Born in a tiny rural town, South Africa, she had a traditional upbringing. Her most direct link to music was church hymns (圣歌). Yende says that as a shy child, she never considered a career in music. When her grandmother first invited her to sing in church, she knew how uncomfortable it would be to stand in front of people, but she didn’t want to disappoint her. She overcame her shyness, and it became her first experience of performing in front of massive audiences. Then one day she saw opera for the first time on TV at the age of 16. “Hearing this music and the power of it sounded like something supernatural.” she recalled. “I remember recording it and imitating it,” she said. “I would play the recording the whole day. My gosh, my family were in trouble, because I wouldn’t stop practicing and shouting. ” She started to gain popularity in South Africa while still a student at the University of Cape Town, and in 2011, Yende began entering opera competitions. “The very first opera competition that I did was in Vienna, Austria, where I won everything possible,” she remembered. Her career took off internationally in 2013 with public performances across the world. It has not been all without trouble. She continues to address the question of opera’s white domination, and believes that she can use her fame and talent as an opportunity to break prejudice. “The biggest challenge has always been being the different one in the room,” She remembered. “Sometimes I would enter the rehearsal (排练) room, and what I could see in the room looks like, ‘Why are you here?’ And I would just smile. But once I start making music, all of us in that room agreed that I’m not there by mistake.” 4. What can be learnt from Yende’s church performing experience? A. She loved performing on her first try. B. She always wanted to please her family. C. It was her dream to pursue a singing career. D. She was initially not keen on public singing. 5. What inspired Yende’s passion for singing? A. Her grandma’s encouragement. B. An exposure to opera on TV. C. Her success in opera competitions. D. An experience of singing hymns. 6. How did Yende respond to others’ prejudice in her career? A. She felt helpless. B. She behaved confidently. C. She laughed about it. D. She demanded a thorough change. 7. Which of the following best describes Yende according to the text? A. Capable and cooperative. B. Humble and sensitive. C. Talented and devoted. D. Knowledgeable and ambitious. D 5. B 6. B 7. 根据第二段中“When her grandmother first invited her to sing in church, she knew how uncomfortable it would be to stand in front of people, but she didn’t want to disappoint her. She overcame her shyness, and it became her first experience of performing in front of massive audiences.(当她的祖母第一次邀请她在教堂唱歌时,她知道站在众人面前会有多不舒服,但她不想让祖母失望。她克服了羞怯,这成为她第一次在众多观众面前表演的经历)”可知,从Yende在教堂表演的经历可以得知,她最初并不热衷于公开演唱。故选D。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Then one day she saw opera for the first time on TV at the age of 16. ‘Hearing this music and the power of it sounded like something supernatural.’ she recalled. ‘I remember recording it and imitating it,’ she said. ‘I would play the recording the whole day. My gosh, my family were in trouble, because I wouldn’t stop practicing and shouting.’(后来有一天,16岁的她第一次在电视上看到了歌剧。‘听到这种音乐和它的力量听起来像超自然的东西。’她回忆道。‘我记得我把它录下来,然后模仿它,’她说。‘我会放一整天的录音。我的天哪,我的家人有麻烦了,因为我不停地练习和大喊大叫。’)”可知,一次在电视上看到歌剧激发了Yende对唱歌的热情。故选B。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“She continues to address the question of opera’s white domination, and believes that she can use her fame and talent as an opportunity to break prejudice.(她继续解决歌剧白人统治的问题,并相信她可以利用她的名声和才华作为打破偏见的机会)”以及“And I would just smile. But once I start making music, all of us in that room agreed that I’m not there by mistake.(我只会微笑。但一旦我开始做音乐,房间里的所有人都同意我在那里不是错误的)”可知,面对别人对她事业的偏见,Yende表现得很自信。故选B。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“‘The very first opera competition that I did was in Vienna, Austria, where I won everything possible,’ she remembered. Her career took off internationally in 2013 with public performances across the world.(她回忆说:‘我参加的第一次歌剧比赛是在奥地利维也纳,在那里我赢得了所有可能的冠军。’2013年,她的事业在全球范围内开始了公开演出)”以及最后一段中“She continues to address the question of opera’s white domination, and believes that she can use her fame and talent as an opportunity to break prejudice.(她继续解决歌剧白人统治的问题,并相信她可以利用她的名声和才华作为打破偏见的机会)”可知,Yende很有天赋且全身心投入歌剧事业。故选C。 C Whether humanity expresses itself in paintings, books, movies, songs or any other creative media, art always finds its way back to the person who made it and their life stories. It is hard to define what “good” art is, but to me, it means anything that somebody created with the intention of representing something that matters to them. The one thing that I will never call “art”, however, is anything that was made with artificial intelligence. Take painting for example. Most of the well-known painters of the past 200 years drew on the lives they lived to make their art. Claude Monet, for example, was inspired by the water garden that he would see daily at his estate (房产) in Normandy, France. This series included some of his most famous works made in the impressionism style, which focuses on creating the illusion (幻觉) of movement to represent humanity. The point is that painters drew on the places they lived in and their views of life to create art. They used their understanding of style, color and movement to create lovely images and represent what mattered to them. That is something that AI is unable to do. The AI program can only generate an image based on a collection of images from the websites. It cannot draw on its own experience at all. Another common use of AI programs is to have them generate the written word. For me, there is no heart or soul in what the AI produces. The product requires no thought or effort, both of which are key parts of meaningful written work. Author Nora Roberts, who has had 68 of her romance novels appear on The New York Times bestseller list, once said that you have to love the written word to be capable of good writing. AI cannot feel emotions and love what it writes. Therefore, how could it ever create good writing? The beautiful thing about life is that we all go through it differently, and art has the ability to bring us together with our unique experiences. Neither can AI replicate (复制) that, nor should we make it try. 8. What is considered essential for creating meaningful art? A. Artistic skills. B. Unique styles of art. C. Personal experiences. D. Advanced technologies. 9. Why does the author mention Monet’s artworks? A. To highlight Monet’s talent for art. B. To give an example of genuine art. C. To trace the beginnings of impressionism. D. To describe famous painting techniques. 10. What is lacking in AI-produced writing? A. Accuracy and detail. B. Depth and persuasion. C. Structure and balance. D. Emotion and passion. 11. What does the author wish to achieve in the text? A. To criticize writers’ dependence on AI. B. To show AI’s value in creative work. C. To discourage the use of AI in art. D. To reveal AI’s importance to artists. C 9. B 10. D 11. 根据第一段中的“but to me, it means anything that somebody created with the intention of representing something that matters to them (但对我来说,好的艺术是创作者为了表达对自己重要的事物而创作的作品)”以及第三段中的“Most of the well-known painters of the past 200 years drew on the lives they lived to make their art (过去200年里,大多数著名画家都是从自己的生活中汲取灵感进行创作)”可知,创作有意义的艺术的关键要素是个人经历。 结合第四段首句“The point is that painters drew on the places they lived in and their views of life to create art (关键在于,画家们从自己生活的环境和对生活的见解中汲取灵感进行创作)”可知,作者提及莫奈的作品是为了举例说明什么是真正的艺术。 根据第五段中的“For me, there is no heart or soul in what the AI produces (在我看来,人工智能生成的文字缺乏灵魂与内核)”以及“AI cannot feel emotions and love what it writes (人工智能无法感受情感,也不会热爱自己写下的内容)”可知,人工智能生成的文字缺少的是情感与热忱。 D It is generally believed that coffee relates to increased watchfulness and faster heart rates, so people with atrial fibrillation (AF) — the most common irregular (不规则的) heartbeat condition — are often told to avoid it. However, a new study suggests that advice may need a rethink. Researchers followed 200 people in the US, Canada, and Australia who were about to go through an operation for AF. All were present or former coffee drinkers. Half agreed to avoid coffee for six months; the other half agreed to drink at least one cup per day. Across the six months, the researchers tracked AF recurrences (复发) lasting over 30 seconds. In the coffee-drinker group, 47 percent had suffered from AF, compared with 64 percent of those who didn’t. “The results astounded us,” says Christopher Wong, a professor from the University of Adelaide in Australia. “Unlike traditional wisdom, we found the coffee drinkers experienced an obvious reduction in AF compared to those who avoided coffee and caffeine (咖啡因).” Lots of explanations for the finding are possible. We know coffee can improve exercise performance, which could protect against AF. It also contains something acting to help reduce high blood pressure, a risk factor for AF. While it doesn’t show the direct cause and effect, the study adds some valuable evidence to the connection between coffee and heart conditions. “It makes sense for health care professionals to let their AF patients consider experimenting with caffeinated drinks that they may enjoy, such as caffeinated tea and coffee,” says Marcus, a medical researcher from the University of California, San Francisco. This is the first attempt to look at the connection between caffeinated drinks and the happening of AF. The researchers now want to look at the effects on those who weren’t coffee drinkers to begin with, and how other caffeine drinks might have an influence. 12. How did the researchers make the finding? A. By explaining reasons. B. By undertaking comparisons. C. By making interviews. D. By reviewing former studies. 13. What does the underlined word “astounded” probably mean in Paragraph 3? A. Shocked. B. Troubled. C. Discouraged. D. Uplifted. 14. What does Marcus think of recommending caffeinated drinks to AF patients? A. Impractical. B. Uncertain. C. Influential. D. Reasonable. 15. What may the researchers do in the future? A. Change measuring tools. B. Apply the latest findings. C. Broaden research subjects. D. Collect indirect evidences. B 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第二段中的“Half agreed to avoid coffee for six months; the other half agreed to drink at least one cup per day. Across the six months, the researchers tracked AF recurrences (复发) lasting over 30 seconds. In the coffee-drinker group, 47 percent had suffered from AF, compared with 64 percent of those who didn’t. (一半人同意六个月内不喝咖啡;另一半人同意每天至少喝一杯。在这六个月里,研究人员追踪了持续30秒以上的房颤复发情况。喝咖啡的组别中,47%的人出现了房颤,而不喝咖啡的组别这一比例为64%)”可知,研究人员将研究对象分为两组做对比实验,通过对比两组的房颤复发数据得出研究发现。故选B项。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第一段中的“It is generally believed that coffee relates to increased watchfulness and faster heart rates, so people with atrial fibrillation (AF) — the most common irregular (不规则的) heartbeat condition — are often told to avoid it. 故选A项。 根据第四段中的““It makes sense for health care professionals to let their AF patients consider experimenting with caffeinated drinks that they may enjoy, such as caffeinated tea and coffee,” says Marcus, a medical researcher from the University of California, San Francisco. (医疗从业者让他们的房颤患者考虑尝试自己喜欢的含咖啡因饮品,比如含咖啡因的茶和咖啡,这是合理的)”可推知,Marcus认为向房颤患者推荐含咖啡因饮品是合理的。故选D项。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中的“The researchers now want to look at the effects on those who weren’t coffee drinkers to begin with, and how other caffeine drinks might have an influence.(研究人员现在想要研究该饮品对原本就不喝咖啡的人的影响,以及其他含咖啡因饮品可能产生的作用)”可知,研究人员未来会拓宽研究对象,将原本不喝咖啡的人纳入研究,同时研究其他含咖啡因饮品的影响。 Indoor plants might look as if they just sit around not doing much, but in many ways they are the unsung heroes of the home. ____16____, but studies have shown that they can promote people’s wellbeing by improving their mood (心情), reducing stress and helping their memory. I would recommend the English Song Competition for the following reasons. First, singing English songs is a fun way to improve pronunciation and vocabulary naturally. Many students enjoy music, so participation would be high. Second, this activity allows creative performances solo, duets, or even group acts, making it more engaging than a traditional contest. Lastly, we can invite judges to give feedback on both language skills and stage presence, adding educational value. I’m sure this event will be both fun and educational for everyone. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Yours, Li Hua Possible version 2: Dear Mr. Smith, Thank you for your thoughtful proposals for the English Week. I would like to express my preference for the English Word Spelling Contest. I believe this contest would be highly beneficial. It would strongly motivate students to expand their vocabulary and pay closer attention to spelling accuracy, which is a fundamental skill for English learning. Unlike a song competition, a spelling contest is more inclusive and accessible to a wider range of students, including those who might be shy about performing. It would create an atmosphere of focused and academic engagement. We would greatly appreciate your guidance in organizing it. She lived in a small and comfort town where everyone knew each other. One sunny morning, Lily’s teacher announced a school talent show. The news excited Lily immediately, as she had always loved singing and dreamed of performing on stage. Without hesitation, Lily signed up for the show. She chose her favourite song and started practising right away. Every day after school, she would go to the park and sing her heart out, imagining the big stage and the cheering audience. However, as the days passed, Lily faced a big problem. She found it difficult to reach some of the high notes in the song. No matter how hard she tried, her voice just wouldn’t cooperate. Lily started to feel discouraged. She thought about giving up and withdrawing from the talent show. But deep inside, she knew that giving up was not an option. She remembered the words her father always told her, “When life gives you challenges, face them with courage and never give up.” Determined to overcome the obstacle, Lily decided to ask for help. She went to her music teacher, Mrs. Brown, and explained her problem. Mrs. Brown was very kind and patient. She listened to Lily sing and then gave her some useful tips on how to control her voice and reach the high notes. She also encouraged Lily to practise regularly and believe in herself. With Mrs. Brown’s guidance, Lily practised even harder. She spent hours every day working on those difficult notes. Sometimes she felt tired and depressed, but she always reminded herself of her dream. Finally, the day of the talent show arrived. Lily was nervous but excited. As she stepped onto the stage and saw the audience looking at her expectantly, her heart raced. But as soon as the music started, she took a deep breath and began to sing. Lily poured her heart and soul into the song. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the show, Lily’s friends and teachers crowded around her. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Lily poured her heart and soul into the song. Standing on the stage, her eyes closed, she swung gently with the music. Her voice resounded powerfully and obviously, hitting every note perfectly, especially those high notes that once troubled her. Veins slightly bulged on her neck as she reached for the climax part, and her hands took fast hold on the microphone. The audience sat out of their mind, their eyes fixed on her. When she finished, the whole auditorium erupted into thunderous applause. Lily’s face lit up, and she felt a sense of pride and achievement wash over her, a huge smile spreading across her cheeks. After the show, Lily’s friends and teachers crowded around her. Her friends, eyes wide with admiration, said, “Lily, that was incredible! Every move was so accurate and full of emotion.” Teachers nodded in agreement, adding, “Your devotion really shone through. The countless hours of practice were evident.” Lily stood there, a shy smile on her face. Glancing around at their supportive faces, she truly understood that through her own hard work, never-giving-up spirit and the encouragement she’d received, she was capable of reaching any goal. This performance wasn’t just an event; it was a life-changing lesson she’d treasure forever. 词汇激活 行为类 ①结束:finish/end ②收到:receive/get/obtain ③珍视:treasure/cherish 情绪类 ①钦佩:admiration/esteem ②害羞的:shy/bashful 【点睛】[高分句型1] Her voice resounded powerfully and obviously, hitting every note perfectly, especially those high notes that once troubled her. B The story of how Pretty Yende, a black opera singer, reached the peak of her career is an inspirational one. C Whether humanity expresses itself in paintings, books, movies, songs or any other creative media, art always finds its way back to the person who made it and their life stories. D It is generally believed that coffee relates to increased watchfulness and faster heart rates, so people with atrial fibrillation (AF) — the most common irregular (不规则的) heartbeat condition — are often told to avoid it. D. Uplifted. 14. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
