On January 4th, the China National Traditional Orchestra (中央民族乐团) played some well-known traditional music in their concert. Audiences (观众) enjoyed the beautiful sounds of guzheng, the powerful tones of suona, the tearful notes of erhu and so on. Each traditional Chinese musical instrument tells its own story.
“I’ve fallen in love with the sounds of traditional instruments, especially pipa, a four-stringed instrument with a history of more than 2,000 years. It can produce different sounds, such as the falling snow and raindrops. Every time I listen to a pipa tone, I have a strong feeling of peace,” said Yang Tian, one of the audiences of the concert.
However, a recent report suggests the number of traditional music listeners is dropping. To wake up people’s love for traditional music, something creative has been done.

Li Xiaobing, a music teacher from Beijing, mixes traditional folk singing and operas with Chinese instruments through technology. People are surprised at his works and they love them!
Some musicians try to add something new to traditional music. They bring modern music like pop and rap into traditional music. When the East meets the West, the new form of music wins the hearts of both the old and the young.

China’s Spring Festival Gala surprised the world this year when robots played kung fu on stage.
The robots, which came from four Chinese robotics companies, performed all kinds of difficult tasks. They took part in a funny play and danced to music with humans. The most exciting part was a set of martial arts (武术) when the robots did runs, jumps, turns and fights with child performers.
Last year, robots stepped onto the same stage for the first time. They could only perform simple dances. Georg Stieler, a robotics expert, explained that the robots’ abilities to control their movements and balance have developed so quickly, because the companies focused on using AI software to build robot “brain”.
The humanoid (人形) robot technology has developed rapidly in China. According to a latest research, China produced 90 percent of the world’s humanoid robots last year. It is said that China’s humanoid robot sales will continue to rise and reach more than 28,000 units in 2026.
However, the quick development of AI robots has also raised questions for humanity to consider. AI expert Dr Ramesh Srinivasan said the use of humanoid robots in society would “reshape our futures” as people turn to robots and AI as helpers, friends and even family members.
“What will happen if AI controls robots like these?” Dr Srinivasan asked in an interview. “Will AI and robots take away human jobs? What if humanoid robots are used in wars? Do we really want this?”
Dr Ramesh Srinivasan said that humans should think more carefully about how to use these humanoid robots properly. “For me, the key is to focus again on people and consider how we can use technology to create a better future. After all, everyone needs to feel safe and well taken care of,”he said.
18.What surprised the world at China’s Spring Festival Gala this year?
A.Exciting martial arts by children. B.Amazing performances by robots.
C.A funny musical play about kung fu. D.A competition between humans and robots.
19.Why have robots’ movement and balance improved so quickly?
A.Because Georg Stieler trained the robots personally.
B.Because AI software is used to build the robots “brain”.
C.Because robots practiced dancing on stage many times.
D.Because robotics companies have bought new technology.
20.What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A.The great progress of robots in China. B.The reason why China made robots.
C.The problems in robot sales in China. D.The future development of Chinese robots.
21.What is Dr Ramesh Srinivasan’s idea about robots?
A.He believes robots would replace humans.
B.He thinks robots only bring benefits to people.
C.He hopes robots can be good helpers in the future.
D.He thinks people should use robots in a proper way.

Do you know that your brain may become especially creative when you are half-awake? A recent study suggests that people who experience light sleep may be better at solving problems afterward.
The idea is not new. It is reported that the famous inventor Thomas Edison used to take short naps while holding heavy balls in his hands. As he began to fall asleep, the balls would drop and wake him up. This allowed him to come up with creative ideas before falling into deep sleep and forgetting them.
To test whether this method works for others, researchers invited 103 healthy people to their lab. Participants (参与者) were first asked to solve a difficult math problem. Then they were given a 20-minute break in a dark, quiet room. They sat in chairs holding a light bottle, just like Edison did. During the break, the researchers checked their brainwaves.
After the break, the participants returned to the math problem. The results showed that those who entered a light sleep stage called N1 were about 2.7 times more likely to solve the problem than those who stayed awake. Interestingly, those who entered a deeper sleep stage called N2 did worse—they were about 5.9 times less likely to solve it than the N1 group.
The researchers believe this light sleep stage may help unlock creative thinking. However, more studies are needed to fully understand the connection between N1 and creativity. The findings suggest that it might be possible to train ourselves to enter this creative state on purpose.
So maybe Edison knew something. But don’t rush to copy his habit—he also believed that too much sleep was a waste of time.
22.Why does the writer mention Thomas Edison in Paragraph 2?
A.To tell the importance of sleep. B.To explain why Edison slept well.
C.To introduce Edison’s inventions. D.To show how researchers got their idea.
23.Paragraph 3 is mainly about ________.
A.why the study was designed B.how the study was carried out
C.what result the study showed D.what the future study is mainly about
24.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Holding a ball while sleeping helps our brain work better.
B.People can learn some skills when they are half awake.
C.A light sleep may make people creative and be better problem solvers.
D.Staying awake for a long time will make people forget things easily.
25.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To encourage people to sleep less in the daytime.
B.To discuss the importance of a deep sleep.
C.To compare different kinds of sleep.
D.To prove the value of a light sleep.

Leaf-made Paper
Paper is one of the basic products of the modern world. From books to toilet paper, everyone uses paper in daily life. 26 More importantly, the traditional paper-making process uses lots of water and gives off harmful gases, which causes serious air pollution.
What did Releaf Paper discover to replace wood?
This is where Releaf Paper comes in. The company has found a green way to make environmentally friendly paper. Instead of using wood, it uses leaves to produce paper, which helps save millions of trees every year. The company was set up by Valentyn Frechka, who has always been interested in biochemistry (生物化学). 27 He first tried making paper from grass but failed, then he turned to leaves and finally achieved great success.
28
Some European cities collect fallen leaves from their streets and parks and send them to Releaf Paper. Then, using mechanical (机械的) and chemical processes, the company turns the leaves into paper. The new processes use 15 times less water and cause less air pollution than the traditional paper producing model.
Why is the process of leaf-made paper greener?
The leaf-made paper is eco-friendly. 29 Frechka said they only use leaves from cities, not forests, because collecting leaves in forests is difficult and will destroy the ecosystem. They get leaves for paper and return lignin (木质素) to the cities. It’s like a win-win model.
How will Releaf Paper develop in the future?
Releaf Paper doesn’t want to stop their progress. They hope to spread their technology to more countries. 30 In this way, more trees will be saved, less water will be wasted, and our planet will become greener and cleaner.

In some traditional music concerts, VR (虚拟现实) technology is used to bring the starry sky or the beautiful sandy view of Dunhuang to the music hall. It makes the experience like watching a 3D movie.
Traditional music shows the beauty of our culture, and with some creativity, great things happen.

D

A.It helps protect the forest ecosystem and save water.
B.Releaf Paper makes more money by improving its technology.
C.How does Releaf Paper produce leaf-made paper?
D.They are working hard to improve their technology.
E.Where do the fallen leaves come from?
F.It led him to explore new paper-making methods.
G.However, 40% of the 15 billion trees are cut down to produce paper every year.

In some traditional music concerts, VR (虚拟现实) technology is used to bring the starry sky or the beautiful sandy view of Dunhuang to the music hall. It makes the experience like watching a 3D movie.
Traditional music shows the beauty of our culture, and with some creativity, great things happen.

D

Cute animals, funny memes (表情包)…You may have seen these fuse bead (拼豆) works on social media. Maybe you have even given it a try yourself!
Making fuse bead art is easy to start. By placing each bead on a pegboard (拼豆板) and then melting them with an iron, you can create all kinds of patterns (图案).
Yang Hetong, 15, is a big fan of fuse beads from Guangdong. “I have made many things, such as keychains (钥匙扣) and door signs,” she said. “They are not just cute but also useful.” Yang also designed a name card for her favorite star, which became popular on Xiaohongshu. “Many people asked me for the template (模板), which made me feel proud.”
For 13-year-old Bi Tianyu, playing with fuse beads is the best thing to do with friends. “We sit together and share our works. You feel that someone is with you. It’s a new way of socializing.”
When Xiao San, a 22-year-old from Fujian first started fuse bead art, she was preparing for a big exam. “I was anxious (焦虑的) all the time and found fuse beads quite relaxing. When I carefully arranged (拼) each bead and iron them into shape, my mind calms down. The worries melt away.”
