Professor Zhang Liangren from the School of History at Nanjing University has found a unique and engaging way to impact historical and archaeological knowledge to the public through food vlogs. His approach, combining culinary delights (美味佳肴) with fascinating historical insights, has taken China’s social media by storm, attracting a wide audience and winning praise for its innovative method of storytelling.
Before delving into (研究) food vlogging, Professor Zhang Liangren usually dined at the school cafeteria or restaurants near his community, rarely going beyond a five-kilometer distance from his home. However, since he started making food vlogs in the summer of 2023, he has been exploring the world extensively, dining at a variety of restaurants that were previously unknown to him. Zhang Liangren frankly admits that he is far from being a qualified “foodie”. He enjoys good food, but has not yet reached the point of searching everywhere for it. What truly led him onto the path of a food vlogger was his passion for archaeology. While watching Zhang taste the food, viewers can listen to him explaining the historical stories behind the dishes. Although the food cannot be immediately tasted, the spiritual nourishment of archaeology has satisfied the taste buds of netizens, who have exclaimed their satisfaction.
Speaking of the situation at the beginning of filming,Zhang Liangren admitted, “Because I rarely did these things before, I was quite uncomfortable in front of the camera at first. My Mandarin was not very good either, so my speech and movements were very stiff. But gradually, I got used to it and overall, it’s much better than before.”
As for which places he prefers to visit for check-ins, Zhang Liangren states that he prefers shops with a certain level of fame, “It must be down-to-earth, the kind of place that caters to the common people.” He mentioned that he usually chooses small stalls or shops with a long history and good reputation. Sometimes he also selects based on festivals, tasting the food while narrating the methods of preparation and the cultural significance behind the dishes.
4. What is most Chinese audiences’ attitude to Professor Zhang’s food vlogs?
A. Doubtful. B. Approving.
C. Unconcerned. D. Hopeful.
5. Why does Professor Zhang become a food vlogger?
A. He is popular among the netizens. B. He intends to share various food.
C. He is fascinated with archaeology. D. He considers himself a qualified foodie.
6. What kind of shops will Professor Zhang choose for his vlogs?
A. Time-honored brand stores. B. Reputable chain stores.
C. Shops full of influencers. D. Unknown small stalls or shops.
7. Which of the following can best describe Professor Zhang?
A. Passionate and humble. B. Sympathic and generous.
C. Innovative and devoted. D. Knowledgeable and gifted.

Many people know that the study and appreciation of comics (漫画) have a long history — early appreciators the medium include Geothe and Picasso. But it is only recently that this is being translated into courses and research that do not disguise (伪装) themselves as something else, but rather lay proud claim to comics studies as a subject.
There are several reasons for this rise in popularity. Comics have achieved a hard-fought-for degree of critical respectability since the “graphic novel” boom of the mid-1980s. Award-wining and innovative works have been recognized as accomplished works of art and literature. Over recent years they have crept into university reading lists worldwide, and across a range of subjects, from literature courses to history and media studies. At the other end of the scale, comics have provided the inspiration for many top-grossing films and acclaimed television series. A new confidence is to be found in the industry, and in the wider world of comics.
It was these developments that led me to launch a master’s program in comics studies. The course combines the academic study of comics with practical assessments, allowing students to create comics as well as research them. Of course, there were some predictable claims that universities are “dumbing down” in order to recruit (招收) more widely. Fortunately, such prejudices about comics being “just for kids” now seem out of date.
Comics have a lot to offer teachers and school pupils as I have seen in the workshops I have organized for local schools. They can break down disciplinary divides and enable discussions that cross between literature, art, history, politics, media and so on. The value that universities now place on creative thinking across subjects could be embedded (嵌入) much earlier, and using a medium that reflects forms and influences from many cultures. Comics are also a powerful educational tool for assisting readers with dyslexia or autism who may have difficulty processing text.
We do not yet take advantage of the power of comics to educate, inspire and challenge students. The ever-increasing number of comics scholars worldwide aim to change that.
8. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. The reasons for the popularity of comics. B. The launch of a program in comics studies.
C. The rise and great value of comics studies. D. The enduring appeal and study of comics.
9. Why did the author launch a master’s program in comics studies?
A. Because there are few comics scholars.
B. Because comics studies has a long tradition.
C. Because universities want to recruit more students.
D. Because the comics industry has developed significantly.
10. What does the underlined phrase “dumbing down” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Making things more interesting. B. Paying more attention to skills.
C. Focusing on students’ creativity. D. Lowering academic standards.
11. What can we infer from the passage about comics?
A. They are mainly aimed at children.
B. They can be used in literature and art courses.
C. They can help students with learning difficulties.
D. They have always been highly regarded in academic fields.

A bat and a ball cost $1.10 in total. The bat costs $1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost? If you answered 10 cents, you’re not alone — most people give the same answer (the correct answer is 5 cents). The bat and ball question helps explain why we often believe in fake news. It is part of human nature to believe, says Sloman. But “the trick with fake news is to know to verify (证实)” — in other words, to stop and question what you know.
In one experiment, Sloman and a colleague invented a discovery called helium rain. They told a group of volunteers about it, but admitted they could not fully explain what it was. They then asked the volunteers to rate their own understanding of helium rain. Most volunteers rated themselves 1 out of 7, meaning they did not understand the concept. The researchers then told another group of volunteers about the discovery. This time, they said that scientists could fully explain how it works. When asked to rate their understanding, the volunteers gave an average answer of 2. The scientists’ confidence gave the volunteers an increased sense of their own understanding, Sloman says.
According to Sloman, studies show that knowledge spreads like a contagion (传染病). This idea can be seen in many fields, including politics. “If everyone around you is saying they understand why a politician is dishonest,” Sloman says, “then you’re going to start thinking that you understand, too.” Another explanation for the spread of fake news is “motivated reasoning”, writes Adam Waytz, a management professor at the Kellogg School. We are naturally more likely to believe things that confirm our existing opinions. If you already have a negative opinion about someone, you’re more likely to trust damaging stories about them.
So, in a world where misleading information is common, is there a way to protect ourselves? “I don’t think it’s possible to train individuals to verify everything that they encounter,” Sloman admits. However, training people to care about fact — checking is important, he argues, especially in online communities. “Develop a norm in your community that says, ‘We should check things and not just take them at face value,’” Sloman says. “Verify before you believe.”
12. Why does the author mention the bat and ball question in paragraph 1?
A. People respond quickly without thinking.
B. People forget what they learned in school.
C. People give multiple answers to a question.
D. People tend to overcomplicate simple problems.
13. More volunteers claimed to understand helium rain when______.
A. some volunteers explained it to them
B. they believed scientists fully understood it
C. they received a detailed description of how it works
D. Sloman and his colleagues showed them how it worked
14. Which of the following is an example of “motivated reasoning”?
A You share your opinion about a news story.
B. You search online to verify a social media story.
C. You trust a story because many friends shared it.
D. You ignore a negative story about a player you like
15. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Stop, Question and Verify
B. The Influence of Fake News
C. Rate, Explain and Understand
D. The Spread of Fake News

If you find that it’s challenging to decrease your cellphone use, know that it’s not because you have poor willpower. “It’s hard to change your habits around your phone use because our phones are deliberately designed to hack (侵入) our brains and make it difficult to turn away,” Catherine Price claimed. ____16____
Think about your “why”. Price recommends that you figure out a positive goal to focus on. “In other words, instead of trying to restrict your phone use because you feel you ‘should’, ask yourself what you want to be spending your time and attention on,” Price said. You can also look at this as your “why”. Next, identify how your phone is interfering with your priorities. ____17____ So, if your priority is reading new books but you find yourself scrolling social media instead, get your phone out of your bedroom.
Turn on your phone’s grayscale (灰度) setting. One science-backed way to make your phone less interesting is by turning on the grayscale feature. The bright colors and movement on a screen hit our dopamine receptors (多巴胺受体). ____18____ In fact, a 2022 study found that those who turned on their grayscale setting were less tempted to pick up their phone when compared to those who did not use this tool.
____19____ The sound of incoming texts and emails is hard to ignore. “If you have your phone on loud and you have messages going, the minute you see that screen light up or you hear that little ding, you immediately stop to check it,” Price said. It can be helpful to put your phone on silent to avoid this.
Move your phone away from your body. When something is constantly within your view it’s only natural to want to reach for it. ____20____ You can try leaving your phone upstairs or putting it in the kitchen drawer while you watch a movie with your family. This isn’t easy, so if it takes a few tries, that is OK.

Jenny always admired powerful and attractive marathon runners and dreamed that one day she could also run a marathon.
To make it, one day, she began to seriously prepare. At first, she only set the small goal of running one kilometer each morning. However, she still found it tiring and soon gave up running. As days went on, her weight gradually increased. Upset about her health, she finally decided to lose weight by doing exercise. She began running again.
As usual, in the following days, her big problem with exercising was always how to stay motivated. She tried to find guidance from running experts and books. And everything she read indicated that she’d better pair up with a running partner. She followed the advice, but human exercise companions always let her down. Her last exercise companion quit with excuses like, “It’s my turn to do the dishes” at six o’clock in the morning! She hated to admit it, but she had made similar excuses to others and disappointed them in similar ways.
Then Brucie appeared in Jenny’s life, a birthday gift from her husband, John. John couldn’t work out with Jenny because he had a bad back. So that job was left to Brucie, a yellow dog. Brucie was quite energetic, which made him destined(注定的) to be a running partner.
In the beginning, Brucie and Jenny ran only fifty paces at a time, each set mixed with one hundred paces of walking. “I don’t look foolish starting this way,” thought Jenny, “because Brucie’s bones are too young to make him run much harder.” She was right, and Brucie’s early limitations gave her time to start slowly without feeling awkward.
After about nine months, though, Brucie was old enough to run several miles a day and Jenny was fit enough to keep up. From spring to autumn, they logged the miles together every day. However, as winter approached and the weather got colder, maintaining a daily running routine required lots of dedication and determination. And Jenny started to think the dog would be like her previous human partners and that she couldn’t count on the little dog for help with motivation.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150词左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
What happened later proved that Jenny was wrong.

Comics have a lot to offer teachers and school pupils, as I have seen in the workshops I have organized for local schools.
【答案】8. C 9. D 10. D 11. C

【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“There are several reasons for this rise in popularity. Comics have achieved a hard-fought-for degree of critical respectability since the “graphic novel” boom of the mid-1980s. Award-wining and innovative works have been recognized as accomplished works of art and literature. At the other end of the scale, comics have provided the inspiration for many top-grossing films and acclaimed television series. A new confidence is to be found in the industry, and in the wider world of comics. 以及第三段“It was these developments that led me to launch a master’s program in comics studies.
A. You share your opinion about a news story.
B. You search online to verify a social media story.
C. You trust a story because many friends shared it.
D. You ignore a negative story about a player you like
15. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Stop, Question and Verify
B. The Influence of Fake News
C. Rate, Explain and Understand
D. The Spread of Fake News
【答案】12. A 13. B 14. D 15. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了人们为何会轻信假新闻,以及如何应对假新闻。
【12题详解】

【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“In one experiment, Sloman and a colleague invented a discovery called helium rain. They told a group of volunteers about it, but admitted they could not fully explain what it was. They then asked the volunteers to rate their own understanding of helium rain. Most volunteers rated themselves 1 out of 7, meaning they did not understand the concept. 【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据最后一段中“Verify before you believe. (在相信之前先核实)”可知,文章主要讨论了人们为何会轻信假新闻,并提出了应对策略,即在相信之前先核实信息。A选项“Stop, Question and Verify (停止、质疑和核实)”最符合文章主旨。故选A。

第二节 (满分 25 分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

1. 续写词数应为150词左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

No matter how cold and dark it was, he would always eagerly wait by her side, ready to start their daily run together. His unwavering dedication and enthusiasm served as a constant reminder of the commitment she had made to herself, helping her maintain her motivation even in the toughest conditions.
One spring morning, Jenny started her first marathon, accompanied by Brucie. The race was challenging, but with each step she took, she felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and gratitude. She knew that without Brucie’s unwavering support and companionship, she would never have been able to achieve this incredible milestone. As they crossed the finish line together, Jenny couldn’t help but feel a deep connection with her loyal running partner, who had not only helped her achieve her dream but also taught her the true meaning of perseverance and determination.
