Taking public transportation in America, you can often see people reading books on their way to school or work. But in China, I rarely see people reading during their free time.
Are people’s attitudes toward reading different here? Not really. Data(数据)released by Amazon China show that Chinese people still read a lot. They simply prefer e-books over regular books.
However, other data shows that reading is still more popular in America than in China. Is there a reason for this difference? I’m not sure. What I do know is that China has a rich history of literature. From classic novels like Romance of the Three Kingdoms(《三国演义》)to the modern science-fiction epic The Three-Body Problem(问题), Chinese authors have created many fantastic written works.
Perhaps the difference starts from childhood. Reading textbooks and doing homework can make you feel quite tired. By the time you finish it, you might not feel like reading for fun. Chinese students definitely(肯定)have to read more and do more homework than US students. So it’s no wonder that they might not want to read much in their spare time.
But learning to love reading can be great. Reading can open doors to places, people and ideas that you cannot imagine. Even just a single book has the power to change your own personal beliefs and attitudes.
Where will your next book take you?
14.According to Paragraph 1, what do we know about people in America?

C.Chinese people’s attitudes toward reading have changed a lot.
D.Chinese people love buying more books from the online bookshops.
16.The author believes that reading is less popular in China because ________.
A.it is hard to choose what to read
B.Chinese people prefer to read textbooks
C.people’s childhood experiences may influence their reading habits
D.Chinese people already read enough books during their childhoods
17.According to the author, reading books can ________.

Is body language important and useful? The answer in yes. Because it can help people understand us easily. When we are communicating with others, we use not only words but also body language. For example, we use facial expressions to show our feelings. We use smiles to mean that we are happy. We also use gestures such as shaking hands with each other to show we are friendly.
However, different countries have different body language. For example, people in China and Australia shake hands when they meet others while Frenchmen and Russians greet others with kisses. People from English-speaking countries do not like touching each other, but people in Puerto Rico like doing it. Therefore, if you touch someone from the UK, you should say sorry to him or her. If an American agrees with you, he will put his thumb (拇指) and forefinger (食指) into a circle. But in Bruail, people think it is rude. In many countries, “thumbs up” means agreement. But people in Australia used to think it was impolite to raise one’s thumbs up.
Therefore, when we use body language in a foreign country, we should make sure if it is polite to do so in that country.
18.Which gesture do the Americans do to show that they agree with you?

You may have heard of the famous saying, “East or West, home is the best.” What does the word “home” mean to you? How do you say the word in French, in Chinese, in your language? Although people usually know what the word means, it sometimes has no exact translation (翻译). It’s not surprising, because the idea of home is different from country to country, and from person to person. A home is more than a roof and four walls. It’s the cooking, eating, talking, playing and sleeping that go on inside. And at home you usually feel safe and relaxed.
Homes look different in different countries. They also have different things inside. For example, in cold northern Europe, there’s a fire in the living room or kitchen and all the chairs face it. In the south, where the sun shines a lot and it’s more important to keep the heat out, there are small windows and cool stone floors.
We asked some people about their homes.
How often do people move house in your country?
“In my country many people don’t stay in one place for a very long time. They often move every ten years or so.”
—Cherry, Boston, USA
What are features (特征) of homes in your country?
“In Britain, even in town, there’s always a garden. We have separate bedrooms and living rooms. But we don’t often have balconies (阳台). The weather isn’t warm enough!”

A.They get used to staying in one place.
B.They like to buy new houses with balconies.
C.They often move house several times in their lives.
D.They don’t have separate bedrooms and living rooms.
25.Why does the writer use the two examples at the end of the passage?
A.To show that homes look different in different countries.
B.To show that homes have different things inside in different countries.
C.To tell us that people in different countries have different living habits.
D.To tell us that people in different countries have different ideas about home.

23.细节理解题。根据“In the south, where the sun shines a lot and it’s more important to keep the heat out, there are small windows and cool stone floors.”可知,在南方有小窗户和凉爽的石头地板是为了把热量挡在外面。故选B。
24.推理判断题。根据“In my country many people don’t stay in one place for a very long time. They often move every ten years or so.”可知,许多人不会在一个地方待很长时间,他们经常每十年左右搬一次家,表明频繁搬家是常态。故选C。

There are so many expressions in American English that sound pleasant (令人愉快的) but are not. 26 When someone says they have to “face the music”, it does not mean they are going to a concert. “Facing the music” means to accept and deal with the punishment (惩罚) of an action.
27 For example, “I can’t face another night of camping! It’s cold and rainy.” Or “In life, you must face your fears.” Face used in this way is very common. But now, let’s go back to facing the music. Imagine a friend asks you to take care of her beautiful red sports car. She gives you the keys and says, “Thanks so much for watching my car while I’m away. But please, do not drive it. It is an extremely (极其) fast car.” 28 You want to show off to some friends. So, you drive it around town one night. As bad luck would have it, you lose control of the car and drive it into a stop sign. Bang!
When your friend returns, you must tell her what you have done and “face the music”. 29 It could be losing her friendship or paying for repairs to her sports car or both. Whatever the music is, you must face it.
30 To “take your medicine” means to accept the results from something bad you have done. And if someone says, “You made your bed. Now lie in it,” they mean you created a bad situation and now you will experience the results!

52. 句意:“这真的很有趣,”克莱尔说。根据“It’s really...”可知,此处需要一个形容词作表语,“fun”本身可作形容词,意为“有趣的”。故填fun。

请认真阅读下面短文,用英语回答短文后的问题,并将答案写在答题卡标有题号的横线上。
Travelling gets easier and easier. We live in a global (全球的) village. But how do we know and understand each other?
Here is a simple test. Imagine you have a meeting with foreign visitors at four o’clock. What time will your guests probably arrive? If they are Germans, they will be on time without doubt. If they are Americans, they will probably be 15 minutes early. If they are British, they will be 15 minutes late, and you should allow up to an hour for Italians.
English is widely understood, but it is not necessarily (不一定) the same with English customs (风俗). For example, the British are happy to have a business lunch and discuss matters with a drink during the meal. The Japanese, however, prefer not to work while eating. In Japan, lunch should be a time to relax and to get to know one another, and the Japanese hardly ever drink at lunchtime. Germans like to talk business before dinner, while the French like to eat first and talk afterwards. The French think they have to be well fed before they discuss anything.
So it is important for us to know the saying: When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
54.When having a meeting, who will arrive first according to the passage? (不超过5个词)
55.If you want to talk business with the French at lunchtime, what should you do? (不超过5个词)
56.What advice would you give to foreigners in China? (不超过15个词)
【答案】54.Americans. 55.Eat first and talk afterwards. 56.You should shake hands when you meet people for the first time. (答案不唯一)
【导语】本文通过不同国家在商务会面时的守时习惯和餐桌礼仪,说明了文化差异的重要性,并强调“入乡随俗”这一原则。

55.第三段提到“The French think they have to be well fed before they discuss anything.”,说明法国人认为在讨论任何事务之前应该先吃饱。
56.本题为开放性试题,答案不唯一,只要符合中国礼仪习惯、表达合理即可。示例给出了初次见面要握手,也可以从守时、餐桌礼仪等方面作答。

A.it is hard to choose what to read

A.make you relaxed B.change your view of the world

A.Put the thumb and forefinger into a circle.
B.Put the forefinger up and other fingers down.
C.Put the thumb down and other fingers all up.
D.Put all the fingers up.
19.What does the underlined word “impolite” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Pleasant. B.Interesting. C.Disrespectful. D.Friendly.
20.Which of the following statement (陈述) is true?
A.People in Australia greets others with kisses.
B.Frenchmen and Russians greet others with handshakes.
C.The British don’t like touching each other.
D.If you touch someone from Puerto Rico, you should say sorry to him or her.
21.Where is this passage most probably from?

—Pat, Exeter, England
22.Why does the writer say the word “home” sometimes has no exact translation?
A.It has different meanings in different countries.
B.Many people sometimes don’t know the word.
C.It has many meanings in different dictionaries.
D.Different people have different vocabularies.
23.Why do people in the south build small windows?
A.To keep warm. B.To keep the heat out.
C.To save money. D.To collect the sunshine.
24.What can we know about people in his country from Cherry’s words?
A.They get used to staying in one place.
B.They like to buy new houses with balconies.
C.They often move house several times in their lives.
D.They don’t have separate bedrooms and living rooms.
25.Why does the writer use the two examples at the end of the passage?
A.To show that homes look different in different countries.
B.To show that homes have different things inside in different countries.
C.To tell us that people in different countries have different living habits.
D.To tell us that people in different countries have different ideas about home.

A.But you do not listen.
B.“Face the music” is a good example.
C.The “music” here is the result of your actions.
D.Americans often use the word “face” in this way.
E.Everyone likes to enjoy a concert in the evening.
F.You are very afraid of losing the trust of your friend.
G.There are other American expressions that mean the same thing as “face the music”.
