I.阅读理解
A
When the natural climate changes due to
global warming,it can surely affect seals. The
majority of them live in the Antarctic region so
as the ice is melting, their natural habitat can
be seriously affected. These changes don't take
place overnight. They can be the result of
many years of additional temperatures in the
area. The seals then have to find ways to
adapt.
Seals depend on the cool air currents to
bring plenty of food for them. When the
temperatures get higher, there is less and less
food and the seal population starts to shrink.
Mothers aren't healthy enough to feed their
babies. Many of them end up abandoned as the
mothers have to leave to find their own source
of food.
The fact that their desire to produce young can
be changed by the warmer temperatures is
frightening too.It is also believed that the warmer
temperatures can allow different diseases and
viruses to attack the seals. This is a huge concern as
they can rapidly wipe out huge numbers of seals out
there.
However,these changes in climate and
temperature aren't all bad for other species of
seals.Scientists have found that those living in
warmer climates are producing more young
due to the changes.Research also shows that
the females are moving further to find food and
water. When they are out of the reach of the
governing males, they are more willing to
accept the moves of other males in the group.
This is good news too because it means
that there will be more selection in the gene
pool(基因库)for future generations..It can
help the seals as a species adapt to change in
their natural environment more easily.

The climate change problem for seals is
directly linked to humans. When we take
action to change what we let out into the
environment,we will make positive changes
for the seals. However,it is going to take a
very long time to reverse(彻底改变)the
effects of what has already been done.

Earth could be home to 9,000 more
species of trees than previously believed,
according to scientists. The latest estimate of
the number of tree species in the world shows
there are about 73,000 different types of trees
in existence. It took academics three years to
count them all.In all,150 scientists working
with the Global Forest Biodiversity Initiative
are behind the study.

The team collected an extensive database of
forest tree species around the world and then
mapped them. Then they used artificial intelligence
and a supercomputer to do complex calculations,
which discovered there are in fact 73,000 tree
species.
Before the research was conducted,scientists'
knowledge of trees in many parts of the world was
patchy as data was only collected by observation or
making lists of trees in different areas.Of the newly
found species,40 percent of them could be in
grasslands and tropical(热带的)forests in South
America.
Study author Roberto Cazzolla Gatti,a
professor from the University of Bologna,
said:"We combined individual datasets,coming
from someone going out to a forest stand and
measuring every single tree, into one massive
global dataset of tree-level data.Counting the
number of tree species worldwide is like a
puzzle with pieces spreading all over the
world.We,the Global Forest Biodiversity
Initiative,solved it together as a team,each
sharing our own piece."
Researchers say their findings highlight
how delicate biodiversity is and how weak it is
to changes caused by humans, such as the
climate crisis and unsustainable land use, with
rare species being at the greatest risk.
Extensive knowledge of tree richness and
diversity is key to preserving the stability and
functionality of the ecosystem.
5.How many tree species were originally
believed to exist on Earth?
A.About 9,000.
B.About 64,000.
C.About 73,000.
D.About 82,000.
6.What does the underlined word“patchy”
mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Broad.
B.Changeable.
C.Incomplete.
D.Reliable.
7.What does professor Gatti think highly of
during the research?
A.Advanced measuring methods.
B.A well-designed plan.
C.Individual financial assistance.
D.Integrated cooperation.

Not that long ago,the world wondered
whether clean energy could survive without
government support. Now the question is how
far it can spread. The number of electric
vehicles,which was about 1 million in 2015,
last year reached 2 million. In the generation of
electricity, too, the trend is with the Greens. In
the first half of this year, wind, solar and water
power generated a record 35%of Germany's
power.
Greater success is breeding greater ambition.
California is proposing to reach 60%renewable
energy by 2030:176 countries have clean-energy
goals.Hawaii,America's most oil-dependent state,
has promised to be 100%renewable by the middle
of the century. So have 48 poor countries vulnerable
to climate change. This week the number of
multinationals making a commitment to running
their operations on 100%renewable energy rose to
100.
But not every target is helpful. To see
why,consider that goal of 100%renewable
energy. It makes solving climate change seem
easy.In fact, though wind and solar power can
generate the whole country's electricity some
day, renewables still account for less than 8%
of the world's total power output. Moreover,
cleaning up electricity is only part of the battle.
Even though gas-fired heating and cooking can be
at least a big source of greenhouse gas emissions,
renewable heating gets little attention.
Transport policy is unpredictable,too.
Carmakers may hit their goal of annual sales of
10 million electric vehicles in a decade,but
battery-powered road transport,shipping and
aviation are dreams.A much-quoted claim that
America could rely on wind, solar and water
power alone for its electricity has recently been
bitterly criticized by a group of respected
academics.

Most importantly,the target of 100%
renewables confuses means with ends.The
priority for the planet is to stop net emissions
(净排放)of greenhouse gases,especially
carbon dioxide.Putting too much emphasis on
wind and solar energy and other renewables
may block off better carbon-reduction paths.
After decades of investment,it is wrong to
leave nuclear power off the table.Carbon
emissions in Germany actually rose because it
chose to phase out nuclear power gradually
and thus burned more coal.New technologies,
such as“direct air capture'”systems designed
to separate carbon dioxide from the air,may in
time prove vital.Likewise,greater energy
efficiency could reduce emissions by even more
than using renewables would.
9.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.The problem of climate change will be
solved by using 100%renewable energy.
B.With new technologies,Germany successfully
cut down carbon emissions.
C.It is probable that ships will one day be
powered by battery.
D.America is not likely to completely rely
on wind, solar and water power one day.
10.According to the passage,carbon emissions
may be reduced by
A.promoting energy efficiency
B.blocking off carbon-reduction paths
C.using non-renewable heating
D.abandoning electric vehicles
ll.The underlined phrase“phase out”in the
last paragraph is closest in meaning to
A.ignore
B.reduce
C.use
D.invent
12.In which column can this passage be read?
A.Fashion.
B.Politics.
C.Economy.
D.Education.

Many parents have had challenging
conversations with their children.There's one
more to add to the list-climate change.1
But the most important thing parents can give

them is hope:there are solutions, and everyone
has something to contribute no matter what
their ages are. Here are tips that will help
parents have a positive climate conversation
with their children.
Start by listening.2 They first learn
about climate change in the school, online or
from their friends.By taking time to
understand how children feel about climate
change, parents can help them figure out how
they can be part of the solution.
3 Being a parent is tough and the to-
do list never seems to end.The good news is
that talking about climate change doesn't have
to be complicated. There are many websites
parents can turn to for help.Continuing to
learn more about climate change can prepare
parents themselves to answer kids'questions.
Connect with nature.Encouraging kids to
play outside helps them appreciate the
outdoors.A study conducted a few years ago
found that kids who play outdoors are more
likely to be interested in protecting nature.
4 Research suggests that kids who
interact with nature are more likely to be in
good health.
Encourage kids to act. Most kids know
that climate change is happening, but they
might not know what they can do to fix it.
Often, what holds them back from acting is a
lack of efficacy(效果):they are not convinced
that they can make a difference. So build
children's efficacy by looking for examples of
people, especially kids who are making a
difference.5
A.Keep learning.
B.It isn't only about the future.
C.Improve their learning efficiency.
D.Climate change is real and the threat of it is
serious.
E.Tell them that kids'actions are already
incredibly effective.
F.Many children are already aware that the
climate is changing.
G.Parents should know what children have
learned in the school.2.C[细节理解题。根据文章第五段第二句可知,过度使用电子设备
是导致近视的主要因素之一,故选C。]
3.D「推理判断题。最后一段指出父母应在保护青少年视力的过程

Recently I find that some classmates lead an unhealthy life, such
as staying up late and skipping breakfast.Although we are under great
pressure,it is necessary for us to live a healthy life. The following are
some useful tips.
First,it's important that we have a balanced diet and enjoy
breakfast every day, because we consume much energy while studying.
Second, taking exercise regularly is of equal importance, which can help
us to keep fit and release stress.More importantly,we should develop a
positive attitude, which allows us to look at things positively no matter
what happens.
In a word, proper food, regular exercise and a positive attitude can
be beneficial to us during this bitter but sweet year.

The neat morning,I took out my piggy bank and shook it.
"There should be a lot of money in it.This is years of my savings,"I
said to myself.I was about to break it and withdraw money when my
mind came back to the bike I wanted to buy.and I hesitated.However.
thinking of the look in the eyes of the children hoping for help in the
earthquake,I grabbed the piggy bank and threw it to the ground.
Suddenly, the piggy bank broke into pieces and the coins rolled all over
the floor.
Hearing the noise,my grand father came over.I explained to him
what had happened.Having known my thought,he fondly touched my
head and said,"Good boy,you did the right thing.Grandpa is proud of
you.He continued,"My dear grandson,you deserve that bicycle.As a
bonus,let's buy that bike together now.”“Thank you,Grandpa,”I
was overwhelmed with happiness. From that day on,you would always
see me riding my bike on the street, leaving my hearty laughter
behind.
