□ My favourite book is The Old Man and the Sea. It was written in 1952 by the American writer Ernest Hemingway. □ The book became popular very quickly. In 1953, it won the Pulitzer Prize.
□ The main character is a fisherman who hasn’t caught anything for months. One day he catches a huge fish, but he has to fight for days to kill it. He finally succeeds, but he can’t pull the fish onto his boat. When the fisherman is on his way back, sharks eat the fish, leaving nothing but bones.

This book has taught me not to give up or doubt myself. I’m inspired by how hard the fisherman fights, even though he loses the fish in the end. As Hemingway said, “Man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

I recommend this book.

While-writing
Among all the books I’ve read, The Little Prince is my favourite. ①It was written by French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, a French writer and pilot.
The story follows a little prince who leaves his tiny planet to explore other planets. When he arrives on Earth, he meets a fox and learns an important lesson from him. ②The fox tells the prince that to make someone truly special, he must spend time with them and show care.
③This touching idea is one of the reasons why the story is so meaningful to me.④This book has taught me to value friendship and love. It shows that these things are not about wealth, but about how much we care for others. ⑤Books are like teachers, and I believe reading more can help me grow. ⑥In the future, I plan to read one book a month and write down my thoughts. Reading good books will guide me to become a better person.

Dear Anna,
I’m glad to hear from you. I agree that reading is very important to us.
By reading we can not only get all kinds of knowledge but also open our eyes. I think reading books makes our lives enjoyable. Many books are my favourites, such as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Little Match Girl. Every day I swim in the sea of books. I like reading them for relaxing in my free time. I usually buy them on the Internet because it’s easy for me to do that.
Reading, a kind of enjoyment, is a way to experience pleasure. I hope you would like to read.
Yours,
Li Ming
