Yesterday, Liam let out a loud “Whoa” when he saw a giant dinosaur filled the page. His voice drew looks from other readers. When Megan 14 him again, Liam’s face turned red. “I’m sorry,” he said, “I don’t mean to. I really like being here.” She believed him. She had noticed that Liam was a 15 explorer of books. He would pull out a book on dinosaurs, read for a few minutes, then reach for another about space, as if he couldn’t wait to learn more.
Back to her office, a note caught her eyes. It read, “More Lively Reading Activities? Book sharing? Acting?” Megan suddenly remembered the librarian had mentioned she could feel free to use the garden at the back of the library. At the time, Megan hadn’t thought much about it. But now an idea came to her: Liam’s energy could be directed into the garden project. Perhaps the solution wasn’t to 16 Liam down, but to give his energy and love for books a positive stage.
Soon, her “Garden Reading Corner” project began to take shape. She found Liam among the bookshelves. “Want to do something cool?” Liam did not answer at once, but the 17 light in his eyes said everything.

Alice and I were both in the school writing club. We weren’t exactly friends, just two people who happened to share the same hobby. We sat on opposite sides of the room and wrote our own stories. Then there was a writing competition at school. The winner would get his or her story published in the local newspaper. We both wanted that.
Suddenly, we were rivals (竞争对手). I’d been working on a story about a girl who discovered an old camera in her attic (阁楼), a camera that could take photos of the past. I heard that Alice was writing something about time too. That made me worried. What if our stories ended up being too similar? But I wasn’t about to change my idea. It was mine, and I believed in it. I pushed the thought away and kept writing.
Finally, we handed in our stories without a word. The next morning, our teacher called us over. “I read both of your stories,” she said. “Alice, your characters feel real, like people I might know.” She looked at me, “As for yours, your time-travel idea is really creative.” She stopped for a while, “Have you thought about working together?”
We glanced (瞥) at each other, unsure. But that afternoon, we talked. I told her about the magic camera. She described her main character, a girl who missed her grandmother terribly. And then it clicked. What if the camera let that girl see her grandmother one last time? Her character and my idea fit together like puzzle pieces.
We spent the next three days writing side by side. When we finally finished, the story was better than anything either of us could have written alone. It was chosen for the competition. A few weeks later, we found out it won first prize.
Standing next to Alice when we got the award, I realized something important. Competition pushes us to do our best. But working together? That’s where the real magic happens.
24. How did the writer feel when she heard Alice was writing something similar?
A. Unsure. B. Worried. C. Excited. D. Proud.
25. What did the teacher suggest that Alice and the writer do?
A. Rewrite their stories. B. Keep their ideas secret.
C. Work together on a story. D. Hand in their stories on time.
26. What can we learn from the writer’s experience?
A. Hobbies help us grow. B. Writing takes hard work.
C. Creative ideas bring success. D. Teamwork creates better results.
C
Birdwatching is a popular hobby around the world. Millions of people enjoy it. But beyond learning to identify (识别) birds, is it possible that birdwatching is actually shaping our brains? A new study suggests the answer may be yes.
Scientists were curious about whether the brains of expert birdwatchers differ from those of beginners. To find out, they studied 58 adults. Half of them were experienced birdwatchers, while the other half had much less experience. Then the scientists sent all of them into specialized brain-imaging (脑成像) machines to study brain structure and brain activity while having them identify birds.
Compared with beginners, expert birdwatchers showed more organized brain structure in areas linked (连接) to attention and visual perception (视觉感知). The more organized the brain structure, the better the ability to identify birds. Interestingly, these same areas of the brain lit up on brain imaging when bird experts were identifying less familiar birds.
This suggests that spending time birdwatching and becoming an expert may actually reshape the brain over time. This builds on another recent study. It found that people who took part in more creative activities had more youthful-looking brains and this was directly linked to how skilled they were at those activities.
Besides these brain changes, birdwatching may help improve brain health in other ways. With social connections at the top of the list of things that support brain health, joining a social birdwatching group could provide a direct positive brain effect. Birdwatching can lead to physical activity, which is clearly good for the brain. Spending more time in nature is also increasingly linked to improved overall brain health, as is staying away from screens. Finally, birdwatching may help people reduce stress. This is important because stress is bad for the brain.
There is still much more to learn about the possible good effects of birdwatching on our brain. But while spending your day looking for birds does not replace the need for a healthy diet, good sleep, and daily exercise, it may still be doing your brain some good.
27. Why did the scientists compare expert birdwatchers and beginners?
A. To help beginners identify birds better.
B. To study their ability to know different birds.
C. To find out whether their brains are different.
D. To test how quickly birdwatchers can identify birds.
28. What did the scientists find out from their study?
A. A more organized brain did help with identifying birds.
B. Long-term birdwatching hardly changed one’s brain structure.
C. Expert birdwatchers were better at creative activities than beginners.
D. Experts’ brains showed little activity on identifying birds new to them.
29. What is mainly discussed about birdwatching in Paragraph 5?
A. Its help in reducing stress. B. Its benefits for brain health.
C. Its role in social connection. D. Its effects on brain structure.
D
When you travel, do you map out every site ahead of time and stick to the plan, making sure you don’t miss anything? Or do you only make simple preparations and then do whatever you feel like during the trip? The difference being considered is that between planning and spontaneity (随性).
Some may argue strongly that a well-structured plan is the safer, more trustworthy way. Others hold that spontaneity, with its openness to surprise, is the truer way to experience life. The answer, I suppose, is that neither is always better. It depends on the situation, and more importantly, on what we hope to get out of it.
When launching a spacecraft into space, careful planning is beyond question, for a mistake could lead to disaster. But when playing football with children in the backyard, a strict game plan would feel out of place, for spontaneity allows the joy of the moment to take over. The same activity can call for different ways depending on its purpose.
Both planning and spontaneity come with their own risks. Over-planning may cause us to focus so much on covering every detail (细节) that we forget to enjoy the experience itself. This can happen when we take too many pictures of famous sites, only to realize later that we never truly enjoy them. On the other hand, a willingness to “wing it” can sometimes turn small mistakes into costly ones. For example, an unplanned hike without enough water may turn a pleasant afternoon into a difficult one. Thus, neither way is always better. What matters is knowing the risks of each and choosing the one that fits the situation.
So, which is better? The question itself may be too simple. What matters is not choosing one over the other, but understanding when each is called for, and how they can work together. Recognizing this allows us to make wiser decisions, but only when we are willing to look closely at our own choices and take responsibility for what we see.
30. Why does the writer mention two different examples in Paragraph 3?
A. To stress that careful planning is necessary.
B. To prove that spontaneity works better in daily life.
C. To explain that situation decides planning or spontaneity.
D. To show that planning is more difficult than being spontaneous.
31. What do the words “wing it” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Do things carelessly. B. Act without preparation.
C. Go against rules. D. Take unnecessary risks.
32. Which of the following shows a balance between planning and spontaneity?
A. Sticking to a strict timetable.
B. Following a cookbook step by step.
C. Making a to-do list with the order open.
D. Going out right after seeing the nice weather.
33. Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A. Planning and Spontaneity: Hidden Risks
B. Planning and Spontaneity: Both Have a Place
C. Planning over Spontaneity: The Key to Success
D. Spontaneity before Planning: The Path to Happiness

In recent years, virtual (虚拟的) museums have changed the way people experience art. Using Virtual Reality (VR) technology, art lovers can now visit famous museums like the Louvre or the British Museum from home.
The idea of virtual museums started in the 1990s. Early experiments used basic 3D modeling to create digital copies of art museums, but the experiences did not feel real. Today, virtual museums are different. VR technology is used, letting users do amazing things, like walking through ancient buildings or touching sculptures (雕塑) up close.
One great advantage of virtual museums is that they help more people enjoy world-famous artworks. People who live far away or cannot travel easily can now enjoy these treasures without leaving their homes. For example, the British Museum’s VR tour has attracted over 2 million users since its start, many from areas where international travel is impractical.
Virtual museums offer more than just looking at artworks. Visitors can look closely at details, listen to explanations, or join virtual workshops. They can even take part in guided tours led by experts. For example, the Louvre’s VR experience allows users to explore the Mona Lisa in 360 degrees and see details that people normally cannot see. Virtual museums turn simple looking into active exploration. That’s why many young people prefer them.
However, traditional museums still have their own advantages. Traditional museums offer the real feeling of standing before a great artwork, which VR cannot provide. Besides, traditional museums let people talk and share ideas with each other, which makes the visit more interesting and educational.
In fact, virtual museums and traditional museums each have their own special qualities. Virtual museums bring art closer to more people, while traditional museums offer real and unforgettable feelings for visitors. They serve people in different ways and both play an important role in the world of art.
34. What technology is used in today’s virtual museums?
35. What is one great advantage of virtual museums?
36. Why do many young people prefer virtual museums?
37. Which way of experiencing art do you prefer, visiting a traditional museum or a virtual museum? Why? (Please give two reasons.)

题目①
I did a survey on my classmates’ weekly reading time. The results show that among 40 students, 8 spend less than one hour reading each week, 20 spend one to three hours, and 12 spend over three hours. Clearly, most of us do not spend enough time reading.
Reading not only opens our minds but also helps us relax. I strongly suggest that we develop a daily reading habit and read for at least 30 minutes every day. Besides, we can share our favorite books with one another or set up a small book club. Let’s enjoy reading from now on.
题目②
I have a healthy habit that has made a big difference in my life. I go jogging for 30 minutes every morning. To keep this habit, I set an alarm and get up as soon as it rings. I also ask my dad to jog with me so we can encourage each other. This habit has brought me great benefits. First, it fills me with energy for the whole day. Second, I feel relaxed and less stressed. Jogging not only keeps me fit but also helps me stay positive. I will surely keep this habit.
