B More than 10 years ago, Australian man James Wood couldn’t have imagined the life that he has today: living with his Chinese wife and daughter in east China’s Fujian Province, working as an information technology teacher at an international school in Fuzhou. James became interested in Chinese culture at a young age. As a child, he watched The Monkey King and was amazed at pictures of the Great Wall. About 10 years ago, he met his wife. Then he made his first visit to China in 2015 to attend the wedding of his wife’s sister. He said his first impressions (印象) of China were a mix of shock and wonder, because China was so different from the place he called home. After three years, he moved to China and stayed there for a year. And since then, he has grown to love China and call China his home. Wood said the best way to tell Westerners about the real China is through direct, personal experience. While travel, cultural exchanges and business chances can help people see for themselves what life is really like here, social media (媒体) and online platforms also offer ways for people to share their own stories and views. With this in mind, he has loved to use social media to offer his own experiences and opinions on China. On X, he shared his latest article titled China Unveiled: How Moving East Shattered My Western Illusions. He has also often posted videos for his “Living China” series. As a result of his efforts, some of his friends and family have become more interested and open-minded about China. However, some others are still not sure whether they should go when he suggests they visit and see for themselves. “It’s hard to break those mental barriers (心理障碍), but I’m working on it,” he said. 19. What is James’s life like at present? A. He stays alone in Australia. B. He lives with his family in China. C. He works in a company in Fujian. D. He studies technology in Fuzhou. 20. How did James probably feel when he came to China for the first time? A. Afraid. B. Nervous. C. Shocked. D. Calm. 21. Why does James like to use social media? A. To look for business partners. B. To share his experiences in China. C. To teach Westerners IT knowledge. D. To make friends with Chinese. 22. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. James’s friends are all interested in China. B. Many foreigners have made efforts to help James. C. Something unhappy happened to James and his friends. D. James is trying to help foreigners understand China better. C ① Most of us know someone who is always late — a person who seems to be unable to understand how important being on time is. It can become a source of jokes among friends, but in another situation it can have serious and stressful results. ② There could be different reasons why you’re always late. Maybe you are not very careful about time, or you could just be really relaxed. This might have something to do with the way you were raised — perhaps you learned from your parents to have a relaxed attitude (态度) towards time. It can also be connected with your culture. For example, in some countries like Brazil, people are usually much more relaxed than those in America. ③ Or you might be a “time optimist” — this means you always think you can finish things faster than you really can. A related problem is procrastination (拖延症). Getting to places on time means being able to stop what you’re doing and prepare to leave. If you always put things off until the last moment, that might make it harder to do that in time. ④ One final reason to consider is whether you hate arriving early. Of course, it’s very difficult to plan to arrive anywhere exactly on time, so being on time usually requires being early. That can mean doing nothing while you wait. You might not even realize it, but perhaps you hate waiting around. ⑤ If these reasons sound true to you, you can start to work on them. One simple, powerful step you can take is not to just be on time, but to be early. Get into the habit of thinking about how long it’ll really take to get somewhere, then add on plenty of buffer (缓冲时间) — say, 15 minutes. If you don’t like the idea of hanging around, think about how you’ll spend the waiting time — read a book, play online chess or get stuck into a language-learning app, for example. 23. How does the writer show being late may be connected with your culture? A. By telling a story. B. By asking questions. C. By giving an example. D. By listing numbers. 24. What does the writer suggest you do about the problem of being late? A. Get into the habit of arriving early. B. Ask others to help you do things. C. Try your best to change your lifestyle. D. Do a survey of the place you’ll go to. 25. What is the structure of the passage? A. B. C. D. 26. Which could be the best title for the passage? A. Why is it important to be on time? B. Why am I always running late? C. How to relax yourselves in life? D. How to make good use of time? D AI (人工智能) is a computer system that can learn and do things that usually need a human brain. Some people are using AI to find out what is wrong with them and to help them decide when to see a doctor — or even go to hospital. This is a problem if the advice they get isn’t accurate. AI companies have developed chatbots (聊天机器人) that focus on health problems. But the new study, led by experts at Oxford University in England, shows that they aren’t very useful and may give wrong advice when a real person is asking them for help with their health. Almost 1,300 people took part in the study. Each was given unreal health problems and a made-up medical history. For example, one person was told to pretend they had a really bad headache. The people were divided into two groups. One group could ask the AI chatbots to identify (确认) their illness and say whether they should look after themselves at home or see a doctor. The other group was allowed to use the internet and Google to find out the same information. Real doctors then checked whether the volunteers had worked out their “illness” and what to do next. The results of the study showed that the people who talked to the AI did the right thing less than half the time and that the AI only correctly identified the problem about a third of the time. In fact, the study found that the AI’s advice was no better than just using Google. “AI just isn’t ready to take on the role of a medical expert,” said Dr Rebecca Payne, who led the study. She said that asking an AI for health advice can be dangerous. They might give wrong information and fail to know when help is really needed, she said. 27. What does the underlined world “accurate” in Para.1 probably mean? A. wrong B. fun C. important D. correct 28. Which of the following is TRUE about the new study? A. It was completed out of England. B. It helped improve health. C. It covered nearly 1300 people. D. It had nothing to do with AI. 29. What does the third paragraph mainly talk about? A. The result of the new study. B. The process of the new study. C. The cost of the new study. D. The importance of the new study. 30. What’s the purpose of the passage? A. To show it may be unsafe to ask AI for health advice. B. To tell people to keep away from AI in daily life. C. To teach medical experts how to use AI as an aid. D.
