In the middle of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, Amanda Barrows carefully placed a wooden nightstand (床头柜). It went with a sign reading, “Take a poem, leave a poem.”
So far, more than 100 poems have come in. “It’s completely unexpected,” said Barrows. “I’m really impressed by the support.”
A park manager by day and a poet by night, Barrows joined a Poetry for the People class at City College of San Francisco (CCSF). Students were asked to find a way to “bring poetry into the community” as their final project.
In the beginning, Barrows struggled to land on an idea. Eventually, though, it struck her that she could bring together her two worlds—parks and poetry. A neighbour offered a weathered nightstand, which Barrows thought would be perfect for her project. She could fill the nightstand with fresh paper and pens and add a box at the bottom for poems.
The idea reminded her of Little Free Libraries, which were known for the bookstands placed across the city. “I was inspired by the little free libraries, where you ‘take a book, leave a book’. And I thought, ‘Maybe I could do this with poetry.’” said Barrows. Since she only had one nightstand to work with, Barrows decided that she would leave it in a park for four days before moving it to a new location. Barrows’s goal is to bring the poetry nightstand to all of them.
Since the Poetry Nightstand project started, people have donated many poems. Barrows has shared them on social media. “It is a community project,” Barrows said. “It belongs to all.”
Her poetry class teacher, Lauren Muller, commented, “people need poetry now”, which might be the reason for the success of Barrows’s project.
19.Why did Barrows start her project?
A.To share her own poems. B.To apply for a poetry class.
C.To encourage young poets. D.To complete a required task.
20.How did PNP differ from Little Free Libraries?
A.It wasn’t well-received by the public. B.It wasn’t fixed on a specific site.
C.It covered different types of writings. D.It was only open to local people.
21.What did Muller think contributed to the success of PNP?
A.The donation of social media. B.The public’s demand for poetry.
C.The help from her neighbors. D.The support from the city parks.
22.Which word can best describe Barrows?
A.Brave. B.Talented. C.Creative. D.Generous.
19.第三段指出:“Students were asked to find a way to ‘bring poetry into the community’ as their final project.”,表明学生们被要求找到一种“将诗歌带入社区”的方式作为他们的最终项目,Barrows参加这门课,因此她开始这个项目是为了完成课程要求的任务。
20.第五段中,Barrows提到Little Free Libraries的特点是“bookstands placed across the city”,书架放置在城市各处,通常是固定的,而她的项目只有一个床头柜,因此她决定“leave it in a park for four days before moving it to a new location”,在一个公园放置四天,然后移到一个新地点,说明PNP不是固定在一个地方。

Yingge dance, a mix of drama, dance and martial arts (武术), is a Chinese national intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) and is very popular in Chaoshan, Guangdong Province. Over a century ago, some Chinese people brought the dance to Thailand (泰国), and it has become an important local cultural symbol, deeply rooted in Thai society ever since.
From February 28 to March 1, 2026, the second Phanat Nikhom Yingge Dance Festival was held in Chonburi, Thailand. Seven teams took part in it, including one from Puning, Guangdong and three local Thai teams. The local government hopes the festival can help with cultural exchanges between China and Thailand. What’s more, Yingge dance has even been added to local school courses to pass on this cultural art.
Chinese and Thai performers danced together in the streets of the city. The Chinese Nigou Yingge Team, with about 40 members, came to Thailand for the first time. The team’s coach said it was a valuable chance for Chinese and Thai performers to learn from each other.
A team member with 15 years of experience in Yingge dance was deeply moved by the Thai performers’ strong interest and love for this art form. They talked a lot about face painting and performing skills, even without a common language.
The lively performance drew many local people and tourists. A 17-year-old Thai performer said he was happy to see so many people coming to watch. A local person said Yingge dance has become one of the most famous traditional arts in her hometown. A Chinese visitor from Shantou felt warm and familiar when watching the dance, as it reminded him of his hometown’s culture.
Chonburi’s governor said the province would make Yingge dance a special cultural symbol of Phanat Nikhom, and use it to develop the local economy (经济) and tourism.

Paper cutting is one of the most traditional folk arts in China, which has a history of more than 1500 years. This art form is simple but full of creativity, and it has been loved by people for generations. However, with the development of modern society, paper cutting is facing the problem of being forgotten by young people. In recent years, Chinese artists and cultural workers have been trying their best to protect and inherit this precious intangible cultural heritage, and the government has also given a lot of support to the development of paper cutting art. In 2006, Chinese paper cutting was included in the first batch of China’s intangible cultural heritage list, and in 2009, it was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list.
Most paper cutting works are made of red paper, because red stands for joy and good luck in Chinese culture. The tools for paper cutting are very simple—usually a pair of scissors or a carving knife. First, the artist draws the pattern on the red paper, and then cuts or carves the paper according to the pattern. The patterns of paper cutting are various, including animals, plants, figures, auspicious symbols and traditional stories. Skilled paper cutting artists can cut complex patterns without drawing them first, and their hands move quickly and accurately.
Paper cutting artists not only need to have good hand skills, but also need to have a deep understanding of Chinese traditional culture. Because most paper cutting patterns are closely related to traditional customs, festivals and stories, only by understanding the cultural connotation can they create works with soul. Many paper cutting artists are also willing to teach this skill to others, hoping that more people can learn and inherit it.
Zhang Li is a young paper cutting artist who has made great contributions to the inheritance of this art. She has innovated the traditional paper cutting art by combining it with modern elements, such as adding cartoon images and modern life scenes to the paper cutting patterns. She also uses different colors of paper instead of just red paper to make the works more colorful. What’s more, she has opened online courses to teach paper cutting to people all over the country. “Paper cutting is a treasure of Chinese culture. We need to make it keep up with the times so that more young people will love it,” said Zhang Li. “It’s our responsibility to pass on this traditional art to the next generation.”
27.From paragraph 1, we can know that ________.
A.paper cutting has a short history in China
B.paper cutting was added to UNESCO’s heritage list in 2006
C.people are trying to protect and inherit paper cutting art
D.young people today love paper cutting art very much
28.We can learn the ________ of making paper cutting works from paragraph 2.
A.process B.reason C.problem D.influence
29.What has Zhang Li done to innovate paper cutting art?
A.She only uses red paper to make works. B.She combines it with modern elements.
C.She only creates traditional patterns. D.She stops teaching paper cutting online.
30.What’s the best title for this passage?
A.The History of Chinese Folk Arts B.Modern Art in China
C.Protect and Inherit Paper Cutting D.How to Make Paper Cutting Works
【答案】27.C 28.A 29.B 30.C

After finishing his last delivery (送货), truck driver Zhou Qiang took Flight CZ8233 back home for Spring Festival celebrations. He was excited because it was his first time flying on China’s own C919 airplane.
Once on the plane, he couldn’t stop taking pictures to share with his family later. “The seats are really comfortable. 1 I can even cross them,” Zhou said. The flight from Guangzhou to Chengdu cut his travel time from at least seven hours by train to just two and a half hours this year.
2 In the past, many workers rode motorcycles home in the cold, but now more people choose high-speed trains or planes. This is a big difference from about ten years ago when it was common to see workers riding motorcycles from cities like Guangzhou to their hometowns in Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, or Sichuan.
Huang Xiaoyan and her husband were among those who used to ride motorcycles home. They spent 30 hours traveling from Foshan in Guangdong to their village in Guangxi. “It was freezing, especially when it rained. The roads were slippery (湿滑的) and dangerous,” Huang remembered. 3
In 2013, 1.1 million motorcycle trips were recorded during the Spring Festival travel season in Guangdong. But after 2014, the number started to drop as high-speed trains became more common, connecting Guangdong with places like Guizhou and Guangxi. This year, railways are expected to handle (应付) over 510 million passenger trips, an increase of 5.5% from last year. 4
Now fewer people are willing to ride motorcycles home. Over the past three years, Huang and her brother have driven home in his car. “Almost no one I know rides motorcycles home anymore,” Huang added.
A.And there’s lots of space for my legs.
B.And she said the journey was very difficult.
C. Road trips are also expected to reach 7.2 billion.
D.During the festival, there’s a big travel rush in China.
E. Zhou noticed how things have changed over the years.

35.What do you think is the best way to travel around? Why?
【答案】31.A 32.E 33.B 34.C 35. Travelling by bike is the best. Because it’s eco-friendly.
31.根据“‘The seats are really comfortable.’及‘I can even cross them’”可知,此处是在进一步描述飞机座位舒适的具体体现。 故选A。
32.根据“In the past, many workers rode motorcycles home in the cold, but now more people choose high - speed trains or planes.”
33.根据“‘It was freezing, especially when it rained. The roads were slippery (湿滑的) and dangerous,’Huang remembered.”
34.根据“This year, railways are expected to handle (应付) over 510 million passenger trips, an increase of 5.5% from last year.”
Travelling by bike is the best. Because it’s eco-friendly.

The arrival of an “AI Convenience Store” in our neighborhood was a topic of great excitement and some apprehension (忧虑). For tech-savvy youngsters, it was cool: for many elderly residents, it was a daunting (令人却步的) mystery.
I saw Grandma Zhao, a kind lady in her seventies, hesitating outside the store’s automatic door, looking 36 . She wanted to buy some eggs but didn’t know how to enter. I approached her and offered my help. “Don’t worry, Grandma Zhao,” I said, “I can show you how it works.”
The first step was to 37 the QR code with her phone to unlock the door. I guided her hand, and her eyes widened as the door slid open 38 . Inside, I explained that the AI cameras would automatically 39 the items she picked from the shelves. At the exit, the system would 40 calculate the total and charge her Alipay account. After a couple of practice runs, her 42 turned into confidence. She was soon shopping there independently. She gratefully called me her “little tech 43 .” Helping her felt incredibly 44 . It made me realize that technological progress should be 45 , not exclusive. We have a responsibility to ensure that no one, especially the elderly, is 46 behind. I promised to be her go-to helper for any future tech puzzles. This experience taught me that 47 is just as important as innovation.
