A
Technology Is Transforming Travel
Thirty years ago, the world of travel was a simpler place where there were no online travel agents or seat-back inflight entertainment. But in the decades since, innovations in technology have completely transformed travel. Here are some impacts of travel tech.
Advantages
Boosting travel efficiency
48% of European travellers have used AI-powered tools to plan a trip, according to market research firm MMGY Travel Intelligence, while behind the scenes they are used by airlines to manage customer service and hotels to determine room prices.
Expanding travel experiences
Virtual reality (VR) allows travellers to ‘try before they buy’, using headsets that enable them to see and interact with a digitalized version of the real experience. It’s expected that 70% of travellers will use VR or a virtual tour to explore a destination ahead of their visit.
Making travel more inclusive
Wayfinding apps are used to provide 3D maps of major public spaces like stations. Supported by audio, they help travellers with visual or hearing impairments (损伤), limited mobility or simply those who may feel uneasy traveling in an unfamiliar environment.
Technology has changed travel for the better, but it’s important to note that there’s a negative side to the equation, too. Here are some examples.
Disadvantages
There are numerous instances of remote spots flooded by visitors after going viral (走红) on social media, like Trolltunga in Norway.
Because people are more focused on capturing their travel experiences for social media, they’re less engaged with the real experience of travelling — talking to locals, for example, or learning more about where they’re visiting.
Technology has improved greatly in the last few decades, but what’s next? “In the next year, we’ll see algorithms (算法) that predict your trip needs before you do,” says Jenny Southan, founder of trend forecasting company Globetrender. “In five years, travel tech and AI will emerge into virtual assistants: Journeys will feel continuous and invisible.”
21. Who may benefit most from wayfinding apps according to the text?
A. Social media lovers. B. Budget travelers.
C. People with disabilities. D. Adventure seekers.
22. What is a negative effect of social media on travel?
A. The risk of overtourism. B. Severe air pollution.
C. Much social interaction. D. Overdependence on tech.
23. What will be possible soon in travel tech in Southan’s opinion?
A. Lower efficiency. B. Smarter personalization.
C. Less virtual reality. D. Uncontrollable virtual assistants.

“Memory editing” sounds dark, bringing to mind threatening visions of erased histories or implanted lies. But in the lab, the reality is gentler and far more hopeful. The discovery of the ability to edit memory itself is teaching us how to heal the brain from within, including how to weaken wounding recollections, strengthen declining ones and rebalance emotions our memories carry.
Over the past decade, this work has revealed three principles. First, memories are malleable (可塑的) when being stored, recalled and restored. Second, they are distributed across the brain rather than in one region. Third, they can be artificially imprinted into the brain. Each principle reframes what “memory editing” really means.
When we form a memory, brain cells fire together and strengthen connections. That process can be enhanced or weakened with different patterns of stimulation. Drugs, hormones or even a bit of sugar can enhance the brain’s ability to stabilise new experiences. The same idea works in reverse. Overstimulate memory pathways, and a memory’s strength declines; block the molecules (分子) that strengthen connections, and it weakens more.
Because memories are spread across the brain, they are also remarkably resilient. Damage to one region rarely deletes an entire experience. Instead, the brain can reroute access through alternate pathways and call upon multiple “drafts” of the memory. This backup system offers hope for treating Alzheimer’s: if we can strengthen undamaged routes to a memory, we may repair pieces of identity once thought lost. Memory editing, then, isn’t about rewriting who we are — it is about giving the brain new paths back to itself.
While the idea raises ethical concerns as every major medical advance once did, the goal of our work is to reduce suffering and thereby improve our collective well-being: to help an ex-soldier loosen his hold on a flashback or someone with Alzheimer’s hold on to loved ones’ names.
Learning to reshape memory responsibly helps us heal, and the brain already edits memories every time we revisit them. Science today is simply learning the rules.
28. What can we learn about memory editing from Paragraph 1?
A. It erases unwanted histories and lies. B. It offers potential for brain healing.
C. It facilitates painful recollection. D. It controls emotional memories.
29. What can enhance a memory’s strength?
A. Blocking the molecules that stabilise memories. B. Reducing the stimulation to brain regions.
C. Reinforcing the links between brain cells. D. Shortening the time of brain cells firing.
30. The underlined word “resilient” in Paragraph 4 most probably means “______”.
A. hard to awaken B. limited in function C. flexible in structure D. not easily destroyed
31. What is the author’s attitude towards memory editing research?
A. Unconcerned. B. Neutral. C. Doubtful. D. Favorable.
【答案】28. B 29. C 30. D 31. D

【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“The discovery of the ability to edit memory itself is teaching us how to heal the brain from within, including how to weaken wounding recollections, strengthen declining ones and rebalance emotions our memories carry.(对记忆编辑能力的发现正在教会我们如何从内部修复大脑,包括如何淡化创伤性的记忆、强化衰退的记忆以及重新平衡记忆所承载的情绪)”可知,记忆编辑为大脑的修复提供了可能性。故选B。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“When we form a memory, brain cells fire together and strengthen connections. That process can be enhanced or weakened with different patterns of stimulation.(当我们形成记忆时,大脑细胞会协同工作并加强彼此之间的联系。这个过程可以通过不同的刺激模式来增强或削弱)”可知,加强脑细胞之间的联系能够增强记忆的强度。故选C。
【30题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“Damage to one region rarely deletes an entire experience. Instead, the brain can reroute access through alternate pathways and call upon multiple “drafts” of the memory.(一个区域受损通常不会导致整个记忆的丧失。相反,大脑能够通过其他路径重新建立连接,并调用记忆的多个“备份”版本)”可知,划线词后解释道:大脑单个区域受损很少会彻底删除一整个记忆,大脑可以通过替代路径重新获取记忆,由此可知记忆因为分布在大脑各处,不容易被破坏。故划线词意思是“不易受损”。故选D。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“While the idea raises ethical concerns as every major medical advance once did, the goal of our work is to reduce suffering and thereby improve our collective well-being: to help an ex-soldier loosen his hold on a flashback or someone with Alzheimer’s hold on to loved ones’ names.(尽管这一想法与以往每一次重大医学进步所引发的伦理问题一样,都存在一定的道德争议,但我们的研究目的却是为了减轻痛苦,从而提升我们的整体福祉:帮助一位退伍军人摆脱闪回的困扰,或者帮助患有阿尔茨海默病的人记住亲人的名字)”可知,作者对记忆编辑研究是支持态度。故选D。

Plants produce chemicals called alkaloids (生物碱) to protect themselves from threats. People rely on alkaloids for pain relief and other medical treatments. Scientists want to better understand how plants create alkaloids so they can develop medicines faster, at lower cost, and with less harm to the environment.
Researchers from the University of York focused on Flueggea suffruticosa, a plant that produces securinine — a powerful type of alkaloid. They uncovered that the key gene responsible for making securinine is similar to genes typically found in bacteria rather than in plants. This finding suggests that plants may have adopted an unusual evolutionary strategy. Instead of relying only on traditional plant chemistry, they appear to reuse molecular (分子的) tools commonly seen in microbes (微生物) to build defensive chemicals.
Dr. Benjamin Lichman, the lead researcher, explained why the discovery stood out. “Plants and bacteria are really different forms of life, and so it was a surprise to see that this significant plant chemical was being driven from a bacterial-like gene. We believe plants ‘recycle’ biological tools that are more commonly found in microbes, when they can be useful to them.” Once the researchers recognized this new chemical pathway, they began finding similar genes hidden within the DNA of many other plants. These plant genes could be used to produce valuable chemicals in laboratory settings, which would reduce the need to harvest rare plants.
Dr. Lichman noted that alkaloids could be poisonous, so they have to be highly controlled and often modified when used in medicines. He emphasized, “Understanding the process of creating alkaloids can help us develop new methods for producing them in the lab or removing them to make some plants less poisonous. Now that we know how to look for this chemical production, we have new methods to explore for the production and discovery of safe medications.”
32. What is a finding of the researchers about the gene producing securinine?
A. It evolves in a regular pattern. B. It is more like bacterial genes.
C. It defends plants from bacteria. D. It exists widely in common plants.
33. What can we infer from the discovery in paragraph 3?
A. Rare plants contains more alkaloids.
B. Plants produce chemicals from microbes.
C. Bacterial-like genes may exist in many plants.
D. Biological tools are unique to certain microbes.
34. What does the author try to explain by quoting Lichman in the last paragraph?
A. The practical value of the research.
B. The process of alkaloid production.
C. The challenges of lab-made chemicals.
D. The complexity of medical exploration.
35. Where is this text probably taken from?
A. A popular science magazine. B. A guide on plant identification.
C. A textbook for medical students. D. A research paper on microbiology.
【答案】32. B 33. C 34. A 35. A

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
The New Year is a time when people often set resolutions to start a new hobby and exercise more. But rather than always choose something new to do, researchers suggest maybe considering the opposite. “It’s time to reassess at the end of the year ‘____36____’” says Rachit Dubey from the University of California, Los Angeles.
____37____ “It’s human nature to set goals because goals give us direction. Goals represent some desired future end state,” says Dubey. But past goals may have become impractical to work toward. Maybe they feel too hard or they just no longer match what you want for your life now.
Continuing to work toward goals that don’t fit can create guilt and stress. Worse still, the time and effort spent trying may prevent you seeing other options. But breaking up with a goal and moving on can be messy and painful. ____38____
A recent study surveyed over 500 university students over nine months. In the beginning, the team asked participants about a long-term goal they were quitting. To assess inner drive, the team asked participants to rate statements such as, “____39____” Statements like “People have been telling me I have to let this goal go” assessed outside pressures to quit. With the study progressing, the team assessed how “stuck” a person was. People who were quitting primarily due to outside pressures tended to get more stuck than those who were self-driven.
People don’t just wake up one day, saying, “I’m done” and move on to their next adventure. But what’s clear is that holding on to an outgrown goal can do more harm than good. ____40____ And finding a new path forward may first require the courage to say, “I think I can’t.”

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍新年目标设定的新观点,建议人们放弃不再适合的旧目标,而非一味追求新目标。
【36题详解】
根据前文“The New Year is a time when people often set resolutions to start a new hobby and exercise more. But rather than always choose something new to do, researchers suggest maybe considering the opposite.(新年是人们常常制定计划、培养新爱好、加强锻炼的时刻。但研究人员建议,与其总是选择新的事情去做,不如考虑相反的方向。)”可知,前文提出新年不应只追求新目标,而要反向思考舍弃不再需要的事物,E选项“What is something I don’t need in my life anymore?(生活中还有什么是我不再需要的?)”与前文“考虑相反方向”的观点完全契合,是年末重新评估时应思考的问题,符合语境。故选E项。
【37题详解】
根据后文““It’s human nature to set goals because goals give us direction. Goals represent some desired future end state,” says Dubey.(杜比说:“设定目标是人的天性,因为目标能给我们方向。目标代表着某种理想的未来最终状态。”)”可知,后文详细解释了目标对人的重要作用,C选项“Goals serve an important role in our lives.(目标在我们的生活中起着重要作用。)”总领本段内容,引出后文对目标重要性的具体论述,符合语境。故选C项。
【38题详解】
根据前文“Continuing to work toward goals that don’t fit can create guilt and stress. Worse still, the time and effort spent trying may prevent you seeing other options. But breaking up with a goal and moving on can be messy and painful.(坚持追求不适合的目标会产生愧疚感和压力。更糟糕的是,为此付出的时间和精力可能会让你看不到其他选择。但放弃一个目标并继续前行可能是混乱且痛苦的。)”可知,前文既说了坚持旧目标的危害,又强调了放弃目标的痛苦,F选项“So sometimes, letting go can be tougher than sticking it out.(所以有时候,放手比坚持下去更难。)”是对前文内容的总结,突出放弃目标的难度,符合语境。故选F项。
【39题详解】
根据前文“To assess inner drive, the team asked participants to rate statements such as,(为了评估内在动力,研究团队让参与者对诸如这样的陈述进行评分)”以及后文“Statements like “People have been telling me I have to let this goal go” assessed outside pressures to quit.(像“人们一直告诉我我必须放弃这个目标”这样的陈述用来评估放弃的外部压力。)”可知,此空需要填写代表内在主动放弃的句子,B选项“This goal no longer reflects who I am.(这个目标不再符合我现在的样子。)”是发自内心的判断,属于内在驱动力,与后文外部压力形成对应,符合语境。故选B项。
【40题详解】
根据前文“But what’s clear is that holding on to an outgrown goal can do more harm than good.(但显而易见的是,坚持一个已经过时的目标弊大于利。)”可知,前文指出死守不再适合的旧目标没有好处,G选项“Cutting ties can clear space in your life to pursue what matters to you.(放弃旧目标能为你的生活腾出空间,去追求对你真正重要的事情。)”说明了放弃旧目标的积极意义,与前文形成逻辑衔接,符合语境。故选G项。

第二节 (满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Why are you wearing your red dress?” asked Sherry, my classmate in sixth grade. The look on my face must have indicated that I didn’t understand the question. She asked again, “Your red dress... Why are you wearing it? Today is a blue-dress day.”
I rarely noticed what other people wore, so it never occurred to me that anyone would notice I had only two school dresses: a red dress with little yellow flowers and a blue one with navy trim around the neck. The red dress was my favorite, so I wore it on Mondays and Tuesdays. I put on the blue one on Wednesdays and Thursdays, then back to red each Friday.
“Oh,” I stammered (结结巴巴地说). “I, uh, dropped chili (辣椒) on it yesterday at lunch. I, uh, can’t wear it until Mama washes it.”
There was no judgment in Sherry’s question, just curiosity. For the first time in my life, though, I wondered, “Am l poor? Do my friends feel sorry for me?”
Until the day when Sherry asked about my red dress, I had never compared my clothes, my little white house, or my life with anyone else’s.
After school, I hung my red dress in the closet I shared with my older sister, Debra. I put on play clothes and went outside to sulk (生闷气). I climbed to the lowest branch of a scrawny oak and stared at my house.
My mother called through the screen door for me to come set the table. I climbed down from my tree and shuffled into the kitchen. Mama was mashing potatoes in a big, green bowl.
I opened a cabinet door and reached for five dinner plates. “Mama, are we poor?” I asked.
I thought my question might make her feel bad. Instead, she asked, “What do you mean by’ poor’?”
“You know, not enough money. Not enough food or clothes. No place to live.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“We don’t have a lot of extra money,” she answered, “but we get by.”
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After dinner, Mama said to me, “I washed and ironed your blue dress today.”
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】参考范文:
“We don’t have a lot of extra money,” she answered, “but we get by.” Look around, we have a roof over our heads, food on the table, and clothes on our backs. She continued, “Your father works hard, and I take care of this home. We love each other, and that’s what matters most. There will always be people with more, but that doesn’t make us poor. We have what we need.” I listened intently, understanding dawning on me. Her words made me feel better. I realized being poor wasn’t about clothes or money.
After dinner, Mama said to me, “I washed and ironed your blue dress today.” She paused a moment and continued, “You can wear it tomorrow if you want.” I considered the offer. “No, I want to wear the red dress again. Its little yellow flowers make me feel good,” I replied. Enough to get by? Oh, I had more than that. I was fortunate with an amazing mother. She worked hard, played hard, and loved easily. Despite the hard blows of life, Mama chose joy and contentment. I was rich in every way that mattered.

Professor Zhang Liangren from the School of History at Nanjing University has found a unique and engaging way to impact historical and archaeological knowledge to the public through food vlogs. His approach, combining culinary delights (美味佳肴) with fascinating historical insights, has taken China’s social media by storm, attracting a wide audience and winning praise for its innovative method of storytelling.
Before delving into (研究) food vlogging, Professor Zhang Liangren usually dined at the school cafeteria or restaurants near his community, rarely going beyond a five-kilometer distance from his home. However, since he started making food vlogs in the summer of 2023, he has been exploring the world extensively, dining at a variety of restaurants that were previously unknown to him. Zhang Liangren frankly admits that he is far from being a qualified “foodie”. He enjoys good food, but has not yet reached the point of searching everywhere for it. What truly led him onto the path of a food vlogger was his passion for archaeology. While watching Zhang taste the food, viewers can listen to him explaining the historical stories behind the dishes. Although the food cannot be immediately tasted, the spiritual nourishment of archaeology has satisfied the taste buds of netizens, who have exclaimed their satisfaction.
Speaking of the situation at the beginning of filming,Zhang Liangren admitted, “Because I rarely did these things before, I was quite uncomfortable in front of the camera at first. My Mandarin was not very good either, so my speech and movements were very stiff. But gradually, I got used to it and overall, it’s much better than before.”
As for which places he prefers to visit for check-ins, Zhang Liangren states that he prefers shops with a certain level of fame, “It must be down-to-earth, the kind of place that caters to the common people.” He mentioned that he usually chooses small stalls or shops with a long history and good reputation. Sometimes he also selects based on festivals, tasting the food while narrating the methods of preparation and the cultural significance behind the dishes.
24. What is most Chinese audiences’ attitude to Professor Zhang’s food vlogs?
A. Doubtful. B. Approving.
C. Unconcerned. D. Hopeful.
25. Why does Professor Zhang become a food vlogger?
A. He is popular among the netizens. B. He intends to share various food.
C. He is fascinated with archaeology. D. He considers himself a qualified foodie.
26. What kind of shops will Professor Zhang choose for his vlogs?
A. Time-honored brand stores. B. Reputable chain stores.
C. Shops full of influencers. D. Unknown small stalls or shops.
27. Which of the following can best describe Professor Zhang?
A. Passionate and humble. B. Sympathic and generous.
C. Innovative and devoted. D. Knowledgeable and gifted.

B. Neutral. C. Doubtful. D. Favorable.
D

A. I feel torn about letting go of this goal.
B. This goal no longer reflects who I am.
C. Goals serve an important role in our lives.
D. Can I replace my past goals with new achievable ones?
E. What is something I don’t need in my life anymore?
F. So sometimes, letting go can be tougher than sticking it out.
G. Cutting ties can clear space in your life to pursue what matters to you.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“We don’t have a lot of extra money,” she answered, “but we get by.”
