He climbed a tree near the family well to reach the peppers. Suddenly, a sharp cracking sound broke the morning silence. The branch beneath Ramesan broke. He lost his balance and fell directly into the 40-foot well below, striking his head and back against the wall on the way down. His wife Padmam heard the crash, then the terrifying splash (落水声) . She rushed to the well and looked down into the darkness. She called his name. His faint voice echoed back — he was all right. She found a plastic rope and lowered it for him to climb.
