Text 9 学前教育BCA
W: ⑭Mark, I’ve been stressed about preschool options for my daughter Mia. What do you think is the most important?
M: For me, ⑭the key is to keep a balance between play and structure. I went through that with Leo. His preschool mixed free play with simple lessons.
W: Some schools push ABCs early, but is that good?
M: Research shows social skills matter more. Leo learned to share toys and follow routines, which we couldn’t easily teach at home.
W: ⑮What if Mia struggles with separation? I worry she’ll cry every morning.
M: ⑮Leo used to cry when I tried to leave. His teacher, Mrs. Swenson, had a special goodbye routine—a high five, and then she distracted him by showing building blocks. By week six, he gave me a quick hug and ran in happily.
W: Maybe I should visit some schools. I want to see their sports facilities and how the teachers interact with the kids.
M: ⑯Watch if teachers bend down to talk to the kids at eye level. That warmth makes all the difference.

W: ⑰⑲A German man has broken a world record by spending 120 days living underwater. Rudiger Koch lived in a 30-square-meter capsule in the sea near Panama. He wanted to show that people might be able to live under the sea in the future.
Koch said living underwater wasn’t actually too difficult. He had a bed, a small TV and a computer that was connected to the Internet. He also had an exercise bike to keep fit. ⑱One thing he didn’t have was a shower. The 59-year-old said it was a “great adventure”.
⑲After Koch came out of the capsule, beating the previous record by 20 days, he enjoyed some champagne and then jumped into the Caribbean Sea.
With the world facing challenges linked to climate change and overpopulation, some people are looking up to space to see whether humans could live on Mars. But others are looking down—underwater. ⑳A UK company called Deep has said it wants to have some scientists live underwater by 2027.

Jane Austen is a phenomenon. Her writings, and the houses, museums, and other locations linked to her life and work, open a window into the past. Today, adaptations, exhibitions, and new readings of her works bring us fresh ways to understand her, and more information about the late 18th and early 19th centuries — a period sometimes called the Austenian age.
Austen was born in 1775 in Hampshire. She lived there for 25 years, then moved to Bath, Southampton, and later Chawton. She also traveled to visit friends, relatives, and coastal places. Though not wealthy, her life was filled with books: she wrote stories, put on plays, and read aloud in the evenings. She received more education than her sister, Cassandra, as their father let her use his large book collection. In 1797, her father sent her work to a publisher, but it was turned down. Still, she kept writing. Her first novel, Sense and Sensibility, was published anonymously in 1811 under the name “By A Lady.” Later, Pride and Prejudice came out, and it sold out quickly. After she died in 1817, her brother Henry published her remaining works, saying her sense of humor was often ignored.
Austen left six finished novels, some unfinished works and letters. This “what if” — what she might have written next — is a key reason we’re so fascinated by her. One big mystery: she never married, even though marriage meant stability and happiness in her time. Only around 160 of her letters survive, so people try hard to learn about her inner life. They often remember her as cheerful, but her sister spoke of her sadness in later years.
Her popularity has lasted over 200 years, reaching across countries. There are many adaptations of her novels. Her works are not just romantic — they also show big changes of her age, like wars and the Industrial Revolution. These topics are still relevant today, which keeps her attraction strong. Now, 250 years after her birth, our interest in Jane Austen is as lively as ever.
24. What can we infer from paragraph 1 about Jane Austen?
A. The “Austenian age” was shaped by her.
B. Her influence reaches beyond her books alone.
C. Her life is better understood through exhibitions.
D. Interpretations of her works offer a clear view of her time.
25. What does the underlined word “anonymously” probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A. With support from her family. B. Using a well-known pen name.
C. Without showing her real name. D. Under the publisher’s direction.
26. What does the text reveal about Austen’s literary works?
A. They reflected broad social changes. B. They gained widespread early fame.
C. They earned her considerable wealth. D. They illustrated her personal struggles.
27. How does the author present Jane Austen to the readers?
A. By following a strict timeline. B. By comparing with other writers.
C. By citing experts’ academic reviews. D. By connecting facts with influence.
【答案】24. B 25. C 26. A 27. D

A recent study from psychologist Sarah Kucker at Oklahoma State University suggests shyness can influence a child’s performance in language tests, depending on the level of social interaction (互动交流) required to complete the test.
Shy children tend to keep quiet in everyday life, including communicating with others. The study points out that the behavior can make judging a child’s language abilities more challenging since shy children find it harder to verbally engage with testers (that’s when children are required to speak out) than during less socially demanding tests.
The research by Sarah Kucker was published in the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, and involved 122 children between the ages of 17 and 42 months. Each child underwent a series of three language tasks that required different levels of social interaction: a looking task, a pointing task, and a verbal task. In each, the children were asked to find a known object from a set of pictures. Parents reported their child’s shyness in an early childhood behavior survey.
The results showed significant differences in children’s performance across the tasks depending on shyness. Shyer children did worse in the verbal task than the less-shy children of the same age. However, all children performed well in the pointing task independent of their shyness level. The looking task produced more complicated results, meaning that shyer children were occasionally more accurate (精确的) but less likely to respond.
“A child’s shyness could strongly impact how they will behave in language tasks, ” said Kucker. “When children are given language ability tests, testers should take into account the child’s shyness level, perhaps using tasks that are less socially demanding for them, such as pointing tasks instead of verbal ones. ”
Kucker believes recognizing the impact of shyness will help to ensure language tests are more effective and provide a better understanding of a child’s language development.
28. What does the underlined word “verbally” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. In written forms. B. With chosen pictures.
C. In spoken words. D. With hand gestures.
29. What do we know about the research according to the text?
A. The children took one of three language tests. B. The children were asked to speak in each test.
C. Shyer children did worse in most of the tests. D. Shyer children did well in less interactive tests.
30. Which of the following may Kucker agree with?
A. Language test results are not accurate. B. The level of language tests is too high.
C. The child’s shyness level needs considering. D. It’s unnecessary to take a language test.
31. Where is this text most likely from?
A. A fairy tale about children’s growth. B. A travel guide for family activities.
C. A science fiction novel on education. D. A journal on child development.
【答案】28. C 29. D 30. C 31. D

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了莎拉·库克尔的一项研究表明,害羞会影响孩子在语言测试中的表现,测试时应考虑孩子的害羞程度。
【28题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段“Shy children tend to keep quiet in everyday life, including communicating with others. The study points out that the behavior can make judging a child’s language abilities more challenging since shy children find it harder to verbally engage with testers (that’s when children are required to speak out) than during less socially demanding tests.(害羞的孩子在日常生活中倾向于保持安静,包括与他人交流。该研究指出,这种行为使得判断孩子的语言能力更具挑战性,因为害羞的孩子发现与测试者进行verbally交流(即要求孩子说出来的时候)比在社交要求较低的测试中更难)”可知,这里说的是害羞的孩子在需要口头表达时会更困难,所以verbally意思是“口头地,用言语表达地”。故选C。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“The results showed significant differences in children’s performance across the tasks depending on shyness. Shyer children did worse in the verbal task than the less-shy children of the same age. However, all children performed well in the pointing task independent of their shyness level. The looking task produced more complicated results, meaning that shyer children were occasionally more accurate (精确的) but less likely to respond.(结果显示,根据害羞程度的不同,孩子们在各项任务中的表现存在显著差异。害羞的孩子在口头任务中的表现比同龄的不那么害羞的孩子差。然而,无论害羞程度如何,所有孩子在指向任务中都表现得很好。观察任务产生了更复杂的结果,这意味着害羞的孩子偶尔会更准确,但不太可能做出回应)”可推知,害羞的孩子在社交互动较少的测试(如指向任务)中表现良好。故选D。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段““A child’s shyness could strongly impact how they will behave in language tasks, ” said Kucker. “When children are given language ability tests, testers should take into account the child’s shyness level, perhaps using tasks that are less socially demanding for them, such as pointing tasks instead of verbal ones. ”(库克尔说:“孩子的害羞会强烈影响他们在语言任务中的表现。”“当对孩子进行语言能力测试时,测试者应该考虑孩子的害羞程度,也许可以使用对他们社交要求较低的任务,比如指向任务而不是口头任务。”)”可知,库克尔认为测试时应该考虑孩子的害羞程度。故选C。

A Chinese research team has developed the world’s first blood-based diagnostic kit (诊断试剂盒) that can tell whether lung nodules (肺结节) are harmless or cancerous, including very small nodules that are often difficult to assess using existing methods. Researchers say the breakthrough could significantly improve early detection of lung cancer.
Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer in China, largely because many cases are discovered at an advanced stage. Early symptoms are often mild or absent, delaying diagnosis and treatment.
Low-dose CT scans are widely used to screen people at high risk, such as smokers or those with a family history of lung cancer. However, CT scans can only detect nodules and cannot determine whether they are life-threatening. Patients must undergo repeated follow-up scans, and studies show that fewer than 30 percent are able to comply with long-term monitoring.
Using techniques from synthetic biology and artificial intelligence, researchers analyzed complex blood samples and screened more than 400 proteins linked to early stage lung cancer. From these, they identified 13 biomarkers that are most useful for diagnosis. Eight of the biomarker combinations are newly discovered and perform significantly better than existing clinical standards in China and overseas, according to the team.
Results showed the kit detected more than 65 percent of early-stage lung cancer cases, with accuracy significantly higher than traditional diagnostic methods. For small nodules that are often difficult to assess using low-dose CT scans alone, the test increased diagnostic accuracy to more than 85 percent. The blood test costs about 1,000 yuan ($144) and requires only 2 milliliters of blood. Researchers say this makes testing easier for elderly or physically weakened patients, while also reducing follow-up costs.
“This marks a major step forward in early lung cancer diagnosis in China, shifting screening from relying on imaging alone to detecting molecular signals in the blood,” Hu said. He added that the team hopes to expand use of the test to community clinics and health screening centers, greatly increasing early detection rates countrywide.
32. What is the key function of the new diagnostic kit?
A. To improve the imaging effect of CT scans.
B. To reduce the risk of lung cancer surgeries.
C. To cut the cost of lung cancer follow-up checks.
D. To identify the nature of lung nodules accurately.
33. What does the underlined phrase “comply with” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Stick to B. Give up C. Put off D. Apply for
34. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. The application of the market. B. The process of the research.
C. The standard of the diagnosis. D. The clinical effect of the kit.
35. What can we infer from the kit’s clinical trial results?
A. It has replaced traditional diagnostic methods.
B. It performs best for advanced lung cancer cases.
C. It works better for small hard-to-assess nodules.
D. It detects all early lung cancers with full accuracy.
【答案】32. D 33. A 34. B 35. C

Knowledge Has a Price Tag
Knowledge is the information that one acquires through experience or study. Understandably, those who create knowledge have invested time and effort to produce quality content. This kind of knowledge is valuable because of the effort behind it. ____36____ This was also the view of 700 people who demanded that a university application essay by Brooke Lim should be reviewed for plagiarism (抄袭). The Singaporean TikTok influencer and General Paper tutor was reported to have copied her blog essay from five books and eight articles.
We need to be fair to those who create knowledge that benefits others. This is especially true for creators who depend on selling their intellectual work to make a living. People should pay for using their knowledge. ____37____ They prevents others from reproducing, distributing, or displaying knowledge without payment or acknowledgment of the owners.
____38____ Without proper funding, reliable knowledge may suffer. Consider the internet, where anyone — expert or beginner — can express opinions on any topic. The result is a flood of free information that is often incomplete or unreliable. In contrast, articles from trusted news sources and academic journals charge fees because they provide valuable and dependable knowledge.
Another reason we should pay for knowledge is that it brings us closer to success. This kind of knowledge differs from the free information found on the internet, ChatGPT, or social media. Students researching projects may not find free online content helpful in advancing their knowledge.____39____ It is one thing to gather information freely available online, but quite another to know how to use, analyze, and combine it in ways that advance our understanding of a topic. This explains why parents still pay high fees for top tutors expert in specific subjects.
While the idea of making knowledge free may seem noble, the case of Brooke Lim reminds us that most people are still concerned about preserving the value of knowledge and recognizing its creators. ____40____
A. This latter concern is no less noble.
B. Quality knowledge comes at a cost.
C. In the worst case, they may even be misinformed.
D. Creating it requires significant investment and effort.
E. Therefore, such knowledge should not be entirely free for everyone.
F. For this reason, we have laws to protect the rights of knowledge creators.
G. Thus, a film director should pay for the right to use a musician’s song in a movie.
【答案】36. E 37. F 38. B 39. C 40. A
【解析】
【导语】本文围绕“知识有价”展开论述。
【36题详解】
根据上文“This kind of knowledge is valuable because of the effort behind it.(这种知识因背后付出的努力而具有价值。)”和下文“This was also the view of 700 people who demanded that a university application essay by Brooke Lim should be reviewed for plagiarism (抄袭).(700 人要求核查布鲁克・林的大学申请文书是否存在抄袭,他们也持同样观点。)”可知,上文强调知识有价值,下文紧接着用700人反对抄袭、重视知识价值的事例进行佐证。E 选项 “Therefore, such knowledge should not be entirely free for everyone.(因此,这类知识不应该对所有人完全免费。)”承接“知识有价值”的观点,自然引出后文人们反对抄袭、维护知识价值的事例,逻辑连贯。故选E。
【37题详解】
根据上文“People should pay for using their knowledge.(人们使用他人的知识应当付费。)”和下文“They prevents others from reproducing, distributing, or displaying knowledge without payment or acknowledgment of the owners.(它们阻止他人在未付费、未注明出处的情况下复制、传播或展示相关知识成果。)”可知,下文主语They指代F选项中的laws,F选项 “For this reason, we have laws to protect the rights of knowledge creators.(因此,我们有法律保护知识创作者的权利。)”既承接“使用知识需付费”的观点,又引出下文法律的具体作用,代词指代清晰。故选F。
【38题详解】
根据下文“Without proper funding, reliable knowledge may suffer. Consider the internet, where anyone — expert or beginner — can express opinions on any topic. The result is a flood of free information that is often incomplete or unreliable. In contrast, articles from trusted news sources and academic journals charge fees because they provide valuable and dependable knowledge.( 若缺乏充足的资金支持,可靠的知识可能会面临困境。以互联网为例,无论是专业人士还是新手,任何人都能就任意话题发表观点。这便导致海量免费信息泛滥,而这些信息往往残缺不全、可信度低。与之相反,权威新闻媒体和学术期刊刊载的文章需要付费阅读,因为它们提供的是有价值、可信赖的知识。)”可知,下文对比免费网络信息与付费权威期刊,突出优质知识需要成本。B选项“Quality knowledge comes at a cost.(优质知识是需要付出代价的。)”是本段中心句,总领下文“资金不足会影响知识质量、付费知识更可靠”的内容,与下文形成总分逻辑。故选B。
【39题详解】
上文“Students researching projects may not find free online content helpful in advancing their knowledge.(做课题研究的学生可能发现免费网络内容无助于提升学识。)”可知,上文指出免费网络信息的弊端。C选项“In the worst case, they may even be misinformed.(最坏的情况下,他们甚至可能被误导。)”是上文“无帮助”的递进,进一步说明免费网络信息的弊端,与下文“This explains why parents still pay high fees for top tutors expert in specific subjects.(这也正是家长们仍愿意花高价聘请各学科顶尖专业导师的原因。)”指出的“付费专业辅导更有用”形成对比。
【40题详解】
根据上文“While the idea of making knowledge free may seem noble, the case of Brooke Lim reminds us that most people are still concerned about preserving the value of knowledge and recognizing its creators.(尽管让知识免费的理念看似高尚,但布鲁克・林的案例提醒我们,大多数人依然重视维护知识的价值、认可知识创作者的付出。)”可知,上文对比“知识免费”和“维护知识价值”两种理念,A选项“This latter concern is no less noble.(后一种担忧同样高尚。)”总结全文,点明尊重知识价值与知识免费一样有意义,收束全篇。故选A。

The day had finally arrived. For weeks, my team — Maya, Jake, and I — had dreamed of this moment: the annual Market Day, when the school gym would transform into a lively fair of student-run businesses.
The past month had been intense. We spent countless hours brainstorming ideas, before we finally focused on “FashionHut” with creative handicrafts. Maya, who loved herbs, made flower-scented candles using recycled jars. Jake, skilled with knots, decided to learn weaving friendship bracelets (手链) from online courses. I later contributed painted wooden keychains.
Together, we calculated costs, detailed market strategies, and planned pricing carefully, all of which came down to a ten-page business plan. And the most stressful moment was when we presented our plan to the review committee. Eventually, they approved our $300 startup loan (借款). We jumped for joy in the hallway.
We produced over eighty items with reasonable prices: candles at 6, bracelets at 4, keychains at $3. So we needed to sell that many items to repay the loan.
“Everything’s perfect,” Maya declared. Watching students flood into the gym, I believed her.
But an hour passed. Then another. Our table remained painfully quiet while chaos erupted around us. A booth (摊位) named “Game On!” had a line of students waiting to play balloon-shooting. Next to them, “Magic Bakery” had sold out of cookies. Students walked past our “FashionHut” with barely a glance.
“Maybe our prices are too high,” Jake whispered. “But if we lower prices now, we won’t make enough.” I disagreed.
The $300 loan hung over us like a storm cloud. We had signed an agreement to repay the full amount. By the two-hour bell, we had sold exactly two candles and one bracelet. We had two hundred and eighty-four dollars to go.
Normally, I avoided talking to strangers. In class, I never raised my hand. But now thinking of the loan, weeks of work, and my friends’ disappointed faces, I wouldn’t want our business to go up in smoke.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“New plan. We can no longer wait for them to come to us.” I declared.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After the final bell rang, we counted our earnings eagerly.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
“New plan. We can no longer wait for them to come to us,” I declared. I grabbed a couple of our items and stepped straight into the crowd. My voice was tense but firm as I approached the students, introducing our crafts proudly — candles in recycled jars, woven bracelets, and painted wooden keychains. Attracted by our unique handmade items and eco-friendly ideas, they followed me to our booth. Maya, Jake and I smiled and served every customer warmly. Students asked about the herbs in the candles and the story behind each keychain and bracelet, their curiosity turning into purchases.
After the final bell rang, we counted our earnings eagerly. Jake’s hands trembled as he counted the bills. “Three hundred and twenty-six dollars,” he announced. We hugged with laughter and joyful tears mixed. Three hundred for the loan, and twenty-six left to share. We realized the real reward was what we had discovered about ourselves. We had started the day as three nervous students with handmade crafts, but ended it as a team who learned that courage, not products, made our business succeed.

C
D

67. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

“New plan. We can no longer wait for them to come to us.” I declared.

D

【答案】Dear Steve,
I’m excited to share with you a recent event held in our school to promote traditional Chinese culture — a poetry competition!
The event took place last Friday afternoon in our school auditorium. We had a range of activities, including a poetry recitation contest where participants passionately brought to life poems by famous Chinese poets such as Li Bai and Du Fu. There were also workshops on practicing Chinese calligraphy and understanding the deeper meanings behind ancient Chinese poems.
Overall, the event was a great success. It was a great way to appreciate and promote traditional Chinese culture. Everyone enjoyed it and learnt a lot.
Yours,
