“目标与系统的关系”展开,指出目标虽能提供短期方向与动力,但长期来看,完善的行动系统才是持续进步与成功的关键。
1.文章第一段提到:“Finally, I realized that my results had little to do with the goals I set but nearly everything to do with the systems I followed.”,说明作者后来发现“遵循系统比设定目标更重要/更有用”,结合句中的“than”,用比较级表达这一含义即可。
2.文章第二段提到:“Goals are good for setting a direction. With a clear goal, you know exactly what to do every day. Also, you will be full of hope for the future after you set a goal.”,直接对应目标的作用,提炼为不超过30词、不连续抄3个词以上的短语即可。
3.文章第三段提到:“problems often come up when you spend too much time thinking about your goals and not enough time designing your systems. That’s why you can’t make any progress by focusing only on goals.”,后文还列举了目标导向的多个弊端,因此此处填“问题/无进步/负面结果”等含义的词即可。
4.文章第四段提到:“Only by following some systems can you make a big difference.”,说明系统能带来“重大改变/重要影响”,提炼对应含义的短语即可。
请根据文章内容,用自己的语言概括并补全信件,每空填入1个恰当的短语或句子。
The sun provides heat and light, making life on Earth possible. However, too much exposure (暴露) to ultraviolet (UV) rays can be harmful. You can’t see them but too much UV exposure can cause serious health problems. One main risk is skin cancer, which may develop after long-term sun exposure. Besides, UV rays can lead to sunburned skin, causing redness, pain, and peeling. Over time, too much exposure may result in skin aging too early. The eyes are also at great risk. UV rays can increase the chance of cataracts (白内障) and other eye problems, which can lead to poor eyesight.
Thankfully, information about UV is easy to find. Websites, newspapers, and TV weather reports provide daily UV levels. The higher the temperature is, the higher the UV levels and the greater the risk of harm will be. Experts advise that protection is necessary all year, but special care should be taken during hot months.
To reduce the harm caused by UV rays, doctors suggest a few ways to stay safe. Using sunscreen (防晒霜) often is necessary, especially when swimming. More attention should be given to areas like the ears and nose. Remember to put sunscreen on your skin 15-30 minutes before going out, reuse it every 2 hours and cover all exposed areas, especially face, ears, neck and hands. Wearing sun protective clothing, hats and sunglasses can also help stay away from UV rays. Another important thing is the UV rays are the strongest between 10 AM and 4 PM. During these hours, it’s best to stay indoors if possible. You can just stay indoors or plan outdoor activities in the early morning or late afternoon. If going out during that time is necessary, you’d better walk under the trees or umbrellas.
By following these simple but helpful prevention steps, you can enjoy the sun safely while protecting your health.
Dear Henry,

Imagine you’re in class, trying to listen to the teacher, but two classmates are chatting nearby. To keep your attention on the lesson, you have to keep out these distractions (干扰). This ability is called inhibition (抑制力).
Inhibition is your brain’s way of controlling actions and thoughts that you don’t need at the moment. It is key to doing well both in school and daily life. It keeps out unimportant things to help you stay focused and lets you pay attention to what really matters. It also helps control your actions and feelings, so you can stay calm when needed.
Inhibition is just like a party guard working in your brain. It has three main roles: access (准入), deletion (清除), and restraint (约束).
Access: At first, the guard only lets in people with tickets. The access role decides what information is important.
Deletion: After people enter, the guard may ask someone who is behaving badly to leave. This role helps take out distractions or unwanted behaviors.
Restraint: If someone is too loud or excited, the guard may tell them to calm down. The restraint role stops everything from getting out of control.
You can practice your inhibition easily. Create a quiet study place, use the five-second rule to control sudden wishes (Count 5-4-3-2-1 to yourself and immediately return to your task), or finish one small task before enjoying your phone or snacks, learning to put off immediate fun.
If you keep working on your inhibition, you will find it easier to focus and you’ll be able to learn better.
Inhibition is a very important ability. It helps people 1 by keeping out distractions and controlling their actions and feelings. Inhibition has three roles: deciding what matters, taking out distractions and keeping everything 2 . There are some 3 for people to practice inhibition. If people try to work on it, 4 .
【答案】1.stay focused and calm/keep their attention and stay calm 2.under control 3.ways/methods/tips 4.they will focus better and learn better
【导语】本文主要介绍了大脑中的“抑制力”这一重要能力,解释了它的三个主要作用(准入、清除、约束),并提供了几种简单易行的练习方法,最后说明坚持训练抑制力有助于提升专注力和学习效果。
1.根据第一段中“To keep your attention on the lesson, you have to keep out these distractions”及第二段中“It keeps out unimportant things to help you stay focused and lets you pay attention to what really matters. It also helps control your actions and feelings...”可知,抑制力帮助人们保持专注和冷静。故填stay focused and calm/keep their attention and stay calm。
2.根据第四段中“The restraint role stops everything from getting out of control”可知,约束的作用是让一切不失控,即保持一切在控制之中。故填under control。
3.根据第六段中“You can practice your inhibition easily. Create a quiet study place, use the five-second rule...”可知,此处介绍练习抑制力的方法。故填ways/methods/tips。
4.根据最后一段“If you keep working on your inhibition, you will find it easier to focus and you’ll be able to learn better.”可知,坚持练习抑制力会让人更容易专注、学得更好。故填they will focus better and learn better。

Have you ever been on your way out, then suddenly worried, “Did I turn off the iron?” For people with smart homes, this problem is easy to solve.
In recent years, smart home technology has become more common and affordable. With products like smart lights and heating controls, controlling your home from anywhere is now a reality.
Mike, from Seattle, says, “We control our lights, security, TV, and heating from our phones. Our home even says hello when we enter!”
Companies like Philips, Amazon, and Google are making home automation (自动化) easier for everyone. Smart home technology helps save energy by automatically adjusting settings (调整设置). It also saves time. For example, you can set the kettle to boil for your morning tea.
Smart homes are also helpful in important ways. In Norway, a company uses this technology to help elderly people live independently. It gives reminders (提醒) for medicine and unusual situations at home. “It helps elderly people take care of themselves,” says a company manager.
For those who are used to smart homes, going back is hard. “When we visit friends, we expect things to work automatically. It can make us feel upset when they don’t,” Mike explains. “It would be like living without a cell phone.”
This passage mainly talks about the convenience and importance of 1 , allowing people to control things like lights and heating from anywhere. It helps people save 2 . It also helps the elderly live independently, by 3 so that they can look after themselves better at home. According to Mike, once you are used to a smart home, 4 .

Picture this: After studying all day, you are tired and want a cup of milk tea. In the past, that little voice in your head might say: “Stop! That’s not good for you!” But today, young people in China smile and tell themselves—“Ai ni laoji! Let’s go get one!”
The phrase “ai ni laoji” means “love you, dear old me.” It has become popular on Chinese social media since last year. The idea is simple: Treat yourself like your best friend. A best friend always cares about you and helps you. When you feel tired, it is okay to rest. Think of yourself like a phone: After a long day, you need to charge it. You can go shopping, enjoy your hobbies, or just relax.
This shows a big change in thinking. Older people often thought hard work was more important than personal feelings. Many believed that doing nothing was lazy and that thinking about yourself first was wrong. But young people today believe taking care of yourself is not bad. The question has changed from “Do I need this?” to “Does this make me happy?”
But remember: Taking care of yourself does not mean doing anything you want. If you use “ai ni laoji” as a reason to rest all the time, it will lose its meaning. True “ai ni laoji” means knowing when to take a break and when to work hard.
So yes, rest when you are tired, but keep going when it is time. In the end, loving yourself is not about running away from life. It is about having energy to live your life well.
“Ai ni laoji” (love you, dear old me) has become popular among young Chinese people. It means 1 and taking care of your needs. This shows 2 that only value hard work. However, true self-care doesn’t mean doing anything you want. It means 3 to live life well. In a word, 4 .
【答案】1.being kind to yourself/treating yourself well 2.a change from old ideas 3.balancing rest and work to have energy 4.love yourself and live life properly
【导语】本文介绍网络热词“爱你老己”的含义、走红原因,对比新旧观念差异,并阐释爱自己的真正内涵。
1.第二段给出释义:“The idea is simple: Treat yourself like your best friend.”,将善待自己视作对待挚友一般,进行概括转述,应填“being kind to yourself/treating yourself well”。
2.第三段对比观念差异:“This shows a big change in thinking. Older people often thought hard work was more important than personal feelings.”,体现和老一辈看重苦干的传统思想相比有巨大转变,概括整合文意,应填“a change from old ideas”。
3.末段点明真正意义:“loving yourself is not about running away from life. It is about having energy to live your life well.”,概括为懂得劳逸结合、保持精力好好生活,应填“balancing rest and work to have energy”。
4.全文总结主旨:文章倡导合理爱己,劳逸结合,用心过好生活,精简概括全文主旨,应填“love yourself and live life properly”。
What do you think Americans in the early twentieth century did on weekends? What do they do on weekends now?
Once upon a time, people spent lots of time at home on weekends. Then, new inventions changed the weekends. People used electric streetcars (地面电车) to travel in cities and they rode the streetcars to parks. Young people liked to ride roller coasters (过山车) there. The first movies lasted only one minute. Soon, however, movies got longer. In the 1920s, movie theaters sold millions of tickets each week. In 1927, movies finally had sound. Sometimes, people stayed at home instead and listened to another new invention—the radio. During the weekdays people in cities worked indoors, so they wanted to be outdoors on weekends. And bicycling became a popular activity.
But now, with more time, money and inventions, people have more choices. They can visit huge parks like Disneyland and ride modern roller coasters that go higher and faster than ever before. They can choose from lots of different movies at a multiplex (a building with many movie theaters) or watch a video at home. Many people enjoy jogging (慢跑), riding bicycles, doing exercise at a gym, or playing other sports in their spare time. Others like watching sports games on their TVs, computers or cellphones.
What Americans did or do on weekends
In the past
People went to 1 for fun. They watched movies in the theaters or listened to the 2 at home. And many people went outdoors on weekends.
At present
People can visit huge parks. And they can choose from different 3 at the multiplex. Doing 4 becomes popular. But some people don’t do so. They stay at home watching TV, surfing on the Internet or playing with their phones.
【答案】1.parks 2.radio 3.movies 4.exercise
【导语】本文对比了20世纪早期和现在美国人的周末休闲活动,介绍了随着发明进步、人们时间和财富的增加,美国人的周末休闲选择的改变。

Emma was sitting in her room on a Saturday afternoon, staring at the wall. She had no homework, no plans, and nothing interesting to do. She was bored, and she felt uncomfortable about it.
Boredom is something everyone has experienced. Many of us think that time is so valuable that every moment in our life should be spent learning or improving. In that case, being bored is unacceptable.
However, there is something that we should know. When we are bored, we are not just “doing nothing”—we are giving our brains a break from social media, games, and busy schedules. Also, studies show that creativity can be developed through boredom. For example, a student may find a new way to solve a math problem, or a kid may come up with a fun game to play with friends.
To enjoy boredom, we can sit quietly for a few minutes, letting our mind wander freely. Besides, looking around, we may notice that the tiny flowers grow between cracks (裂缝) in the sidewalk, the afternoon sunlight makes buildings look golden and warm and a butterfly rests quietly on a leaf. We may be surprised at how much we’ve missed before.
Remember, boredom is not an enemy—it’s a normal part of life. And we don’t need to feel worried or uncomfortable about it. Those moments are a chance for us to discover new thoughts and ideas. Next time boredom comes, face it and enjoy it. If we enjoy the boredom, we will build a peaceful inner world.
Everyone has experienced boredom and some people may feel uncomfortable about it. However, 1 . One is that it can relax our brains. Besides, it can 2 . To enjoy boredom, we can sit quietly with our mind wandering freely and 3 . Remember, boredom isn’t an enemy. There is no need to be worried or uncomfortable. Enjoying the boredom can make us 4 .
【答案】1.it has some benefits 2.develop our creativity 3.observe things around us 4.feel more peaceful
【导语】本文主要介绍了“无聊”并不是消极的,而是一个让大脑休息并激发创造力的过程,并针对如何享受无聊提出了具体的建议。
1.第三段提到:“However, there is something that we should know.”,随后列举了无聊的好处。此处需填入一个概括性的短语来转述其具有正面作用。
2.第三段提到:“…creativity can be developed through boredom.”,此处需将“发展创造力”进行同义转述。
3.第四段指出:“Besides, looking around, we may notice…”,除了静坐,还可以通过观察四周来享受无聊。此处需填入动词短语与前文的“wandering”构成并列。
4.第五段提到:“…we will build a peaceful inner world.”。此处需填入make的宾语补足语,转述“拥有宁静的内心世界”这一结果。

Snacking is very common and increasingly so. In the early 1970s, for example, US adults got about 18% of their total calories from snacks. By 2010, it rose to 23%. Similar numbers are seen in the UK, Brazil and Norway.
However, there’s a common belief that snacking is unhealthy. Given how common snacking is, it would be good to know if the common belief is true. But research on the health effects of snacking has had mixed results. Some results show that snacking is bad for health, while others show the opposite. To get a clearer picture, Sarah Berry from King’s College London and her partners re-studied the results from an experiment in 2018 and 2019.
Their main finding was a bit surprising: snacking itself doesn’t do harm to health. “There was no difference in health depending on the number of eating times,” she says. “If you had three or six meals, it didn’t matter.”
“What matters is the quality of the snack and the time,” says Berry. People who had healthy snacks like fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds and didn’t snack late were even better off than non-snackers. That may be because well-timed, healthy snacks reduce hunger and overall calorie intake.
Another important point to consider is the reason behind snacking. Well, research shows most of us snack out of habit or boredom, not real hunger. As Berry puts it, “If you don’t need the energy, that’s a problem.” So, being aware of why we’re snacking is just as important as choosing the right snacks and the right time to eat them.
In short, snacking isn’t always bad for our health. Whether it’s good or not depends on what snacks we choose, when and why we eat them. To be healthy, pick healthy snacks such as fruits and nuts, don’t snack late, and make sure we snack because we really need to. This way, we can enjoy snacks and stay in good shape.
Snacking is getting common. People usually think it is unhealthy, but the results of the research 1 . So Sarah Berry and her team studied the results again. They found that snacking isn’t 2 . When snacking the right food at the right time, people will be healthier than non-snackers. The reason for snacking also matters. People had better snack when 3 . In short, snacking can be part of a healthy lifestyle if 4 .
【答案】1.are mixed 2.harmful/bad for health 3.really hungry/need energy 4.we choose the right snacks, eat them at the right time and for the right reasons
1.第2段第3句“But research on the health effects of snacking has had mixed results.”,句中提到关于零食健康影响的研究结果不一,结合上下文“People usually think it is unhealthy, but the results of the research ...”,此处应体现研究结果的不一致。
2.第3段第1句“Their main finding was a bit surprising: snacking itself doesn’t do harm to health.”,句中表明零食本身对健康无害。
3.第5段第2句“Research shows most of us snack out of habit or boredom, not real hunger.”及第6段第3句 “make sure we snack because we really need to”,句中指出吃零食应出于真实的饥饿或能量需求。
4.第6段第1-2句“In short, snacking isn’t always bad for our health. Whether it’s good or not depends on what snacks we choose, when and why we eat them.”,句中说明零食是否健康取决于选择的零食、食用时间和食用原因.

Born in Guangdong Province in 1926, Huang saw the pain of his homeland in the war during his childhood. These painful memories pushed him to study hard, and he made up his mind to use his knowledge to make the country strong.
In the 1950s, when China began the challenging journey of developing nuclear submarines (核潜艇). Huang Xuhua stepped up fearlessly. It was such a difficult task in China at that time. However, he and his team accepted the challenge. To keep the project secret, they cut off the connection with the outside world, even from their families. Huang Xuhua had to be away from his hometown for years.
During the process, they met lots of challenges. Creating a nuclear reactor (反应堆), for example, was extremely difficult. China didn’t have the technology and materials for such a project, and other countries kept their technology secret. They needed to depend on their own research. Without computers, they could only use simple tools like abacuses (算盘) and rules. Another key problem was making sure the submarine’s underwater stability (稳定性). Through countless tests, they finally achieved success.
In the 1970s, China’s first nuclear submarine was successfully built and tested, making China one of the few countries in the world with this technology. Huang Xuhua wasn’t satisfied with what they had achieved. Instead, he continued to improve submarine technology. His hard work earned him many honors, including the “Medal of the Republic” in 2019.
Now, as we remember him, we understand that his life teaches us to be brave and never give up. We, especially the younger generation, should learn from his spirit. Let’s take the responsibility, face challenges bravely, and work hard to build a stronger China, making his legacy (遗产) truly come alive.

4.根据第五段“Huang Xuhua was not satisfied with what they had achieved”可知,他对已取得的成就并不满意,所以填didn't satisfy him/didn’t make him satisfied/wasn’t enough。
