Passage1
Lei Diansheng is very famous in China. People call him “the modern Xu Xiake” for his great journey. From 1998 to 2008, he went hiking (徒步) 81,000 kilometers across China and made a world record.
During his journey, he hurt his feet 19 times and wore out 52 pairs of shoes. Strong winds, heavy snow, dangerous snakes, wolves and even having no food or water could not stop Lei from walking on his long way.
“Many times I wanted to stop and go back to a happy and easy life,” said Lei. “But after a night crying, I always got up with a strong mind because I had a dream. Without this dream, my life would be boring.”
Lei is the first person to walk across Lop Nur successfully. Lop Nur was a salt lake in China before 1972, but now it is almost dry. Many explorers (探险者) lost lives in this dangerous place over the years. Lei learned a lot from them and got well ready before this great challenge. Though many dangerous situations in 31 days almost made him lose his life, Lei finally made his name in history in 2008.
As an old saying goes, “Read ten thousand books and walk ten thousand miles.” Lei said he didn’t have chances to learn so much when he was young, but he learned a lot from hiking.
“Don’t let difficulties stop you from going for your dreams.” he added.

Passage2
Everyone’s journey of growing up is different, but there are some common things that we all experience. For most of us, growing up means learning to be independent, making our own decisions and taking responsibility for our actions.
My name is Lucy. When I was 10 years old, I used to be afraid of being alone. I always wanted my parents to be with me. But one day, my parents had to go out for a whole day, and I had to stay at home by myself. At first, I was very scared. But I told myself that I had to be brave. I finished my homework, cooked myself a simple meal and cleaned the room. When my parents came back, they were very proud of me. That day, I felt that I had grown up a little.
As I grew older, I faced more challenges. I had to make decisions by myself, such as choosing my own hobbies and making friends. I also learned to take responsibility for my mistakes. Once, I broke my friend’s pencil and I didn’t want to admit it. But my mother told me that being honest is important. I apologized to my friend and bought her a new pencil. That experience taught me to be responsible.
Growing up is not just about getting older. It’s about becoming a better person. It’s about learning from our mistakes, being kind to others and never giving up. I am still growing up, and I look forward to all the new experiences that are waiting for me.
3.原文:For most of us, growing up means learning to be independent, making our own decisions and taking responsibility for our actions.
主语为动名词短语 growing up,谓语为 means;后面是由 and 连接的三个并列动名词短语 learning to be independent, making our own decisions, taking responsibility for our actions 作宾语;句首 For most of us 作状语。
4.原文:When I was 10 years old, I used to be afraid of being alone.
When 引导时间状语从句,从句主语为 I,系动词 was;主句主语为 I,谓语固定结构 used to be(过去常常),表语为 afraid,固定搭配 be afraid of doing sth.

However, people just laughed at him, saying the mountain was difficult to climb because it was too steep (陡峭的) and too dangerous. But Arjun felt sure about himself inside his heart.
One morning, Arjun prepared some food, water, and also a jacket. He took a deep breath and started climbing. The climb was hard at first because the path was rocky (多石头的) and uneven (不平整). Although Arjun fell down many times and hurt his hands and knees on his way, he didn’t stop. On his way, he met some other climbers who gave up. They all advised him to turn back but Arjun shook (摇) his head and said he could do it.
Several days passed. Arjun felt quite tired, and ate all of his food. When he reached a steep, icy wall near the top, he thought about giving up for a moment. But suddenly he remembered his big dream and decided to take more steps forward.
With all his strength (力量), Arjun successfully climbed over the icy wall. Finally, Arjun stood on the mountain’s peak and he felt so proud and happy because he didn’t give up.
When Arjun returned home, the villagers felt surprised. From that day on, Arjun’s experience inspired (激励) everyone. His story taught us that if we keep trying, anything is possible.

2.Why did people think it was difficult to climb the mountain?
3.Was it easy for Arjun to climb at first?

and并且;but但是;so所以;or或者,否则。
take a bus ride是固定搭配,意为“乘坐公交车”,故选A。
first第一;second第二;third第三;last最后。 故选A。
said说;told告诉;spoke讲;talked谈话。根据“one another stories.”
根据“but I was so tired that I went to sleep”可知,因太累故而很早就睡了。故选B。
