B When he was a little boy, his uncle called him “Sparky” after a comic-strip horse named Spark Plug. School was all but impossible for Sparky. He failed every subject in the eighth grade. He failed physics in high school, getting a grade of zero. He also failed Latin, algebra and English. And his record in sports wasn’t any better. Though he did manage to make the school’s golf team, he quickly lost the only important match of the season. Oh, there was a consolation match (安慰赛); he lost that too. Throughout his youth, Sparky was awkward socially. It wasn’t that the other students disliked him; it’s just that no one really cared all that much. In fact, Sparky was astonished if a classmate ever said hello to him outside of school hours. Sparky was a loser. He, his classmates... everyone knew it. One thing was important to Sparky, however — drawing. He was proud of his artwork. No one else appreciated it. But that didn’t seem to matter to him. In his senior year of high school, he submitted some cartoons to the yearbook. The editors rejected the concept. Despite this brush-off, Sparky was convinced of his ability. He even decided to become an artist. So, after completing high school, Sparky wrote to Walt Disney Studios. They asked for samples of his artwork. Despite careful preparation, it too was rejected. One more confirmation that he was a loser. But Sparky still didn’t give up. Instead, he decided to tell his own life’s story in cartoons. Sparky’s cartoon character went on to become a cultural phenomenon of sorts. People readily identified with this “lovable loser”. He reminded people of the painful and embarrassing moments from their own past, of their pain and their shared humanity. The character soon became famous worldwide: “Charlie Brown”. And Sparky, the boy whose many failures never kept him from trying, whose work was rejected again and again... is the highly successful cartoonist Charles Schultz. His cartoon strip, Peanuts, continues to inspire books, T-shirts and Christmas specials, reminding us, as someone once commented, that life somehow finds a way for all of us, even the losers. 24. What can be inferred about Sparky’s classmates? A. They were not fond of him. B. They only said hello to him. C. They laughed at him for his failures. D. They considered him socially invisible. 25. Which words best describe Sparky according to the passage? A. Talented and promising. B. Optimistic and sociable. C. Ambitious and persistent. D. Passionate and knowledgeable. 26. What does the author focus on in the last paragraph? A. The inspiration of Sparky’s successful story. B. The cultural impacts growing out of failures. C. The story behind a famous cartoon character. D. The process of creating the cartoon strip of Peanuts. 27. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A. The Life of Charles Schultz B. The Loser Who Never Gave up C. The Creation of Charlie Brown D. The Optimist Who Never Complained C The first time my improv (即兴表演) teacher called me to act out a scene, my throat tightened and my vision blurred (模糊). Performing silly scenes in front of others made my anxiety shoot through the roof. Every time I tried to improvise, I froze. I swore everyone could hear my racing heartbeat, and I kept trying to force myself to relax instead of focusing on the scene. For weeks, I fought against my anxiety. I’d get angry at myself for feeling nervous during something “fun”, trying to ignore the butterflies in my stomach. But psychologists now say that approach was wrong — some anxiety can actually be helpful. The Yerkes-Dodson Curve, a well-known psychology concept, explains this. When anxiety is too high, people underperform, because they might be so worried. When it’s too low, they also suffer, because they might be so relaxed. “There’s a middle zone where anxiety becomes useful,” says Dr. Shannon Sauer-Zavala from the University of Kentucky. “It signals, ‘This matters — pay attention and prepare.’” Psychologist Dennis-Tiwary writes in her book Future Tense that when her son was diagnosed with a heart condition as a baby, anxiety and worry intensified her efforts to get him help. “Worry pushed me to figure out how to maximize the chances of a successful surgery,” she writes. Her mind racing, she read academic articles about her son’s condition, made lists of questions for his doctors and searched community forums for information. “In the end,” she writes, “it was the worry that helped us get through.” Anxiety can be a form of caring, of our minds highlighting what matters. It tells us that accomplishing our goals will require efforts, and it pushes us to think about what efforts, exactly, we should take. It motivates us to take action. In some studies, people who felt anxious came up with more and better solutions to problems than those who felt calm. In other words, you shouldn’t want to live completely free of anxiety, because you need some anxiety to get things done. 28. How did the author feel when improvising? A. He felt relaxed by focusing on the scene. B. Nervous, he forgot his improv completely. C. With his heart racing, he tried to calm down. D. He felt annoyed at being called to improvise. 29. According to the Yerkes-Dodson Curve, how does anxiety affect one’s performance? A. The higher anxiety is, the better one’s performance is. B. Too low anxiety leads to one’s suffering mental health. C. Balanced anxiety betters one’s attention and preparations. D. A middle zone makes anxiety useful to one’s performance. 30. What does the underlined word “intensified” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Pursued. B. Fueled. C. Concentrated. D. Combined. 31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. It requires efforts to accomplish our goals. B. Life with anxiety is completely unavoidable. C. Anxiety is always there to help you get projects done. D. Feeling calm can not be an advantage in completing a task. D Nowadays, hunger and malnutrition remain major global problems and the lack of decisive action could worsen the situation. With the world population continuing to increase, mostly in Africa and Asia — it is expected to reach almost 10 billion by 2050 — a considerable increase in food production is required to feed the additional people. But this is difficult to achieve because of land and water scarcity and other environmental issues. What complicates the matter further is the climate-change-induced decline in food production growth in many parts of the world. In January 2025, more than 150 Nobel Prize and World Food Prize winners, mostly scientists, urged global leaders to prioritize research and development in agriculture, and develop “moonshot” technologies to address the tragic mismatch between global food supply and demand. To solve the problem, especially to boost food production and strengthen global food security, the world needs to promote smart innovation in agriculture and food systems. An important part of the solution is harnessing new technologies, such as digital innovation and genomics-assisted breeding. These technologies can help increase crop yield while reducing fluctuations in production due to climate shocks. New technologies can also help reduce the negative environmental effects of intensive farming. For instance, digital sensors scan plants and the soil to detect diseases and nutrient deficiency, which can then be treated through precise applications. Such systems can significantly reduce the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Apart from increasing crop yield and reducing inputs, new technologies can also help preserve, if not restore, diversity in farmlands, food markets and people’s diets. For the last 70 years, most farmers across the world have been growing a few staple crops, such as rice, wheat, maize and soybean, neglecting other crops. This means competitive seed varieties and technologies are often not available to farmers. In many middle- and high-income countries, farmlands are large and homogeneous, mainly because it is easier to operate big machines on them. And the use of machines in places where labor is costly and scarce can help farmers to remain competitive. Yet to preserve biodiversity, we need smaller fields and more diverse farms. Such diverse farms cannot easily be operated by large machines, but by smaller robots. Obviously, the use of robots is unnecessary where human labor is cheap and abundant. 32. Why did over 150 prize winners urge global leaders to prioritize agricultural research? A. To resolve the imbalance between global food supply and demand. B. To replace traditional crops with genetically modified ones. C. To reduce the cost of labor in farming. D. To promote the use of large machines in agriculture. 33. How might digital sensors help reduce environmental harm from farming? A. By increasing the use of chemical fertilizers. B. By replacing human labor with robots in all regions. C. By encouraging farmers to grow only staple crops. D. By identifying plant diseases and nutrient shortages for targeted treatment. 34. The bold word “homogeneous” in the paragraph 5 most likely means ________. A. diverse in crop types B. difficult to operate C. similar or uniform in structure D. environmentally friendly 35. What is the primary focus of the passage? A. The environmental challenges caused by climate change. B. The role of new technologies in addressing global food shortages. C. The importance of biodiversity in farmlands and diets. D. The economic impact of labor scarcity in agriculture. Jessica Nabongo longs to set foot in every nation. He had just transferred to this school and knew almost no one. He was a boy of few words, preferring to stay alone during breaks rather than join the noisy groups of students. Deep down, he longed to make new friends, but his shyness always held him back. One afternoon, the head teacher announced that the whole class would hold a charity sale to raise money for left-behind children in mountainous areas. Everyone needed to work in small groups and work out a detailed plan. Tom’s heart skipped a beat. He was afraid of communicating with strangers and had no idea how to cooperate with others. Just as he lowered his head in anxiety, Ben, a warm and outgoing boy in the class, came over and patted him on the shoulder. “Wanna join our group? We need a careful person like you to sort out the goods and record the income,” Ben said with a bright smile. Tom was surprised but nodded nervously. He began to worry about whether he could fit in and perform well in the team. The first group discussion made Tom extremely nervous. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The day of the charity sale finally arrived. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $第一节听下面五段录音。 Everyone, sleeping Francis, please keep your voice down. The Optimist Who Never Complained 【答案】24. D 25. C 26. B 27. 根据第三段“It wasn’t that the other students disliked him; it’s just that no one really cared all that much.(这并不是说其他学生不喜欢他;只是没人真的那么在乎)”可知,Sparky的同学认为他在社交上无足轻重。 根据第四段“One thing was important to Sparky, however — drawing. He was proud of his artwork. No one else appreciated it. But that didn’t seem to matter to him. In his senior year of high school, he submitted some cartoons to the yearbook. The editors rejected the concept. Despite this brush-off, Sparky was convinced of his ability. He even decided to become an artist.(然而,有一件事对Sparky很重要——画画。 根据最后一段“But Sparky still didn’t give up. 【答案】28. C 29. C 30. B 31. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了适度焦虑具有积极作用,它能提升专注力,也能转化为解决问题的行动力。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“Every time I tried to improvise, I froze. I swore everyone could hear my racing heartbeat, and I kept trying to force myself to relax instead of focusing on the scene. (每次我尝试即兴表演时,都会僵住。我发誓所有人都能听到我狂跳的心跳声,而我只是一味强迫自己放松,却没能专注于表演场景)”可知,在即兴表演时,作者的心跳加速,试图让自己冷静下来。故选C项。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“When anxiety is too high, people underperform, because they might be so worried. When it’s too low, they also suffer, because they might be so relaxed.(当焦虑过高时,人们表现不佳,因为他们可能太担心了。当它太低时,他们也会受到影响,因为他们可能太放松了。)”、Shannon Sauer-Zavala博士所说的话“There’s a middle zone where anxiety becomes useful (在焦虑情绪中,存在一个‘中间地带’——此时焦虑反而能发挥积极作用)”和“It signals, ‘This matters — pay attention and prepare.’ (它传递着一个信号:‘这件事很重要——要集中注意力,做好准备。’)”可知,耶克斯-多德森压力曲线表明,适度焦虑能提升专注力,让人做好准备,从而优化表现。故选C项。 【30题详解】 词句猜测题。根据画线词的下文““Worry pushed me to figure out how to maximize the chances of a successful surgery,” she writes. Her mind racing, she read academic articles about her son’s condition, made lists of questions for his doctors and searched community forums for information. “In the end,” she writes, “it was the worry that helped us get through.” 根据最后一段中“In some studies, people who felt anxious came up with more and better solutions to problems than those who felt calm. In other words, you shouldn’t want to live completely free of anxiety, because you need some anxiety to get things done. (一些研究表明,相比情绪平静者,感到焦虑的人往往能提出更多、更优的解决方案。换言之,我们不应追求完全摆脱焦虑的状态,因为适度的焦虑恰恰是推动事情取得进展的动力)”可知,适度的焦虑可以推动事情发展,其承受者比情绪平静者更能很好地完成任务。由此可知,平静状态在解决问题时可能不具备优势。故选D项。 D Nowadays, hunger and malnutrition remain major global problems and the lack of decisive action could worsen the situation. 【答案】32. A 33. D 34. C 35. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章指出全球粮食供需失衡问题严峻,科学家呼吁加强农业科技创新,如数字传感器、精准农业和机器人技术,以提高产量、减少环境破坏并促进农田生物多样性。 【32题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“In January 2025, more than 150 Nobel Prize and World Food Prize winners, mostly scientists, urged global leaders to prioritize research and development in agriculture, and develop “moonshot” technologies to address the tragic mismatch between global food supply and demand. (2025年1月,超过150位诺贝尔奖和世界粮食奖得主,其中大部分是科学家,敦促全球领导人优先发展农业研发,并开发“登月计划”级别的技术,以解决全球粮食供需之间的严重失衡问题)”可知,这些获奖者呼吁加强农业研究,以解决全球粮食供需失衡问题。故选A项。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“For instance, digital sensors scan plants and the soil to detect diseases and nutrient deficiency, which can then be treated through precise applications. Such systems can significantly reduce the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. (例如,数字传感器通过扫描作物和土壤来检测病虫害和营养缺失情况,随后可进行精准施治。这类系统能大幅减少化学农药和化肥的使用量)”可知,数字传感器通过识别植物病害和营养缺失情况,实现精准施治,从而降低农业对环境的影响。故选D项。 【34题详解】 词句猜测题。根据黑体词的下文“mainly because it is easier to operate big machines on them (主要是因为在这种农田上更容易操作大型机械)”和下一段开头的“Yet to preserve biodiversity, we need smaller fields and more diverse farms. (然而,为了保持生物多样性,我们需要更小的田地和更多样化的农场)”可知,中高收入国家的农田的这一特征是为了便于大型机械操作,且这种特征与“更多样化”相反。由此可知,这些农田“结构单一”,这样才能便于机械化耕作。故选C项。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第三段中“An important part of the solution is harnessing new technologies, such as digital innovation and genomics-assisted breeding. (解决方案的一个重要组成部分是利用新技术,例如数字创新和基因组辅助育种)”可知,全文的重点是全球粮食供需失衡问题严峻背景下,如何利用新技术帮助解决全球粮食短缺问题。故选B项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Jessica Nabongo longs to set foot in every nation. I appreciate it because when you travel, depending on your passport, depending on your social class, depending on so many different things, you can go to places with a lot of ego (自我), or you can humble yourself and know that everyone is equal. What are some things people can do to travel more sustainably (可持续地)? Single-use plastic is one of the biggest things harming Earth right now, so a lot of my focus is on that. ____40____ If you’re in a restaurant and you don’t have a big appetite, ask for a half portion. It’s about being a deliberate (慎重的) traveler, just taking that extra minute to think how I can have a lower impact on this place that I’m in and on the planet in general. A. But it’s not just about the country count. B. I believe failure is the mother of success. C. Curiosity — that’s what’s always inspired me. D. What did you depend on during your travel? E. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 The first group discussion made Tom extremely nervous. He sat silently in the corner, his heart beating fast, too shy to put forward his ideas. Ben and other group members smiled at him and encouraged him to speak up. Tom spoke in a low voice, but his careful suggestions on sorting goods and recording income were highly praised. With their kindness and patience, Tom gradually relaxed and began to share more thoughts actively. He finally felt a sense of belonging in the team. The day of the charity sale finally arrived. Tom took his responsibility seriously, arranging everything in order and keeping detailed accounts accurately. Encouraged by his teammates, he even plucked up courage to introduce goods to customers. Their team worked perfectly together and raised a lot of money for the children. Tom laughed and talked happily with his new friends. He not only completed the task well but also overcame his shyness, becoming more confident and fitting into the class smoothly. 词汇激活 行为类 ①鼓舞:encourage/inspire ②赞美:praise/compliment ③安排:arrange/schedule 情绪类 ①快乐地:happily/merrily ②沉默地:silently/speechlessly 【点睛】[高分句型1] Encouraged by his teammates, he even plucked up courage to introduce goods to customers.(运用了过去分词作状语) [高分句型2] Tom took his responsibility seriously, arranging everything in order and keeping detailed accounts accurately.(运用了现在分词作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
