Marathon pacers(马拉松配速员), sometimes also called “rabbits”, are
usually great runners. There are usually between 10 and 15 pacers in a marathon.
Each of them leads a different group. They run at a set race in their projected
(预定的) time. They usually hold a sign or a balloon with the time on it to help
the runners finish the race.
There are many reasons to run with a pacer. First of all, they can help you
run at the right pace. If you go out too fast in the first half of the race, you can

run out of energy quickly and slow down in the second half. Similarly, if you
set out to run a slower first half and a faster second half, it can be hard to follow
the pace in the end because you're very tired then. With a pacer, you don't have
to think too hard about your pace. You just need to keep up with your pacer.
Marathon pacers do more than that. They can encourage you to keep going
when you go through the hardest part of the race. In fact, many marathon runners
bring out the best in them by following a pacer.

Fingerprints are unique, which means no two persons in the world
have the same fingerprints, not even twins. They were formed before we
were born and will not change. They are like the secret codes on our
fingertips.
Fingerprints are made of tiny lines and squiggles(波形曲线). There
are mainly three kinds of fingerprints. The first one is called loops. They
look like lines that go in from one side, make a curve(曲线), and come

the fingerprint is making a round shape. The last kind is arches. Arches are like
small hills. The lines of the arches start from one side and end on the other side.
They don't form a ring.
In the 1880s, Scottish doctor Henry Faulds thought of keeping fingerprint
copies to catch criminals. Later, Sir Edward Henry made a way to measure(测量)
fingerprints. The London police started to use it in 1901. In 1902, the policeman
Charles Stockley Collins caught Harry Jackson who left a fingerprint while
stealing. Before computers, the police used paper records for matching, which

In the 3rd century AD, the earliest suona was introduced into China through
the old Silk Road. Chinese people in the Jin Dynasty connected it with their
culture. During the Ming Dynasty, the suona gradually became popular. In 2006,
the suona was listed as national intangible cultural heritage(国家级非物质文化
遗产).
In history, the suona has been widely used in different situations. It often
provides background music for kinds of performances, such as operas and
dances. It also plays a big role in festivals and other events, like weddings(婚礼)
or other ceremonies.

Though it is a traditional instrument, the suona has also found a place in
modern music. During one of the popular foreign singer's concerts, a young
Chinese man went on stage and played the suona. The harmony(和谐) between
the sound of the suona and that of the electronic music set the performance on
fire!
Today, on social media, we can also find Chinese artists playing the suona
with other musicians from all over the world. For example, the suona sounds in
the pop song Viva la Vida create a historical vibe,

After a few minutes, the sensitive plant will send water back to its leaves
and stand straight up again. However, it takes a lot of time for the plant to get
well. So don't touch the plant just to watch it wilt. Wilting may seem like fun,
but it's not fun for the sensitive plant.#5
