Artist Craig Greco was watching Super Bowl nervously. But while most people focused on the football, Greco’s eyes were fixed on the kicker’s shoes. After all, they had a custom design he had created for the big game.
Painted in layers of bright gold and red, the shoes showed Greco’s skill in color composition — made even more amazing by the fact that the artist is color blind. Greco doesn’t let his color blindness limit his creativity, however. Instead, he bravely challenges himself to create one-of-a-kind artworks that bring joy to everyday objects.
Greco’s path to becoming an artist is unusual. Though interested in art as a kid, he couldn’t see colors the way others could. He had a form of color blindness where reds and greens look like shades of brown and yellow. As he grew older, he put aside his artistic dream, yet something was always missing.
It was an unfulfilling job and an inspiring e-mail that reignited his creativity. Through a work email, he learned about a 3D chalk artist whose detailed drawings pushed him to start his own art journey. With new purpose, he taught himself art basics. He studied drawings, took online classes, and asked famous artists for advice. He also learned to match colors using formulas to make sure the color was always right, even if he couldn’t see it. Within six months, he was creating his own artworks and receiving commissions.
As his skills grew, so did his confidence. A lifelong Chiefs fan, he decided to contact players on social media, asking if he could paint their game-day shoes. Kicker Harrison Butker was the first to accept his offer. Because NFL players can be fined for wearing the wrong color, Greco had to do complex color matching to make sure the shoes were exactly the right shades. His attention to detail paid off, and soon other players joined Team Greco.
Greco believes artists can bring out passion through painting. “It’s an opportunity to bring happiness and life to an otherwise boring object,” he said.
While still creating custom shoes for players, Greco continues to expand his range, painting unique artworks on everything from roller skates to table tops. His advice to young artists: “See what you like, and when you find your passion, dive into it headfirst and don’t look back.”
24.Why did Craig Greco watch the Super Bowl so closely?
A.To check the color of his shoes.
B.To see his artwork on TV.
C.To support his favorite team.
D.To learn from professional players.
25.What does the author mean by saying Greco’s path was “unusual” in paragraph 3?
A.He started his art career very late in life.
B.He succeeded despite a visual disability.
C.He never received any formal art training.
D.He only painted on unconventional objects.
26.What can we infer about Greco from the way he learned to paint?
A.He valued practice over theory.
B.He preferred working alone.
C.He found creative ways to overcome limits.
D.He relied on talent more than effort.
27.What does Greco suggest young artists do in the last paragraph?
A.Paint on a wide variety of objects.
B.Find their passion and pursue it fully.
C.Learn from successful football players.
D.Focus on bringing joy to everyday items.

Researchers have studied changes to mealtimes(吃饭时间) in older adults. They found that people experience gradual shifts (改变) as they age (变老), and these changes may show important information about their health.
Lead researcher Hassan Dashti suggested that mealtime changes, especially in breakfast, can be a simple sign of a person’s health. He said that doctors and patients should use changes in mealtime routines as early warnings of hidden (隐藏的) physical or mental problems. He also noted that keeping a regular (有规律的) eating schedule may support healthy aging and longer life.
To explore this idea, the team studied 2,945 adults in the UK, aged 42 to 94, who were followed for more than 20 years. They collected health data and blood samples (样本) to see how the mealtime might relate to health problems. They found that as older adults age, they tend to eat meals especially breakfast and dinner later during the day, while also narrowing the overall time window in which they eat each day.
Later breakfast times were strongly related to some health problems such as extreme sadness, low energy, poor sleep, and trouble preparing meals. People who ate later were also more likely to have oral health problems. Most importantly, later breakfast was connected with a higher risk of death. The researchers also found that people who were naturally “night owls” (preferring later sleep and wake times) tended to eat meals at later times.
“Up until now, we have had a limited (有限的) insight into how the mealtime develops later in life and how this change relates to overall health and longevity,” said Dashti. “Our findings help fill that gap by showing that later mealtimes, especially a later breakfast, are tied to both health challenges and increased death risk in older adults. These results add new meaning to the saying that ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’, especially for older adults.”
28.What did Dashti suggest about mealtime changes?
A.They usually have no clear reasons. B.They depend mainly on sleeping habits.
C.They can show signs of a person’s health. D.They are common among young people.
29.What did the researchers find about older adults according to Paragraph 3?
A.They have more food each day. B.They miss breakfast more often.
C.They take longer time over meals. D.They eat meals later during the day.
30.What can be inferred about people who eat breakfast late?
A.They tend to live longer lives. B.They usually feel more energetic.
C.They are less likely to stay up. D.They may face some health problems.
31.Which word can best describe the results of the study?
A.Disappointing. B.Uncertain. C.Helpful. D.Unexpected.
D
The search for beauty spans centuries. Paintings of Egyptians dating back to 4,000 years show both men and women painting their nails and wearing makeup. In 18th-century France, wealthy noblemen wore large wigs (假发) of long, white hair to make themselves attractive. Today, people continue to devote a lot of time and money to their appearance.
There is at least one good reason for the desire (渴望) to be attractive: beauty is power. Studies suggest that good-looking people make more money, get called on more often in class, and are regarded as friendlier.
But what exactly is beauty? It’s difficult to describe it clearly, and yet we know it when we see it. And our awareness of it may start at a very early age. In one set of studies, six-month-old babies were shown a series of photographs. The faces on the pictures had been rated for attractiveness by a group of college students. In the studies, the babies spent more time looking at the attractive faces than the unattractive ones.
The idea that even babies can judge appearance makes perfect sense to many researchers. In studies by psychologists (心理学家) , men show a preference for women with larger eyes, fuller lips, and a smaller nose and chin while women prefer men with large shoulders and a narrow waist. According to scientists, the mind unconsciously (无意识地) tells men and women that these features — the full lips, clear skin, strong shoulders — equal health and genetic well-being.
Not everyone thinks the same way. What is considered attractive in one culture might not be in another. Look at most Western fashion magazines: the women on the pages are thin, but is this “perfect” body type for women worldwide? Scientists’ answer is no; what is considered beautiful is subjective and changes around the world. They found native peoples in southeast Peru preferred shapes regarded overweight in Western cultures.
For better or worse, beauty plays a role in our lives. But it is extremely difficult to describe exactly what makes one person attractive to another. Although there do seem to be certain physical features considered universally attractive, it is also true that beauty does not always keep to a single, uniform standard. Beauty really is, as the saying goes, in the eye of the beholder (观看者).
32.People’s ideas about beauty ________.
A.can be easily described
B.are based upon strict standard
C.have existed since ancient times
D.have little influence on a person’s success
33.In Paragraph 3, the babies in the study ________.
A.were rated for their appearance
B.showed a preference for women with larger eyes
C.were shown photos of a group of college students
D.were able to tell attractive faces from unattractive ones
34.We can learn from the passage that ________.
A.the ideas of beauty change as people grow up
B.the standards for beauty are based on scientific researches
C.the search for beauty is the power to inspire the beholder
D.the understanding of beauty is rooted in cultural backgrounds
35.What can probably be the best title for this passage?
A.The History of Beauty B.The Mystery of Beauty
C.The Standards for Beauty D.The Attitudes toward Beauty
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Many people struggle with perfectionism in their daily life, firmly convinced that struggling for perfection is the only path to lasting success and recognition. 36 In the long run, it gradually gives rise to overwhelming pressure, constant self-doubt and even a fear of taking risks that may limit personal development.
To free yourself from the control of perfectionism, you should adjust your mindset fundamentally. 37 On the contrary, recognize that errors are unavoidable stepping stones that fuel growth and progress, and making mistakes never weakens your personal worth.
38 Not every assignment or detail deserves your full energy and pursuit of perfection. Direct your time and energy only to truly significant matters. By doing so, you can avoid wasting efforts on unimportant things and concentrate on tasks that bring real value.
Setting practical and achievable goals is another effective strategy worth applying. 39 Goals that are out of reach will only bring repeated frustration, while down-to-earth goals bring a steady sense of accomplishment and motivation.
Last but not least, practice gentle self-talk and self-acceptance. When you face failures or imperfections, speak to yourself the way you would comfort a close friend. 40 Critical and sharp self-judgment only tears down your confidence, while self-compassion builds inner strength.
Letting go of perfectionism is not a one-time change but a long-term journey. With consistent efforts and patience, you will gradually embrace a more relaxed and authentic life.
A.Make sure they are actually possible to attain.
B.This rigid and extreme mindset can do more harm than good.
C.Chasing perfect results in everything is the key to excellence.
D.Quit the fixed belief that you have to be faultless at all times.
E.Master the skill of prioritizing tasks efficiently amid a busy schedule.
F.Ignore the mistakes your friend has made and pretend they never exist.
G.Remind yourself that you would not criticize a friend for small setbacks.

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My name is Mae. I’ve always been passionate about exploring and solving problems — whether fixing a broken toy or figuring out how a phone app works. This led me to join our school’s Coding (编程) Club. In our first lesson, Ms. Davis told us that coding is more than writing lines of code. It is about using technology to make life easier for others.
“Your project,” she announced in class one day, “is to create a simple app that solves a real-life problem.” “You have one week to prepare,” She added gently, hoping this would give us enough time to find inspiration and finish the project.
The challenge stayed with me as I walked to my neighbor Mrs. Thompson’s apartment after school. She had invited me for tea, as she often did on Tuesdays. Mrs. Thompson was kind and cheerful, but lately she had been a little forgetful, often misplacing her keys or repeating the same story twice without realizing it. When I arrived, she was in the kitchen.
“Mae! Good timing,” she greeted me warmly, and then stopped, glancing at the kettle. “Did I already boil water for tea?”
I checked the kettle — it was still warm. We laughed about it as I poured water, and soon we were chatting. Our conversation turned to her weekly book club with friends. Mrs. Thompson smiled, talking about her two old friends. Mr. Brown arrived late for the game, and Mrs. Smith failed to bring her glasses twice. “We’re quite a group,” she said.
Then her expression grew thoughtful. “We manage, of course. But sometimes I think wouldn’t it be nice if something simply reminds us? Take medicine. Water the plants. Friday for book club.” She tapped her head with a soft laugh.
Her words sank in. At that moment, an idea formed in my mind. As I stood up to leave, I smiled mysteriously, “Give me a few days, and I’ll bring you a little surprise.”
“Oh? I’ll try not to forget that,” she laughed.

根据第一段“But while most people focused on the football, Greco’s eyes were fixed on the kicker’s shoes. After all, they had a custom design he had created for the big game.(不过,当大多数人的目光都聚焦在橄榄球上时,格雷科的眼睛却紧紧盯着踢球者的球鞋。毕竟,那双球鞋上有着他专为这场大赛设计的定制图案。)”可知,Greco紧盯球鞋是因为上面的图案是他设计的,即他关注超级碗是为了在电视上看到自己的作品。故选B。
25.推理判断题。根据第三段“Though interested in art as a kid, he couldn’t see colors the way others could. He had a form of color blindness where reds and greens look like shades of brown and yellow.(尽管他从小就对艺术感兴趣,但却无法像其他人一样分辨色彩。他患有一种色盲症,红色和绿色在他眼中都呈现为棕色和黄色的不同深浅。)”以及后文他最终成为艺术家的经历可知,作者说Greco的道路“unusual”是指他尽管有色盲这一视觉障碍,却依然成为了艺术家。选项B“He succeeded despite a visual disability.(他尽管有视觉障碍却取得了成功。)”准确概括了这层含义。故选B。
26.推理判断题。根据第四段“He studied drawings, took online classes, and asked famous artists for advice. He also learned to match colors using formulas to make sure the color was always right, even if he couldn’t see it.(他研习画作,参加线上课程,并向知名艺术家请教。他还学会了运用公式来调配颜色,以确保即便自己无法亲眼看到,颜色也总是准确无误。)”可知,Greco面对色盲的局限,积极寻找各种方法解决问题:研究画作、上网课、请教名家、用公式配颜色。这些都体现了他找到了突破限制的创新方法。故选C。
27.细节理解题。根据最后一段Greco对年轻艺术家的建议“See what you like, and when you find your passion, dive into it headfirst and don’t look back.(看看自己喜欢什么,一旦找到了热爱之事,就全身心投入其中,勇往直前,永不回头。)”可知,他建议年轻人找到自己热爱的事物,然后全力以赴地去追求。故选B。

【答案】 That night, I sat at my desk, notebook open and mind racing with details. I decided to design a gentle reminder app especially for the elderly. I listed simple functions: important dates, daily tasks, and warm notes. I focused on making the words big and the buttons easy to touch. Whenever I felt stuck, I thought of Mrs. Thompson’s kind smile and her wish for something to help her remember. I carefully tested every part again and again, making sure it was simple and helpful. Deep in my heart, I hoped this little app could bring convenience and warmth to her and more elderly people.
A week later, I presented my project to Ms. Davis. I introduced the app’s purpose and showed how it worked. Ms. Davis praised my thoughtful idea and spoke highly of my project. After class, I brought the app to Mrs. Thompson. She was delighted and tried it at once. “This is exactly what I need,” she said happily.
