W: Hello, everybody. Today I’d like to share with you something about David Shannon. David was born in 1959 and grew up in Spokane, Washington. He has liked baseball and drawing since he was a child. Like children nowadays, school textbooks were his drawing paper. From junior high school, David knew that he wanted to be an artist who could play baseball. He chose the Art Center College of Design in California. After obtaining a degree in fine art, he went to New York, where he continued to paint his illustrations. He first painted some politically colored illustrations for New York Times, Time and Rolling Stone. Later, by chance, he drew illustrations for Julius Lester’s How Many Spots Does a Jaguar Have? This book won Newbery Medal. In 1994, David created How Georgie Radbourn Saved Baseball, which was the first book he completed independently. And it was the best picture book of the year in New York Times.
David’s dad also paints pictures for medical books, and his grandma is a designer of fashion bags. Overall, David’s mom has the greatest influence on his creation. She liked to save her son’s childhood paintings. She sent those childish pictures to David, unexpectedly inspiring him to create No, David! This picture book won him instant fame and many awards.

Tiny Forests: A Small Step to Balance Humans and Nature
As the global ecological crisis becomes increasingly serious, humans are seeking effective ways to live in harmony with nature. The Tiny Forest movement, initiated by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki in the 1970s, has become a popular solution to restore urban ecology and strengthen the bond between humans and nature. In 2025, there were many countries setting up tiny forests. The statistics are as follows:
The Number of Tiny Forests in Major Countries (2025)
A tiny forest refers to a small area (usually 100-200 square meters) where native plant seedlings are densely planted to quickly restore forest ecosystems on degraded land. The survey shows that 89% of the areas with tiny forests have seen a significant increase in local biodiversity, with the number of insect and bird species rising by 30% on average. Besides, these small forests help reduce urban heat islands and improve air quality, which brings great benefits to human health.
Benefits of Tiny Forests (2025 Survey Results)
Benefit Type
Percentage of People Who Feel the Benefit
Improved air quality
78%
Reduced surrounding temperature
72%
Increased outdoor leisure places
65%
Relieved mental stress
61%
Despite the remarkable benefits, the development of tiny forests still faces some challenges. The top challenge is the lack of professional maintenance personnel, reported by 45% of the surveyed regions, followed by insufficient funding (38%) and limited urban land (17%). Notably, the survey also finds that 76% of young people are willing to participate in tiny forest planting and maintenance, showing their strong enthusiasm for protecting nature and building a harmonious relationship with it.
The Tiny Forest movement proves that even small efforts can make a big difference in achieving harmony between humans and nature. The survey concludes that strengthening international cooperation and encouraging youth participation will promote the sustainable development of the Tiny Forest movement and contribute to building a greener world.

In the world of quantum (量子) information, precision is everything. For 29-year-old doctoral candidate Wang Haigang, that precision doesn’t come from his hands, but from his feet. Sitting in a quiet laboratory at Taiyuan University of Technology, Wang runs complex simulations and drafts research papers with his right foot on the mouse and his left on the keyboard. It is a scene of intense focus that recently earned him the university’s highest honor: the President’s Scholarship.
Wang’s journey began with a childhood tragedy. At age 8, an accident with a high-voltage wire resulted in the loss of both arms. While the suffering was immense, Wang chose a path of independence. By the end of his first summer without arms, with the support of his family, he had mastered writing neat characters with his toes.
Wang often studied until the early hours, enduring leg cramps (抽筋) and stomach pain from sitting bent over for too long. In 2020, he pursued a master’s degree at the School of Mathematics at Taiyuan University of Technology, embarking on a combined master’s and doctoral program. That same year, he was named “a star of self-reliant Chinese college students”.
The six years Wang spent at the university in Taiyuan marked a period of rapid growth. He achieved breakthroughs in research, built valuable relationships and embraced independence. Rejecting his parents’ offer to accompany him, he traveled alone to the university, completing all the admission procedures by himself. “I’ve grown up. I can’t rely on my parents forever. If they were always by my side, I would never truly become independent,” Wang said.
Wang published his research findings in the field of quantum information as the first author in the journal Communications Physics, showcasing his exceptional research potential.

Plenty of previous research has shown that interacting with nature reduces stress, but it is not clear how long and how often the engagement needs to be. A new study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology suggests that you don’t have to devote a full day, or even several hours to benefit from the contact with nature.
MaryCarol Hunter, the study’s lead author, and her colleagues recruited 36 residents of Michigan, almost all of whom were women and white. They instructed the participants to spend 10 minutes or more, at least three times a week, in an outdoor space where they could interact with nature.
In the hope of reflecting how people might realistically engage with nature as they go about their everyday lives, the researchers gave the participants permission to choose where and when they visited those outdoor spaces. The participants were also instructed to avoid accessing the Internet, taking phone calls, reading or engaging in conversations while they were there to minimize factors known to influence stress.
Every two weeks the participants collected saliva (唾液) samples before and after their nature experience. The researchers used those samples to measure levels of the stress hormone cortisol (皮质醇), a body chemical known to be related to stress.
The study found that the participants’ levels of cortisol dropped by an average of 21 percent after spending time in an urban green space. The effects were most pronounced when the nature experience was between 20 and 30 minutes long. Levels of the hormone dropped further when participants spent longer periods, but at a slower rate.
This study was quite small, and its participants were not diverse. Furthermore, it measured only drops in biomarkers for stress instead of direct impact on specific health outcomes. Still, the study’s findings are in line with a growing body of research that supports the idea that spending time in or living near a green space can have a positive effect on health and provides the first estimates of how nature experiences impact stress levels in the context of normal daily life.
28.What does Hunter’s study focus on?
A.The role of cortisol in stress reduction. B.The benefits of spending time outdoors.
C.The impact of nature on physical health. D.The ideal duration in nature for stress relief.
29.Why were the participants prohibited from certain activities in outdoor spaces?
A.To keep disturbing factors from affecting stress.
B.To test their ability to stay offline for a long time.
C.To reflect how people realistically engage with nature.
D.To encourage participants to focus on physical exercise.
30.What does the underlined word “pronounced” in paragraph 5 mean?
A.Direct. B.Lasting. C.Slight. D.Significant.
31.What does the author think of Hunter’s study?
A.Unreliable but novel. B.Specific and influential.
C.Limited but informative. D.Comprehensive and valid.
【答案】28.D 29.A 30.D 31.C

Squeeze a toy too hard and it deforms; hold a water bottle too loosely and it falls. These struggles bother millions who have lost all or part of an arm or hand and rely on man-made hands — devices that can grasp objects but cannot feel. Now, engineers at Johns Hopkins University have developed a bionic (仿生) hand that feels what it’s touching and grasps like a human, carefully conforming and adjusting its grasp to avoid damaging or mishandling whatever it holds.
The pioneering design marks a first for robotic hands, which have typically been too rigid or too soft to copy human touch. Such long-standing difficulties have limited the use of traditional artificial hands. “Our goal has been to create a more natural man-made hand that functions and feels like a real hand,” said lead researcher Sriramana Sankar. “We want people to hold their loved ones without worrying about hurting them.”
The hand integrates soft materials with a rigid 3D-printed internal structure. Its three layers of touch sensors, inspired by human skin, allow it to detect shapes and textures. Each soft finger joint can be controlled using forearm muscles, while machine learning algorithms (算法) process the signals from the artificial touch sensors and turn them into nerve-like messages, which are delivered through electrical stimulation to the user’s nervous system, allowing the brain to perceive touch in real time. In this way, users can sense pressure and surface just as they would with a real hand.
In lab tests, the hand identified and handled 15 everyday objects — from delicate stuffed toys to metal water bottles — with 99.69% accuracy. Most impressively, it picked up a thin plastic cup filled with water using just three fingers, without crushing (压扁) it.
“While this technology is still an early breakthrough, future models could feature greater strength, additional sensors, and industrial-grade materials,” said project director Nitish Thakor. “Such technology isn’t just for use in next-generation bionic hands, but also for future robotic hands, which will need to handle fragile materials like glass and fabric, just as human hands do.” The influence may soon reach far beyond medical use alone.
32.What function do machine learning algorithms perform in the bionic hand?
A.They detect the shapes and textures of objects.
B.They deliver the messages to the nervous system.
C.They handle touch signals and create sensory feedback.
D.They control the movement of each finger joint directly.
33.Why does the author mention picking up a thin plastic cup filled with water?
A.To compare the hand’s ability with that of a human hand.
B.To prove the hand has stronger grasp than traditional ones.
C.To suggest the hand is mainly designed for everyday tasks.
D.To show the hand’s ability to apply precise pressure control.
34.What is Nitish Thakor’s attitude towards the future of the bionic hand technology?
A.Cautiously optimistic. B.Highly doubtful.
C.Somewhat disappointed. D.Extremely confident.
35.Which would be the best title for the text?
A.A Bionic Breakthrough: The Hand That Feels.
B.A New Man-made Hand: Never Dropping a Cup.
C.A Robotic Innovation: Making Everyday Tasks Easier.
D.A Pioneering Design: Copying Human Bones and Skin.

Unlike running, rucking is an ideal workout for beginners, hikers, and fitness enthusiasts alike, as it provides low-impact resistance training. 37 This action strengthens your legs, back, and core muscles, and it improves your cardiovascular (心血管) endurance. Whether you’re hitting the trails, walking around your neighborhood, or training for an endurance event, rucking is a scalable workout that can be adapted to any fitness level.
38 It’s a full-body workout that improves strength, endurance, and cardiovascular health without the wear and tear of high-impact exercises like running. Carrying weight while walking engages multiple muscle groups, including your legs, back, and shoulders. Over time, this builds endurance, improves posture, and increases overall stability, making you stronger in everyday movements.
One of the best things about rucking? 39 Whether you’re hiking on trails, walking through your neighborhood, or hitting city streets, rucking is a versatile workout that fits seamlessly into any routine — no gym required. Adding weight to your walk can increase calorie burn without the need for complicated workouts. The extra resistance forces your body to work harder, increasing energy expenditure while also improving endurance, mental toughness, and overall fitness.
40 Start with light weight, focus on proper form, and gradually increase your distance and load as you build strength. The beauty of rucking is that it’s as simple or as challenging as you make it — just strap on your pack and start moving.
A.You can do it anywhere.
B.You simply walk with weight.
C.It also puts low-impact stress on the joints.
D.Add more weight to challenge your endurance.
E.Rucking is more than just walking with weight.
F.It ensures you recover efficiently after your workout.
G.Now that you have the knowledge, it’s time to put it into action.

故填valuable/valued。
a large number of意为“大量的,许多的”,固定短语,所以空处需用不定冠词a。故填a。
62.考查定语从句。句意同上。空处需用关系词引导非限制性定语从句,先行词是classic works,指物,关系词在定语从句中作介词among的宾语,所以空处需用关系代词which引导定语从句。故填which。
故填is preserved/is being preserved。
故填to。

第二节 (满分 25 分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
For nearly a year, 91-year-old Donald, a former US soldier, had been frequently visiting US Gold & Pawn (典当) in Manchester, New Hampshire, unwillingly selling off pieces of his wife’s cherished jewelry bit by bit. Each visit felt heavier than the last, as though he were parting with fragments of their shared life. Each time, he would politely ask for a slightly higher price, his eyes reflecting a mixture of hope and helplessness. There was a quiet dignity in his posture, a sense of duty that never wavered, even as he handed over another treasure from their past.
Janelle Marie, a warm-hearted employee at the shop, noticed his repeated visits and grew increasingly concerned. She began to recognize his face, the same worn coat, the hesitant steps, the careful way he unwrapped each item. She sensed something unusual behind his quiet behavior. One afternoon, she approached him gently and asked, “Sir, is everything okay? You’ve been coming here often. Can we help in any other way?” Moved by her kindness, Donald opened up. His wife was battling against a severe illness that demanded his constant care. To make matters worse, their landlord (房东) had recently raised the rent, worsening their financial situation.
It turned out Donald had already sold almost everything of value in their home — including a 1994 Mercedes he had gifted his wife on their 40th anniversary, a cherished symbol of their long marriage. They had no children, no close relatives, and no one to turn to for support, leaving him overwhelmed by loneliness and responsibility. He felt utterly alone in the struggle to protect his wife and save their home, facing each day with quiet desperation.
Deeply touched by his story, Janelle made up her mind to help. She first convinced the shop owner, Bob, to extend the loan period and reduce the service fee, which was instantly agreed by the gentleman. But realizing that wasn’t sufficient, they decided to take it a step further.注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:
Together with Bob, Janelle launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Donald. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Janelle took out the donation money, put it in an envelope and handed it to Donald.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
Together with Bob, Janelle launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Donald. She wove together the threads of their story: his wife’s illness diagnosis, their decades of companionship, and the hardships of selling precious items to make ends meet etc. She also recorded a short video in which Donald was taking care of his wife with meticulous care and attention. Once the campaign went live, it spread like wildfire. Netizens passed the story from screen to screen, and even local hospitals stepped forward to cut their medical charges. In merely a week, the donations soared far beyond their goal — enough to cover the rent, the ongoing treatments, and even a little more for the hard days ahead.Paragraph 2:
Janelle took out the donation money, put it in an envelope and handed it to Donald. Staring at the envelope, Donald froze for a few seconds, then tremblingly opened it. “I…I don’t know how to thank you,” he said, “You save my wife’s life and our home,” Donald sobbed to Janelle and Bob. He had thought there would be no one to turn to and he was totally alone. Janelle told him it was himself that he should thank, who had been holding on for so long and that was what made others follow the example.

I found many of the distance there are very spicy and really to my taste. However, people here may not be very keen on spicy food. You're right. As far as I know, not all of the food is spicy. That's why my restaurant will mainly offer dishes that are not spicy. What about a small number of people who like spicy food? Of course, I am planning to offer traditional mexican food for the curious and and adventures. Furthermore, i've invented many new dishes that combine the local dishes with mexican traditional dishes, which is different from other mexican restaurants. That's great. I can't wait to try them out at your restaurant. Mark, i've heard you will open a mexican restaurant in town is IT because you grew to love the food in mexico while you worked there.

Gradually, he discovered a passion for mathematics, which gave him joy and direction in learning. In 2015, Wang was admitted to Shandong University of Science and Technology.
24.What did Wang do soon after losing his arms?
A.He learned to write neatly with his toes.
B.He started independent academic research.
C.He was admitted to a university right away.
D.He developed a great love for mathematics.
25.What brought Wang joy and clear learning direction?
A.His honors from the university.
B.His family’s continuous support.
C.His quantum research achievements.
D.His deep passion for mathematics.
26.Why did Wang refuse his parents’ company to university?
A.To avoid prejudice from his classmates.
B.To reduce financial burden on his family.
C.To achieve true independence in his growth.
D.To get special accommodation from the school.
27.Which of the following best describes Wang Haigang’s personality?
A.Outgoing and quiet.
B.Self-reliant and determined.
C.Honest and tolerant.
D.Generous and responsible.
C
D

It builds strength and endurance. Now, it has become a popular workout for anyone. It improves core stability and overall fitness. 36

Gradually, he discovered a passion for mathematics, which gave him joy and direction in learning. In 2015, Wang was admitted to Shandong University of Science and Technology.
C
D

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
Paragraph 1:
Together with Bob, Janelle launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Donald. In merely a week, the donations soared far beyond their goal — enough to cover the rent, the ongoing treatments, and even a little more for the hard days ahead.
Paragraph 2:
Janelle took out the donation money, put it in an envelope and handed it to Donald.
