Scientists in Australia have used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help them locate (定位) a rare bird called the Plains-wanderer (领鹑) . This new information will help scientists protect the birds, which are endangered.
The Plains-wanderer is a small bird that lives in Australia’s grasslands. Not just any grasslands. Plains-wanderers are picky. There can’t be too much grass or too little. They were once everywhere in Eastern Australia. But that has changed, because people have turned many grasslands into farms and cities. Scientists believe there are now only 250 to 1,000 of the birds left in the wild.
To protect these rare birds, scientists first had to learn where they were. So Zoos Victoria worked with Queensland University of Technology to locate the birds. The researchers set up 35 special recording devices (录音装置) called “song meters”. Song meters record the sounds in different areas. Then the AI system used the recording to find the calls of Plains-wanderers. The system successfully discovered Plains-wanderer calls coming from two of the sites.
It’s the first time in over 30 years that people have found Plains-wanderers. Mr. Hartnett, who works with Zoos Victoria, says the discovery is “huge”.
The new information will help scientists protect the birds. The team plans to work with the landowners to help protect the birds and the grasslands they live in.
36. What does the underlined word “They” refer to (指的是) ?
A. Grasslands. B. Plains-wanderers. C. Scientists. D. Grass.
37. Why did scientists have to learn where the birds were?
A. Because they wanted to protect the birds.
B. Because they wanted to count the number of the birds.
C. Because they wanted to record the birds’ calls.
D. Because they wanted to know why they are endangered.
38. Which of the following statements is true?
A. Plains-wanderers only live in land with a lot of grass.
B. There are more than 1000 Plains-wanderers in the wild now.
C. The AI system successfully found the location of the birds.
D. Mr. Hartnett doesn’t like the discovery.
39. What is the team going to do according to the article?
A. The team is going to find more birds with the help of the AI system.
B. The team is going to improve the AI system.
C. The team is going to use song meters to record other birds’ calls.
D. The team is going to protect Plains-wanderers and the grasslands they live in.

56. smart
57. future 58. strict
59. to encourage
60. advice
be strict with oneself“对自己要求严格”。
encourage sb. to do sth.“鼓励某人做事”。用动词不定式形式to encourage,want to do sth.“想要做某事”。

My aunt has a cat named Mimi. She is grey and quiet, with soft fur and green eyes. Mimi enjoys fish and milk. Every evening, she ____61____ (sit) on the sofa and watches TV with us. Mimi is very clever. She can open the door by ____62____ and jump onto the table to get food. Sometimes, she hides in a box, which is really cute. I enjoy ____63____ (play) with her after school. When she is tired, she curls up on my lap. Taking care ____64____ Mimi makes me more patient. I need to clean her litter box and brush her fur every day. She is not just a cat; she is part of my family. When I have a bad day, stroking Mimi makes me ____65____ (cheer) again. I like my little cat a lot.
61. sits
62. herself
63. playing
64. of 65. cheerful
