Sometimes, you may hear people talk about landform and landscape. Are they the same thing? Let’s find out! A landform is a natural feature of the Earth’s surface. Think of big mountains that rise high up, low valleys (山谷) between hills, flat plains that go on and on, and sandy deserts. These are all landforms. They are made by nature over a long, long time. For example, mountains are formed when huge pieces of the Earth’s surface push against (撞) each other. Valleys can be made by rivers cutting through the land little by little. Each landform has a name that tells us what it looks like and how it was formed. Scientists study landforms to learn about the history of the Earth. A landscape, on the other hand, is what you see when you look at an area of land. It includes (包括) landforms, but it also has other things like plants, buildings, and lakes. Imagine standing on top of a hill. You can see green trees waving in the wind, a small village with houses, and a clear lake nearby. All these things together make up the landscape. A landscape can change rapidly. If people build new buildings or cut down a lot of trees, the landscape will look different in just a few months. Let’s take a forest in the mountains as an example. The mountain is the landform — it’s a natural feature of the Earth. But when you see the tall trees, hear the birds singing, and watch a little stream (溪流) running down the mountain, that’s the landscape. So, the key difference is this: landform is about the natural shapes of the Earth, and landscape is about the whole view of an area, including both natural and man-made things. Next time you go on a trip, try to enjoy different landforms and describe (描述) the beautiful landscapes around you! 16.Which of the following is a landform? A.A newly-built bridge. B.A flat plain. C.A group of trees. D.A small house. 17.What can we learn from the text about how mountains are formed? A.They are made by people building up the land. B.They are formed when rivers cut through the land. C.They are formed when the Earth’s plates push into each other. D.They are formed by heavy rain and strong winds. 18.What does the underlined word “rapidly” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Brightly. B.Quickly. C.Powerfully. D.Quietly. 19.What does “landscape” usually include? A.Only landforms. B.Only natural things. C.Just man-made things. D.Landforms, trees, houses and lakes. 20.How does the writer explain the difference between landform and landscape? A.By telling stories. B.By listing numbers. C.By giving examples. D.By asking questions. 【答案】16.B 17.C 18.B 19.D 20.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了地形和景观的区别。 16.细节理解题。根据“Think of big mountains that rise high up, low valleys (山谷) between hills, flat plains that go on and on, and sandy deserts. These are all landforms.”可知,高耸的大山、小山之间的低山谷,连绵不断的平原,还有沙漠,这些都是地形。故选B。 17.细节理解题。根据“mountains are formed when huge pieces of the Earth’s surface push against (撞) each other”可知,山是由地球表面的巨大板块相互推动而形成的。故选C。 18.词义猜测题。根据“If people build new buildings or cut down a lot of trees, the landscape will look different in just a few months.”可知,如果人们建造新的建筑物或砍伐大量的树木,景观将在短短几个月内看起来不同。因此景观的变化很快,rapidly和quickly都表示“快的,迅速的”。故选B。 19.细节理解题。根据“It includes (包括) landforms, but it also has other things like plants, buildings, and lakes.”可知,景观包括地形,但也有其他东西,如植物、建筑物和湖泊。故选D。 20.推理判断题。通读全文,结合文中关键词句“For example”“Let’s take a forest in the mountains as an example.”等可知,作者通过列举很多的事物来解释什么是地形和景观。故选C。 C When Oliver arrived in this hard world, it was very doubtful whether he would live beyond the first three minutes. He lay on a hard little bed and struggled to start breathing. Oliver fought his first battle without much help from the two people present at his birth. One was an old woman, who was nearly always drunk, and the other was a busy local doctor, who was not paid enough to be very interested in Oliver’s survival. However, Oliver managed to draw his first breath and then announced his arrival by crying loudly. His mother raised her pale young face and whispered, “Let me see it.” The doctor turned away from the fire, where he had been warming his hands. He gave her the child. Lovingly, she kissed the baby with her cold white lips, then stared wildly around the room, fell back and died. The doctor began to put on his coat. “The mother was a good-looking girl. Where did she come from?” “She was brought here last night,” replied the old woman. “She was found lying in the street. Where she came from, or what her name was, nobody knows.” The doctor lifted the girl’s left hand. “The old story,” he shook his head. “No wedding ring, I see. Ah! Good night.” And so Oliver was left with only the drunken nurse. He was then sent to a special “baby farm” nearby. There, he and thirty other children rolled around the floor all day, without the inconvenience (不便) of too much food or too much clothing. Mrs. Mann, who “looked after” them, was very experienced. She knew what was “good” for children. She also knew what was good for herself. The board (董事会) responsible (负责) for the orphans (孤儿) sometimes checked on the health of the children, but they always sent Mr. Bumble, a kind local policeman, to announce their visit the day before. So whenever the board arrived, of course, the children were always neat and clean. On Oliver’s ninth birthday, Mr. Bumble came. Through the front window, Mrs. Mann saw him at the gate and turned quickly to the girl who worked with her. “Quick! Take Oliver and those others upstairs to be washed!” she said. Then she ran out to unlock the gate, which was always kept locked. —Oliver Twist 21.How was the weather when Oliver arrived in this hard world? A.Cool. B.Cold. C.Warm. C.It teaches people how to go to Zhangjiajie. D.It talks about the history of Hunan. B When we look at the Earth, we see many different things. C When Oliver arrived in this hard world, it was very doubtful whether he would live beyond the first three minutes. A.Cool. B.Cold. C.Warm. D.Hot. 22.What does the underlined sentence probably mean according to the passage? A.Oliver and other children were taken good care of in the baby farm. B.Oliver and other children had more than enough food or clothing. C.Oliver and other children had no food or clothing at all. D.Oliver and other children didn’t have enough food and clothing. 23.Which is the right order according to the passage? a. Oliver was sent to a special “baby farm” nearby. b. Mrs. Mann ran out to open the gate. c. Oliver lay on a hard little bed and tried his best to start breathing. d. Mr. Bumble came to see Mrs. Mann on Oliver’s ninth birthday. e. Oliver’s mother kissed the baby with her cold white lips. A.cadbe B.ceadb C.ecbda D.ebdac 24.What can we infer from the passage? A.Oliver and other children were always tidy and clean. B.The doctor and the nurse took good care of Oliver. C.The board was responsible for the orphans. D.Oliver’s mother wasn’t married when he was born. 25.What is the passage mainly about? B.They are formed when rivers cut through the land. C.They are formed when the Earth’s plates push into each other. D.They are formed by heavy rain and strong winds. 18.What does the underlined word “rapidly” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Brightly. B.Quickly. C.Powerfully. D.Quietly. 19.What does “landscape” usually include? A.Only landforms. B.Only natural things. C.Just man-made things. D.Landforms, trees, houses and lakes. 20.How does the writer explain the difference between landform and landscape? A.By telling stories. B.By listing numbers. C.By giving examples. D.By asking questions. C When Oliver arrived in this hard world, it was very doubtful whether he would live beyond the first three minutes. A.Cool. B.Cold. C.Warm. Then you must visit Zhangye Geopark (地质公园) in China! It’s recognized by UNESCO as one of the best geoparks in the world. Here, you can enjoy the beauty of the rainbow hills. They are low hills that look like waves and have many different colours, just like a rainbow! There is little grass growing on the land. When you see the hills from above, it’s like you’re looking at rainbows painted on the ground. You may wonder how these colourful hills came to be. Millions of years ago, this area was under a lake. Over time, rivers brought in sand and stones with different kinds of metal elements. These were left in layers on the bottom of the lake. Some layers were red, some yellow, and others turned purple or blue. Later, as the climate became colder and drier, the lake dried up. Then, something amazing happened! The underground land began to rise up and push against each other. The layers of sandstone were lifted higher and higher. Through years of wind, sun, and rain, they formed the colourful hills we see today. June to September is the most wonderful time to visit. The mornings and evenings are cooler than the hot days, giving you the perfect weather to enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. Sunshine after a summer rain will make the colours even brighter and more beautiful. 56.What can you enjoy in Zhangye Geopark? 57.What colours were the layers? 58.How did the layers form the colourful hills we see today? 59.When is the most wonderful time to visit the park? 60.What do you think of Zhangye Geopark? Dear Tom, I’m glad you are interested in the natural beauty of China. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Hope you can come and enjoy the beauty soon!
