IT is not the harder the Better. To hard work out days every week is enough. If you really hate to skip a day, you can plan easy exercises on other days. My daughter had a great time there. What about you? M: Oh, I had a truly incredible experience. I dropped by a yard sale on Saturday and got several books. W: Novels? M: A novel and two poetry collections. As I leafed through the novel, a piece of paper fell out. It was an air ticket from 2012. The flight was from Los Angeles to Chicago and the name on the ticket was Ashley Louis. W: Was it? M: Yes. Ashley, my sister. In 2012, she lived in Los Angeles and her husband worked in Chicago. Both of them often flew between two cities. I asked the seller where he got the book. He said it was bought at a second-hand bookstore in Los Angeles three years ago. Last year, he and his family moved from Los Angeles to Philadelphia. W: So, all the way cross the country, your sister’s old book landed in your hands. That’s really crazy. Text 9 W: Victor, you’ve been here in Indiana for six weeks now. How are you feeling? M: I think I’ve got used to college life, going to classes, working out and hanging out with my friends. Though there’s pressure to meet deadlines, life here is never boring. W: What’s been hard about being an Indiana basketball player? M: Well, the training is very competitive, weightlifting and running every day. It’s not like high school. In high school, I really didn’t have to do that. I’m just trying to get used to it. And I think I am. W: At this point, how do you see yourself fitting into this group? M: I think we’re all different. George is from Britain. Chris and Leo are from Australia. I’m from France. And the rest are Americans. But I get along with everybody. You know, we are really starting to bond. It’s great to see how we grow each day as a team. W: Thanks, Victor. I wish you a very happy and fruitful stay in Indiana. Text 10 W: Good evening, dear listeners. When was the last time you enjoyed leisure activities? Do you want to live a full and happy life? Turn left when you walk out of this register office. Pass the bookstore and you’ll see it. Text 2 1. We couldn’t ask for a better day, could we, Barbara? W: I know, Steve. There isn’t a cloud in the sky. I love this time of year. 1. Me too. The flowers are beautiful but calling for rain though. Text 3 1. We got any plans this weekend? W: We might start with our vegetable garden, then the barbecue. 1. Sounds fun, but I still want to go fishing with George. Text 4 1. Lisa, I saw Jack this morning. W: You mean the former designer of our company? What’s he doing these days? M: He said he’s got a new job as an art reporter. Text 5 W: Do you often go to the student union, Andrew? M: Pretty much. Once in a while I meet friends there, and I spend a lot of time organizing activities in different clubs or associations. Text 6 W: What do you think, Terry? M: Well, it has one more bedroom than the last flat and the sitting room is big. W: But there is not enough cupboard space in the kitchen. M: It’s cheaper than the last one we saw and it is in a good neighborhood. W: Well, maybe we’ll have to see if the agent has anything else to show us.  Text 7 M: Thank you, Mrs. Johnson, for what you’ve shared with our listeners. Now, please tell us, do you sometimes feel worried about your daughter, now that she’s grown up? W: Oh, I worry about her like all parents do. After she graduated from medical school, she went to volunteer medical service in Africa. M: Wow! W: That’s okay if communication was fine. But if there was no Internet or telephone connection, we could sometimes go two weeks without getting in touch with each other. That often worries me.  Text 8 W: Now, sell yourself in a minute please. M: I graduated from university two years ago, and have since been working in an accounting company. Apart from the knowledge and skills related to my major, I’m really good with computers. I have a large amount of experience working with big data. I think I’m well qualified for the accountant position here. W: Good! Why did you choose this company? M: Peterson has been my dream company all along. You value progress and focus on the quality of work more than the quantity. The flexible working hours and working from home is also attractive. W: Ah huh. What do you think is your biggest weakness? M: Well, when I work, I often concentrate so much on what I’m doing that I may have a hard time dealing with things that come up unexpectedly. That may be annoying to some people. W: All right. Thank you very much. Text 9 W: So Robert, I guess you must be well into your third decade as a writer. How is life treating you? M: Fourth decade as a writer. Hmm, let me get my calculator out. Well, I guess I’ve been writing novels since the 1980s. So you’re right. But I have been writing all my life. And to answer your question, life has been treating me excellently. W: Can I ask you about your childhood? Were you a bookish child? 1. In a strange way, I was a non-reader until I turned nine. I used to play basketball in the schoolyards of Brooklyn. My father was a high school teacher of physics and chemistry. And he was a big reader. He would bring books back from his high school library. One day, I read the last chapter of a book, the title of which I’ve long since forgotten. I liked it so much that I started reading the remainder. Interestingly, I read the chapters backwards until I got to the beginning. I really loved the experience, and I soon became an eager reader. Then my father would bring piles of books home from the library. And I would read them all, and they were all fiction. I must add that I started reading the books from the start, as opposed to working backwards.  Text 10 1. Hello, I’m Maxim Vengerov, and I’m very happy to share with you my connection with open Tchaikovsky competition. It was June 1986 when I came to Moscow to participate in open Tchaikovsky competition at the age of 10 from Chelyabinsk. This was actually the turning point of my life. Then I attended a world music festival in Berlin. And it was interesting to say that a kid made his breakthrough already at the age of 10. And that was me. Now as a judge of the competition, I can see clearly the huge challenges facing the musicians in the competition. Where else can you see young players playing within ten days classical works and Russian traditional music before coming to the final stage? As a musician, it’s important to give maximum attention and time to your own reflections of your own feelings. So, what I’m really looking for in the competition is to meet someone who can touch me musically. I want to see the seed, at least the seed of the great tree that can grow. I would go for this violinist. I would go for this musician. 听力重点词汇 & 短语梳理 Text 1 dorm building 宿舍楼 register office 登记处 Text 2 call for rain 预示要下雨 Text 3 gardening /ˈɡɑːdnɪŋ/n. 网络 / 通讯连接 get in touch with 联系 Text 8 accountant /əˈkaʊntənt/n. 会计 flexible working hours 弹性工作时间 unexpectedly /ˌʌnɪkˈspektɪdli/adv. 意外地 big data 大数据 be qualified for 胜任;具备…… 资格 Text 9 bookish /ˈbʊkɪʃ/adj. 喜爱读书的 remainder /rɪˈmeɪndə(r)/n. 1. W: Let’s go to Greens. It’s just around the corner. M: Okay. Text 2 W: Hi, Stephen, guess who I saw at the city library? Andy Clarkes — the leading actor in The Good Lawyer — the famous TV series. M: What was he doing there? His popularity has slipped since the final season of the show. Text 3 W: It seems as if everybody is talking about Jason’s retirement. M: Yes, his office is filled with gifts. I gave him a T-shirt with a baseball pattern on it. W: That’s nice. I’ll get him something this afternoon. Hope it’s not late. Text 4 W: Did you go to Cooper’s last night? M: No, was there anything special? W: Yes, the employees dressed up as movie characters, and every customer received a discount card. M: That was interesting. Text 5 W: Oh, the road is jammed with traffic again. We are going to be late for work. M: Let’s make a U-turn at the next crossroads and try another way. Text 6 W: Do you think Janet could make it? M: I’m sure she can. Have you tried calling her? W: Yes, of course. But I can’t get through. The flight has already been called twice. What are we going to do? Board without her? I should have reminded her at the office yesterday. She may have totally forgotten it. M: Take it easy, Sarah. Let me call her home number. Oh, there she is. Text 7 M: Welcome to our program, Miss Johnson. Congratulations on winning the Teacher of the Year award. W: Thank you, Peter. I’m more than happy to be here. M: What inspired you to be a teacher, Miss Johnson? W: Well, I’ve always loved to learn, but I’ve enjoyed teaching others even more. It’s in the family. M: Could you tell us what the best part about your job is? W: Getting to know all of the different kids and communicating with them. I have always loved kids. So, I will always enjoy that part of my job. M: Then, what do you hope to achieve by being a teacher? W: My goal is to help my students develop awareness of their strengths, weaknesses, and learning needs, and to enable them to learn throughout their lives. M: That sounds great. Text 8 W: Ethan, have you thought about getting your own house? M: Yeah. But I’m convinced my parents love having me back. What about you? W: Um... Not sure yet. Right now, I enjoy getting my meals cooked for me every day. M: Do you pay a contribution to the house? W: Of course, I do. But it’s still much less than I would pay to live in my own flat. Right? M: Obviously. W: The only thing I don’t like is that my mom wants to know every part of my life. Becky what are you doing tomorrow? Where? With whom? The same questions every day. M: Moms are like that. They ask because they care. You’ve got to be patient with them. My parents ask those questions too, but I may not move out soon. The thought of leaving them fills me with fear. What if one of them falls over? What if they both have a fall together? W: That would be terrible. Text 9 W: It’s a pretty good conference, huh? M: Yeah. All speakers are well-known and knowledgeable in the subject matter. Did you listen to John Miller’s speech on how to avoid business risks this morning? W: No, I missed that one. I went to a speech at Alan Brown Hall. The speaker was David Thompson. M: Oh, that should be a good one, too. I attended his lecture last year. By the way, there will be a workshop this afternoon on how to motivate employees. Are you interested? W: Sure. I was promoted to the position of manager a few months ago. And I have to manage a staff of 12 people. It can be quite a difficult situation sometimes. That’s why I am here today. M: Same here. I only have seven people reporting to me. Yet, sometimes I feel like pulling my hair out. I need to find a way to create harmony within my department. Text 10 W: Welcome to Star Fitness Club. I’m Tina Harrison. Before you start, I’d like to offer you some tips. We all know that regular exercise is important, but few of us know how to exercise properly. I’ve seen many people make the same workout mistakes in this place. One mistake people often make is sticking to the same routine. It is not good for building up your muscles. I’d like to suggest that you change your routine every other month. What’s more, you can try different kinds of workouts, such as jogging, biking, or swimming. This can help keep your whole body in shape. Another mistake most people make is to workout intensely almost every day. You need to give your body a break, and allow time for the muscles to grow. It is not the harder the better. Two hard workout days every week is enough. If you really hate to skip a day, you can plan easy exercises on other days. However, experts’ suggestion is that you take one day off completely each week. 课题;项目 around the corner 在附近;即将来临 Text 2 leading actor 主演 popularity /ˌpɒpjuˈlærəti/n. Text 5 be jammed with traffic 交通拥堵 make a U-turn 掉头 crossroads /ˈkrɒsrəʊdz/n. 十字路口 Text 6 get through 打通电话 flight /flaɪt/n. 航班 board /bɔːd/v. 登机;上船 take it easy 别紧张;放轻松 Text 7 profession /prəˈfeʃn/n. 职业 awareness /əˈweənəs/n. 意识 lifelong learner 终身学习者 strengths and weaknesses 优点与缺点 Text 8 contribution /ˌkɒntrɪˈbjuːʃn/n. 分摊费用;贡献 fall over 摔倒 on one’s own 独自居住 have patience 耐心对待 Text 9 knowledgeable /ˈnɒlɪdʒəbl/adj. How much is the shirt? B. On foot. C. By bus. 12. What is Jack's attitude toward parents driving their kids to school? A. Disapproving. B. Encouraging. C. Understanding. 13. What is the problem with some parents according to the woman? A. Overprotecting their children. B. Pushing their children too hard. C. Having no time for their children. B 12. C 13. A 【原文】W: Jack, how did you get to school when you were in primary school? 1. I lived close to my school, so I walked every day. Why? W: Well, I remember that when we were kids, we often walked, rode a bike or caught the bus to school. Few of us were dropped off at the school gate by our parents. 1. I see what you mean, these days you can see traffic jams around schools that drop off at pick-up times, but it’s hard to blame the parents. They have good reasons for driving their kids to school, mostly to do with safety and convenience. W: You have a point there, but it could also mean children are missing out on much needed exercise and other life skills. Some parents are just being over-protective with their children learning nothing, but living in fear of everything. Studies have found that children who spend more time outside tend to be healthier, better adjusted and better at dealing with stress. 14. B 【原文】W: Good morning, everyone. This lesson is a part of our leadership series. Let me start by sharing a story of Richard Rochester, one of the most successful businessmen in Britain. Years ago, I was given the task of organizing a conference in the south of England. I chose a five-star hotel owned by Rochester as the venue. Susan, the receptionist, helped me arrange everything perfectly. Once when we were chatting, I asked Susan if she’d ever met Mr. Rochester. She said yes. Shortly after Mr. Rochester bought the hotel, he made an appointment to see the hotel manager. When he arrived, the first person he met was Susan, who was cleaning the carpet. He chatted with Susan for 30 minutes before keeping his appointment with the manager. He spent all day at the hotel talking with each member of the staff, from the top guy to the lady who cleaned the toilets. Six months later, Mr. Rochester paid another visit. Susan had been promoted to receptionist, but he recognized her immediately and addressed her by name. He even remembered that she had a little girl and what her name was. Now, I don’t believe that Richard Rochester has that good memory. He must have written a lot of notes after his first visit and read them over again before that second visit. It’s time-consuming, but it shows the importance he places on human relationships. I think that’s one of the secrets of his success. 听力重点词汇 & 短语梳理 Text 1 talent show 才艺表演 attend a show 看演出 Text 2 refreshment /rɪˈfreʃmənt/n. 小憩;点心饮料 take a rest 休息片刻 Text 3 wedding invitation 婚礼请柬 business trip 出差 Text 4 catch a train 赶火车 gym /dʒɪm/n. 健身房 Text 5 chapter /ˈtʃæptə(r)/n. 章节 feed the cat 喂猫 Text 6 fitness center 健身中心 jogging /ˈdʒɒɡɪŋ/n. 慢跑 weightlifting /ˈweɪtlɪftɪŋ/n. 举重 demanding /dɪˈmɑːndɪŋ/adj. 过度锻炼 Text 7 reserve a table 预订餐桌 available /əˈveɪləbl/adj. 爵士乐 rock and roll 摇滚乐 cancel /ˈkænsl/v. 1. I have the actors become their characters. M: Is it a kind of like playing dresser? W: A little bit. But I need to study the play to create the characters' clothes, not just use my imagination. M: How do you do that? W: I read the play and do research about the time and place of the story. If the story is set in the past, I might study old magazines or paintings. For plays set in now, I sometimes collect pictures of people on the street. M: Then what do you do? W: I take my ideas and pictures to the director of the show. We talk about whether I'm on the right track. If it’s good, we will hire a tailor to make the costume. M: Is it finished then? W: Almost. We still need to try on the actor to make sure everything fits and looks good. M: Wow, it takes so many steps to make a costume. 1. Yes, it does. I work with lots of different people to put it all together. Text 9  1. Hi Kevin. I've just got back from the Art Gallery. There's a wonderful show of abstract art. You should have come with me. M: I don't know. Abstract art seems like children's painting to me. W: Well, if you don't understand what the artist is trying to communicate, it can seem a little like that. M: What did you see then? W: There were two paintings that impressed me most. The first is a huge one which I supposed the tree although it could have been anything. M: What did you like about it? W: Just the way the tree looked. It was like the tree was made of hard metal, and the mix of white and gray made everything look like it was winter, freezing winter. M: That's something. What about the other one? W: The second looked like a piece of grassland. All the grass was purple and red, and there was green sky in the background. I looked at it and thought of summer. M: Hmm, your description really teaches me something about appreciating abstract art. Maybe I should go and give this show a try this Saturday. W: You really should. Text 10 M: You are watching the morning news. This is Steven Johnson. Sydney and the New South Wales coast have been hit by heavy rains. Major roads, the airport, trains and buses were all thrown behind the schedule as more than a month's worth of rain fell in just one hour during the morning rush. All traffic into city remains very heavy. Pittwater Road is closed due to a car crash. Consider using Wicks Road instead. A police officer has been hurt assisting drivers in North Ryde. A woman is believed to have broken her leg after a tree fell on her car. The roof of Town Hall Station has fallen in, causing delays for passengers. M: That's exactly what our service program is for. W: Great. Thank you, Mr. Hall. Text 10: Good evening. Tonight, I'll continue to share how we can use art to spread the word about the changing climate. In our day-to-day lives, climate change can be hard to see, but some places will feel the changes sooner than others. The city I live in is very flat and close to the water line. And rising sea levels are already creating floods. So I decided to do something to make it impossible to ignore. I started an art project called Underwater Homeowners’ Association and painted numbers onto thousands of large signs. Each number showed how high someone's house was above sea level. A one would mean that if the sea level rose one foot, the building would flood. I gave the signs to homeowners who put them in their yards. Kids painted more signs and put them near their schools and along busy roads. The project has already had a real-world effect. The people who put the signs in their yards created a real homeowners association to address climate change in their communities. 行李箱 fill out a form 填写表格 flight /flaɪt/n. 航班 Text 2 graduation /ˌɡrædʒuˈeɪʃn/n. 毕业 volunteer work 志愿工作 pursue a higher degree 深造;攻读更高学位 Text 3 suburbs /ˈsʌbɜːbz/n. 郊区 move house 搬家 window /ˈwɪndəʊ/n. 窗户 Text 4 ski area 滑雪区 crowded /ˈkraʊdɪd/adj. 拥挤的 brilliant /ˈbrɪliənt/adj. 极好的 Text 5 block /blɒk/n. 街区 head for 前往;去往 Text 6 speed limit 限速 school zone 学区 driver's license 驾照 dismiss /dɪsˈmɪs/v. 毕业 Text 8 documentary /ˌdɒkjuˈmentri/n. 纪录片 cut down on 削减;减少 reality show 真人秀 educational /ˌedʒuˈkeɪʃənl/adj. 社区 interaction /ˌɪntərˈækʃn/n. How much is the shirt? I'm honored to have my voice heard to make a difference in the lives of those little birds that share our city, My name is Christina.I'm an enthusiastic bird watcher, Because we cut down too many trees in the nearby areas, many birds now find places within the city to live. The most common is the area behind the large advertisement boards on the poles. It's a natural choice for the birds because the poles are similar to trees, tall and far from dangers on the ground. The surprising thing is that there are likely more than five or six kinds of birds living together at each place. While trying to learn more about these birds, I find that there have not been any consistent studies or monitoring of them. Their eating habits, adaptation to life in the city, diseases, death rate, and such other information are not available. I'd like to suggest that a program be started to study these birds. It could be convenient to employ bird watchers to do the initial studies. 公寓 for a change 换个环境 Text 2 publish /ˈpʌblɪʃ/v. 出版 be based on 以…… 为蓝本 teaching experience 教学经历 Text 3 pick up sb. 接某人 nowhere to be found 到处找不到 anxious /ˈæŋkʃəs/adj. 焦急的 Text 4 slow down 减速 service station 服务区;加油站 pull over 靠边停车 Text 5 mailbox /ˈmeɪlbɒks/n. 邮箱 due /djuː/adj. 到期的 gas bill 燃气账单 Text 6 first-class condition 绝佳状态 train all through the day 全天训练 coach /kəʊtʃ/n. 可入住的 on business 出差 Text 10 natural habitat 自然栖息地 adaptation /ˌædæpˈteɪʃn/n. 适应 consistent study 系统性研究 monitoring /ˈmɒnɪtərɪŋ/n. 监测 enthusiastic /ɪnˌθjuːziˈæstɪk/adj. What will the speakers do? / Where does the conversation take place? When will sth. happen? / What does the man/woman want? My name is Christina. I'm an enthusiastic birdwatch. Because we cut down too many trees in the nearby areas, many birds now find places within the city to live. The most common is the area behind the large advertisement boards on the polls. It's a natural choice for the birds because the polls are similar to trees, tall and far from dangers on the ground. The surprising thing is that there are likely more than five or six kinds of birds living together at each place. While trying to learn more about these birds, I find that there have not been any consistent studies were monitoring of them. They're eating habits, adaptation to life in the city, diseases, death rate and such other information are not available. I'd like to suggest that a programme be started to study these birds. IT could be convenient to employ birdwatchers to do the initial studies. Good evening. I'm honour to have my voice heard to make a difference in the lives of those little birds that share our city.
