Though he was a foot (英尺) or two shorter than many of the players he played against, he won a number of matches. He became well-known enough that he got to 15 Rafael Nadal, his favorite player, at the US Open in 2013. “The most important thing is that he’s 16 ,” Nadal told reporters about Stroud after that 15-minute meeting. “He’s playing tennis… That’s a great example of being happy even if your 17 doesn’t give you everything.” Stroud started playing wheelchair tennis at 13 and now he is No.1 in the US. Earlier this summer, he played for the US in the world’s biggest junior wheelchair team 18 event—the World Team Cup. He played six matches and won five of them as the US won the cup for the first time since 2000. “He is a polite boy, but he will rip (撕扯) your heart out trying to beat you,” Jason Harnett, a United States Tennis Association coach, said of Stroud. “You see that attitude in a lot of the best players, whether they are able-bodied or disabled.” Teenage players can often get disappointed and angry. They may 19 their racquet or shout at themselves after they miss shots. However, Stroud 20 does that. “I just try to stay positive (积极的),” Stroud said. “After every point, I try to say I’m going to win the next point, or the next game, or the next match if I lose the whole match. You just got second place at the school history fair, and Mom and Dad didn’t even help you with your project. I’d say that was doing something right.” “Yeah, second place. That’s me. Second best to Sheri in everything.” Simone crossed her arms. “What happened?” Thomas asked. Simone took a deep breath and said, “I tried out for the school play, and Sheri got the lead.” Thomas nodded, “She has been taking acting lessons for the past two summers.” Simone put her arms down. “I know, and I’m happy for her, but I practiced every night for that part. I wanted it so much.” “What part did you get?” Thomas asked. “The second best part, of course. When is it going to be my turn to be the best at something?” Thomas touched Simone’s hair. “You’re the best little sister I have.” “I’m your only sister,” Simone said. The doorbell rang, and Thomas got up to answer it. “Hi, Sheri. Congratulations on getting the lead in the play.” “Thanks,” Sheri said, but she didn’t look happy. She walked into the living room and sat down next to Simone. “I have to tell you something. I saw your audition. You’re a natural actress, Simone. I was worried you were going to get the lead, and now I feel bad for hoping you wouldn’t get the part. I wish I were as good a friend as you are.” “Looks like you’re the best at something after all,” Thomas said to Simone. Simone smiled, “I’m glad we got the two main parts, Sheri. The inner critic (批评者) is that voice inside your head saying you are not good enough—it constantly judges you. Inner critics develop for various reasons. The most commonly discussed one is that this voice of self-doubt comes from things we heard as kids. If parents often put themselves or their children down, those hurtful words can stick. For example, if a mom talks about her weight a lot, her daughter might start to think the same way about her own body. Similarly, if a parent criticizes the child’s grades, that child might end up giving up on schoolwork. Beneath the inner critic lies vulnerability (脆弱). Deep down, our critics are hurt and afraid, and develop as a maladaptive form of self-protection. Imagine coming home excited about winning a drawing contest, only to be laughed at by your older brother. The next time you achieve something, you might be unwilling to share it—or worse, not even recognize your success. This might seem smart, but it makes things harder for you in the long run. The inner critic makes quite the effort to protect us from painful experiences. It keeps us small, shy, and always on the hunt for ways to prevent shame and failure. As a wounded part in need of care, the inner critic longs to be heard and befriended. To heal (愈合) the wound, it’s important to first identify the inner critic. When you hear a voice in your head suggesting you shouldn’t try because you’ll only fail, recognize it and say: “Oh, my critic is here!” Indeed, it is part of us and isn’t going away, but doing this can create some space between you and the critic. Once you realize its presence, you can meet the inner critic with curiosity and compassion (同情), so you can recover from the hurt behind negative self-talk. Parenting experts suggest getting down on the child’s level when providing support. This works for the inner critic too. Instead of towering over it, try meeting it where it’s at. You might say, “It’s okay to feel scared sometimes. What’s causing this feeling?” or “We all make mistakes. Would you call a friend stupid for doing that?” Only by befriending your inner critic can you start to heal from the pain and fear behind its voice. It takes time and patience, but it’s worth it. Give it a try—for your own well-being. 27.The words “a maladaptive form of self-protection” in Paragraph 3 are closest in meaning to “________”. A.a helpful tool to improve yourself B.an unhealthy way to stay safe C.an ineffective try to keep calm D.a smart method to deal with failure 28.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with? A.The inner critic usually keeps people from feeling scared. B.The inner critic actually looks for understanding and support. C.Negative self-talk helps one create space to avoid mistakes. D.Negative self-talk can successfully push people to work harder. 29.What is the writer‘s main purpose in writing this passage? A.To advise us to silence our inner critics. B.To warn about the negative side of inner critics. C.To show advantages of making peace with inner critics. D.To guide us to treat inner critics like our dear friends. 【答案】27.B 28.B 29.D 【导语】本文介绍了内心批评者的成因与本质危害,告诉我们应识别内心批评声,以共情友善的态度接纳善待它,从而疗愈自我、收获成长。 27.第三段先指出内在批评者源于“vulnerability”,并举例说明因害怕再次被嘲笑而“unwilling to share”或“not even recognize your success”,最后点明这种自我保护“makes things harder for you in the long run”。因此“maladaptive form of self-protection”指的是“不健康的自我保护方式”,与“an unhealthy way to stay safe”含义一致。 28.第四段指出:“As a wounded part in need of care, the inner critic longs to be heard and befriended.” 表明内心批评者渴望被关怀、被倾听理解与善待。 29.文章从介绍内在批评者的形成开始,随后说明其背后是脆弱和自我保护,最后三段重点阐述了如何通过“identify”、“curiosity and compassion”与内在批评者“befriend”并“heal the wound”,结尾鼓励“Give it a try—for your own well-being”。全文旨在引导读者以朋友般的方式对待内在批评者。 D(新考法) As online learning becomes more common and more and more resources are converted to digital form. Some people have suggested that public libraries should be shut down and, in their place, everyone should be given an iPad with an e-reader subscription (订阅). People who support this idea state that it will save local cities and towns money because libraries are expensive to maintain. They also believe it will encourage more people to read because they won’t have to travel to a library to get a book. They can simply click on what they want to read and read it from wherever they are. They could also access more materials because libraries won’t have to buy physical copies of books. They can simply rent out as many digital copies as they need. However, it would be a serious mistake to replace libraries with tablets (平板电脑). First, digital books and resources are associated with less learning and more problems than print resources. A study done on tablet and book reading found that people read 20~30% slower on tablets, retain 20% less information, and understand 10% less of what they read compared to people who read the same information in print. Additionally, staring too long at a screen has been shown to cause numerous physical discomfort, including dizziness, dry eyes, headaches, shoulder and back pain, muscle strain and so on. We should not add to these problems by giving people, especially young people, more reasons to look at screens. Second, it is incredibly narrow-minded to assume that the only service libraries offer is book lending. Libraries have a multitude of benefits, and many are only available if the library has a physical location. Some of these benefits include acting as a quiet study space, holding classes on a variety of topics, providing jobs, and keeping the community connected. One neighbourhood found that, after a local library instituted community events such as play times for kids and parents, job fairs for teenagers, and meeting spaces for senior citizens, over a third of residents reported feeling more connected to their community. Similarly, a survey conducted in 2015 found that nearly two-thirds of American adults feel that closing their local library would have a major impact on their community. People see libraries as a way to connect with others and get their questions answered, benefits tablets can’t offer nearly as well or as easily. While replacing libraries with tablets may seem like a simple solution, it would encourage people to spend even more time looking at digital screens, despite the countless issues surrounding them. It would also end access to many of the benefits of libraries that people have come to rely on. In many areas, libraries are such an important part of the community network that they could never be replaced by simple object. 30.What does the word “access” in Paragraph 2 most probably mean? A.Find. B.Buy. C.Need. D.Offer. 31.What can we learn from Paragraph 3? A.People can read faster on tablets than on real books. B.Reading on tablets can improve people’s memories. C.People may find more reasons to read real books. D.Overusing tablets may lead to health problems. 32.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with? A.Tablets may replace libraries in the future. B.Reading on print books are better for learning. C.Print books can cost people more time to read. D.The main service of the library is lending books. 33.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A.To compare tablets with real books. B.To stress the good points of libraries. C.To encourage people to read more books. D.To advise communities to build more libraries. 【答案】30.A 31.D 32.B 33.B 【导语】本文讨论了是否应该用平板电脑和电子阅读器订阅取代公共图书馆的争议性话题。 30.词句猜测题。根据第二段“They could also access more materials because libraries won’t have to buy physical copies of books.”可知,他们还能获取更多资料,因为图书馆无需再购买纸质版书籍。“access”在此处指“获取/使用(数字资源)”,与选项A(Find)含义最接近。故选A。 31.细节理解题。根据第三段“staring too long at a screen has been shown to cause numerous physical discomfort, including dizziness, dry eyes, headaches…”可知,过度使用平板可能导致健康问题。故选D。 32.推理判断题。根据第三段“people read 20~30% slower on tablets, retain 20% less information…”及全文对纸质书和图书馆的肯定,可推知作者认为纸质书更利于学习。故选B。 33.主旨大意题。全文通过对比平板和图书馆,强调图书馆的多重社会价值(如社区连接、学习空间等),核心目的是突出图书馆的优点。故选B。 第二部分 本部分共5题, 共20分。根据题目要求, 完成相应任务。 四、 阅读表达(共10分, 第1-3题每小题2分, 第4小题4分) School Life Made Easier(社会热点) Making school life simpler and more convenient is becoming a reality with the use of technology, especially in China where many schools are using inventions like AI. One example is a school in Tianjin, which uses a smart campus (校园) system (系统) from a tech company. In classes, students get hands-on experience using simulation (模拟) devices and VR glasses, exploring rocket launches and the structure inside rockets through fun and interactive (互动的) learning. Similarly, in swimming classes, “By wearing smart earphones, they can receive real-time instructions from the coach underwater, making sure it’s safe, ” Li Rui, the school’s vice-principal, told CCTV. At a school in Anhui, technology is improving PE classes. Self-testing tools with AI visual analysis (可视化分析) technology are used for activities like running, jumping, sit-ups, and skipping rope. A facial recognition system records students’ faces, allowing them to receive performance results immediately after each exercise. “Before, when I threw the shot put (铅球), the teacher had to use a ruler to measure the distance. Now, the results are produced automatically (自动地). You can also see which parts of your exercise need improvements, with the teacher then helping to guide you to make those improvements, ” said Wu Shengguo from the school. Besides China, smart campus technologies are getting popularity. A university in Australia uses an app, allowing students to visualize the human heart in 3D.This tool helps students understand the heart’s different parts and blood flow. Universities worldwide are also using AI to create helpful digital assistants (助手). A college in the UK introduced a chat robot. It provides students with information about attendance records, courses, and class timetables, making it easier for students to manage their school lives. Smart campuses are not just about “smart” learning;they are changing how students learn, study, and interact with their schools. These technologies are making education more interesting and convenient for students all over the world. 34.What technology does the school in Tianjin use from the tech company? 35.When can students at the school in Anhui receive performance results in PE classes? 36.How does the chat robot make it easier for students of the college in the UK to manage their school lives? 37.Would you like to study in a smart campus? Why or why not? (Please give two reasons.) 【答案】34.A smart campus system. 35.They can receive performance results immediately after each exercise. 36.By providing students with information about attendance records, courses, and class timetables. 37.Yes, I’d like to. Stroud began playing tennis at age 5 at the small tennis club which his parents owned. For years, he played against able-bodied players by putting rubber (橡胶) on the stumps (残余部分) of his legs. They may 19 their racquet or shout at themselves after they miss shots. However, Stroud 20 does that. “I just try to stay positive (积极的),” Stroud said. “After every point, I try to say I’m going to win the next point, or the next game, or the next match if I lose the whole match. Her backpack came off her shoulders and onto the floor. “What’s wrong, little sister?” Thomas asked. “Everything,” Simone said, “can’t do anything right.” Thomas turned to Simone. “Now I know that’s not true. C “You always mess things up.” “What a stupid thing to do!” Have you ever said these things to yourself? D(新考法) As online learning becomes more common and more and more resources are converted to digital form. 第二部分 本部分共5题, 共20分。根据题目要求, 完成相应任务。 四、 阅读表达(共10分, 第1-3题每小题2分, 第4小题4分) School Life Made Easier(社会热点) Making school life simpler and more convenient is becoming a reality with the use of technology, especially in China where many schools are using inventions like AI. C “You always mess things up.” “What a stupid thing to do!” Have you ever said these things to yourself? D(新考法) As online learning becomes more common and more and more resources are converted to digital form.
