Wind is the movement of air. We cannot see it, but we can feel it when air moves fast. Air is made of light and small things such as nitrogen (氮气). When these things move together in the same direction, wind is formed.
Wind mainly comes from the differences of air pressure (压力) on the Earth. Air pressure changes with temperature: warm air goes up while cool air comes down. Wind forms when air moves from places with high pressure to places with low pressure. The Earth’s spin (地球自转) also changes the direction of wind.
To study wind, we need to know its direction and speed. Wind direction tells us where the wind comes from. We use an anemometer (风速仪) to get wind speed, in units like kilometers an hour. There are winds around the whole world and local winds.
Wind is also a kind of clean energy (能源). We can use it to make power. Different from traditional energy, wind energy brings no pollution. So it’s very important for protecting the environment. What’s more, the shapes of land such as mountains and lakes can also change the way local winds blow.

The China International Search and Rescue Team (CISAR) was formed in 2001. It brings help and hope to those whose lives are changed by a storm, an earthquake, or any other natural disaster (灾难).
After long and careful training, the Chinese team went on its first international rescue (救援) tasks in 2002. That year, the team helped save lives after earthquakes in Algeria and Iran. It was the first time that the CISAR had worked outside China, and the team won high praise for the bravery and skill. Since then, the CISAR has completed lots of rescue tasks — they braved terrible conditions to rescue people in Indonesia, Haitti, Pakistan and Nepal.
Rescue workers are trained to find people, treat injuries (伤痛), and hand out food, water, and other things. They have to be able to do difficult work when it is very dangerous. For example, they usually work when there is no electricity or water after a disaster, and there may be diseases and accidents.
Rescue workers get to save lives, but they must also deal with the dead. That means they have to be strong both in body and mind. Rescue workers must have big hearts, too. It takes lots of love and courage to risk their own lives to save someone else’s. The members of the CISAR are always ready to go wherever help is needed.
Rescue workers leave their homes and families for helping and saving others. The job offers no big pay and results in less sleep. We can’t imagine how much they have sacrificed (牺牲) selflessly. We don’t even know most of their names. But they are real heroes!

In the past, many Europeans were afraid of a beautiful red fruit—the tomato. They called it the “poison apple” and believed it could cause illness or even death. This belief was so strong that for nearly 200 years, the tomato was grown only as a decorative (装饰性的) garden plant. Later, brave farmers and cooks discovered its juicy, tasty flesh was perfectly safe. Thanks to explorers and traders, the tomato finally traveled across the world and became a kitchen favorite.
But why was it once considered poisonous (有毒的)? Like apples, the tomato has a secret defense system. Tomatoes belong to the plant family Solanaceae, which also includes potatoes, eggplants, and peppers. Some plants in this family produce a natural chemical called solanine (龙葵素). In tomatoes, solanine is found mainly in the leaves, stems, and green unripe (不成熟的) fruit—not in the ripe red tomato we eat. If eaten in large amounts, solanine can cause headaches or stomach problems. Still, you’d have to eat a whole bowl of green leaves to feel any effect.
Why does the tomato plant produce solanine? Nature designed it for protection! When insects or animals try to eat its leaves, the bitter taste and mild toxicity (毒性) teach them to stay away. That way, the plant can grow healthily and produce more bright red tomatoes.
Don’t worry—the ripe tomato fruit is not only safe but also nutritious. It’s sweet, juicy, and full of vitamins. People now use tomatoes in salads, soups, sauces, and even drinks. It’s one of the most popular fruits in the world today (yes, it’s scientifically a fruit).
So, next time you enjoy ketchup (番茄酱) or a fresh tomato salad, remember: its journey to your table wasn’t always easy. But today, this once “dangerous” fruit has become a delicious and healthy friend.
12.What does the underlined word “defense” mean?
A.The way to grow.
B.The protection from attack.

13.What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A.Solanine makes tomatoes taste sweeter to attract animals.
B.Tomato plants use solanine to defend themselves from insects.
C.Humans can safely eat large amounts of solanine.
14.What does the example of ketchup in the last paragraph mainly try to tell us?
A.Eating ketchup is the best way to enjoy tomatoes.
B.Tomatoes can be made into different kinds of food.
C.People have totally changed their ideas about tomatoes.
15.What does the text mainly tell us?

One recent weekend, I decided to learn how to make jiaozi with my grandmother. I thought it would be fun and easy at the very beginning, but soon it came to me that it wasn’t as simple as it looked.
At first, I didn’t pay attention to the sharp (锋利的) knife while cutting vegetables. My finger got cut because of my carelessness. Luckily, it wasn’t serious. Grandma was nervous, and quickly helped me clean the cut. “My poor little girl! Be careful next time!” said Grandma softly. Through the painful lesson, I learned the hard way that safety should always come first.
After that accident, I continued working with Grandma. We made the dough (面团), mixed the filling, and started shaping the dumplings. However, I kept making mistakes. Some of my dumplings were too thick, others were not properly sealed (封闭), and some even had too much filling, making them difficult to close. It was so discouraging, but Grandma kept encouraging me.
Until noon, we had a plate full of dumplings—some were perfect, and some were a bit messy. Dad ate my ugliest dumpling first. “Tastes better than it looks!” he laughed. Mom encouraged me, “I think ________①__________. I am so proud of you!”
Now I understand that making jiaozi isn’t just about the final product; it is about learning patience, having fun with my family, and improving through mistakes. Mistakes aren’t signs of weakness. Instead, they should be viewed (看待) as stepping stones to achievements.

第一节(共5小题;满分10分)
阅读下面短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题,并将答案写到答题卡的相应位置。
