Anger is a common feeling. Many parents feel worried when their children get angry. To make them quiet, they often say, “Stop it!” “It’s not a big deal,” or “Don’t cry over little things.” These words may make children think anger is always a bad thing.
If children never see their parents show anger in a right way, they may learn to hide their feelings. This sets a bad example. If parents shout when they are angry, kids will be afraid of this feeling. So it is important to teach children to deal with anger in a healthy way.
First, parents should set a good example. Parents can only guide their kids well when they control their own anger first.
It is not right to stop children from talking about their feelings. When kids say they are angry but parents tell them not to be, they may think their feelings are not acceptable. Instead, parents should let them talk about their anger freely.
Anger is not always bad. Parents can help children find the real reason and show it properly. In fact, anger is a natural feeling. Guiding kids to face and show anger correctly helps them grow into healthy and independent (独立的) people.
4. What do parents often say to make their children quiet?

Wind is the movement of air. We cannot see it, but we can feel it when air moves fast. Air is made of light and small things such as nitrogen (氮气). When these things move together in the same direction, wind is formed.
Wind mainly comes from the differences of air pressure (压力) on the Earth. Air pressure changes with temperature: warm air goes up while cool air comes down. Wind forms when air moves from places with high pressure to places with low pressure. The Earth’s spin (地球自转) also changes the direction of wind.
To study wind, we need to know its direction and speed. Wind direction tells us where the wind comes from. We use an anemometer (风速仪) to get wind speed, in units like kilometers an hour. There are winds around the whole world and local winds.
Wind is also a kind of clean energy (能源). We can use it to make power. Different from traditional energy, wind energy brings no pollution. So it’s very important for protecting the environment. What’s more, the shapes of land such as mountains and lakes can also change the way local winds blow.
8. What makes wind form according to the passage?
A. Too much air around the Earth.
B. The air becoming warmer and warmer.
C. Air moving from places with high pressure to places with low pressure.
9. What do people use to get wind speed?
A. Wind direction.
B. An anemometer.
C. Different shapes of land.
10. Which of the following is TRUE about wind energy?
A. It brings serious pollution.
B. It is a kind of clean energy.
C. It works better than traditional energy.
11. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How to use wind energy.
B. Basic facts and uses of wind.
C. Different kinds of land shapes.
【答案】8. C 9. B 10. B 11. B
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍了一些风的基本事实和用途,包括它的形成、测量以及作为清洁能源的使用。
【8题详解】

【9题详解】
根据第三段“We use an anemometer (风速仪) to get wind speed.”,人们使用风速仪来测量风速。
【10题详解】

Chinese and English are very different. They grew in their own ways, with different writing systems (系统) and pronunciation rules. But here’s an interesting fact: ____12____
____13____ It has many different forms, and Putonghua is the most widely used one. English started in Britain around 100 AD. It came from mixing local languages, old German, Latin and other European languages. That’s why English words often sound easy to understand for people who speak other European languages.
Chinese uses characters (汉字). Each character stands for a sound, a word or an idea. Learning to read Chinese needs a good memory (记忆). ____14____ You have to learn each character’s shape, meaning and pronunciation one by one.
English uses letters. Each letter or group of letters has its own sounds. When you put letters together, you get a word. Once you learn the rules, you can usually read new words correctly.
Tones (声调) also work differently. Chinese has four tones, and each tone changes a word’s meaning. In English, tone only shows stress (重音) or the speaker’s feeling.
____15____ Besides, it can help us understand different cultures and open up a new world.
A. Learning them is valuable.
B. Learning them helps relax.
C. Writing it needs much practice.
D. Chinese started around 1,000 BC.
E. Both are the most widely spoken languages.
【答案】12. E 13. D 14. C 15. A
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍了汉语和英语在起源、书写系统、发音规则等方面的差异以及学习它们的价值。

【13题详解】
后面介绍英语起源于公元100年左右的英国,这里应该是介绍中文的起源时间。D选项“Chinese started around 1,000 BC.”与之对应,介绍了中文的起源。
【14题详解】
前文说学习阅读中文需要好的记忆力,后文说必须一个一个学习每个汉字的形状、意义和发音。C选项“Writing it needs much practice.”,这里的“it”指代中文,说明中文学习在书写方面也有特点,承上启下。
【15题详解】
后文说“此外,它可以帮助我们理解不同的文化并打开一个新世界”,这里应该是总结学习中文和英文的价值。A选项“Learning them is valuable.”符合语境,“them”指代中文和英文。

make up one’s mind意为“下定决心”,所以选mind。

最后”,at the start of“在……开始时”,in the middle of“在……中间”,所以选end。
【24题详解】
句意:它用微弱的声音虚弱地问,‘那家宠物店不卖任何食物吗?’”
根据前文in a low voice可知鹦鹉用微弱的声音说话,weakly“微弱地”;strongly“强烈地”;badly“严重地”,所以选weakly。
【25题详解】
句意:有时候我们每天跑来跑去,忙于各种各样的事情,但我们却忘记了首先去做最重要和最必要的事情。

Chen Qigang is a well-known Chinese composer (作曲家). His life is full of his deep love for art and heartbreaking personal experiences.
Born in 1951, he studied music both in China and France. He soon became well-known around the world for his great musical talent. Unluckily, in 2012, he was seriously ill and had to stay in hospital for a long time. Worse still, he later lost his only son. It was a very hard time for Chen, but he never gave up his love for art. He believed that true art comes from the heart, not from others’ praise. This strong spirit has been guiding him all the time.
Chen cared most about the quality of art. When he worked for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he stuck to his own artistic ideas. In 2017, he even canceled his work just before its first show, because the practice didn’t meet his high standards. For him, the quality of art mattered more than money, time or pride.
Later, Chen lived in the countryside, but he never stopped composing. The film Hidden Mountain River tells the story of his hard life and his artistic dignity (尊严). His story tells us: an artist’s ability is not avoiding pain, but making beauty from it.
He is just like an unbreakable backbone (脊骨) in the field of art: bent (弯曲) by the hard turns of life, but never broken.

A. Anger is a natural feeling.
B. Don’t cry over little things.
C. Talk about your anger freely.
5. What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Hiding their feelings.
B. Talking with their parents.
C. Showing their anger in a brave way.
6. What may happen if parents always tell kids not to be angry?
A. Kids will never get angry.
B. Kids will show their anger bravely.
C. Kids will think their anger is unacceptable.
7. What is the most important thing parents should do according to the passage?
A. Shout loudly when they are angry.
B. Stop kids from showing their feelings.
C. Set a good example of dealing with anger.
C
