The sport taught him valuable lessons, and the most important one for him is to hold respect in heart. After returning to base camp (大本营), Li Haorong kowtowed (叩头) toward the mountain three times to express his thanks to Qomolangma for allowing him to reach the summit safely and for teaching him so much. The climb took place during the first spring mountaineering season. After he reached base camp, he took training to get himself ready for the special environment. And he climbed from 5,200 metres to 7,028 metres at Camp 1. Thanks to a fine spring “weather window”, the team began their summit push from base camp on Sunday. The training and strong friendship helped them keep forward. Some of his members reached the top between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. The spring weather on the mountain remains changeable and risky. Sudden temperature drops, snowfall and snow can make the climb dangerous, and there is the risk of falling rocks during the climb. However, it’s important to be true to ourselves and learn to say “no” — we call it setting boundaries (边界). Setting boundaries is being honest and respectful about what you like and dislike. Dr. Rekha Vara, a mental (心理的) health professor, explains that you can think of boundaries as a range (范围). Vara says, “The middle of this range is the healthy space. That’s the best. It’s not good to avoid getting close to people. And it’s not healthy if you want to make everyone happy.” Setting boundaries allows you to “protect” yourself. They help you feel safe and respected. If you don’t have boundaries, some people may take advantage of you because they don’t know or understand what is and isn’t acceptable. Vara says pleasing other people “can become a habit” and then they expect you to do what they want every time. You don’t even have to explain your boundaries — there’s nothing wrong with saying “no”. What’s more, setting boundaries teaches us to respect others’ limits (限度) and build healthy relationships. Everyone’s boundaries are different and that’s OK. Vara says,“You might not care too much about seeing the film your friend picked because you enjoy being with your friends. Another friend might choose not to come because they do mind the film choice. Keep a balance in relationships — be open to others and protect yourself.” 36.How does the writer start the text? A.By telling stories. B.By showing something in common. C.By using a saying. D.By asking questions. 37.Which of the following can show “the healthy space” in Paragraph 2? (x= boundaries, y= mental health) A. B. C. D. 38.Which of the following may help to set healthy boundaries? A.It’s all up to you, and I will do whatever you want. B.I like this film, so you have to watch it with me. C.That sounds fun for you, but I’m not comfortable with that. D.We have different ideas about this and that’s not OK. 39.What does Dr. Rekha Vara warn about if someone keeps pleasing others? A.They may lose the ability to make their own choices. B.They will find it harder to make true friends. C.It can make them feel unsafe and disrespected. D.It may become a habit that others will want you to do it every time. 40.Which would be the best title for the text? The team also faced a snowstorm at 8,700 metres near the First, Second and Third Steps. The team couldn’t see things clearly, and conditions became very hazardous. But with their strength and teamwork, the group safely pushed through and finished the climb. 31.Which of the following can we put in “▲” in Paragraph 1? D.By taking food. 34.What does the underlined word “hazardous” in the last paragraph mean? A.Interesting. B.Dangerous. C.Friendly. D.Unusual. 35.What is the passage about? A.A 17-year-old student’s climb to the Mount Qomolangma. B.A boy’s love for mountaineering. C.A terrible journey to the Mount Qomolangma. D.A team’s great spirits during a climb. C We all want others to like us, and sometimes we may do things against our will just to please others. B Li Haorong, a 17-year-old student from Beijing, reached the summit (山顶) of the world’s highest peak, Mount Qomolangma in Xizang at 6:47 a.m. on 25th May, 2025. ▲ The teenager began his mountaineering (登山活动) journey in January 2023. A.He became the first Chinese high school student to finish the challenge. B.He believed in himself and searched for information about the mountain. C.He is a key player on the school football team and enjoys basketball and skiing. D.He also founded a club to share his love for hiking with others. 32.Which words can best describe Li Haorong? A.Confident and hard-working. B.Brave and curious about geography. C.Determined and thankful to nature. D.Positive and outgoing. 33.How did Li Haorong prepare for the special environment of the mountain? A.By asking for help. B.By taking training. C.By reading a guide.
