空后“other kids had sandwiches, Eddie’s lunch was rice and meat. 根据下文“But the sandwich—plain bread, plain meat—felt like something was missing.” 故用with。 “He realized every dish had a story…in his family.” 上文所说“Chinese food was not just food”,故排除food,且根据前文提到的“a story”等内容,应选culture,以此来符合语境逻辑。 根据“the good smell spread.” (共两节,满分43分) 第一节(共19小题;每小题2分,共38分) A FIRST AID FOR BURNS Degree of burns Treatment If you have a first-degree burn, follow these steps: 1 Cool the burnt area under cool running water. 2 Remove jewellery (去除配饰) and any clothing unless stuck to the burn. 3 Apply (涂抹) a burn ointment or aloe vera. A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ①③④ D. ②③④ 【答案】18. C 19. D 20. B 21. 【19题详解】 根据常识,如果不小心接触到沸水,属于一度烧伤情况,按照文中“If you have a first-degree burn, follow these steps: 1 Cool the burnt area under cool running water.” 【20题详解】 根据“Apply (涂抹) a burn ointment or aloe vera. Don’t use ice, eggs or oil.” 【21题详解】 根据“Prevention”部分“Avoid touching hot water directly.”“Stay away from fire.”“Deal with chemicals under instructions.” B “Dad, Joaquin shamed me in front of everyone!” Paco stormed home from school. “I hope something terrible happens to him!” Without a word, his dad went to a corner and fetched a bag of charcoal (木炭). Gesturing towards a white shirt hanging on a clothes line, he said, “Son, think of that shirt as Joaquin. Every time you hit it with a piece of charcoal, it’s like wishing him a bit of bad luck. Let’s see what will happen when all the charcoal is gone. ” Paco’s eyes lit up at the idea. He grabbed a handful of charcoal and started throwing it at the shirt. But the clothes line was set far back, and no matter how hard he tried, most of the charcoal missed the target. By the time he’d emptied the bag, only a few pieces stained (玷污) the shirt. “Still feel good?” Dad asked. “Whew, I’m beat,” Paco panted (喘气). “But yeah! Look, I’ve got some marks on it!” Dad led him to the front of the mirror. Paco jumped in surprise at his reflection-he was covered in charcoal dust from head to toe. “See, the shirt’s hardly dirty,” his dad said gently, “but look at yourself. You’ve turned all black. ” Paco finally understood the lesson his father wanted to deliver. 22. What did Paco’s father ask him to do with the charcoal? A. Burn the charcoal in the yard. B. Throw the charcoal at a white shirt. C. Give the charcoal to their neighbor. D. Draw a picture with the charcoal on paper. 23. What does the underlined word “target”in Paragraph 3 refer to? A. The mirror. B. The white shirt. C. The clothes line. D. The bag. 24. What can we infer (推理) from Paco’s reaction after looking at himself in the mirror? A. He was happy about his dirty face. B. He planned to wash the shirt immediately. C. He realized that his wish for Joaquin was wrong. D. He wanted to continue throwing charcoal at the shirt. 25. How did Paco’s mood change in the story? A. Sad→Angry→Surprised→Happy B. Nervous→Happy→Tired→Surprised C. Angry→Excited→Surprised→Thoughtful D. Angry→Excited→Tired→Disappointed 26. What lesson did Paco’s father want to deliver? A. Wishing ill on others often harms oneself instead. B. Physical distance affects the success of our actions. C. Expressing anger through games is better than shouting. D. Actions speak louder than words when dealing with enemies. B 23. B 24. C 25. C 26. 【22题详解】 文章第二段父亲说道:“Son, think of that shirt as Joaquin. Every time you hit it with a piece of charcoal...”,结合第三段“He grabbed a handful of charcoal and started throwing it at the shirt.” 【23题详解】 第三段前文讲到Paco拿木炭扔向那件白衬衫,本句“most of the charcoal missed the target” 意为大部分木炭都没有命中目标,由此可判断画线单词target指代前文的the white shirt。 【24题详解】 文章最后一段写到Paco照镜子看到自己满身炭灰,结合“Paco finally understood the lesson his father wanted to deliver”可以推断,他醒悟过来,意识到自己怨恨、诅咒别人的想法是错误的。 C Zhang Xuefeng was one of China’s most famous education influencers. Following a trial (试验), some patients refused to have theirs turned off. The trial, which began in 2018, involved five people between the ages of 22 and 60. They all had problems which were related to mental activities like thinking or reasoning after having serious brain injuries for 3 years or more. The injuries meant they had difficulty performing some tasks. For the trial, doctors implanted (植入) a tiny device into each patient’s brain during an operation. The device used “deep brain stimulation” (DBS), which rebuilds connections between neurons. Neurons are tiny cells, and there are billions of them in the brain. Whenever you do something, chemical and electrical signals move between your neurons. The tiny device applied electricity to parts of the brain. The trial was the first to focus DBS on a part of the brain that deals with consciousness (意识). It helped people be aware of what is around them and be able to respond (作出反应) to it. After the devices were put into the brains, the patients in the study had them turned on for 90 days, for 12 hours a day. This had a great influence on their lives. They could suddenly do things, like reading a book or playing video games, that used to be impossible because of their brain injuries. They also reported feeling less tired and could get through the day without napping. After 90 days, researchers wanted to turn off some of the patients’ devices. Two people were so happy with the difference the device made in their lives that they refused. Finally, one person agreed to have theirs turned off—and their brain performance got worse. Gina Arata, a patient who took part in the trial, said, “I can remember how much money is in my bank account. I wasn’t able to read, but after the implant I bought a book... and loved it and remembered it.” Nicholas Schiff, one of the authors of the study, called it a “pioneering moment.” Scientists hope the implant will change the lives of more people with serious long-term brain injuries. 32. Which of the following is TRUE about the patients in the trial? A. They have problems with mental activities. B. The patients include both children and adults. C. Only four patients are invited to be in the trial D. All of them get injured almost at the same time. 33. What does the word “It” refer to in Paragraph 2? A. The research team. B. The serious brain injury. C. The use of DBS device. D. The chemical signal between neurons. 34. Which is NOT mentioned as a result of using the device? A. Patients will feel less tired than before. B. Patients will have more need for napping. C. Patients may have the ability to read books. D. Patients’ memory for daily tasks will be better. 35. What is the right order of the following steps of the trial? a. Researchers tried to turn off some patients’ devices. b. Doctors implanted tiny devices into patients’ brains. c. Patients had their devices turned on for 12 hours daily. d. Two patients refused to let researchers turn off the device. e. Patients showed improved cognitive abilities like reading. A. a-b-c-e-d B. a-b-d-e-c C. b-c-e-a-d D. b-e-c-a-d 36. Which is the best title for this article? A. Brain Surgery Risks: A Patient’s Story B. The Way Neurons Send Signals in the Brain C. 32. Only four patients are invited to be in the trial D. All of them get injured almost at the same time. 33. What does the word “It” refer to in Paragraph 2? A. The research team. B. B. Patients will have more need for napping. C. Patients may have the ability to read books. D. Patients’ memory for daily tasks will be better. 35.
