Baduanjin Exercise—A Hit Among Young People
Baduanjin, a kind of exercise seen as an exclusive (专有的) sport among the aged, has gained popularity among the young in China. This special kind of exercise includes eight different movements.
Compared with more physically demanding activities such as the ball games, swimming or gym workouts (在健身房健身), Baduanjin is slow and usually accompanied (伴随) by relaxing music. As a result, it ’s perfect for office workers, as they often suffer from lower back and neck pain.
Travel Squad—Travel Like A Soldier
Recently, “travel squad” becomes a popular trip style in China. It means traveling like a soldier. Unlike the relaxing kind of traveling, this new kind of tourism features (以……为特色) visiting a lot of places of interest in a short time at a low cost, usually on weekends. Most of these visitors are college students.
“Such a trip can bring color to my stressful life.” said Chen, a 24-year-old university student. “Since it costs much energy (体力), it is not suitable for everyone.” she added.
Does it happen to you that you look around the house thinking, “How on earth do I have so many things?” However, we hardly ever stop to think: Do we really need all the things we buy? Can we live with less? Well, some young adults do think about it and start to change the way they live—they are minimalists. The point of Minimalism is not about having fewer things. It’s more of a way to help people pay attention to the things with more values because they have fewer things to focus on.

In Uganda, riding a motorbike was once seen as something only men could do. At least, that’s what Allen Kisakye Butundu was told when she said she wanted to learn. “People in the community were surprised to see a woman riding. Some even shouted at me or ran after me,” she said.
Two years ago, 27-year-old Allen decided to learn how to ride a motorbike. At first, she wanted to save money on travel between the capital, Kampala, and the rural areas (偏远地区) where she worked as a social worker. But now, she is one of the few women who ride “boda boda” (motorbike taxis) in Uganda.
Allen earns up to £10 a day by riding her motorbike, and she is the main breadwinner for her family supporting her children and her husband, who is a trained vet but often doesn’t have work. However, her journey hasn’t been easy in a society with difficult gender (性别) roles. Her husband refused completely when she asked him to teach her how to ride.
“________” Allen said. She stopped other boda boda riders on the road. In the end, other riders taught her. Her husband slowly accepted her new interest and even bought her a motorbike.
Last year, Allen became a full-time rider. She works from about 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. most days. She decided to leave her old job because riding a motorbike made it possible for her to pick her working hours.
Allen hopes her story will encourage more women in Uganda to start riding boda bodas. She decided to keep breaking gender boundaries (界限). “Those who talk, let them talk.” she laughs. “This woman is serious now. ”

We never think about it, but we all leave behind digital footprints (数字足迹) every day. This includes emails, social media accounts, cloud-stored photos, books, videos and music and even virtual (虚拟的) money.
All these things make up our “digital legacy (遗产)” . What should we do with it all when we say goodbye to this world? Can it be passed down?
Apple is now testing a new digital legacy service. With it, people can pick “legacy contacts” . These friends and family can visit their Apple accounts after their death. This way, people can pass down photos, videos and other valuable data.
However, the service has raised hot discussion. Some think it gives our loved ones something to remember us by. Our digital legacies can say something about our personalities. Some people have stayed connected with loved ones this way. At the age of 12, Xiaoqi (not his real name) lost his father, a big video game fan. Later, with the help of the game company, he logged on to (登录) his father’s game account, finding out he was a strong warrior (战士) in the game. “When I saw his back on the screen, it felt like he was there.”
Still, others think some parts of our digital legacy are too private to be shared. “Whether social media accounts, like WeChat and Sina Weibo, can be inherited ( 继承) is still questionable, because they are highly personal,” said Wang Cheng, a professor at Peking University Law School.
Zhou Caiyan, a 15-year-old from Hangzhou, Zhejiang, worries about this. “In general, I would like to pass down my digital legacy to my family members,” she said. “But I will first look through all the content (内容) and clear away things that are too personal.”
36. What is not included in the digital legacy?
A. Emails . B. Social media accounts.
C. Paper books . D. Cloud-stored music.
37. According to Xiaoqi, his father’s digital legacy helped him ________.
A. find his father B. remember his father
C. see his father D. finish the game for his father
38. In Paragraph 3, the underlined phrase legacy contacts probably means ________ .
A. the people who can be chosen to get the legacy B. the people who want to pass down the legacy
C. all the friends and family of the dead users D. some users of the Internet
39. Zhou Caiyan might agree with the idea that ________ .
A. her digital legacy is not important to talk about
B. no one is allowed to inherit her digital legacy
C. she will decide what makes up her digital legacy
D. a digital legacy is not enough for others to remember her
40. What is the main idea of this article?
A. The importance of digital legacy. B. What digital legacy is.
C. How to deal with digital legacy. D. How to share digital legacy with others.

第一段提到“Baduanjin, a kind of exercise seen as an exclusive (专有的) sport among the aged, has gained popularity among the young in China.”,八段锦这种原本是老年人专属的运动在年轻人中流行起来,这属于生活方式的范畴,所以可以在报纸的“Lifestyle”版块读到这则新闻。
第二段指出“Compared with more physically demanding activities such as the ball games, swimming or gym workouts (在健身房健身), Baduanjin is slow and usually accompanied (伴随) by relaxing music.”,与球类运动、游泳或在健身房健身这些耗费体力的活动相比,八段锦动作缓慢且通常伴有放松的音乐,说明伴随着放松音乐缓慢移动(即八段锦)耗费体力最少。
第三段提到“The point of Minimalism is not about having fewer things. It’s more of a way to help people pay attention to the things with more values because they have fewer things to focus on.”,极简主义的要点不是拥有更少的东西,而是一种帮助人们关注更有价值事物的方式,因为要关注的东西少了。B选项“Less Is More: The Power of Minimalism”符合第三则新闻主旨,可作为最佳标题。

31. Why did Butundu learn to ride a motorbike?
A. She was unhappy with her job. B. She was encouraged by her family.

42. order 43. lonely
44. kindness
45. depend on
下文提到治疗犬能“open and close a door, push a button”,这些能力需要后天训练。
根据“Therapy dogs may visit a school or hospital to help people”,可知治疗犬可在学校和医院为人们提供帮助。
上文提到“Their bad feelings can bring them health problems”,消极情绪对人的健康有害;由下文“which can then improve that person’s health”可知,治疗犬能为人类提供善意,提升人的精神状态从而改善健康。“kindness”符合语境。
【45题详解】
句意:许多人依靠服务动物提供帮助。根据句意,宾语“service animals”为主语“many people”提供帮助,是互相依靠的关系。动词短语“depend on”符合语境。
六、综合填空(共 10 小题,每小题 1 分,满分 10 分)
阅读下面短文,根据上下文或括号内单词等提示,在空白处填入适当的单词或括号内单词的适当形 式。
When I was 13, I had a lot of freckles (雀斑). I reached the age when I began to really pay attention to my looks. I couldn’t help ___46___ (think) about how I could make my skin perfect and life different. Then, on TV, I found the answer: an advertisement for a freckle-remover cream. I knew I was able to buy it ___47___ I saved money. And I made it. After three weeks of waiting, my freckle-remover cream came.
I went to my room secretly, and opened it ___48___ (careful) as if it was a treasure. I was sure that my freckles would ___49___ (appear) so I used the cream all over my body. Later that day I went farming. But there was something important I hadn’t noticed. That is, if you wear it in the sun, it seems to have ___50___ opposite effect. Instead of developing a perfect skin, you just get more and ___51___ (dark) freckles.
My mother knew nothing about the cream. When I returned ___52___ the field, she said, “I’ve never seen you with that many freckles before.” Looking at myself in the mirror, I cried and hid in the bathroom.

He looked at me in ___54___ (surprised) and said, “Child, using a freckle remover is just ____55____ (mean). All kinds of flowers are beautiful. Just believe in yourself.” I cried, “I’ve never seen a flower with freckles!”.
The next morning when I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was a tiger lily(虎皮百合花), pretty even with all the freckles!
46. thinking
47. if 48. carefully
49. disappear
50. the 51. darker
52. from 53. had happened
54. surprise
55. meaningless
固定搭配can’t help doing sth。
固定搭配have the opposite effect 表示“有相反效果”。
为了避免重复freckles,就简化成了more and darker freckles。
