Junji’s initial excitement upon arriving in the French town of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie for his term abroad quickly gave way to a more complex emotion born of a growing list of worries — the unfamiliar climate, the fast-paced local language threatening to make his classroom French useless, and heavy traffic in the ancient narrow streets, yet one concern stood apart: a fear that it would be tough to fit in with the new eating pattern. What he had not anticipated, however, was that the real challenge would be social barriers, which seemed to be rooted in the fabric of daily life.
On his third day, he wandered into a local bakery. He just pointed to a golden cake, and the baker, a woman named Sylvie, stopped for a moment and then served him in silence. When Junji paid, he said, “Thanks!” Sylvie replied with a phrase “S’il vous plaît”. Junji, assuming this was part of a polite goodbye, hurried out of the door, saying “Au revoir”. The following morning, he tried to greet his hostess Madame Moreau with a casual “Hey”, only to be met with a quiet response. Moreau explained that in France, entering a home or beginning a conversation without the formality of “Bonjour” was often viewed not as a simple mistake, but as disrespect.
The real moment of confusion, however, occurred during a community dinner. An elderly neighbor, Gaston, offered Junji a taste of his wine. Junji, wanting to be polite, declined with a wave of his hand, a gesture he considered perfectly friendly. Gaston seemed taken aback and grew so awkward. Later, Moreau explained that dealing with such an offer from an elder like that could be misinterpreted as rejecting friendship and community. In a society that valued such connections, accepting, even just symbolically, was the expected bridge.
It was then that Junji understood. His challenge was about decoding a whole new set of unwritten rules. He realized that learning to read the hidden intentions that floated beneath the surface of every interaction was crucial.
24.What bothered Junji most initially when he got to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie?
A.The fear of local socializing.
B.His lack of adaptation to the local diet.
C.The unfamiliar local climate.
D.His trouble with the local language.
25.What was Junji’s misstep in the local bakery?
A.He used informal responses.
B.He left without any word.
C.He failed to greet the baker.
D.He pointed rudely at the cake.
26.Why did Gaston feel embarrassed during the community dinner?
A.Junji talked with him symbolically.
B.Junji gave an inappropriate gift to him.
C.Junji tasted his wine without comment.
D.Junji incorrectly refused his invitation.
27.What does Junji’s experience indicate?
A.Cultural gap influences our communication.
B.We overcome culture shock by exploring it.
C.We should welcome cross-cultural lifestyles.
D.Culture can help discipline our daily behaviors.
C
As wildfires spread across forests and grasslands, they give off large amounts of gases and tiny particles (颗粒) into the air. Scientists now believe we may not have fully understood how much pollution these fires cause. A study reported in Environmental Science & Technology shows that wildfires around the world likely produce far more gases that harm air quality than earlier studies had suggested. The research also points out that in several areas, pollution from fires joins together with pollution from human activities, making air quality worse.
Every year, wildfires burn through huge areas of plants, sending a complex mix of chemicals into the atmosphere. These include VOCs that easily form in the air, plus IVOCs and SVOCs, which need higher heat to turn into gas and more readily become tiny particles. When people breathe in these particles, they can be harmful to health. However, they are often not studied when scientists look at what wildfires release. Their large quantity and chemical complexity make measurement difficult, leading past assessments to focus primarily on VOCs.
To solve this problem, Shuxiao Wang’s team tried to include IVOCs and SVOCs along with VOCs in their study to better understand how wildfires affect air quality, human health, and the climate. The team first analyzed a global database of burnt land from 1997 to 2023. Then they collected information about the chemicals released when different plants burn. When they could not get direct measurements from real fires, they used lab experiments to estimate the chemicals produced. By putting all this information together, they worked out yearly worldwide wildfire emissions (排放).
The results showed that wild land fires released an average of 143 million tons of chemicals yearly — about 21% higher than previous estimates. The team also found that although human activities produce more pollution overall, both wildfires and human activities release similar amounts of IVOCs and SVOCs. This finding highlights the greater-than-expected role of wildfires, particularly through IVOC and SVOC emissions, in reducing air quality. Different plans are needed to reduce pollution from both wildfires and human activities.
28.What does the author want to point out in paragraph 1?
A.Wildfires are spreading faster than before.
B.Wildfires are the main cause of air pollution.
C.Fire-related air pollution is more serious than known.
D.Human activities pollute the air more than wildfires.
29.Why were IVOCs and SVOCs often left out in earlier studies?
A.They disappear quickly in the air.
B.They are hard to measure accurately.
C.Their effect on climate is insignificant.
D.Their existence remained unknown.
30.Which best describes the study led by Shuxiao Wang’s team?
A.Thorough and data-driven.
B.Regional but well-recorded.
C.Theoretical and model-based.
D.Limited but system-building.
31.What can be concluded from the last paragraph?
A.Current policies fully control wildfire pollution.
B.Wildfires and human activities require emission cuts.
C.More research is needed on chemicals emissions.
D.Reducing human-caused pollution is less essential.
D
What’s your best friend’s phone number? Don’t feel bad if you couldn’t answer off the top of your head. You have no reason to commit phone numbers to memory: it’s just there in your phone. Or perhaps you once had a phone book to store them. In either case, an object does the remembering for you.
“Prosthetic memory” (外部辅助记忆) is nothing new. Writing itself has been a means of storing information. Yet the information revolution has generated more data than ever before. We are flooded with information. We’re creating more of it and keeping more of it. The storage capacity of the human brain has since been scanty. No wonder, then, that we’re increasingly dependent on memory prostheses, from libraries to smartphones.
Not everyone thinks this trend in external memory is good. Historically, memory prostheses were expensive. As technologies such as printing and photography become more affordable, sharing experiences with others is easier than ever. So every breakfast, every sunset, every encounter with a cat finds its way on to social media. And here comes the worry. When we devote ourselves to capturing and sharing the world in this way, something extremely valuable is lost; when recording so much of our lives, we’re forgetting to actually live them, and so disconnect ourselves from experience.
But is our social media-driven transformation wholly bad? If we’re still creating and sharing memories like this, perhaps this is because we’ve not had sufficient time to learn how to do these things without thinking about what we’re doing. It is easy to ignore that the mass social media era is less than a decade old. That’s just a short blink in human history, yet it has totally changed how we live. I suspect we’re not far off from being directly faced with experience yet with the ability to share experience in ways less bounded by geography and time. After all, technology can protect all the moments of a life that would otherwise be lost.
32.What can be inferred from paragraph 1?
A.We rely more on tools to memorize.
B.Technology weakens our brains.
C.We are burdened with phone numbers.
D.Technology distances us from our friends.
33.What does the underlined word “scanty” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.stable. B.insufficient. C.enhanced. D.outdated.
34.What negative effect does online sharing bring about?
A.An overflow of posts.
B.High cost of digital devices.
C.Addiction to the virtual world.
D.Loss of genuine experience.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.Prosthetic Memory: A New Invention Changing Our Lives
B.Technology Revolution: How It Replaces Human Memory
C.External Memory: Help or Harm to Human Memory and Lives?
D.Social Media: Is It Making Us Lose Our Ability to Remember?
Growing up without financial advantage often teaches invaluable lessons about the truth of wealth. 36 Instead, it’s about relationships, health, and a mindful approach to life’s offerings.
For many who grew up with less, the true measure of wealth is found in the strength of their relationships. When material possessions (财富) are short, the love from family and friends becomes valuable. 37 This view develops a deep appreciation for genuine connections over material gains. Prioritizing these connections leads to a fulfilling life, which can never be replaced by money.
Another insight from individuals who experienced poverty firsthand is that they don’t need more money than what they actually need. Experiencing life with limited wealth teaches the importance of distinguishing between needs and wants. Those who grew up poor often prioritize essentials. 38 This understanding leads to a minimalist mindset, where collecting more isn’t the goal. Instead, satisfaction lies in meeting basic needs and appreciating the simple pleasures in life.
39 Individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds often witness how poor health can worsen financial struggles. They value healthy habits and recognize the importance of being well more. Investing in health becomes a fundamental principle, as it enables individuals to pursue goals and experience life fully.
People who grew up in poverty often develop an incredible ability to maintain relationships, hold a positive mindset and adopt healthy habits. They know how to connect with the loved ones genuinely, how to diversify meals to ensure nutrition and how to find free or low-cost ways to enjoy life. This adaptability is a skill that serves them well throughout life. 40
A.Life’s goal is determined by how much one earns.
B.They are aware that fortune isn’t necessarily equal to happiness.
C.Limited access to healthcare highlights the importance of wellness.
D.These connections provide emotional support that money simply can’t buy.
E.Even if they eventually achieve financial stability, it stays with them forever.
F.Those with limited resources understand that richness isn’t defined by money.
G.According to an article, one can never achieve success by valuing non-material aspects.

Jane had a deep affection for birds. Every morning, she scattered (抛撒) seeds in her backyard and whispered, “Good morning, my little friends!” To her, their songs sounded like cheerful laughter, and she often laughed along with them.
However, her neighbor, Mr. Thompson, didn’t share her joy. He was constantly annoyed by the birds that flew into his yard. “They’re too noisy!” he complained. “And they make such a mess in MY yard!” His sharp words made Jane feel quite uneasy, yet she refused to give up on her feathered friends. She firmly believed that every small creature deserved care.
One morning, Jane discovered a small sparrow (麻雀) shaking under the fence. One of its wings looked bent at a painful angle. Filled with worry, Jane carefully picked it up and named it Pip. She placed him in a small, warm basket in a safe corner right next to the fence.
A week passed. Pip was getting better but still unable to fly. One afternoon, while Jane was feeding Pip by the fence, Mr. Thompson shouted from his side, “You’re just asking for trouble!” Jane gently lifted Pip in her hands so Mr. Thompson could see him through the gaps in the fence. “Look, Mr. Thompson. Pip’s wing is hurt.” Mr. Thompson cast an impatient glance at the tiny creature. For a moment, his frown (皱眉) softened. “That wing...” he said softly, almost to himself.
Just then, Jane’s mother called her from the driveway, saying they were leaving for a family visit. Jane waved a quick goodbye to Pip and hurried to the car. However, on their way home, a heavy storm broke out. Watching the trees shaking in the strong wind, Jane felt very worried about Pip, who was left all alone in the yard. The moment they pulled into the driveway, she dashed toward the backyard, calling Pip’s name.

W: Bill, I have to say sorry to you. I accidentally spilled coffee on the novel you lent me. I’ve already ordered you a copy. The package should arrive tomorrow.
M: You didn’t have to do that, but I appreciate it.
2.B
W: Watch out! The soup is boiling over. You always take business calls while cooking.
M: No worries, I just turned off the stove. Could you handle dinner tonight? I’ve got an urgent document to review.
W: Sure, I’ll take care of it.
3.C
W: Sometimes I get sleepy while sitting behind the wheel.
M: Same here. I usually refresh myself with strong coffee.
W: Nothing helps more than singing along to my favorite songs.
4.C
M: Alice, are you making tea? There is a smell of lilies.
W: Well, I added some dried lily bulbs to the pot. They’re good for lungs and can calm the mind. Want to try some?
M: Really? Sure!
5.A
W: I have been watching Sudirman Cup on TV recently. The badminton players moved with incredible speed and precision. I wish I could do that.
M: Well, it’s never too late to learn. I’ve just signed up for painting lessons.
6.A 7.C
W: Hey, Jake! I’ve heard you’re taking a gap year before entering college.
M: Yeah! I’ve always wanted to experience different cultures, meet new people, and see places beyond textbooks.
W: I’m also considering taking a gap year, but I’m not sure what to do.
M: You can explore your interests, do some volunteer work, or even learn a new skill. It’s a great time to discover yourself before starting your college life.
W: Sounds amazing! Thanks for the inspiration!
8.A 9.B 10.C
M: Katie, what are you doing?
W: Surfing the Internet. There is growing concern about AI tools like ChatGPT harming education. I’m afraid if students rely too much on AI, they may lose critical thinking skills.
M: I beg to differ. Most students use AI tools to gather information, finish assignments faster and get better grades.
W: Don’t you think using AI in schoolwork is cheating?
M: I don’t think that there’s a black and white answer. Using AI to gather information or come up with a study guide is a fantastic way to save students a lot of time.
W: I seldom encourage my students to use AI. They need to develop problem-solving skills.
M: True, but it’s more about how we apply these technologies. Take calculators for example, they didn’t kill math. They just changed what we focus on. AI won’t disappear, so instead of fighting it, we should teach students how to use it wisely.
11.C 12.A 13.B
M: Well, Miss Lipman, tell me about yourself.
W: I’ve just graduated from Suan Dusit University with a degree in Business English. During the summer breaks, I worked as a hotel clerk.
M: Why are you interested in this position?
W: Well, I want to pursue a career related to my major. It would allow me to contact the overseas customers. It seems like this job matches my qualifications.
M: The customer service agent will not only manage customer service inquiries, but also maintain customer relationships and solve complaints. Are you comfortable handling difficult situations?
W: Yes, I believe so. In my part-time job, I dealt with various customer requests and occasional complaints. I learned to stay calm, listen carefully, and find solutions to ensure customer satisfaction.
M: That’s good to hear. Do you have any questions about the position, such as the salary or training process?
W: Yes, could you tell me about the team I’d be working with?

W: Zerin, I heard that you had lived in Kunming for a long time before moving to Shanghai.
M: I first came to Kunming in September 2019 and lived there for 4 years before moving here for my studies.
W: I see. Kunming is called the “Spring City” of China, right?
M: Yes. You know, I’m from a city in Manipur, northeast India. Manipur and Yunnan have historical ties through the ancient Tea and Horse Road, a trade route that connected our regions. From a young age, I would listen to my father’s stories of trade and the historical ties between the two regions.
W: What was your first impression of Kunming?
M: Before arriving, I only knew a little about Kunming. I learned about the city mostly from some online videos showing its rural charm. But Kunming surprised me — it was well-developed, organized and full of life.
W: Seeing is believing. Did you find any cultural connections between your hometown and Yunnan?
M: Yes! As a Manipuri classical dancer, I was attracted by Yunnan’s diverse ethnic cultures. More than 20 of China’s 56 ethnic groups live there. I learned so much about their music, dance, clothing, and traditions.
W: You’re now in Shanghai. Do you miss Kunming?
M: Absolutely! It has become my second home.

Hi everyone. This is the monthly meeting of our club. We’ve been fortunate to have got good advice from some famous athletes on how to improve our skills and build up our body. Today we’ll hear something different. We’re honored to have Emma Wilson here. Emma is a health expert and lecturer from UBC, the University of British Columbia. Emma worked for a football team in Manchester, then for a very successful rugby team in Dublin, and finally ended up working here in Vancouver. Emma says it’s challenging to be a health expert because people can be easily influenced by advertisements that lack scientific support. Also, people aren’t willing to change their views about food and nutrition as there is so much confusing information online. It’s really important to hear what experts say, and that's why we’ve invited Emma here. She isn’t going to tell us about everything we should eat, but she will teach us to make better choices. Let’s welcome Emma Wilson.

根据第三段“Post-show-meet and greets with the cast (全体演员) and crew for kids’ Q&A about the performance.(演出结束后与全体演员和工作人员进行交流互动,为孩子们解答关于演出的问题)”可知,在KNOB项目中,《了不起的盖茨比》与演员们的互动。故选A。
根据“Main Floor:$110(主楼层:每人110美元)”以及“Buy 1 adult ticket, get 1 free kid’s ticket (aged 18& under). An additional 10% service fee will be added to each ticket.(购买一张成人票,即可免费获得一张儿童票(18 岁及以下)。每张票还将额外收取10%的服务费)”可知,一对夫妇和他们16岁的儿子要预订最靠前的座位需要支付110×2+220×10% =242美元。故选C。
23.细节理解题。根据最后一段“You can applaud at the end of songs, scenes, or acts; if unsure, follow the audience.(在歌曲、场景或表演结束时,你可以鼓掌;如果不确定是否应该鼓掌,就按照观众的反应行事)”可知,在不同场景之间鼓掌在剧院是被允许的。

根据第一段“yet one concern stood apart: a fear that it would be tough to fit in with the new eating pattern(但有一件事却格外引人关注:他担心自己很难适应新的饮食习惯)”可知,他最初最特别的担忧是无法适应当地的饮食习惯。故选B。
根据第二段中“He just pointed to a golden cake, and the baker, a woman named Sylvie, stopped for a moment and then served him in silence. When Junji paid, he said, “Thanks!” Sylvie replied with a phrase “S’il vous plaît”. (他只是指着一块金黄色的蛋糕,面包师一位名叫Sylvie的女士停顿了一下,然后默默地为他服务。当俊吉付款时,他说道:“谢谢!”Sylvie则回答了一句“S’il vous plaît”。)”可知,在面包店的场景中,俊吉只是指了指蛋糕,付钱时说了“Thanks”,面包师用“S’il vous plaît”(请)回应,这暗示俊吉缺少了基本的问候。结合后文“Moreau explained that in France, entering a home or beginning a conversation without the formality of “Bonjour” was often viewed not as a simple mistake, but as disrespect.(莫罗解释说,在法国,如果在进入某人家中或开始交谈时没有以“你好”这样的礼节性问候开场,人们往往不会将其视为一个简单的错误,而是认为这是一种不尊重的表现)”莫罗夫人对“Bonjour”重要性的解释,可以推断他的错误在于没有用“Bonjour”等正式用语问候面包师。故选C。
根据第三段中“Junji, wanting to be polite, declined with a wave of his hand, a gesture he considered perfectly friendly. Gaston seemed taken aback and grew so awkward.(俊吉出于礼貌,挥手拒绝了,他认为这个动作表现得非常友好。加斯顿显得很惊讶,变得非常尴尬)”以及莫罗夫人的解释“Later, Moreau explained that dealing with such an offer from an elder like that could be misinterpreted as rejecting friendship and community.(后来,莫罗解释说,面对像这样来自长辈的提议,可能会被误解为拒绝建立友谊和社区关系)”可知,加斯顿尴尬是因为俊吉拒绝了他分享酒的好意,这在当地文化中被视为拒绝友谊。故选D。
根据全文内容,结合最后一段“It was then that Junji understood. His challenge was about decoding a whole new set of unwritten rules. He realized that learning to read the hidden intentions that floated beneath the surface of every interaction was crucial.(就在那时,俊吉明白了。他的挑战在于解读一系列全新的不成文规则。他意识到,学会解读每一项互动背后潜藏的意图是至关重要的)”可知,俊吉的经历说明了由于不了解当地的文化规范(如何问候、如何回应邀请),导致了误解和尴尬。这最直接地表明了文化差异对人际交流的影响。故选A。

根据第一段“Scientists now believe we may not have fully understood how much pollution these fires cause. A study reported in Environmental Science & Technology shows that wildfires around the world likely produce far more gases that harm air quality than earlier studies had suggested.(如今,科学家们认为我们可能尚未完全了解这些火灾所造成的污染程度。
根据第三段“The team first analyzed a global database of burnt land from 1997 to 2023. Then they collected information about the chemicals released when different plants burn. When they could not get direct measurements from real fires, they used lab experiments to estimate the chemicals produced. By putting all this information together, they worked out yearly worldwide wildfire emissions (排放).(该团队首先分析了1997年至2023年全球范围内的烧毁土地数据库。然后,他们收集了不同植物燃烧时释放出的化学物质的相关信息。当无法从实际火灾中获得直接测量数据时,他们通过实验室实验来估算所产生的化学物质。将所有这些信息汇总起来后,他们计算出了全球每年的野火排放量)”可知,王舒晓团队所开展的研究是全面且基于数据的。故选A。
根据最后一段“The team also found that although human activities produce more pollution overall, both wildfires and human activities release similar amounts of IVOCs and SVOCs. This finding highlights the greater-than-expected role of wildfires, particularly through IVOC and SVOC emissions, in reducing air quality. Different plans are needed to reduce pollution from both wildfires and human activities.(该团队还发现,尽管人类活动总体上造成了更多的污染,但野火和人类活动所释放的 IVOCs(中等挥发性有机化合物)和 SVOCs(半挥发性有机化合物)的量是相当的。这一发现凸显了野火在降低空气质量方面所起的作用超出预期,尤其是通过 IVOC 和 SVOC 的排放来实现的。需要制定不同的计划来减少来自野火和人类活动的污染)”可知,火灾与人类活动都需要减少排放。故选B。

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要探讨人工记忆与外部存储技术的发展,以及其对人类记忆和生活体验的利弊影响。
32.推理判断题。根据第一段“You have no reason to commit phone numbers to memory: it’s just there in your phone. Or perhaps you once had a phone book to store them. In either case, an object does the remembering for you.(你完全没有必要把电话号码记在脑子里:它们就在你的手机里呢。或者也许你曾经有过一本电话簿来存放这些号码。不管怎样,一个设备会替你完成记忆的工作)”可知,人们现在更依赖工具来储存信息、帮助记忆。故选A。
根据划线词上文“The storage capacity of the human brain has since been(人类大脑的存储容量一直以来都……)”以及后文“No wonder, then, that we’re increasingly dependent on memory prostheses, from libraries to smartphones.(难怪我们越来越依赖记忆辅助工具,从图书馆到智能手机皆是如此)”可知,我们依赖记忆辅助工具是因为人类大脑的存储容量不足。
根据第三段“As technologies such as printing and photography become more affordable, sharing experiences with others is easier than ever. So every breakfast, every sunset, every encounter with a cat finds its way on to social media. And here comes the worry. When we devote ourselves to capturing and sharing the world in this way, something immensely valuable is lost; when recording so much of our lives, we’re forgetting to actually live them, and so disconnect ourselves from experience.(随着印刷术和摄影技术变得越来越普及,与他人分享经历变得比以往任何时候都更加容易。

39.下文“Individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds often witness how poor health can worsen financial struggles. They value healthy habits and recognize the importance of being well more. Investing in health becomes a fundamental principle, as it enables individuals to pursue goals and experience life fully. (来自弱势背景的人经常目睹健康状况不佳如何加剧经济困难。他们重视健康的习惯,并更加认识到健康的重要性。投资健康成为一项基本原则,因为它使个人能够追求目标并充分体验生活。)”说明来自弱势背景的人重视健康,C项“有限的医疗保健突显了健康的重要性。”符合题意,引出下文对健康的重视。故选C。
40.上文“This adaptability is a skill that serves them well throughout life. (这种适应能力是一种在他们一生中都很有用的技能。)”说明这种适应能力是一种在他们一生中都很有用的技能,E项“即使他们最终实现了财务稳定,这种稳定也将永远伴随着他们。”中的“it”指代上文的“This adaptability”,承接上文,总结这种成长收获的长久价值,收尾自然。故选E。

Dear Student Union,
I am writing to apply for the position of Student Sports Promotion Ambassador. Learning from China National Radio that 80% of Chinese teenagers lack enough exercise, I’m eager to respond to the “Sunshine Sports” call and help my peers build a healthy exercise habit.
My plan for micro-exercise between classes is simple but practical. During the 10-minute break, I’ll lead short group activities like stretching, skipping rope or quick yoga poses in the classroom or corridor. These activities take little space and time, fitting perfectly into the break. They can not only refresh our minds for the next class but also gradually improve our physical fitness.
I sincerely hope to get this chance. I’ll spare no effort to encourage more students to join the micro-exercise and make it a daily routine.
Sincerely,
Li Jin

To her horror, the basket was empty. Jane’s heart sank as she hurriedly searched the yard, her voice trembling with fear as she called Pip’s name. Tears welled up in her eyes as she imagined the worst, fearing that Pip might have been blown away by the storm or hurt by the falling branches. She knelt down, scanning the ground for any sign of the little sparrow, her hands shaking as she picked up twigs and leaves.
At this moment, Mr. Thompson appeared with Pip. He held the sparrow gently in his hands, his expression a mix of concern and embarrassment. “I found him hiding under my porch,” he said, his voice softer than usual. “The storm was too strong for him.” Jane rushed over, tears of relief streaming down her face as she took Pip back. She looked up at Mr. Thompson, her eyes shining with gratitude. “Thank you.” she whispered, her heart overflowing with joy and newfound respect for her neighbor.
行为类:①颤抖:tremble/shiver ②涌出:well up/spring up ③浏览:scan/look through
情绪类:①恐惧:fear/dread ②宽慰:relief/comfort
