Seven seconds left. Mason’s team, the Blazers, held a 31-29 lead, but there was plenty of time for the Engineers to tie the game or win it.
“Defense (防守)!” Mason kept close to Edwin, the Engineers’ star player, who had scored the most points for the team this season. ____1____ him was Mason’s duty.
Suddenly, Edwin sped toward the basket. “4, 3, 2...”
Edwin stopped short, made a high ____2____ and threw the ball as Mason stumbled (踉跄).
Beeeeeeep! The buzzer (哨子) sounded, marking the end of the game. Mason turned and watched as the ball slipped (滑过) cleanly through the net, without even ____3____ the basket. The cheering from the Engineers told him that shot (投篮) beat the buzzer.
“Overtime (加时赛),” said Mason’s teammate Joe. “Let’s keep up the energy and ____4____ this game!”
Edwin smiled and nodded at Mason. “Here we go again.”
I’ve had ____5____ of this guy, Mason shook his head. Edwin makes me look like a bad player.
“Breathe,” Joe placed a hand on Mason’s shoulder. “Just relax and play smart.”
Both teams felt ____6____ as the overtime started, missing shots and making poor passes. But Edwin hit a jump shot, and he soon added a layup. The Engineers suddenly had a four-point lead. Then, Joe’s three-pointer cut the lead to one point with only 28 seconds left.
Mason ____7____ close to Edwin. After Edwin shouted for the ball, Mason stepped in front of him and stopped the pass with 11 seconds left.
Make this shot, Mason told himself. This is your ____8____.
“5, 4, 3...” Mason rose to shoot, but Edwin jumped above him. Mason saw a better ____9____. Joe was open under the basket. Mason had just enough time to pass the ball to him. Joe caught the pass, turned, and passed the ball gently off the backboard and into the basket as the buzzer sounded.
“The Blazers were the winners!” Mason and Joe high-fived. “Great pass!” Joe said ____10____.
“You’re a pretty good player,” Edwin said.
“We’re both pretty good,” Mason replied. “See you next season, I hope.”

根据“made a high”及“threw the ball”,描述投篮动作前需要起跳。
根据“slipped cleanly through the net”及“without even”,说明球是空心入网,未接触篮筐。
根据下文“Edwin makes me look like a bad player”,Mason对Edwin感到厌烦或无奈。应选用enough,构成have had enough of表示“受够了”。
根据“Joe was open under the basket”及“pass the ball”,说明他看到了传给队友的机会。
根据绝杀获胜后“Mason and Joe high-fived”及“Great pass!”,Joe此时情绪高涨。

Life was very different at Scott’s home. Scott lived with his father, a judge (法官), his mother, and his sister. There were other animals as well, such as cats and chickens. White Fang had to learn that the other people in the house were friends and that he must not attack the chickens or cats.
One day, he killed fifty of the birds. Scott was angry with White Fang. He did not beat him badly, but he pushed his head at the dead birds and hit White Fang at the same time. This way, White Fang knew he had done wrong.
“The animal is a wolf,” Scott’s father said. “You’ll never teach him not to kill chickens.”
“He won’t attack another chicken,” Scott said. “Will you make a bet (打赌) with me? “
The judge agreed, and the two men had a bet.
“I’ll lock White Fang in the chicken house,” Scott said. “He can stay there all night. In the morning, not one chicken will be dead”. And this was what happened. White Fang behaved as if there were no chickens in the chicken house. He had learned his lesson. By this time, everyone in Scott’s family liked White Fang. They felt safe with him because he knew them, even though he was not a “house dog”.
After Scott came back home from the Yukon, a dangerous man appeared. His name was Jim Hall, and he had killed many men. He wanted to kill the judge who had sent him to prison (监狱). This was Scott’s father.
One night, Jim Hall got into the house and planned to shoot (射击) the judge while he slept. However, White Fang saw the strange man. He knew that this man was not a friend and jumped at him. A fight went on for a long time. Jim Hall shot White Fang several times, but White Fang would not let him go.
The noise woke everyone up. The police came and took Jim Hall back to prison. White Fang’s wounds were very bad, and he was dying. Scott sent for a doctor who looked at White Fang and said, “He has only one chance in a thousand of living.”
The doctor did everything he could for White Fang, but he lost a lot of blood and was badly hurt. However, as the days passed, White Fang slowly got better. He lived, but he could not fight again. He lived the rest of his life quietly with Scott and his family, a much gentler and much loved wolf-dog.
— Adapted from White Fang

第一段提到“Scott lived with his father, a judge, his mother, and his sister.”,可知Scott家有父亲、母亲、妹妹和Scott自己,共四口人。
从第七段“After Scott came back home from the Yukon, a dangerous man appeared. His name was Jim Hall, and he had killed many men. He wanted to kill the judge who had sent him to prison. This was Scott's father.”

C
①Global (全球的) warming is bringing great trouble to food growth around the world and rice is especially easy to get hurt by high temperatures. It grows slowly and the production is much less. Many crops even dry up and die completely. This makes farmers have bad harvests and puts local food safety in danger. To solve this serious problem, Chinese scientists have worked hard in both labs and test fields for years, and finally developed a new kind of rice successfully.
②On December 3, 2025, their research result was published in Cell, a famous international science magazine. This new rice can survive high temperatures—it can live through different levels of high temperatures.
③How can this special rice stay safe in high temperatures? When high heat reaches its cells, two special genes (基因)—DGK7 and MdPDE1—start working at once. First, the DGK7 gene helps the cell make a special chemical signal (信号). Next, this chemical signal travels inside the cell, reaches the MdPDE1 gene, and turns it on. Then the MdPDE1 gene helps the cell make a second chemical signal. Finally, this second signal makes many other helpful genes in the cell start working. They all work together to help the rice get used to hot conditions quickly.
④ ▲ To create this amazing rice, scientists used a special tool, CRISPR-Cas9, to improve these two genes. After many experiments, they carefully put the improved genes into rice plants. This new rice not only protects its pollen (花粉)—which is very important for rice production—from being hurt by heat, but also keeps growing healthily in high temperatures. It makes sure there is enough food as the world gets warmer. It also helps farmers get more harvests even in very hot years, bringing new hope to global food safety. However, there are still some practical problems to solve before it can help more farmers around the world.
21. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By asking a question. B. By listing numbers.
C. By giving an example. D. By showing a problem.
22. What does the underlined word “it” refer to in Paragraph 3?
A. The cell. B. The DGK7 gene.
C. The chemical signal. D. The MdPDE1 gene.
23. Which sentence can be put in ▲ in Paragraph 4?
A. Many countries are interested in this new rice.
B. So how did scientists develop this kind of rice?
C. Farmers also took part in the new rice research.
D. The two genes are not helpful for common rice at all.
24. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The new rice may be of great help to farmers in the future.
B. Scientists have solved the problems of food safety already.
C. CRISPR-Cas9 is the only tool to improve rice genes at present.
D. The research result was published in a Chinese magazine in 2025.
25. What will the writer most probably talk about next?
A. How global warming started and how it hurts crops.
B. Why common rice cannot grow well in hot weather.
C. How this gene technology is different from other technologies.
D. What practical problems need solving before farmers grow the new rice.
D 22. D 23. B 24. A 25. D
根据文章第一段“Global (全球的) warming is bringing great trouble to food growth around the world and rice is especially easy to get hurt by high temperatures. It grows slowly and the production is much less. Many crops even dry up and die completely. This makes farmers have bad harvests and puts local food safety in danger.”
根据文章第三段“Next, this chemical signal travels inside the cell, reaches the MdPDE1 gene, and turns it on. Then the MdPDE1 gene helps the cell make a second chemical signal.”
根据文章第四段“To create this amazing rice, scientists used a special tool, CRISPR - Cas9, to improve these two genes. After many experiments, they carefully put the improved genes into rice plants.” B“So how did scientists develop this kind of rice?”
根据文章第四段“It also helps farmers get more harvests even in very hot years, bringing new hope to global food safety. However, there are still some practical problems to solve before it can help more farmers around the world.” 故选A。
根据文章第四段“However, there are still some practical problems to solve before it can help more farmers around the world.”
Giving Clear Directions: A Helpful Skill
Knowing how to give good directions is useful in everyday life. You may need to tell a friend how to come to your home, or help someone find a library or a park. But just knowing the way is not enough—you must explain it clearly. ____26____
Use Landmarks to Guide People
____27____ Instead, tell them to go from one easy-to-see place to another, like from a bank to a post office. This helps people follow the way and know they are still correct
Draw a Map If Needed
Sometimes words are not enough. If it is hard to explain, try drawing a map. ____28____ You can add important places like a supermarket, a school, or a traffic light. A map is also easy to keep and remember.
____29____
You might know a very short way, but it could be confusing for others. It is often better to give the easiest way, not the shortest. Even if it is a little longer, it is easier to follow clear landmarks. Usually, the easiest way has fewer turns and more straight roads.
Giving clear directions is an important skill. You need to know the place well. ____30____
A. Speak clearly and slowly.
B. Keep it simple, not short.
C. Here are some ways to help you.
D. How clearly you explain also makes a big difference.
E. A map helps the person see the way in their mind.
F. First, do not tell the whole way from start to end at once.
G. Always ask if they understand your directions.
C 27. F 28. E 29. B 30. D
根据“But just knowing the way is not enough—you must explain it clearly...”
根据“Use Landmarks to Guide People”和“...Instead, tell them to go from one easy-to-see place to another”可知,相反,告诉他们从一个容易看到的地方到另一个地方,是对前一句的纠正。
根据“try drawing a map...You can add important places”可知,试着画张地图,可以加上重要的地点,中间需要一句解释画地图好处的话,来说明画地图的作用。
根据“You might know a very short way, but it could be confusing for others. It is often better to give the easiest way, not the shortest. Even if it is a little longer, it is easier to follow clear landmarks. Usually, the easiest way has fewer turns and more straight roads.”
根据“Giving clear directions is an important skill. You need to know the place well...”

Reading and Travelling: Two Treasures in My Life
Reading and travelling have had a great effect on my daily life. I think they are both great ways to learn new things and relax myself in daily life.
My favourite book is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The story of Tom’s exciting adventures taught me to face challenges bravely and be kind to the people around me. Last summer, I travelled to a quiet small old town by the river. I walked along the stone-paved narrow streets and tried delicious local snacks. The warm and peaceful atmosphere there made the trip truly unforgettable.
From reading, I not only get a lot of knowledge but also learn good values. From travelling, I learn to slow down and enjoy life, and understand different cultures better. Together, they open my eyes to the world and make my life much more colourful.

“Look into my eyes. Felt me why. Have you found yourself listening to “ancient people” online recently?
Creative vloggers (视频博主) are using AI technology to bring famous people from history like Tang Dynasty poets Li Bai and Du Fu “back to life”.These videos have become popular, showing these ancient icons speaking in modern language.
In one video, Du Fu talks about his experience during the An-Shi portrait of LI Bai (AI) Rebellion (755——763). In another, Ming Dynasty medical expert (专家) LiShizhen makes fun of modern lifestyles like trying to be healthy by drinking goji berry (枸杞) water but still staying up late.
“These videos make me want to learn more about important ancient people. I didn’t know much about their stories before,” said Wang Jiayi, 15, from Shandong.
The new trend isn’t for everyone, however. The way these ancient people speak, in high tones (声调) and always asking questions, annoys (使心烦) some people. “They’re too pushy (压迫感的), which is different from how they really were,” said 14-year-old Wang Shutong fromJiangsu.
Xia Boen, 14, from Hubei, felt the same. But he was surprised to find that he “remembered almost everything they said about their experiences and achievements” because of the speaking style in the videos.
These videos use a more modern way to let ancient people “speak for themselves”. However, “we should be careful with these videos and make sure they are not sharing wrong information,” noted Nanfang Daily.
