In 2012, Brooklyn’s Mike Matthews was at work when one of his coworkers came into the office, lamenting (哀叹) the loss of her loved one. As she opened up to him, a thought crossed his mind: She needed to talk to Grandma Eileen. So he gave her Eileen’s phone number. On Monday, the coworker returned to the office with a spring in her step. Eileen cheered her up, and their first call marked the beginning of regular communication.
But it wasn’t just a relationship that blossomed with Matthews’ coworker “I set up a little lemonade stand, put a laptop on it, noise-cancelling headphones and then my grandma could virtually meet anyone in New York City that was walking by,” Matthews recalled. That was the birth of the Grandma Stand.
For six years, Eileen called in and spoke with thousands of complete strangers, until she passed away in 2018 at the age of 102. “My grandma had so much love to give, and every person who talked to my grandma felt elevated felt seen, felt heard,” Matthews explained. “And she also benefited, like she felt like she was valued.”
After her death, Matthews retired the Grandma Stand. But in 2024, he realized the world needed some good, old-fashioned wisdom. So he purchased a new lemonade stand, painted it Grandma Eileen’s favorite color — purple — and invited a kind grandma from his building to participate.
Since then, “Grandma Stand” has grown into a national project In New York, about 15 grandmothers take turns working at temporary stands, which can be found in Central Park, on the streets of Manhattan, or in any corner of the city.
As the movement grows, Matthews is thrilled that more grandmas — and strangers — are taking part. But it all still comes back to Grandma Eileen. “I think she would be watching this and saying get as many grandmas involved as humanly possible so at least they have a moment to shine and be heard,” Matthews said.
4.Why did Mike Matthews propose his coworker contact Grandma Eileen?
A.To ask for professional advice. B.To transfer her work pressure.
C.To seek emotional support. D.To introduce her to a new relation.
5.What motivated Matthews to create the Grandma Stand initially?
A.The positive outcome of his coworker.
B.The convenience of his grandmother.
C.His desire to start a business project.
D.His grandmother’s need for recognition.
6.What does the underlined word “elevated” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Confused. B.Astonished. C.Stressed. D.Delighted.
7.What might be Matthews’ vision for the project?
A.To promote traditional wisdom sharing. B.To get more seniors to participate.
C.To turn it into a profitable business. D.To have a moment to shine himself.
【答案】4.C 5.A 6.D 7.B

Zootopia 2, Disney’s long-awaited sequel (续集), has set a new standard in China’s film industry, breaking the single-day box office record for an imported animated film. The film attracted audiences when it came out on November 26, 2025, earning 213 million yuan by 8 p.m. and reaching 228 million yuan by the end of its opening day.
The record-breaking performance was not unexpected for industry observers. The film had already made history with 309.1 million yuan in nine-day pre-sales — setting a new standard for animated films released in China — while getting 254,000 opening-day screenings, the highest ever for an international film in the market. This great expectation led to an impressive 9.7/10 score on major ticketing platforms after its release.
Several factors led to this extraordinary success. The beloved pair of Officer Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde returned for another interesting adventure, bringing fans back to Zootopia’s lively world. Their latest task has them finding out hidden truths behind new character Gary De’Snake’s mysterious actions. The film explores themes of inclusion and understanding through its easy-to-follow storyline. Disney’s complete marketing activity, including strategic partnerships and special events across China, further raised awareness. Most importantly, the movie’s positive message about unity and courage deeply touched viewers.
Beyond commercial success, Zootopia 2’s achievement shows the strong connection Chinese audiences have formed with these characters and their world. The film proves how well-made animation with universal themes of friendship and harmony can achieve both critical praise and commercial success while crossing cultural boundaries.

The pre-show announcement instructed us to turn off our mobile phones, but I kept my phone on. I was at Vienna’s Burgtheater to watch a performance of Kirill Serebrennikov’s Barocco, but as a non-German speaker, I’m dependent on the surtitles For this performance, they were accessible via the Burgtheater’s free surtitle app Prompt, which audience members are able to download to their phones before the show on. During the performance, I was able to follow the translation on my phone. The surtitles were written in white on black so there was minimal glow (极暗淡的光) to distract other audience members.
The Burgtheater isn’t alone in offering such a service. In Vienna, surtitle apps are available for all productions in German and English, but Martin Kušej’s production of Faust is also available in Russian, while Three Winters by a Croatian playwright is available in the BSC (Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian) languages. These apps serve a double function in that they are intended for hard-of-hearing audience members as well as non-native speakers.
The key difference from the usual method of presenting surtitles, on screens mounted either above or at the sides of the stage, is that you must look back and forth between the screen and the stage, which can be distracting. The performance I was watching was music-driven so I only had to occasionally glance at the screen, but I’d imagine this might be more of an issue in a text-heavy production. Plus — and this is a very specific complaint — as a critic, it’s harder to write notes while holding a phone.
Surtitles are an access tool in more ways than one. International productions aside, in the UK we still tend to think of them in relation to hearing difficulties. Data shows that people increasingly watch TV with the subtitles on. Yet, when it comes to theater, they can sometimes feel like an afterthought. Apps offer an alternative to more traditional surtitles, but is this the way forward? Should more places in the UK be experimenting with them?
12.Why did the author keep his phone on during the performance of Barocco?
A.To download its surtitles. B.To write down some notes.
C.To receive announcements in time. D.To read the translation of the actors’ lines.
13.What can be learned about the surtitle app service offered by theaters in Vienna?
A.It provides multi-language surtitles. B.It allows users to interact with the performers.
C.It offers background information on each play. D.It tends to cause complaints from native speakers.
14.What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Not every show having surtitles. B.Constantly redirecting attention.
C.The distracting screen placed on stage. D.Surtitles being too small to read from a distance.
15.What does the last paragraph tell us about surtitle apps?
A.They can help with English learning. B.They are mainly used for international works.
C.They have become increasingly common on TVs. D.They have seen limited adoption in UK theaters.
【答案】12.D 13.A 14.B 15.D
根据第一段中“I was at Vienna’s Burgtheater to watch a performance of Kirill Serebrennikov’s Barocco, but as a non-German speaker, I’m dependent on the surtitles (唱词字幕). For this performance, they were accessible via the Burgtheater’s free surtitle app Prompt, which audience members are able to download to their phones before the show on. During the performance, I was able to follow the translation on my phone.(我在维也纳的城堡剧院观看基里尔·谢列布连尼科夫的《巴洛克》的演出,但作为一个不会说德语的人,我依赖于唱词字幕。对于这场演出,观众可以通过城堡剧院免费的唱词字幕应用程序Prompt在演出前下载到手机上。在演出过程中,我可以在手机上查看翻译)”可知,作者在演出期间一直开着手机是为了阅读演员台词的翻译。故选D项。
13.细节理解题。根据第二段中“In Vienna, surtitle apps are available for all productions in German and English, but Martin Kušej’s production of Faust is also available in Russian, while Three Winters by a Croatian playwright is available in the BSC (Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian) languages.(在维也纳,所有德语和英语演出的唱词字幕应用程序都有提供,但马丁·库谢的《浮士德》也有俄语版本,而克罗地亚剧作家的《三个冬天》则有BSC(波斯尼亚语、塞尔维亚语和克罗地亚语)版本)”可知,维也纳剧院提供的唱词字幕应用程序服务提供多种语言的唱词字幕。故选A项。
根据第三段中“The key difference from the usual method of presenting surtitles, on screens mounted either above or at the sides of the stage, is that you must look back and forth between the screen and the stage, which can be distracting.(与通常在舞台上方或两侧的屏幕上显示唱词字幕的方法的主要区别在于,你必须在屏幕和舞台之间来回看,这可能会分散注意力)”可知,此处描述的是在舞台上方或两侧的屏幕上显示唱词字幕需要观众不断转移注意力,由此可推知,划线词所在句“The performance I was watching was music-driven so I only had to occasionally glance at the screen, but I’d imagine this might be more of an issue in a text-heavy production.(我观看的这场演出是以音乐为主的,所以我只需要偶尔瞥一眼屏幕,但我想在文字密集的演出中,this可能更成问题)”中“this”指代的是前文提到的“不断转移注意力”。故选B项。
根据最后一段中“International productions aside, in the UK we still tend to think of them in relation to hearing difficulties. Data shows that people increasingly watch TV with the subtitles on. Yet, when it comes to theater, they can sometimes feel like an afterthought. Apps offer an alternative to more traditional surtitles, but is this the way forward? Should more places in the UK be experimenting with them?(除了国际演出之外,在英国,人们仍然倾向于将字幕与听力障碍联系在一起。数据显示,越来越多的人在看电视时会开启字幕。然而,在戏剧领域,字幕有时却像是一种事后补充。应用程序提供了替代传统字幕的方式,但这是未来的发展方向吗?英国应该有更多场所尝试使用它们吗?)”可知,在英国,人们仍然倾向于将字幕与听力障碍联系在一起,对字幕有偏见,结合最后的问句“Should more places in the UK be experimenting with them?”
It’s easy to assume that the best way to lift your spirits when you’re feeling down is to do something nice for yourself. 16 In one study, participants were assigned actions that benefited either themselves, other individuals or the whole of humanity. Those who acted in the interest of others experienced a boost in positive emotions and psychological well-being, while those who were tasked with treating themselves kindly did not.
I did not know this when I signed up with the conservation group. What I did know was that I was feeling worried about the ecological and climate crises so much that I had to visit a counsellor (咨询师). 17 “Do something,” he said. “That might help you.” That’s how, a week later, I found myself in Victoria Park, picking up scattered litter in the grass and on paths.
18 And I’ve not stopped since. I don’t mind if the tasks we do are extremely tiring or repetitive. Every time I volunteer, I will come home happy and satisfied. 19 I’m learning new skills, everything from how to use a tool properly, to how to distinguish between the songs of birds.
I still sometimes wonder: Are we really making a difference here? Are we just making ourselves feel better? I remind myself of something Isabel Losada writes in her book: 20
A.I’m acting for what I care about.
B.Does what others say really matter that much?
C.He switched me on to the idea of volunteering.
D.That first attempt at volunteering was four years ago.
E.What’s an ocean but millions upon millions of drops?
F.However, research suggests that selfless acts work better.
G.The mental boost from volunteering is called the “helper’s high”.
【答案】16.F 17.C 18.D 19.A 20.E
16.上文“It’s easy to assume that the best way to lift your spirits when you’re feeling down is to do something nice for yourself. (人们很容易认为,当你情绪低落时,提振精神的最佳方式是给自己做点好事)”提出了一种普遍的看法。F选项“However, research suggests that selfless acts work better. (然而,研究表明无私的行为效果更好)”通过“However”与上文构成转折,引出研究对“善待自己”这一看法的反驳。下文“In one study, participants were assigned actions that benefited either themselves, other individuals or the whole of humanity. Those who acted in the interest of others experienced a boost in positive emotions and psychological well-being, while those who were tasked with treating themselves kindly did not. (在一项研究中,参与者被分配去做有利于自己、他人或全人类的事情。那些为他人利益行事的人积极情绪和心理健康得到了提升,而那些被要求善待自己的人则没有)”则具体阐述了这一研究结果,与F选项形成“观点—例证”关系。故选F项。
17.上文“What I did know was that I was feeling worried about the ecological and climate crises so much that I had to visit a counsellor (咨询师). (我所知道的是,我对生态和气候危机感到非常焦虑,不得不去看心理咨询师)”描述了作者因环境问题而焦虑并寻求帮助。C选项“He switched me on to the idea of volunteering. (他启发了我去志愿服务的想法)”承接上文,用“He”指代上文的“a counsellor”,点明了咨询师建议的具体内容——志愿服务。下文““Do something,” he said. “That might help you.” That’s how, a week later, I found myself in Victoria Park, picking up scattered litter in the grass and on paths. (“做点什么,”他说,“那可能会对你有帮助。”就这样,一周后,我发现自己身处维多利亚公园,在草地上和小路上捡拾散落的垃圾)”则具体描述了咨询师的建议以及作者的行动,与C选项形成“建议概括—具体描述”的逻辑关系。故选C项。
18.上文“That’s how, a week later, I found myself in Victoria Park, picking up scattered litter in the grass and on paths. (就这样,一周后,我发现自己身处维多利亚公园,在草地上和小路上捡拾散落的垃圾)”描述了作者第一次参与志愿活动的具体场景。D选项“That first attempt at volunteering was four years ago. (第一次尝试志愿服务是在四年前)”承接上文,点明了第一次志愿活动发生的时间,并以此为时间节点。下文“And I’ve not stopped since. I don’t mind if the tasks we do are extremely tiring or repetitive. Every time I volunteer, I will come home happy and satisfied. (从那以后我就再也没有停止过。我不在乎我们做的任务是否极其累人或重复。每次做志愿者,我都会心满意足地回家)”则描述了自此之后的持续参与以及从中获得的满足感,形成“开端—持续”的时间逻辑。故选D项。
19.上文“Every time I volunteer, I will come home happy and satisfied. (每次做志愿者,我都会心满意足地回家)”描述了志愿服务带来的情绪价值。A选项“I’m acting for what I care about. (我正在为我所关心的事情行动)”承接上文,点明了作者参与志愿服务的深层动力——为自己所关心的事务(生态与环境)而行动,这与前文提到的“对生态和气候危机感到焦虑”相呼应。下文“I’m learning new skills, everything from how to use a tool properly, to how to distinguish between the songs of birds. (我正在学习新技能,从如何正确使用工具,到如何分辨鸟儿的歌声)”则介绍了志愿服务带来的个人成长,与A选项形成“动力—收获”的逻辑关系。故选A项。
20.上文“I still sometimes wonder: Are we really making a difference here? Are we just making ourselves feel better? I remind myself of something Isabel Losada writes in her book: (我有时仍会想:我们真的在产生影响吗?我们只是在让自己感觉更好吗?我提醒自己伊莎贝尔·洛萨达在她的书中写的话:)”作者提出了对志愿服务价值的疑问,并准备引用书中的话来回答自己。E选项“What’s an ocean but millions upon millions of drops? (海洋不就是由无数水滴汇聚而成的吗?)”作为一句富有哲理的话,符合“书中内容”的语境。这句话以隐喻的方式回答了上文的疑问:个人的微小行动(水滴)汇聚起来就能产生巨大影响(海洋),从而鼓励读者坚持行动。该选项与上文形成“提问—回答”的逻辑关系,并自然收束全文。故选E项。

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The longest heat wave on record sweeping through the town, Sebby could barely contain his excitement to cool off at the beach with Dad. Before heading out, they stopped at the nearby library to return a few books, and Sebby noticed a crew working on the roof.
“What are they doing?” he asked. Dad watched for a moment before answering. “Fixing the roof.” Pulling out of the parking space, he shook his head, adding that he had worked on a roofing crew for a few years. He thought it the hardest job he had ever had — no shade, just the sun burning his neck, and a sip of cold water felt like a treasure. It was then that an idea popped into Sebby’s head: to bring them some water. But the thought slipped away as quickly as the scenery flashing past his window, his attention turning to swimming.
The waves were perfect for bodyboarding, and a sea breeze cooled the air. But all too soon they were headed home, back to the heat. Sebby was half listening to the radio when the DJ gave the weather report. “The record-breaking heat will continue throughout the afternoon.” Glancing at the library as they passed, he saw the roofers still at work. “Do you think they have enough water?” he asked. “I’m sure they brought plenty,” Dad said, though his tone lacked confidence.
Back home, Sebby couldn’t shake the thought of the roofers. He shared the idea with his brother, Marcos, who had just returned from the movies. His brother shrugged. “You don’t even know those guys. They’ve probably gone home already anyway.”
Thinking Marcos may be right, Sebby walked to the driveway for a clearer view: the roofers were still there. “I don’t see any coolers or bottles anywhere,” he told Dad. “I really think they need some water.” A look of concern came over Dad’s face. He stood and picked up his car keys. “I think you’re right. It’s only going to get hotter.”注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

Sebby turned and went back into the house. He immediately found a large plastic box and filled it with plenty of cold bottled water and iced tea. Dad helped him carry the box to the car, and they drove back to the library right away. The sun was burning fiercely, and the roofers were still working hard, their clothes completely wet with sweat. Sebby stood under the library and called out to them loudly.
Hearing the shout, the sweating roofers paused and turned for a look. They were quite surprised to see a boy offering them cold drinks. They climbed down the ladder one by one and thanked Sebby sincerely. Each took a bottle of water and drank it with relief, their faces showing great gratitude. The workers praised Sebby for his kindness, and Dad smiled with pride at his son. On that hot day, Sebby truly understood that a small act of kindness could bring great warmth to others.

Disney’s complete marketing activity, including strategic partnerships and special events across China, further raised awareness. Most importantly, the movie’s positive message about unity and courage deeply touched viewers.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
